This was a terrible experience. First the car was very dirty on both the out side and inside. I told the lady at the desk that the car had damages all around the car and both inside and outside was filthy. I also told her that there was a half of tank of gas in the car. She noted everything except the gas. So I thought that was very weird. I immediately called to see if she noted it on my profile. She did not. The gentleman told me that he would note it. I returned it the same day. I only drove the car for 84 miles. I put $10 of gas in. That took it over the half way mark for gas. I wait and wait for attendees. No one was able to check me out. I asked the shuttle guy if they email the receipts. He told me yes. After flying to my next destination I still did not receive an email receipt. I then called again that evening. They told me that it hasn’t been closed yet?! And I have to call at 8 am. I asked why haven’t they closed the ticket yet? The guy told me it would take till morning. I then called at 11. Natalie was on the customer care line. Natalie has a very heavy accent and got so frustrated with me not being able to understand her and asking if she can repeat what she said again goes on to yell at me and say “ I am only going to say this one time!” I said oh we are going to stop right here. In no way are you going to treat a customer like that. Put a manager on the phone now. I told Natalie we were through. She then tells me there is no manager only a supervisor. I told Natalie to put someone that is over her on the phone. After being on hold a supervisor came on. All I wanted at this point was a corporate number. I was told there is not one and I have to wait 4 hours for a receipt to be emailed to me. I will be continuously calling till I get one and I will he reporting them to the bbb if I was charged for things that I wasn’t reliable for or agreed to.

How to beat Payless at their own scam using their own language and terms and conditions. They will tell you that sli aka supplemental liability insurance is mandatory. They will then tell you your new total rental cost. But this total not only includes supplemental liability insurance. LDW @ $16.95 per day loss damage waiver aka SLI or supplemental liability insurance. After they tell you your new total rental cost they will have you sign on a electric pin pad and sneak the following optional addons abbreviated like so. These addons will be listed on your personal rental agreement. PAC @ $4.00 per day personal accident insurance TGPP @ $4.40 per day Glass protection plan ERA @ $3.95 per day extended roadside assistance Auto expreso @ $5.95 per day (you probably want this it’s tolls) Per their own legal language which is available on their website or… Ask for a copy of their rental policies which they have because they staple and give to every renter. Right on their own rental is the following language under section H “Where available and for an additional charge, if you have initialed that You accept the optional SLI at the beginning of the rental you will be provided with protection against third-party auto liability claims. A. If you have valid and collectible liability coverage, your coverage may be primary as to any coverage provided under SLI. If you purchase this option. “ Every addon here is optional, and the language indicates so in their own paperwork. Finally if you don’t want to deal with these guys, go on Expedia and make a booking live with another rental company and take the shuttle back.

Several weeks before I needed the car, I checked online and chose Payless because they were the lowest price. I committed for the car and received a confirmation number. When I got to the Hobby airport with my wife, we waited for the van to take us to the rental counter. After about a half hour of waiting, and watching about 30 other rental car vans pass by, we tried calling Payless to find out what happened to their van. We each tried calling twice, letting the phone ring about a minute! But no response. So, after about 45 minutes, we gave up and managed to rent a car with a competitor. Since it was a last minute rental, it ended up costing us twice as much - but we were treated well by the competitor. When I returned home, I tried calling again to complain, but after several calls I got no response, again. I tried calling a different Payless Auto and was finally successful in reaching a person. They gave me an email address to which I could complain. When I emailed, I sent in all the facts and mentioned how much extra I had to pay, hoping Payless would, at a minimum, make up the difference for their mistake. But no, the responding person simply gave me the time stamps when customers arrived at their desk, implying that the van was operating correctly - with no apology or any real explanation. So, they left us high and dry, completely disregarding the commitment they made. And then they blew off the chance to try to make amends. Don't expect any effort from them to be treated like a valued customer. They have earned the miserable rating that they have!

