In order to give an establishment a fair chance, I always like to try a place twice before giving a review. The first time I tried Pilos (last year), I was horribly disappointed. But last Saturday, we gave it another try. We arrived early - about 4 pm, and were one of 3 tables with customers. I first noticed that our table cloth was dirty - full of crumbs and food from the night before! Looking around, I realized that the carpets had not been vacuumed either, the windows had weeks of built up dirt on them, and there seemed to be dust bunnies everywhere. Not a good sign. I've always believed that if a restaurant can't take care of the visible stuff, then there's a good chance that they're not taking care of the invisible stuff either (ie: the kitchen). In any event, we ordered calamari ($12.95) as an appetizer. It arrived so quickly (30 seconds), that I questioned the server about whether or not it had been pre-made. She assured me it hadn't. Where do I begin to describe this dish? It was a utter mess! Rubbery and chewy with such a strong fishy taste that it was completely inedible. To make matters worse, it was served with a slice of lemon that looked like it had a bite taken out of it - which I sent back. We decided to keep the rest simple. Two plates of chicken souvlaki (served with greek salad, tzatziki, rice and potatoes $17.95 ea.). The only thing I could bare to eat was the chicken (which was pretty bland and overcooked) and rice. The potatoes looked like they were a week old! Brown, wrinkly and hard as a rock. The "salad" was sliced tomatoes and onions, with not a drip of dressing, and the tzatziki was runny, like it had been watered down. All this for $60.00 + tax + gratuity. Save yourself the trouble, you can get a better meal at Mr. Greek in the mall for less than half the money. What I don't understand is that this place always seems to be busy. Why??? For those of you who are used to decent greek food (a la Toronto's Greek town) - you'll hate this place! I struggled to give it even 1 star.
Visited Pilos Restaurant with my wife for lunch. Our visit was started off with garlic bread, which we found very strange considering we thought we were at a Greek restaurant. Usually a Greek restaurant will start with a side of pita bread and some tzatziki. I was going to get souvlaki on a pita ($7.95) but it did not come with any sides. I eat a lot of Greek food and I found that the price was pretty high for only a souvlaki pita considering how cheap chicken and pork is these days. I asked how much a side of fries were (not listed on their menu) and the cost was $5 (one size only). I was even more shocked at how much a side of fries cost. We decided to order of the lunch special menu and we both got the souvlaki platter special ($13.95 each). The special came with a single stick of pork or chicken souvlaki, potatoes, rice, Greek salad, and a small side of tzatziki. The souvlaki, rice, potatoes, and tzatziki were all good however the Greek salad (lettuce version) was actually served with Italian dressing and came with no feta cheese (which is also usually a Greek salad standard). Overall the found was fairly good but the prices were pretty high for a walk-in lunch and there were a few interesting quirks which left us feeling like we weren’t actually at a Greek restaurant. By the time we left for lunch it was about $40 for two people. Recommendations: - Offer reasonable lunch pricing - Drop the complimentary garlic bread and serve pita bread - Use feta and Greek dressing on all Greek salads - Offer Souvlaki pitas with a side for lunch specials as an alternative to a full Souvlaki platter
For years I used to regularly go to Pilo's with my husband. We stopped going as the food and service were consistently going down hill. Yesterday, I decided to give them another try and do I ever regret it. The service was deplorable. Our waitress acted as though us being there was a burden. She was inattentive and we never ever got a single water refill throughout our entire meal even though she was going around and refilling other patrons water glasses (tables RIGHT beside us). The food was atrocious. The chicken filet had no flavour, the potatoes were dried out and had clearly been sitting for far too long, the salad was a joke! A few pieces of lettuce, with two tomato slices and one cucumber slice. No olives, no feta, and barely any dressing. The rice was the most edible part of the meal. Our meals of chicken, rice, potatoes, and salad didn't come with any tzatziki. When we inquired as to why there was no tzatziki we were informed it's an additional $2. Deciding that the food was inedible we agreed to the extra charge and finally got some tzatziki. It has to be the worst tzatziki I've ever tasted in my life. I could barely eat half of the container it was that bad. Save yourself the hassel and disappointment of eating here. If you're looking for good greek food with great service try the Greek Shack on Bank St. Now that's good greek food and fantastic service.
We ordered here tonight for the first time and I'm sorry to say it will be the last. We ordered dinner for 5 people, take out. When I picked up the girl was incredibly rude and I had to repeat myself 3 times before she even paid attention to me and then proceeded to roll her eyes at me. I wanted to add drinks and pita bread to our order and seeing as it was our first time and the choices weren't indicated on the online ordering website I thought I would order them in person. The kids meal I ordered my son was poorly packaged, funny how they made sure to separate the chicken added on to the greek salads we ordered but would pack fries, chicken and a salad all in the same plate, what a mess. The tzatziki sauce that was supposed to be included in the souvlaki plate was missing. The ingredients in the greek salads should also be specified on the online ordering website. It only includes tomatoes, a few onions and black olives and ZERO lettuce. You may as well call the dish tomatoes topped with cubed feta. Now this I understand can vary from restaurant to restaurant but is not necessarily a preferred option for someone who gets heartburn from too many tomatoes. Needless to say we aren't picky people and we like to try different places and typically we deal with maybe one mistake but the overall experience, especially service was lacking.
My husband and I love Greek food. We’ve been to Greece 3 times the last 10 years. We had the pork and chicken souvlaki with potatoes, rice and tomato salad, calamari, and recommended Greek wine. We found the entire meal tasteless. No wonder the restaurant is empty and you haven’t received an award since 2010. I don’t like posting this information online but there is no email on their website. Dear Restauranteur. You have a huge opportunity here. There are very few good Greek restaurants in Ottawa. Here is my recommendation. Get in your car, drive to Kingston and eat at Greco’s. We ate there in January and OMG, everything is delicious. I am still dreaming about their Greek potatoes that melted in your mouth (they are peeled btw), even the rice is good, and the souvlaki, yum, the tzatziki, wow, and the lamb shank, to die for. And their prices are better than yours. IF you copy everything they do you will be hugely successful.
My parents ate here years ago and did not enjoy their meal, but we thought we would try it since management has since changed and this is the only place I could find that serves Saganaki. I will be honest, I am not hard to please when it comes to food, but this was unfortunately the worst Greek food we ever had. It seems this restaurant goes big on "fillers", skimping on the good ingredients that cost more. Not even the Saganaki was good (it was mostly fried dough, more dough than cheese). The mousaka my mom had barely had any meat in it. The rice was old. My son didn't even like his fries (which kid does not like fries?). The only really good part of the meal was the garlic bread at the beginning - that was delicious! The salad that came with everything was good as well (although a more Greek salad with some Feta and olives would have been appreciated - but I guess Feta costs money). Very disappointing.
I feel like I got robbed and I'm still hungry. Average service, Below average food, very small portions! I got their chicken dinner souvlaki and wow was it ever small, it tasted average at best, but definitely not worth the $18 I just spent. Sace your money and go to The Greek Souvlaki House on Riverside! lol How does a Greek place mess up their primary souvlaki dish so bad? I've had better souvlaki in a mall cafeteria and larger portions and paid way less! They really need to increase portion size, update that old restaurant, and don't give your customers tiny peaces of chicken and charge top dollar. I also got two tiny peaces of bread that the waiter wouldn't refill, my water was empty after the bread and not once during my whole meal was it even filled. I won't be ever coming back here again. I wish I read the bad reviews on here first!
Pilos has been one of our staple restaurants in our family for the last 20 years. The dishes are always amazing and delicious, the staff is welcoming and makes you feel like you’re a part of a big family. Highly recommend this Greek restaurant to anyone in Ottawa, very authentic!

