Posting this review out of concern and ensure action is made for the reptile care department. Since the departure of a few employees at the location the care and maintenance of the reptiles and their displays have plummeted. Either left empty with vacant spots or habitats that are bare bones and reflect little care to the animals displayed. I’ve visited twice in the past week to see a very young juvenile Blue Tongue Skink hiding under his hide showing very little signs of movement and eyes partially sunken in energy. *Adding a note I own a 8 month Norther Blue Tongue Skink and have experience taking care of and handling unwell reptiles and Skinks* The first time I noticed him sleeping his enclosure was relatively bare with only one hide and a feeding dish with loose uncut greens far too big for a pup that young with no signs of variety, protein , or supplements they need to prevent BBD and ensure they are providing an enriching diet for the skink. Second time around to pick up more supplies I checked in on the little guy to find him in the same exact space with some minor shed lifting but still looking severely lethargic and had difficulty moving around. Food bowl was the same overly large uncut greens, with the addition of loose crickets running around the cage which are horrible source of vitamins and protein for Skinks. I hope the little guy will get taken care of properly but it is extremely concerning that petco is attempting to offer amazing new exotics to the general public but is unable to properly educate their staff and management of how to care for unique exotic species especially one that is known for being intelligent great pets that have the capability of recognizing their owners faces and voices, can express happiness , stress, playfulness, fear , and a diverse range of emotions when observed or handled. When or if someone at this location sees this post I hope adjustments are made please review the care and needs of BTS in depth to understand their complex but basic needs that don’t require much more time than most other pets.

We have been taking Doug to grooming at the La Brea location for 3 years. Our dog has never been aggressive, never bites, doesn’t have any health conditions. He is just a little anxious (as most dogs get) and usually the groomers here are super understanding and help him. Never had ANY issues. Today 10/14, we had a scheduled mini make rover with Gloria. Check in was normal. We were informed it would take 5-10 mins for his appointment to be complete and she would call us over the speaker. As soon as we walk away, maybe 1-2 minutes, she calls us to return. We return and she tells us she is unable to do the service today do to his anxiety. She also informs us that they can’t force him to do anything he doesn’t want to do. I voice my concerns as this has never been an issue. She tellls me again that she is sorry but can’t do the appointment and that “he should be groomed by a mobile grooming service”. She then informs me that he will be noted as “referred out” in the system so he would unable to have appointments made online. I ask what that means and if she was saying he was unable to return to this location and she said yes. I honestly am upset that he wasn’t given a chance and let alone offered to be rescheduled. Again we have come to this location for 3 years and have had numerous grooming baths, hair cuts, and mini-makeovers.

I stopped by this week to see what they had in terms of guppies. I’d been wanting a lyretail for a while but hadn’t seen many in the area and thought I would just take a look. Fortunately, I thought, they had one in stock and I bought him and brought him home. When I put him in my tank I noticed a spot on his nose that I hadn’t noticed from the angle I could see him at the store but because this store is well reviewed and I figured they probably medicate their tanks to prevent infections I really didn’t think anything of it. The next day I woke up to find this lyretail guppy dead. I brought him back and figured he just couldn’t handle the stress of the transfer... the next day I wake up to find a female guppy dead another female with her dorsal fin all white and rotted looking. I flushed them both hoping the Petco lyretail hadn’t introduced disease to my tank. Today I woke up to my female beta’s face all covered in fungus and half the body of one of my fancy tail males covered as well. I went to the store to ask if they could comp me the medication for introducing disease to my tank but the best they could do was a discount... So it looks like a $4 lyretail guppy from this place is going to cost me 5 fish and a bottle of medication. I’m very disappointed and will never shop at this location again.

I ordered $115 worth of items be cause you offer curbside and since my son has an underlined health condition we are still very careful about being exposed. Your website says it offers curbside your recording at the store says you offer curbside and you have designated parking spots for curbside at your store location. Yet when I showed up to pick up my order I called a female picked up the phone and stayed you no longer offer the service and that I had to come into the store and hung up. I was furious but had no choice but to go inside and pick up my already paid for items. There were 10 people in line not all wearing masks, with one cashier I had to wait 10 minutes for someone to help me at you online purchase desk. I don’t think I will ever come back. Your competitors offer curbside and although they are a bit further I’d rather travel a longer distance to patronize a business that offers services that they advertise and who have better customer service. I was very upset the fact so many of your customers had no masks on and I was forced to enter that environment location that I have gone to get tested for COVID19. My results better come back negative or you will hear from me again!

