This park used to be a hot mess; it was riddled with unsavory and unsheltered persons always asking for things...sometimes the food you were eating. The smell of Crack and Spice was sometimes so heavy I'd often get sick and headaches just passing through the area. It was so bad that I stopped going to the park for several years. There was talk of renovating the park but I chaled that up to political ca-ca. Years later, I am very happy to report that Pioneer Park is a clean, safe and dog friendly park. On Saturday mornings there's an absolutely incredible farmer's market and during the appropriate seasons, there are sporting events and doggy socials galore. It's nestled in downtown and a real treat...well worth checking out.
Stopped here for the Downtown Farmers Market. Awesome location. Shadey. Plenty of vendors to make anyone happy. Baked goods, fruit, veggies, jewelry, clothing, pet items, art. Great variety. There were food vendors in the center of the market with plenty of seating in the shade. Great food too! Took us about 2 hours to complete the walk. I was in a wheelchair and got stuck in the gravel, but there were great people willing to help me out. Parking was a bit of a Hassel. Not a lot of close lots or spots. Limited hours, as they close by 3pm. Sorry, not sure of start time. Oh, and there's a bark park on the grounds, so don't leave Spot at home. Great market, and large too. Can't 2ait to ho back for the cherry almond bear claws!
I have been wanting to check out several dog parks to find one to frequent with my dog. I looked at reviews and saw that people apparently have a big problem with people experiencing homelessness and addiction in this area. Where else are people with no where else to go during the day supposed to exist in public without spending money? There is very little compassion in a lot of these reviews. You'll see a few people resting or hanging out in a group, but that's the extent of it. No one bothered me for anything while I've been there. I give it 4 stars because of the size, it could get crowded fast but on slow days it's great.
A good Park in down town. But a lot of homeless people will be there. There will be bad smell emanating at some places. Definitely not a good place to spend some time or go for a walk. It is better to avoid this place. You can visit the place only when there is a Farmers' market organized in the place. At that time, the place will be full up to the brim with several people both onlookers and shoppers and you can spend some time strolling and watching different people and different things put up for sale in the market.
The farmers market is super fun here. I actually did a service project picking up trash at the same time and I loved talking to people and helping them out. Sole vendors at the end were just giving away food. Probably because they saw me and my friends picking up trash the whole time. The park is big enough to go sit in the shade under some trees. They have enough seating in the food truck area. They have water stations at the corners of the park, and trash is also at the corners and near the food truck seating.
I did not feel safe here as a 6', 200 lb. man...Thought the other posts were exaggerating but if anything, they are being generous. I could have lived with the drug deal going on in front of me for the sake of having a nearby place to run my dogs while visiting beautiful SLC but the beer cans and garbage (including human food sprayed all over the ground inside the dog park) was the last straw...My plan now is to drive the dogs to one of the many beautiful and safe other dog parks downtown
We were here for the Farmers' Market. Park itself is on the sketchy side of mediocre, although the market event was great. The farmers market is a 5 star event, if there's a way to rate it separately. We spent way more than originally planned just because the quality & variety of goods brought in for this was amazing! But you don't want to visit this park when there is not an event going on. Piles of human poop on/around at least 4 of the trees we walked past; lots of panhandlers; etc.
Scary! Infamous for drugs and crime. However, on Tuesday evenings, and Saturdays, there is the Farmers Market. This is a fun way to spend some time at the park in a somewhat more controlled setting. I would NEVER venture into Pioneer Park any other time. It's just not safe. The FM is awesome. Local produce, crafts, home goods, plants, jewelry, and lots of delicious food. Great place for family and dogs! Just be mindful and use good judgment. I've not ever had a problem while at the FM
This used to be pretty scary park. But they have since install the cameras and a heavy police presence has kind of giving it a new life. There are still homeless I'm sure there are still drugs but I didn't feel like my life was in danger walking around looking for a friend.
Playground
I because I don't have kids I didn't go and look at the playground itself but it looked fairly new, clean from a distance.
Dog-friendliness
Fido welcome, Leash required.
Great farmer market folk. Every vendor is original and creative in their own ways. There are so many selections here to choose from. You can easily stay here for the whole morning. There are a few vendors that caught my attention. One is butterfly vendor, second one an organic peach vendor (long line up) and lastly a craftsman that make awesome wood bowl (sign says his wife, the boss, is ordering him not to make anymore until he sells them all. So let's help him.
Good spot for a quick run if you're in the downtown area. Gravel perimeter is just a little under 0.5 mi. If you use the sidewalk on the outside perimeter (bordering the streets) then you'll be a little over 0.5 mi. There are some urban campers there in the morning, so if that bothers you then you may want to find another spot. It's very open and public though, so you're always visible to people passing by on the streets.
The Saturday Farmers market spans the perimeter of the park. Crafts, baked goods, misc stuff, vegetables and local meats. Get there early 0800-1100 for the best of the vegetables, meats and bakery items. For crafts, art and other items you can show up until closing time (2pm). It may take a minute or 10 to find parking and you will most likely be walking to the park. Bring cash or your phone to pay for parking
Most fun during the farmers' market and craft fair Saturday's or during the twilight concert series but it's nice other days. The restrooms aren't great. The off leash dog area is small but functional. The playground was much enjoyed by my boys when they were smaller. And lots of great places to get lunch on three different sides of the park. The crime isn't what it was a decade ago. Very well patrolled.
Great location for summer farmers markets. We thought it had a great layout with the market stalls around the periphery and food stalls/trucks in the middle. It also has a nice off lease dog area with partial shade. Currently, the park is under construction-I believe they are adding a couple of baseball diamonds. As others have mentioned, homeless people do hang out here often
Great park! We go to the farmers market most Saturday mornings, and it is great! So many local shops and farmers present, it’s a great time! Don’t love the dog park here, my dogs don’t like the bark covering for the ground, and there are quite a few people experiencing homelessness in the park, but other than that, there is great shade and fun things to do there in the summer!
