Moved from Durban to Cape Town in September 2022. We moved with our bunny and this was the first pet store we visited as it was vital for us to find a one-stop store for all her needs. Obviously with this being such a massive store which offered grooming services, I was in absolute awe! Unfortunately, I've been to this store 3 or 4 times since September 2022, on each occasion, I have interacted with staff who made me feel as though I did not belong in their store. They were not very welcoming at all. They were not friendly. They did not know what the prices were and were unwilling to find out if they had more stock. They were short in their responses. And this was after standing, waiting, and looking for staff in the first place. It just feels like every time I go there, I feel unwelcome and unwanted. The female staff seem to place themselves on a platinum pedestal for absolutely no reason. At each payment occasion, I've had to same cashier ask me if I have the pet world app. I say no because I have never heard of it. It sounds like some rewards system perhaps which I am all for. But this cashier does not bother to elaborate and explain this app. I just find it silly that as a staff member, who know I have a pet who makes use of your grooming services every month or so, why would you not want me to join this app and perhaps earn some rewards? During my last visit, my bunny had her nails clipped. After her grooming appointment which occurred in the hallway instead of inside the grooming room, I walked a bit further into the store to buy hay for her. A staff member approached me, no hello nothing and proceeded to tell me that my bunny, who had just completed an in-store grooming appointment was not allowed in the store due to a deadly bunny disease. Whatever the case is regarding this conveniently lethal bunny disease, it was the final straw for me. Will not be visiting the store again until a complete staff makeover has occurred. And I've found a much smaller, cheaper store nearby with staff who stand at the door ready to greet with a smile, provide me with information I don't even have to ask for, regarding pets I don't even have, and are willing to go the extra mile because they know about their stock, prices, and basic customer service.

I found what I was looking for, cause I had been to a few shops looking for the same jersey. I was shocked that the price was R180 more expensive than my vet or other stores. So I asked the woman why they so much more expensive. The woman told me, "because we are the Woolworths of Pet stores and you welcome to go back to the other stores. I looked at her and said I am leaving, she then proceeded to laugh at me as I left. I have spent over 5k on marine fish from this store and purchase my dog food about 1k a month. I can afford your store, but I will not be ripped off. 1. I have been belittled in front of the staff and customers. 2. The staff member made me feel I was not worthy of shopping at Petword. 3. I was so embarrassed that I left the store from her reaction. I got in my car so furious and angry. I called the store and asked to speak to the manager, she chatted with me on the phone and said I need to come back to the store to identify the staff member. I did so and when I confronted the staff member she had a mouth full of teeth and nothing to say. She told me she was on the phone but lied. The manager did confess the store is more expensive than other pet stores, but you NOT WOOLWORTHS, you do not make your own brand. I will be sending this mail to your Suppliers and they need to know the daylight robbery and uneducated staff members with their disgusting attitude. PETWORLD I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN YOUR STORE AGAIN. ANYONE READING THIS POST I CAN GUARANTEE YOU BETTER SERIVCE AT ANY OTHER PETSTORE AT BETTER PRICES.

So far giving one star only. They are taking online orders when they are in actual fact NOT DOING ONLINE ORDERS. The result thus you do NOT GET YOUR ORDER!! Orders come from Cape Gate, but forget about getting hold of them, they DO NOT REPLY TO EMAILS, or CALLS!!! I had to basically phone every store to be able to speak to SOMEONE at least, thanks to Lucera at the Roodepoort branch, who was kind enough in assisting me. Turns out that they do not have half my order, but she said she will send the dog food from her Roodepoort store and has requested a refund for the rest of the order from Melissa Tupper, Cape Gate. Lets see, because after reading the reviews on the Cape Gate store, they sound terrible and useless. Customer service is not up to standard, I can now agree. Unfortunately, until I have received my refund, which they promised they will do today, I am not relaxing until I see it back in my account, and if not, because I am close to Roodepoort, I will go there and make my claim and will also put a review up on Hellopeter..... IF, on the other hand, I do get my order and REFUND, I will post another review confirming that I did.