I went to petco the other day and I was looking for royal canine food but it was sold out and the manufacture company of the food was just having problems in general before I got to this petco I went to another one in Beverly Hills and it was also sold out.I had no other options but to switch dogs food brand I actually been wanting to change my dogs food but i didn’t know which brand I wanted to switch too I didn’t want such a big change for my dogs either so I ask devan a employee at petco what he would recommend he recommended me a great new brand he was very helpful and he knew his facts he also recommended me to take a pumpkin Digestive supplement to help my dogs with the new transition of food. Got home it all worked out prefect my dogs loved the new food brand they transition very smoothly this new brand is more better and healthier and there poop is great good texture no diarrhea it all went great big thanks to DEVAN for being a great employee

This store is the worst and I highly recommend you take your business elsewhere. I won’t dwell on the fact that it’s clearly dirty—very dirty—and instead discuss their lack of customer service. I’ve been to Petco stores all over the state and have found staff to be generally helpful and knowledgeable. Not in this location! On each of my three visits, I have asked for a product and been met by a cold stare from an employee; not only that, there is active disinterest on their part in being helpful or accommodating. I will never go to this location again, and I have lots of dog needs, as do both my sons who each have two dogs. I’ll share my experience with everyone I know and I’m hopeful that a new management style will somehow improve this store & bring back customers who have taken their sizable business needs to a friendlier and more positive environment.

The first visit was great, every visit since has gotten progressively worse. The first time, the staff took their time with my dog, called me with an update, everything was fine. They did, however, charge me for an upgraded service I did not want. Because everyone was nice, I let it slide. The second time, absolutely no one called or texted to let me know that my dog's grooming was done. It was only once I arrived at Petco and asked what was going on that I was told it was my own fault for not downloading the Petco App. I let this slide. The third time, I arrived to the odd sound of a dog yelping and howling from the back room. After 5 minutes of technical difficulties ringing me up, I was then cheerily informed that this howling was in fact my dog (who never howls). Again, I was charged for an upgraded service I did not ask for. This was my last visit.

My dog was neutered today and spent most of the day sleeping. It was not until 7:45, when the dog finally awakened, that I realized that the soft cone was too short. He's a poodle with a long snout and immediately started licking the incision. I was concerned that he would be licking all night and that he'd get infected. I contacted Petco, knowing that the store closed at 8:00. When I told the manager the problem, he told me that he'd keep a register open for me in case I arrived after closing. I arrived right at 8:00 and they helped me pick out the right cone and rang me up at 8:06. Thank you, Louis, for being such a great store manager and helping me keep my dog healthy.

Tried four separate times to get an appointment for a teeth cleaning and nail trim and the first two times I left my number in person and was never called back, I finally come in for the third time in-person and get an appointment scheduled for the next day, only to be denied an appointment during my scheduled time due to medical history. Not being able to schedule a la cart services and in person scheduling taking way too long , on top of no warnings or notices of what paperwork I need him to be cleared. This whole experience has been terrible and my dog is so over due for a trim because I wasted so much time trying to get in, don’t go here.

OMG THE customer service here is AMAZING!! Carmen is the best when it comes to helping you out. When I came in with my problem, I right away felt like she actually cared and advised me in many things that ended up being so beneficial to my tank. Alejandra was another person who helped me with my tank. She's the best on giving precautionary advice and well in tune with explaining logistics and procedures. These two will always be my go to people from now on; simply because of their outstanding performance and customer service. Dang, I even think they need a double pay raise!

I feel frustrated every time I come here due to the indifferent and unprofessional attitude of the employees. I saw an item on the Petco website and asked the employee at the counter if it was available in the store, but they told me to check online instead. So I came here because it was listed as available online, but when I arrived, it seemed like the item was not in stock. I asked the employee to help me find out more, but they claimed not to know where it was and instead focused on their phone. I don't understand why they are even here if they don't want to work.

Wow Petco South LaBrea! Their corporate store teams would be wise to study what’s working at this location, and replicate it! Genuine, happy employees can be hard to come by in retail settings, management who stop and strike up friendly conversation are also hard to come by, but both are natural at PetCo South LaBrea. Yesterday’s experience featured Damian and Dr. Caitlin Fay - mini miracle workers providing top notch care to Angelenos. I might get more healing from an hour at this PetCo than from an hour with my therapist. Definitely returning and recommending!

By far the only pet store in LA I haven't had good experience. They have plenty of options available for anything you want. But the store does a bad job when it comes to customer service. I couldn't find a product and tried to find the nearest employee that could help me, who ends up throwing attitude. Doesn't move an inch to help me after we've made eye contact and she recognizes that I need help. I had to walk across the shop to go talk to her and she didn't really seem to care about the questions I had. One word answers, THERE, HERE, GO!

Item from science diet wet food available for my dog older adult above 7+ is always hard to find anywhere else and very happy that petco has it available here at this location since its very close to my home. Easy pick up and customer service girl in the front was able to get me in and out in less than 3 minutes since I placed my order online I was just picking up, everything was quick and fast really appreciate that. Easy, quick, fast. parking lot area is a plus!!