I would strongly discourage anybody from renting a car from the business. When I arrived, the woman handling the counter was extremely rude. She had me fill out paperwork indicating that I had inspected the car when I in fact had not. She didn't separated the duplicate copy of the paperwork and told me to mark any noticeable damage on my copy only and that she would "initial" on my copy acknowledgment of any damage. When I saw the car I was going to be given and how many scratches and dings were on it, I went back inside and asked for the duplicate copy back because I felt that, if questioned later on, the fact that my copy did not match theirs may be a problem. The clerk at the counter refused. When I declined the rental and asked to be taken back to the airport shuttle in order to rent from a different company because I was not comfortable with the situation, the clerk said to, "get this crazy white b**** out of here!". Never in my life have I witnessed such unprofessional behavior. I know for a fact that she was not following policy and I am certain that I would have been found responsible for the damage to the vehicle I was renting because my form and their form would not have matched. That is the entire point of a duplicate form. Upon filing my complaint with corporate, they logged an electronic complaint about what happened, but refused to let me speak to any sort of management about the situation. Rent at your own risk. This is very sketchy rental agency.

I had a way worse experience here in Houston at Hobby Airport. When I got to the curb, the bus was almost full and I had a few calls to make, so I figured I would get the next bus to come around. I finished up on my phone and waited, and waited, and waited. I called the local number listed for the rental car office after 30 minutes of waiting. I was told that they were on the way. 15 minutes later I called back, no answer, tried 3 times, no answer. Called southwest and asked them to intervene. Was told I could get another company for about double the price of what I was paying. Hung up and called the local office again, no answer. Called the Payless customer service number and asked them to intervene. I was told by the CSR that bus was 5 minutes away. Asked him to stay on the line for 5 minutes until it arrived. He would not. Eventually, after I tried to keep him on the line until the bus arrived, he hung up. About 5 minutes after this, the bus came. Upon arrival to the office, it was a S@#T Hole gravel parking lot, cars all over in no order, employees flipping through piles of keys looking for a car for the customers at the counter. I was here for an additional 40 minutes to get my car. All total, 2 hours to rent a car. Today I returned the car $6 more than the Southwest quote. The guy at the counter had no idea why and said that this is the total with no explanation when I showed him the quote.

Amateur hour. Website says go outside of airport and wait for the shuttle. After 20 mins, I called and was told I’ll tell the driver. I guess one is supposed to call to get picked up. Once at the office, the only employee working the counter was in a crisis because she could not find the keys to a rental car she had given to someone. The driver of the van finally found the keys. Another group of three were also waiting for a car when I arrived. After 15 mins of me being there, they were helped, no telling how long they had been waiting. I’m still waiting and it’s been 25 mins now. Go somewhere else for a rental car. Edit: Car they gave me had an interesting smell. I’m not sure exactly what it was, but my 6 year old even commented on it. I waited about 40 mins before getting the car, so I wasn’t about to wait to get another one because I had a two hour drive ahead of me. The car itself was fine and did the job. The office hours aren’t the best, but when dropping off outside of their hours just take your car to the budget across the street. They’ll look over the car, check the fuel level, and take your contact info so Payless can email you the final bill. Make sure you get something from the budget representative that shows the car had no issues and had the right amount of fuel in it just in case any issues pop-up when you receive your final bill.

WORST EXPERIENCE in my 35 years of renting cars. Wife had reservation & came in 10pm to pickup. Useless, unfriendly employee said the credit card she presented didn't match one used on reservation (said it was in my name, not true) and couldn't give car. Call to reservations affirmed the names on ccard & driver had to match. She was stuck in terrible area w/ no car. Reservations said no other rental available, but I got online & proved the incompetent wrong (for over $100 more) Argued by email w/ customer service next day about it & they gave me the same diatribe about my name (same last name) on ccard, not hers. Just got bill for the original reservation with charge on HER ccard. Names originally matched but they screwed up Looked closer at rental agreement & it says LAST names need to match. Screwed up two ways & cost us extra $100+. Not paying until i get original cost chargred. Only reason they get 1 star is the drop-off went smooth & the employees were friendly. Thanks for listening & BEWARE

I am very conflicted about this rating. On the one hand, they have the best rates I’ve found. I was renting a car from them 2-3 times a month. I guess the frequency would make the odds of having a bad experience more likely. In the last six months I’ve gotten 2 cars on empty (discovered when I almost ran out in a remote area); another time I had a blowout with five kids in the car. I changed the tire, our trip was ruined and they billed me for $200 repair fee. They do not really take care of their vehicles is my conclusion. I was thinking they should have returned my money for that trip. The thing is, I will probably rent from them again because the office staff at this location is friendly and efficient and chill about late charges, crediting my account for the gas fiasco and the blowout. I think it’s the corporate office that charged my account. The bottom line is that there are even worse rental car places a few blocks away, and if they don’t have a car, they will try to get it for you.