Terrible food. The Large salad is the size of what you get at a normal restaurant. It was not the way the waitress describe it. Seems like she was clueless of their products. The lettuce was not washed and tasted like dirt. I ordered a ceasar salad and there was no bacon, the dressing was bland, the croutons were stale and soggy and overall was lacking flavour. The service was poor as the waitress never offered me more water nor offered me a refill on my Pepsi. The washroom was dirty and had some mold in it. The dining room was not pleasant. The lighting was too low but I still managed to see the dust and spider webs. Overall it wasn’t a good place nor experience. I don’t recommend it. The chefs need more experience and they need to work on their cleanliness.
If you're looking for a great dining experience with authentic Greek culture, amazing food, and excellent service, then this restaurant is a must-visit. The salmon filet and shrimp brochettes are highly recommended, along with the deliciously seasoned and creamy Moussaka. The potatoes were also a standout, and the music added to the overall ambiance. However, there were some inconsistencies in the food, as the calamari and zucchini were undercooked and underwhelming. The dips could use some improvement as well. The atmosphere was decent but could use some updating. Despite the minor drawbacks, the hospitality of the server was exceptional and made for an enjoyable dining experience. Overall, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
One of my favourite high-school and college memories was going up the street to Pilo's for lunch with friends, it's an amazing Greek restaurant. They have been a family owned restaurant for 20 years, service up delicious greek food. I haven't been in years, and oh! how I've missed their food, always fresh ingredients, well seasoned and they make the best tzatziki sauce! Their meat is very flavourful, I almost wish I bought a 2nd Gyro Sandwich lol. I also ordered the chicken souvlaki plater, which comes with rice, potatoes, traditional Greek salad with feta and a side of tzatziki sauce. Everything was amazing. If you have never been, this is a must try! #supportlocal #ottawafoodiestalker
Pilos was incredible! Was doing a surprise Party for my mom and they let us do some little decorating at our table and accommodated our group. The food was incredible!!!!! I highly recommend this place to everyone.