Not happy with the customer service that I received with my mentally disabled patient. (i am her carer) We got helped by a lovely young lady, very friendly - clearly still learning though. She rang everything up nicely and gave our total and asked if we are loyalty members. My mentally disabled patient asked what it is and as the friendly cashier was explaining to us, the coloured cashier next to her chipped in and interrupted her. I didn't appreciate that or the way the coloured cashier was speaking to my patient. And to top it off, she was chewing gum with her mouth wide open while speaking to us. When we left i told her that my patient is there to spend lots of money nearly every week and she needs to learn some respect and she just gave us a dirty look when we left. No apology was offered, i apologized to the other cashier though because she didn't deserve that, as you could see that she was still learning and very flustered. Very disappointed.

Took my dog to the groomers twice. The first time my partner went she said it was so easy and there weren't any issues and had great service. The second time however, I brought the same dog for exactly the same service and said we needed vet clearance for it and we told this lady that last time there weren't any issues. So she said then it's fine, not sure if there is a miscommunication between staff, but the services advertised is what I booked for online, and nowhere does it say that there is vet clearance needed for any of it. And if there was one needed I would've liked some clear proof. HOWEVER, I love this petstore, if you are looking to get food, accessories, toys, etc, it is an excellent choice.

Horrible attitude and complete lack of knowledge and willingness to help. I drove for an hour to get here after having spoken to staff over the phone. Once I arrive it turns out that the information was completely wrong. When I tried to buy a substitute, the guy with the curly hair at the fish section was completely unwilling to give me any advice on crucial aspects such as food or habitat for the fish I bought and seemed to be bothered he could not carry on with anything else besides helping customers. If this were only about bad customer service I would be less worried but since you are trading in live animals, such a lack of interest and knowledge is getting quite unethical.

Wide selection of animals and pet care products. They do close without notification though so you may arrive as I did yesterday and they are closed for stock take and then do not open on time the next morning. Staff not friendly, don't greet and some, their opinions on the animals is based on personal experience or preference instead of the actual animal and it's temperament and care needs. Store is clean and well stocked. Vet side, always open and the lady that was there yesterday greeted with a smile and was helpful as much as she could be given the other section was closed. Plenty of parking outside but it's shared with the rest of the shopping centre so it is limited.

Only 7 days guarantee on glass fish tanks - for such an expensive item this is really bad. Will definiately rather support shops that give better guarantees on high priced items. My fishtank started to leak after a month. All they say is that I can bring it in and they will send it away for repairs, but on my account. What must I do with my fish in the meantime. No, Petworld. Get a better supplier for your fishtanks. Items that are R1000 and more need better guarantees. And I did phone your manager. She was the one that told me that there is only a 7 day guarantee. And she doesn't know what I must do with my fish while the tank is in for repairs. Not good client service.

OUR COCKATIEL ALMOST DIED! Bought this hanging seed pod from pet world not realising there is a sharp piece of wire shaped like a fish hook on the inside! Our cockatiel got caught on this sharp piece of wire and it went straight through his throat and came out of his mouth. He literally got impaled on this thing and luckily we were here to pull him off of it otherwise he would have not survived. Pet world, you guys seriously need to scrutinize your products for safety!!! This product almost cost our cockatiel his life. I am shocked beyond belief that the company that make these things could not foresee this as being dangerous to peoples beloved pets.

Not very impressed with the service. Ordered products from the online store. You get confirmation of the order. No correspondence on the tracking. I had to make contact and ask when I can expect delivery. I was told I will be contacted as soon as they spoke to the distributor. I had no feedback. I received a message 7 days later saying my parcel was out for delivery after a few days of contacting. When the parcel was delivered items that I paid for wasn’t in the box. I contacted the customer service email with no response. First and last time purchasing online with Petworld. Extremely disappointed Not very good service with the online orders.

i have bought several fish from them and many have died within the first 24 hrs of having them. i bought a stunning betta fish yesterday and noticed that he was quite skinny. this afternoon, i got home to find him dead, not even 24 hrs after i purchased him. i should've been more careful with my choice of retailer. it is unacceptable to spend R300 on an animal you want to incorporate into your home and then having it die. petsworld, you sold me a sick fish for R300 and i found out you guys dont do refunds on livestock. R300 down the drain. not only this fish but many others before that have died or had issues. im honestly so disappointed

Very Big Store. Cats, dogs, birds, snakes , hamsters, mice etc Needs more staff to help out. We where there in the week .Only one guy on hand to help with selecting fishes and when I asked him a quick question he said he was busy with a client but he could call someone else. He did help us in the end. Fishes are extreamly expensive here. 1 fish R189.00 in Aug 2022 and another R500.00 fish the size of the palm of your hand. Others where very small still and just as expensive. Fish tanks where just as expensive. I was very surprised. Went off to another store and was able to get 4 Gouramies at have the price.