As a Federal Government employee and according to guidance in choosing a rental car company with the lowest rate I chose Payless. WILL NOT do this again. They will add fees to your final bill. And make certain to request a copy of your signed agreement BEFOR you get your car. They will not provide you with the agreement unless you ask. I declined the fuel option and elected to bring the car back full. I filled up 12 min away from the airport and returned the car with a full tank. Somehow they determined I used .6 gal of gas from the gas station to the airport and charged me for gas at the $10/gal rate. What rental car company does that when the needle on the gage says FULL. In the end it was only a few extra $$ but for me it’s dishonest. ALSO, while waiting in line there were MANY people returning their cars to exchange for a different one because of SMELLS, BALD TIRES etc. I was fortunate I got a good car for 2 days but this office was SLOW and customer service was subpar.

Horrible customer service. Had to purchase a battery boost because vehicle would not start without one, had to jump start vehicle everyday for 2 weeks. Ask customer service to compensate for the inconvenience and for purchasing a 80.00 item that was needed. Vacation was off the beaten path, so getting a tow truck wasn't a option. Was told by manager that they wouldn't compensate for anything and I shouldn't have purchased anything I should have called a tow truck. So I told him don't worry about us ever coming back we will take our business somewhere else. After leaving the airport I called and explained my complaint. The lady was very professional and said that it wasn't their policy to not compensate for a faulty vehicle rental. She gave us 104.00 refund for our troubles and sent a email to the hobby airport office letting them know that the management had a complaint made on them. So Payless car rental not horrible, but so called manager at hobby location yeah you suck.

Made a reservation. Flew to Houston. Went to counter to get said reservation. Nobody was there. No signs. No anything. Customer service just said they were closed. Was a sign that said cars were available in the garage. Thought there might be someone in the garage. Search the garage. Nobody in the garage. Finally went across the hall to Avis. Started the process of renting a car. Started telling her the story. She said, "Oh, your rental can be through us." ??? Okay. Got the car. The next day my plans changed and I had to go to New Orleans. Very long story short, had to call customer service 3 times to get zero answers to my question about returning the car to a place I didn't pick it up from. Customer service didn't know the answers so they would put me on hold and then either hang up on me or put me through the phone tree again and have to wait forever to talk to another agent. Finally gave up and just returned the car a few days later in New Orleans.

If I could give a zero I would. The customer service is poor. After booking a rental car through a third party site, I arrive at Payless only to be driven to a whack gate in which I have to walk to what looks like a shack and when I walk in the staff was not welcoming. I had not booked a return flight yet as I was traveling to my hometown for a wedding and wasn't sure what day I wanted to head back yet. Apparently, you can't book a rental without a return flight confirmation nor can you use your debit/credit card here. They only accept credit card...terrible. I wish I could call corporate but they don't have a number for them when you call in. BUT, they do have a fax number...what kind of nonsense?! This is probably because people complain about them all the time. I've since gone to another rental company, with a name and service that I recognize. Never again will I book with Payless rental. I should have known.

I reserved an intermediate SUV on the official Payless website the day before picking it up. When I showed up for my reservation on time the biggest car they had was an intermediate sedan. You would think that they would at least provide a discount for the inconvenience of making me go down several car classes but no, they had the tenacity to actually charge me more than the reservation stated. They told me it was because taxes and fees aren't always accurate on third party websites. Well I booked on the official Payless website so clearly they just overcharge customers and double book cars. The sedan they ended up giving me was also in poor condition, smelling like wet socks with alerts on the dash saying "change engine oil" and "washer fluid low". I rent cars several times a month (and oftentimes at Hobby airport) and have never had such a poor experience at any other facility.

COST OF ONE GALLON OF GAS IS $10 - LET THAT SINK IN!! Like others have stated, I wish I would have read the reviews. We booked via "Kayak" and we were unaware of the name of the place. Guy behind the counter is new, so we tried our best to be patient. There computers kept freezing, so we had to re do our reservation several times. At one point, he needed a manager, whom he called but said, "oh, my Manager must have his phone off." I had to walk around the lot looking for a supervisor just to complete our checkout. When we returned the vehicle, we mentioned they needed to fix the passenger seat which was stuck in an uncomfortable position (nearly 4 inches higher than drivers seat). It made for a miserable 16 hour drive. Instead of apologizing, counter dude accused us of smoking in the vehicle, claiming he found a micro-sized piece of ash in the rear passenger door handle.