Only reason I don't eat here more often is the pricing. Takeout is not reasonable either... Service can be slow on occasion when they only have 1 server on. But always courteous and typically get the order right. Just wish the tzatziki (which is garlic central) was cheaper. Would get it more often for takeout. Eat here earlier rather than later as clientele are early birds so you can feel rushed if you come by late... As they can be eager to close up... Not always the case though. Never had a bad chicken skewer here. Wish the potatoes were smaller as they taste great... Bite size would be awesome.
Amazing food, even better service. What a lovely evening with my family and kids - thank you! Will be back.

Kid-friendliness
Lots of kid friendly options both food and drink. The host was lovely and accommodating to both adults and children alike.
Finally visited after years of living nearby and intending to try the place, and I was completely satisfied. The ambience was old-school dignity (dim lighting and candles in jars and such) with service to match: a soft-spoken and reserved older gentleman who was very nice. The portions were satisfactorily large, though not excessive. I thought the pork souvlaki was very good indeed, though I also tasted the gyros and the chicken souvlaki of my companions and found them a bit humdrum. Pilos may not have made my top ten, but I won't hesitate to return.
My family adores this place. Chomping down every slouvaki chicken the kitchen produce. The wait staff is fantastic and have all the patience in the world. I ain't ever been to greece but i imagine it feels the way this place smells.

I truly don't understand where all these great reviews came from. The waitress seemed annoyed we were even there, didnt accommodate for my two year old, at all (had to ask for a booster, no straw for his water, no small plate or smaller cutlery for him). She down right rude. The food came with no tzatziki (extra 2 dollars), no feta or olives in the "greek" salad and chicken was dry. I could make better Greek at home. Maybe I should start a business of my own!! Unlimited tzatziki!! Next time, I'll holla at my boy, Jimmy! ✌
The filet brochette was good. The calamari were under done and the zucchini were under whelming. I am not sure about the zucchini dip or the calamari dip. I would encourage a new recipe for those. The atmosphere is alright but it could use a revamp. I may try this place again at some point but it will need to be because I am attending a outing with friends. Service was great though.