I find a complaint with your corporate office weeks ago about a experience at this very store. I called a second time after no one called me back. To this day I have never heard back from anyone. The only reason I shopped at the store the other day is because I was out of cat litter and the store is located across the street from my home! Otherwise I don't plan to do business with a company that doesn't care how it's customers are treated!

Worst customer service. I placed an order for pick up. One item wasn’t what I wanted so I tried to return it two minutes later. I didn’t even made it to my car. I was send to two different registers both made me feel very uncomfortable cause they couldn’t find my account with the phone number and the rewards card. I left the item that I paid for at the register and left without a credit or refund. Disgusting people they should be ashamed.

Very nice people, I always depend on them to locate one thing or another for me. Everyone I've ever asked for help has had great product knowledge, patience, poise, and a nice attitude. It is a happy store. I have never used the grooming service but I have seen a few movie star animals. I mean, they were posing. I think. The dogs and cats all have happy attitudes, tact and reason, and great product knowledge, but they're not talkin'.

This pet shop is my #1 shop for my pet's prerequisites. The food assortments for my pets are open here which were so subtle every so often. Moreover, they could prepare your pets in case you need. Besides, on the off chance that you're looking for an additional pet. Without a doubt, they had a lot of pets accessible to be bought too. The spot was so especially broad as well. My guinea pigs needed food and my cat needed her joint supplement and I didn't think what I had would hold them over until I did a Chewy order so I stopped in at Petco cuz it was conveniently located along my route to get my kids from school. They had everything I needed but it was a bit difficult to navigate around the pallets in the middle of the aisle and the staff was only moderately helpful.

Excellent service. I was having my dog groomed by Andrew snd Matthew, who provided excellent service. Andrew recommended products for my dog; greenies for teeth and a King curry brush. The sales representatives found the products for me quickly and were most kind. The cashier provided excellent service. All the staff were most kind and courteous as well as knowledge.

Great store, one stop shop for whatever animal you have. We have two dogs and a horse and every time we need something they had it in stock at very reasonable prices. Staff is friendly and helpful. The grooming service is fantastic as well, the dogs are treated very well and they come out of there perfectly groomed.

Decided to get muzzles for both of my dogs who have suddenly gone bad and want to snap at other dog. I just wanted those nylon wrap around ones not the big scary looking basket ones. They work pretty good. They can still drink water while they wear the muzzle. I feel better knowing they won't bite another dog

Was turned down at Petco grooming because we didn’t make it in their 15 min grace period, but that’s only after they saw my dog was a mini golden doodle. I was never informed about being there within 15 mins of the appointment time, when the process takes 4 hours. Not returning to this store again.

I just dont feel right buying goldfish flakes for $7 when most other pet stores have the same exact product for a fraction of the price. Although the employees at Petco are very nice and on top of their customer service.

I go here for my pet’s grooming needs. Ernesto is our usual groomer and he always leaves Gracie the way we ask. He makes dropping her off an ease. She also really likes him so she follows him and doesn’t get nervous when she gets there. We trust she’s in good hands and we’re always satisfied.

I really like this Petco. They are very friendly. The parking is pretty easy. They are now carrying higher ended pet food which i like but they run out of a lot of food that i buy, especially when it goes on sale. I like that they have rescue kitties there to hopefully get adopted.

This is a great store with a good selection of goodies for my cat. The one point deduction is because I couldn’t find any Instinct duck cat food until I dug deep behind a pile of chicken cat food to find one tiny can. The problem is why duck was mixed with chicken.

We started puppy training classes at this location and have had a wonderful experience! The trainer Jack is kind, articulate, patient and so encouraging with our puppy Shadow. He really is an amazing trainer and Petco is lucky to have him! Highly recommend.

Very helpful customer service. This is the most extensively stocked Petco I've ever seen. If you have picky eaters or special dietary needs pets, this Petco has it. Finding the entrance as a pedestrian was tricky though, it's in the back parking lot.

They are so helpful here and so kind. I usually order for pick up 1 hour to 30 mins before getting there, and it's ready like 90% of the time(they do say it can take up to 2hrs) so its nice its usually ready for my last minute self. Lots of parking.

I brought my 14 month old, 73 lbs dog here for a bath. Made a same day appt on a Sunday, which is hard to do anywhere. Staff was very sweet and patient with the dog. Prices were phenomenal, $39 as opposed to the $60+ I had been paying elsewhere.

Zero stars! I do not write reviews but this warrants one. My dog has been getting groomed at this petco for two years. Two months ago when I picked him up from grooming, on the way home my dog sat in my lap and my pants were full of blood.