The worst possible experience. Waited in line for OVER THREE HOURS. Customer service at the rental counter was pathetic. They had two staff members and a 3 1/2 hour wait. We did not leave with the car until 12:30am. The agents were holding conversations like there was not a long line of people tired and ready to go. Then we were given an electric car despite the refusal. There was hardly anywhere in Houston to charge a car and when you do find them they are generally 10 hours to charge or a 2 hour wait to fast charge. The cost to charge far exceeds filling up a gas tank. We ultimately ran out of a charge because no charge stations worked within a 30 mile radius. Customer service charge almost $200 to tow the car, and sent the uber to the wrong airport, making us miss out flight. DO NOT get an electric vehicle in Houston and DO NOT get a rental after 5pm in Houston.

Do not rent from this location! The first vehicle that we were provided reeked of smoke so bad that it made me cough as soon as I sat in the car. They swapped out the car for another one and apologized. It was raining, and we didn't notice that the registration on the car they gave us was expired. In addition, the service light came on saying that an oil change was needed. We returned the car yesterday, however, as of today the system is still showing that the reservation is open. I have been calling the local office ALL day to resolve this issue and no one is answering the phone. We are going to have to drive an hour to get this resolved because the corporate office is stating that it will take 3-5 business days for a response on their end. I repeat, do NOT rent from this location.

Husband made a reservation for same day pick up but put the phone in his pocket shortly afterwards and accidentally canceled it we spent a while calling the location to fix the issue but nobody would answer the phone I check my bank account and I was charged the whole 100.10 I prepaid for the rental as a cancellation fee so I call the 1800 number and they tell me that they can't refumd me a dime and I asked if I could just reinstate my rental they said I would have to book another reservation and pay the 100 again. Like dude my intentions weren't to cancel the rental my intentions were to be driving a rental from them today. I just know to never come here again and never prepay for a rental again. Like obviously I wanted to rent the car if I freaking prepaid for it!!!!!!!!

I rented a car from them the next day they took it off my credit card after I sent them a good survey back, then the following day they emailed me and said they never received the car, I called them two hours on the phone they still couldn’t find a car then they sent me a certified letter Stating that I should report it stolen so I did explained to Houston police that can’t they just look at the camera’s unfortunately they didn’t work, Then they charge my credit card $1100.00 After they claim it was their mistake they found the car . I was on the phone two hours again finally I had to call the Better Business Bureau to fix it, they didn’t offer me any kind of refund no kind of credit just something saying they apologize for the mistake

Worst experience ever, I'm with the person that said they don't list all their charges but tell you at the counter when you are returning their car. How can I be charged 10$ extra each time I extend the lease by phone. I did that 3 times wasn't told until the day I went to their office to return the car. Secondly going thru the toll gate, they charge your 3$ plus just for going thru the tolls and then the actually toll price on top of the 3$ plus. And I wasn't told this until the day I returned the car. Being almost a week I returned the car and I just got charged almost 60$, I will be calling them and requesting for an itemized bill of the tolls as I think imthis is robbery blatantly. One thing is for sure I won't be using them again.

They double charged me and then charged me for an upgrade they gave to me free because the car i reserved wasn't there. I was charged almost 700 bucks for 4 days and they kept my deposit even though they said they would return it. Read your contract to make sure they don't sign you up for stuff you explicitly turned down. When I called about this they were flippant about knocking off charges which tells me they just tack them on and hope people just accept it. HARDLY took any off though and promised my deposit was not charged after I told them it was. Now I need to call again. I rent a lot. I've heard horror stories about the industry but this is the only time I've witnessed this highway robbery and abusw of credit card trust.

I booked my rental online and my total with TAXES AND FEES was $187. When I got there I was told road side assistance was "INCLUDED in my rental price for my 'SAFETY'" and that the gas recovery option was MANDATORY. I was never given a total. I was in a rush so I didn't see the total that was not highlighted on the paper I had to sign. I check my bank to see the cost of the rental. I was charges $270. The roadside assistance that I was told was "included for your saftey", was an additional $25 or $35 dollars. I WAS NOT informed that it was EXTRA OR OPTIONAL. Smh and to think that I was going to use them as my normal rental service. READ YOUR CONTRACT AND ASK FOR A FINAL PRICE BEFORE YOU swipe your card!