We had our office Christmas lunch at Pilos and I don’t plan on returning. The service was hurried which took away from our enjoyment of being there together. I ordered the chicken slouvaki and while the chicken was moist, the sliced tomatoes which filled the plate were flavourless. The Greek cheese was also pretty bland and the portion size small. It was a disappointing eating experience, more so because we were there to share some Christmas cheer while sharing what we thought would be tasty Greek food.
We came here due to Google map review as this restaurant has a high rating and it's really good. The atmosphere is comfortable and it can accommodate a large group of people. It's very Greek-like. The potatoes on the side is very good and not too salty, which is very surprising to me. I would expect everything to be quite salty but not really. The food is very nice and very kid-friendly. Highly recommended the place.

Used to eat there every week or so from the day they opened. Tried returning after moving away for several years but was so disappointed by the staff and atmosphere. Staff was indifferent. She kept speaking French to us and brought me a glass of red wine when ordered chardonnay. We ate quickly and left.

Second visit was disappointing. While the food was definitely up to par, the waitress wasn't. She took our orders bluntly, threw the food on our table, and never returned. We had to call over another waitress, who recognized us from our first visit six months earlier, to get more water. We even waited a long time for our bill. The dining room wasn't overly busy. Needless to say the waitress' attitude ruined a dinner amongst friends, and put into question as to whether we'd return.
We went there for work. Table of 5. Service was quick and food was good. Unfortunately there is an unpleasant smell and some cleaning really needs to be done especially on the ceiling close to the ventilation diffusers. Service was ok but nothing great. Food was good. The team seemed to enjoy it and prices are a little high.

This wasn't a Greek food at all ! Mediocre crevice, under- and over cooked food. We ordered chicken souvlaki, broiled rainbow trout , soup and dolmades. We could eat only soup and dolmades. Fish was burnt, rice was cold, bulky oily deep fried potatoes ....(((((( completely disappointed. Waiters even didn't ask why we gave back fish((( If you want to try a really delicious Greek food, this is not the place you'll do it.
White bread greek food. The place was packed. The mussels were delicious, then came a serously over priced lamb brochette. 2 dollars extra for tsaziki. Seriously, the 30 dollar plate, with undercooked potatoes, bland rice and flavorless salad didn't include tsaziki. They couldnt figure how to make a vodka soda Had to return it. So disappointed. 120 dollars for 2 completely wasted. Paper place mats....I mean c'mon...
Amazing food, great wait staff, nice atmosphere! I had the chicken souvlaki with rice, Greek potatoes, and a tomato salad. The meal was perfectly done and a huge portion. Too much for one sitting for me. The waitress was attentive but not intrusive. The house white wine was good. Lastly, the bathrooms were super clean but honestly, freezing cold. It was a shock to sit down. All in all a wonderful experience.
Our food was good but not exceptional. The salad was very fresh. The avgolemono soup was not what I expected but was very tasty. I had their moussaka which was good. My wife had the grilled octopus appetizer but she much prefers the Portuguese style. Service was good.

Good Greek food. Just the right amount of food to fill you up. Service is fairly quick and the quality of the food is good. Not the most selection but it's sufficient. Would come again. Price is decent as well. A solid 4/5. Only things that help to make it 5/5 would be a more organized and friendlier service and staff. They seem a little understaffed at lunch time. But that's understandable.
Ordered the salmon and CRAB LEGS and was served salmon and scampi. I was told they couldn’t get crab legs from the market..?? This should have been communicated to me after I ordered and not after I was served. No reduction in my meal price nor an apology. This restaurant was great pre-pandemic—we had been going here for years. Unfortunate to say that tonight will be the last time.
Waiter was clueless about most items on the menu. Musaka was a tasteless any WAY over priced, potatos seemed like the chef did the same as the Musaka and left his taste buds at home as they were also bland. My kids ate there complete meal WITHOUT the multiple times requested water. Saganaki got very poor presentation with a near invisible flame and oh ya, tasteless. NEVER AGAIN...