We drove all the way here to buy an expensive ultra sonic anti bark device from the Cape Gate Store. We go up to the counter where they’re 4/5 staff standing chatting. We stand in front of them. Not one greets us. Not one offers to help us. After asking still not one staff member offers to help. We simply ignored and laughed off!!! Great customer service guys!!!!! Needless to say we walked out & will rather spend our money with a shop that cares about its customers. Plus one can’t post on their Facebook page or write a review. Geee, I wonder why?? Scared of the truth??

The store has a fantastic stock and variety catering for all types of pets - everything under one roof! I took off one star for prices being a little high and another for lack of service. I was in the store for pribably 30-45 minutes - several items i looked at were not priced/marked and no-one in sight to ask. When later i did ask one of the staff about a price on a grooming brush, she was vague and left, leaving me wasting time waiting at the item, for her never to return with the price. Staff at till were very helpful and friendly though.

I just want to say your fish section is INCREDIBLE. The staff on that side are extremely knowledgeable on various plants, substrates, water parameters for each and let alone their knowledge on fish. I am extremely impressed with everyone from that side (I only reference the fish side of the store because that's the only place I need to go I'm sure everyone else is just as good). To anybody looking at getting into the hobby or just looking for some new perspective on how to take care of what you have definitely check this store out.

On 29 September 2023, I order dogfood online from Petworld. The food was dispatched from Petworld Cape Gate. The wrong dogfood was delivered. There is a R320 price difference in the food ordered and the food delivered. I contacted Petworld many times over. A certain Vanessa promised that Taryn (allegedly the best customer service agent) will resolve the issue. I am yet to get any feedback from Taryn or anyone from Petworld. Emails and calls are simply ignored and/or the message never conveyed to the relevant person.

1st and probably last time I shall be purchasing a snake in Cape Town. Worst experience, from stuff being rude, being told I did not purchase any snake from them, losing my transport permit and filling the permit 3weeks later after purchasing the snake. Think it would be easier to fly to Pretoria and purchase them there hassle free. Please note this delay has nothing to do with any waiting period of Cape Nature. And as I post this I still do not have my snake, praying my permit is actually send thru to Cape Nature.

Received absolutely amazing service from the moment my order was placed. Kelly & Taryn went above and beyond to assist. I received a product which I had order, but was not represented correctly on their website. However, without even blinking Taryn offered to even collect it from my place. I have now received confirmation of my refund. Even though most would be upset in this case, they went the extra mile and really made an effort to help me. They both definitely deserve a raise.

Went to Petworld with my neighbors. They purchased a cat basket en new fluffy dome bed for their two little fur kids. I bet you can spend a whole day there just looking at their wide variety of products that I assume caters for all pet owners needs. When we entered two four legged friends were busy being groomed. You know when an animal feels safe am comfortable, and those two did. Well done Petworld for taking such good care of souls that can't speak for themselves.

Maybe rethink your trolley policy, I had to buy large volume of pet food, but due to the no access to a trolley, I bought the smallest quantities I could carry, thus you are losing out on sales. I do not carry any cash, thus never have any change, to deposit to get access to a trolley. I do understand you don't want your trolleys all over the grounds, but think of a solution for people with no cash or specifically a R5 coin when they desperately need a trolley.