HORRIBLE! We had to buy a $80 battery booster to start our truck we rented. I called the service center, and told them what was going on they said they noted my account. When we turned the truck rental in. Everyone that was in the office was having issues. After a long wait to be helped. (Because no one was able to help with our issue) A man came and told us they don't cover any thing we buy for the vehicle. That we needed to call and get a new vehicle. We was out of down on vacation and it was easier and faster to just buy our booster. Also the lady we spoke to on the phone never once informed us this rule. We will never rent from these people again.

Please do NOT use this company. I was routed by Southwest to rent a car from this company for the first time. Although I paid for a standard size car, they gave me a compact car and charged me for a standard size car. Moreover, my flight was at 6 pm on Saturday. They told me that I can return the car to their sister company (Alamo) across the highway. However, they charged my credit card for an extra day. So I used the car from Thursday 9 AM till Sat 5:30 PM (Less than 60 hours) and they charged me for 4 full days. I tried to solve this through their online portal, but the staff were not responsible and helpful as well. Would NEVER use this company.

Worst experience ever! If i could give 0 stars I would. I was given a car that smelled like someone had just smoked in it. When i complained and the worker came out, she claimed to not be able to smell a thing. The trunk even reeked of cigarettes. Furthermore, she said there were no other comparable cars available even though they had about 4 of the same two more of the same on the lot. If i wanted to pay more i could get something else. She then proceeded to void the contract and only refund a portion of the prepayment. I then called corporate in front of her and had the rest refunded. Don't ever do business with this Payless!

The vehicle was not super clean ( which I'll come back to), they seemed to charge me an extra day. I left my keys in Texas...I have a locator on my keys and after watching it over the Easter weekend it appears to be in the car. They must not clean the cars. I did all the lost and found steps. I have called about 12xs as my keys are now showing at the airport. I can't speak to a competent person to find out if they at the desk now or still in the vehicle. They need to hire better. All I get is broken English and transfers. No assistance or answers at all. The car drove fine no issues there.

After reading the reviews before coming here, I fully expected to receive a horrible experience. However, my experience was the opposite. The shuttle was waiting for me when I walked outside and upon arriving at the location I was given fast service. They were actually out of the car that I reserved so they upgraded me in a new, nice, and clean car. When I dropped it off, it was quick and the van promptly dropped me off at the airport. It was a pleasant experience. Perhaps it was a just a good day but I just wanted to give the employees some credit for giving good service.

Rented a car online, there was nothing stating I had to pay a deposit upon pickup, in fact, my order confirmation said $0 due at pickup. I go through the hassle of finding a ride nearly an hour away to go pick up the car, to be humiliated when I arrived. The place was damn near impossible to find and now my best friend won’t even give me rides anymore after all the complications from this incident. My 7 year old daughter was devastated, we didn’t get to do the things I had planned for us. Thank you, I thought my life couldn’t get any worse but you proved otherwise.

The office is housed in a very small mobile building with just a handful of chairs to sit in while you wait. The staff was friendly, but the Nissan Maxima we received had dust and dirty water spots all over it, as well as bugs on the front bumper cover. I didn't see or hear about a shuttle, but they might have one that's on-demand. Overall, I wouldn't be scared of doing business here again in the future as long as the price is right. You can't necessarily expect perfect white glove service and a sparkling new car when you're paying the discounted rate.

Standing in line, WAITING. Had to wait 30 minutes at airport for a grey van to pick me up while 30 other shuttle vans drove by. Company would not answer phone for 10 minutes. Finally did and said they only had one van. Now I'm in a line with 9 other people and ONE active agent. The other girl at the desk just keeps watching her cell phone and pushing the earplugs in further so she can't hear the ringing phone....This is not a good start to my trip and I'm going to also contact Southwest Airlines about this company having "partner" status.