Our server Ray was beyond polite, the menu had so many amazing options, I grabbed the salmon filet and my sisters had the shrimp brochettes and the potatoes alone were sooo delicious. The restaurant was very authentic to Greek culture, the music was beautiful, and the hospitality of our server was phenomenal. Definitely will be coming back for the amazing food and service.
The food is not delicious , my husband he was ordered the food to much oil and butter no taste...i don't want ordered again very disappointing, ...2 moussaka, 1 calamari, 1 spanakopita, 1chicken finger and fries, the fries over cooked,,chicken finger to much floor is not crispy.very bad recipe, I'm so sorry I'm wasted my money this restaurant.

Went there for my mother’s 60th birthday, we were a party of 10. Staff was very kind and helpful, they let us come a bit earlier so that we could decorate the table. Service was very quick and prompt. We had two young children, one in a high chair( which they had on site) and were accommodating to our larger family group. Food was good!

What a treat! I loved the food. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who swore it's his favorite Greek food joint. It didn't disappoint! I took off one star as the waitress rushed us all night to order and then to leave which was a bit annoying. Would definitely give this another chance and hopefully get better service .
Just found out that they are doing take-out from 4pm - 8pm … Please support this great restaurant … the food is amazing … been going there for over 20 years and saw the changes throughout the years and the new management is doing a great job, so please encourage them by ordering your favorite meal. The tzatziki is to die for.
Just ordered from Pilos through Skip the dishes, chicken skewers didn't even come on the skewer, they were thrown in a tin sitting in a puddle of oil. Potatoes are burnt, gyro is extremely oily. Greek "salad" is a ton of chopped tomatoes and onions, 1 olive, some dried seasoning and again a ton more oil. Super disappointing.
The service was great, the food was okay nothing spectacular but it was cooked well a bit on the expensive side though for what it was worth .

A ray of sunshine indeed.Thank you For an amazing experience. A ray of sunshine in restaurant businesses... Pilos rocks....
My family visits Pilos frequently. By far the best Greek food I have had in Ottawa. I cannot complain about anything that is included in their chicken souvlaki platters. Nice, garlicky tzatziki, yummy potatoes & rice and the chicken is always cooked to perfection. The management changed and the food is delicious again!

Food is okay but ice had better calamari before. The chicken souvlaki is excellent The lettuce was a little tired. Food was average but the waitress made 7s feel welcomed and answered all our questions and I reacted with us which was nice. Nb: the backlava was not worth the $5.
Last tuesday Nov 2 we had a 14 cousin toguether at PILOS and every ones very very satisfied with food service and our table setting I was there many time before its the reason I pick Pilos for our lunch date One came from Gatineau One from Montreal and one from Kingston Carmen
Wow, haven't eaten at Pilos in a while - shame on me! Was in the area today and stopped by. The food is even better than I remember. Generous portions of delicious Greek food - fresh, juicy, crisp salads and mouthwatering tzatziki sauce. I am already planning my next visit!!!
Worse Greek food ever, noting authentic. Salad didn't come with feta cheese or olives. Never got sauce for potatoes, rice and chicken. Tzatziki was never given.. Payed 55$ for 2 meal that I can get better at Greek on wheels for half the price. Very disappointed!
Classic Greek food, healthy servings, good service. We almost always have the Souvlaki (my wife orders chicken and I order pork) and we haven't been disappointed. It can get pretty crowded and even sometimes feels a little cramped but that is part of the charm.
Don't be fooled by the plate size, you will not leave this place on an empty stomach. The food was great, the staff friendly, and the ambience nice and cozy. It's a little pricy but definitely worth a shot! You'd be hard pressed to find better in the region!
Last time I went was about a year and a half ago. I'm not sure of the place is under new management, but at the time I went, the servings were small, for the price. Also, we are greek and the manager lied to us about being greek. Very, very bad business.
Whow, having lived in Ottawa all these year and went there for lunch with co-workers. the lunch was great and very taste. Well pried, service and staff were great and quick to make the lunch menu work for everyone. Stop in, you will not be disappointed

Absolutely horrible. These shawarmas weren't even complete. Thrown together random bits not even wrapped! Will never come back. Girl at front was more worried about her phone conversation that the customers in front of her. Do not reccomend at all.