On 21-08-2023 I placed an online order for my regular 20 kg dog food x 2 and added 4 boxes of dog biscuits (✅ Pd). Sadly although I’ve been in touch several times with both Taryn and Kim I have yet to receive my order. This is so disappointing as if started developing a good relationship with Petworld online (this is the fourth purchase). Can’t say the relationship will continue sadly. The staff at the aquarium section is always willing to go above and beyond to provide the best service. When I made a purchase, they personally delivered it to my place. Additionally, I needed some bags for fish I was getting elsewhere, and the staff kindly assisted me by providing the bags. I'm truly grateful for their exceptional service and helpfulness. Best spot to get fish and great advice with purchase too. The aquarium staff really know their fish. I got some happy White Cloud Mountain Minnow, A Pea Puffer and Swords from petworld. *Update - I still come back to petworld, I must admit, this got addictive and sometimes just to admire the aquarium section though today I added 2 Swords, 2 White Cloud Minnows to my school and added a bonus Red Tail Shark... My tank is looking amazing!

Love to go do shopping at Petworld for our ferret. The shop is clean and the layout makes it easy to find what you looking for. FRIENDLY and helpful staff is ready to assist you and the animals in the shop are well looked after and safe. Price on cages and toys are very expensive (rabbits, parrots, birds an ferrets) that's why I rate 4 stars. Other than that, definitely a Petshop I will recommend. @Petworld: keep up the good work

I had a very bad experience today at the Grooming section of Petworld Cape Gate. I took my pure bred Siberian cat for a wash, booked him in for a wash, nail clip and HYGIENE wash. I got my cat back looking like a poodle!!! They shaved all his beautiful long hair off!! He is a Siberian cat, used to forests, and CANNOT stand sun on his white skin. Also he is irritated with his skin now, and constantly cold!! I will not use them again.

Just popped in to this store looking for food for my 3 tarantulas and left with the food decorations and a new toy for my doggies. So I will definitely be returning to this gem. The prices are really reasonable and the variety is incredible from aquatic to reptiles to birds and doggos and comrade cats. Even bunnies. Staff argued infront of customers, multiple crested geckos all different sizes were left in one enclosure and fighting between them had already happened and to top it off the thing I bought doesn't work and they won't accept it for a return. I was so in awe of this place when I went in. It's so big and has tons selections for every pet you might have. I love the variety and was pleasantly surprised to see that they even have a groomers and vet inside the store as well. Staff were friendly and offered assistance. Definitely an exciting store and they have fish, rabbits, reptiles, birds and mice in store as well.

I spent over R600 there buying a fish and when I got home only to see my poor fishy has rotten fin. I was so excited about my new pet that I didn't even see he was ill. I'm disgusted that they sold me a ill pet. They also let me buy fish tonic for my fishs health" I didn't question it but it's because he has fin rot!!!! Half of his front fin is gone

Im very disappointed , the staff there dont seem to have much knowledge about fish care and husbandry. I was concerned that their lack of expertise could lead to unhealthy or unsafe environments for fish, and I believe it's important for them to educate themselves on these issues. This is without a doubt the most empathetic, compassionate and understanding team in the Northern suburbs, in fact - the whole Cape Town region. Nice and clean from reception to consulting rooms. I would definitely recommended the Vet at Pet World XXL in Brackenfell if any of your fur-babies are in need of some TLC.

Absolutely love the variety the shop has available. The pup toys especially was of great quality and one of the only toys places I buy toys from that my pup does not manage to demolish in 10 minutes. Also happy that you have such a variety of great quality food such as the hills canned food etc. Well done guys!

We had our geriatric Jack Russel washed and his nails clipped here today. They were kind,caring and patient with our old guy who doesn't like a lot of things. The groomer didn't upset Charlie and he came out wagging his tail and smelling fresh. Thank you for taking care with our old guy.

Bought a snake for my son’s 6th birthday. Was told it would take 22 days. Closer to the end of the 22 days was told that Petworld is having problems with their permits can actually not sell the snake and they cannot say how long it will take. Disappointing service and disappointed boy

Took my dog to groomer, not the friendliest of people, its as if they treat animals just as objects to get their job done. She hated the experience and picked up bacterial infection on her skin...so ended up needing to pay an expensive vet bill...never going back

Ran into an issue with a water chiller I ordered from Pet World, the help was FANTASTIC! They helped courier back to manufacturer and sorted out a refund, they were also able to help me with an upgrade for the chiller which is much better!