Reserved a car online. Got to the airport and saw all of the shuttles from other companies come and go. No Payless. So finally we asked another car company who directed us and said to call them, so we did. The lady on the phone gave us attitude so I looked up the reviews and read everything about it being dirty etc... so I cancelled because so far the reviews were proving to be true. I booked online at Alamo for slightly more and our car is perfect! Spotless car, excellent service and no wait at Alamo. Highly recommend Alamo!!

The only reason I use them is for the price...and you get what you pay for. Older vehicles, lower end technology inside & out, and horrible customer service. IF YOU GO IN EXPECTING HORRIBLE SERVICE, your experience will be MUCH better. Don't be in a hurry and watch for an occasional bait & switch. Don't expect them to pick up the phone when you call. Know this going in, and it may not be that bad. Keep in the back of your mind that you saved good money. DO NOT USE if you have a rental option with a comparable price!!

payless. if any one in head quarter or office reading this please do something about this location all the negative ratings I ignore and went rent a vehicle since price deal was low. This vehicle they give me has maintance sign on ..low windsheild fluid sign on GOD knows for how long and dirty smelly vehicle poor cleaning condition. first time I have had such a worse experience. I regret renting from this location. I rent from payless Avis/ budget they all in same office here.

I will never use this company again! Made a reservation on May 13th for pick up July 12th only to find out they couldn't support my 11pm pickup time, which is offered on their website. After I cancelled my reservation within 24 hours of making it, they say I'm not entitled to a refund because I didn't cancel within 48 hours of pickup. Ummm... its May and I'm not scheduled to pick up until July so how is that so?!? Needless to say, I'm disputing with my credit card company.

I have been waiting 50 minutes for the shuttle that is supposed to run every 15 minutes. I have called and spoken to 6 different people who have sent messages to the shuttle service, but no one I have spoken to is actually on site and no one can give me contact information that gets me in touch with a human. I keep ending up in an answer center off-site that has not been able to help me. Poorly labeled, poor customer service, and not a good experience at all.

STAY AWAY!!!! Read the other reviews and notice the consistency: poor curbside service, rude and indifferent employees and dirty, poorly maintained vehicles that are actually a safety hazard (ours pulled to the right, had a leaking bad left tire and was filthy inside). Customer service complaint from corporate was to deny there were any issues and to issue a boilerplate "sorry" and basically a "too bad." Payless should actually be called "Careless."

Lied to me about the price I was paying for my rental... they reassured me I would be charged only $9 on top of the TOTAL COST for my upgrade, but even after clarifying that with them numerous times before signing papers, on my bill they charged me $9 PER DAY and wouldn’t honor the price that was agreed on when the papers were signed. Terrible morals, terrible customer service; will never use this company again nor will I ever recommend.

This was by far the WORST rental car experience I've EVER HAD. Let's put it this way...upon my arrival to the airport, I called to ask where the shuttle driver was and the rude ass broad that answered told me, "He's busy washing cars and will be there whenever he finishes"! I should've known then....I'm not going to even go into detail on the rest of my 2 hr journey with this company. JUST DONT RENT FROM HERE PERIOD!!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED

Recommend anyone else but them. Already made reservations through travelocity and sales rep continued to try to sell me different things that I didn't want. Kept on persisting to sell me upgrades since I was in a vulnerable position tending my 2 children and locked me to a contract that cost me 100.00 extra. Didn't realize until a couple of days later. Called in but they said it was too late. Stay away. They must work off commission

I have my reservation at 8am, and there was no shuttle during 730-830am, made 10 phone calls and finally someone pick it up, the woman on the phone said "there is a bus, I don't know when, it will come" however I have a really important meeting start around 9-930, I switch to another company who has counter on the lobby, and they immediately give me a car. STAY AWAY

We spent an hour waiting for our car. Not waiting in line or talking to an agent - but waiting for them to provide the vehicle that we had reserved weeks before. We sat on the curb with our children in the Houston heat and waited for our car. When we returned the car with a small amount of sand - we were told we had “severely damaged” the vehicle and fined. I will never, ever rent from this company again.

I usually read reviews first, I should have! As others have stated these crooks will charge your card for 10% more than your original agreement and when you call they claim it is airport charges. What a joke! DO NOT RENT WITH THESE GUYS! Choose a real rental company like Hertz Beyond the overcharging the car was filthy, smelled terrible, steering wheel was sticky and disgusting. Not a good experience!