My friend and I went for lunch and it was excellent. She had the fillet of sole and I had the pork slouvaki. Tasty and big portions! We will be back in the future!

Very good Picadelia(sp) for two. I had a Calamari Plate and it was delicious! Melt in your mouth delicious! The wait staff is very friendly and informative. The restaurant itself is very clean as well as the washrooms. I will be back.
perfect greek food and kind serving. I really enjoyed the meal. Beef, pork and chicken all satisfying.

Straight ahead, well made food with friendly staff. The souvlaki was fantastic, and the tzatziki was exactly how I like it: mega-garlicy. The dessert did not hold up, but I got cake, not the baklava like my friend, so that's on me.
It's not a fancy ambiance, but the food was good and the staff was very friendly.

Excellent as always. We've been going to Pilo's since the early 1980's and it never disappoints.

Pilos has always been good, but the food we had yesterday was even better than usual. The Kolokethia, spanokopita, moussaka, chicken filet, even the bread were extra delicious. Next time, though, we'll ask for more tzatziki!
Disappointed with the lamb souflaki. It looked, smelled and tasted like beef. The waitress refused to accept my observation and continued to tell me it was lamb. It was tasty, but it lacked how lamb looks, cuts and tastes.
Rice didn't taste great in my opinion. Ordered medium rare and the filet came back very rare in the middle. Food was served fast but waitress did not check on how the food was until the very end. I did enjoy the potatoes.
Excellent meal, service was awesome!!

Love this restaurant but every time we order takeout we have to throw out the salad. It looks like they make the salads a week in advance the the lettuce rott’s in the closed container. Wish I had taken a picture.
After a few years of not as stellar service, one of my favorite restaurants is back to it's glory. Amazing food and great staff. My family loves this place. Large portions, amazing tzatziki, and delicious gyros
Very good menu, very good food, very good service and reasonably priced. The only thing I would say is the parking, but it all depends I guess on which day of the week you go and the time. I do recommend them.
I adore coming to Pilos. The food is simply amazing, i ordered a salmon on a bed of ride as it was exquisite. I recommend, if you are planning to visit Pilo's reserve your seating a day or two in advance.
Fully enjoyed our dinner at Pilos this evening. Everything was cooked perfectly. Wonderful family run place and they take great pride in their service and very attentive like you are at home …
The food was amazing! The perfect portion. But the 5 stars definitely go to Ray. She had extreme restaurant etiquette and everyone at the table loved her. Definitely will be coming back just for her
My family and I have been going there for years. The food is good! Better in person than take out for some reason, delicious for sure!

Food was worse than in a mall food court. Prices advertised on website do not apply got charged $21 for smth that is $16 on the menu. Apparently takeout is more expensive? Weird place.
This is my favourite Greek restaurant anywhere. I come from Montreal just to go to this restaurant, I'm not even joking. Their souvlaki is fantastic. Highly recommend coming here.
Great service. Food was only mediocre for Greek food. They have all the dishes you would expect them to have, but when you veer off from the souvlaki, the quality goes down hill.
Definitely doesn’t deserve the rating they have. No tzatziki sauce was provided with chicken brochette platter. Rice tasted as if it wasn’t cooked won’t be eating here again.
A little bit pricey but they give big portions and the food is really good. Service was great.

Used to be my favorite place to dine, but has really gone down hill. The food isn't as good. Potatoes where hard, chicken was dry, and overall flavourful wasn't the same.
Delicious Moussaka, very creamy and well seasoned, and a surprisingly large proportion size for a luncheon special.

One of my absolute favourite restaurants. Love the fact that it 's not a big chain restaurant. Prices are fair and atmosphere was great for my business dinner
The food was excellent the chicken was extremely tender when I ordered the pita lunch sandwich special!

Our family loves Pilos' takeout. We even expanded from chicken souvlaki to brochette to pork to gyros. Kids love the rice and adults love the greek salad.