Good customer service. They got us and the people we were in line with in and out into our cars quickly. The prices were unbelievably cheap and the car we rented was in like new condition - what you would expect from a rental car. The drop off was quick and easy too. We parked it, they scanned it for damages and made sure the tank was full, we gave the keys back and we were done. Nice and easy.

I've always used Enterprise but Payless had a deal that I couldn't resist. Rented a car (only drove it 200 miles) and 2 weeks after I returned it I receive a letter stating that I was being charged for pet hair in the car. I never had any pets in the car and I returned it just as clean as when I picked it up. I had to fight to get the charges removed. I will NEVER rent from this company again.

The office is located in a trailer offsite of the airport. The vehicle was dirty and had a foul odor. When we dropped the vehicle off at 830AM, nobody was at the office. We had to leave the vehicle in an “after hours” drop and pay for an uber to get to the airport. I am giving it two stars (instead of one) because the employee behind the counter was very friendly and professional at pick up.

CARS ARE NOTHING LIKE WHAT YOU ASSUME THEY WILL BE. ALSO BE SURE TO CHECK THE VEHICLE INSIDE AND OUT. I HAD GARBAGE UNDER MY DRIVER SEAT, CHIPPED PAINT AND THE REAR TIRE HAD A SLOW LEAK. I felt so bad for these employees! They are stuck in a trailer with NO AIR CONDITIONER in the Houston, TX heat!!!!!! No wonder they seemed low energy and lack luster! Our first car was very dirty and smelled like smoke- we got a different car, less dirty, still smelled like smoke! The highlight of the rental was being pulled over by POLICE because the FRONT LICENSE PLATE WAS MISSING.

Do not rent from these guys. They gave me a dirty car that reeked of smoke and then accused me of smoking in their car when returned and charged my cc over $300 for the smoke. I have never smoked in my life, these guys are crooks. I have sent a note to corporate, AMEX (have disputed charge) and SWA (to remove them from their link) to alert them about these guys....stay away!!!

Flight got changed because of hurricane and since I didn't show up at original time they tried to charge me more than double. Zero customer service. They flat out don't care. Tried explaining this to person at counter and his answer was "ok". And I don't want someone from Payless to comment on this post and say "sorry for your experience" that is worthless at this point.

Front drives side tire is bald and Was flat Drivers seat and passenger seats are dirty Passenger seat has a cigarette burn in it I called every number on the paperwork and couldn’t get a human on the line (hours trying) I’m now going on one hour in my hotel on hold for customer service And yes I tried call the emergency roadside number and never reached anyone

I just rented a car from Payless, the total amount that I signed for was $32.35, but surprise surprise, I just checked my bank account and I saw that they actually charged me for $45.53. Are they stealing like this from everyone? What a shame, I was gonna post positive review since their customer service was pretty good, but no way, don't go here.

Car rental places are really getting shady since Covid. My niece came in from California and had a car reserved for a certain price and when she got to this place then the price was more that double, over 600 for the two days she was here. So I just went to pick her up. Sad that these companies are taking advantage of people.

Booked a car over the phone but when I got there, I was told there was no reservation for me. $348 was taken out of my account by Payless car but I never got it now I have to find a way to get my money back. I’ve heard this has happened to several People when I got to the counter. I will never use them again.

Worse company i had to work with. Rented a car with pick up in Houston. Waited for the shuttle for 30 min after i called twice . Finally we get to the parking lot to find out they have no cars and they dont know when they will arrive. Had to book with Dollar instead at a much higher price. Never again

My truck broke down that day & this was the only place open to get a rental on Sunday in the area. They were very quick & getting a car was easy. I love the way you check out there. Just go to the vehicle & get in drive to exit & show your license to show you are assigned to. Very friendly agents.

just make sure youre going to the correct place. payless has combined with the avis/budget building across the street from the original location. typical rental car place, they were doing construction when we arrived which wasnt a big deal. parking for this place is terrible.

Waited 20 minutes for a shuttle van to pick us up, and they only showed up because someone at the airport info desk called them for me. Slow counter service. Doesn't open til 7 and my flight departs at 8. I'm sitting in their parking lot waiting for them to open.

This is not an upscale shop. It's a temporary building near the airport. The ladies that worked at the shop were nice and the car was fine. They were the cheapest rental available. There was a problem with my reservation, but they did their best to help fix it.