I do enjoy going to the Farmer's Market here on Saturday, but I wouldn't go to this park otherwise. This park is rampant with drugs and crime. It's not a place for a nice stroll with your family. The park is currently under construction to address those safety concerns, however. Stay for the Farmer's market, but I'd wait to see how the park is improved before venturing here.
Could be a lovely park but the homeless population makes it feel uncomfortable and unsafe to me. The only time that I like to visit Pioneer Park is for the farmer's market. It's the largest that I've been to in Salt Lake and has a great selection of quality foods. It's only getting busier as the years go on though so plan extra time to find parking if you go to the market!
Confusing parking, one sign says park this side of sign another says don't park between 6&4. Nothing says what's designated for farmers market event. Now I'm faced with 45$ ticket I have to fight? 45$ really? Extremely excessive! SLC needs to be more transparent, define their signs, and not create traps for their residents or others!Needless to say we are not happy.
Every Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in summer and fall is the Salt lake City Farmers market at pioneer Park. The fruits and vegetables are fresh, delicious and outstanding. All of the other vendors selling their wares are wonderful people, and I enjoy buying fresh food and giving these people my hard-earned cash. It is well worth the visit!
Went to the Saturday farmers market and had a fantastic experience. The way the booths were organized allowed for comfortable social distancing and better use of space. I really like the way they filled in the internal area of the park with more booths rather than cramming them all around the edges of the park. It was a great experience.
When you go to this park it does look a little bad with all the homeless folks but they are working on that and they are working on a lot of the park. There is a farmers market a couple times a week and they are trying to make the area feel more safer. Come see the farmers market and check out the atmosphere it’s much different, better
This park is currently a place where a lot of homeless people hang out so it makes me nervous to go there with my kids. The park looks fun but we've never played there. The city is in the process of revitalizing it so we'll see what that brings. The saving grace of Pioneer Park is the weekly farmers market held there. It's fantastic.
Pretty gross smells like urine, there are homeless people everywhere. Sleeping on the playground etc. This was probably our last farmers market there of we go again we'll leave our kids home so we don't worry about them picking up drug paraphernalia. I gave it a 2 because location is nice and the park is large with lots of trees.
Very Nice park with a high homeless population living inside of it. If you feel like bringing food or other living essentials to the homeless in Salt Lake City then I would definitely recommend this place. We broight some burritos and such down here and there were over fifteen people that we're able to help within five minutes.
This park has a lot of potential. Playground, walking track, tennis and volleyball courts, nice big trees and open space, and great views of downtown. However, it isn't in the best neighborhood... for example, we couldn't use the whole playground because there was a homeless man sleeping on it and wouldn't move.
The Downtown Salt Lake City Farmer’s Market offers unique and fresh options. I was able to find a bakery that makes vegan and gluten free cakes for my child with food allergies and was able to sample fresh local breads, cheese and fruits! I especially loved the food trucks available to grab coffee and food.
Beautiful park overall. I went here for the past two Saturdays for their farmers market and it's amazing. The only problem is that my wallet hates when I go! I will definitely be back both to the farmers market and to the park in general just to walk around there and get my excersize in …
Visited during the Farmers Market, it was fun and we found parking for $5 at the Western Nut Company parking lot / they allow 2 hours of parking, plenty of time to go around the Farmers market, we did not hurry, and still had time left on the “meter” (non metered parking ) only a parked attendant :)
Beautiful park right downtown. There are events almost every weekend during the summer including a weekly farmers market. I don't usually visit this park if there isn't an event because unless there is a community event the homeless people fill the park to near capacity napping or just hanging out.
We went here for the Saturday Farmers Market. There are lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and bakery items on sale here. There are many ethnic food stands with great foods. We really like all of the arts & crafts vendors as well. Great place to go on Saturday! They are only open until 2:00 PM.
I was with my husband otherwise I would have gotten back in my car and left. It felt a bit unsafe even during daylight hours. It did have a nice fenced in area for the dogs but lots of homeless in the area and a lot of shouting and even throwing things happened in the 20 minutes we were there
Love this park! Super fun farmers market. Fairly clean. There are a lot of homeless people, but that doesn’t bother me! Check out these kittens that were up for adoption at the farmers market! look closely and you’ll see there are FIVE of them in that cute cuddle puddle!! …
Love the mature trees that give off so much shade. Nice sidewalk paths all around and through. Grassy picnicking areas plentiful. Big park, didn't see it all! Love the farmers market when that's going on. There's a little fenced off part for dogs too! Don't remember seeing potties...
This is a great park for the farmer's market because it's large and shady. However, I would not come here randomly because I don't like the large chain link fence in the middle of the park. It's not very landscaped. You won't see flowers, but they do have a playground.
Great park location. The farmers market had a variety of vendors and food options. We had a fantastic almond croissant and morning bun from Tulie Bakery. Parking is hard to find. I'd suggest taking public transportation or parking near some bike or scooter rentals.
I drove out of my way to make a special stop here because of the reviews, and it's just not worth it. The food was extremely expensive, and what I would expect from anyplace that specializes in burgers. Besides the orange slices shake, they have nothing on 5 guys.
The Farmer's Market is one of my favorite things on the planet! Great ambiance and amazing products! Get there early if you're looking for something specific, especially from local bakers and artisans. Our favorites are apple cider slushies and fresh baked goods!
It's amazing to see the difference in this park and the surroundig areas as a whole, compared to 2015/2016. They have done such an amazing job cleaning it up and maintaining it. There is a farmers market on the weekends that almost spans the whole park.
A great farmer's market that is finally back in full swing. Farm items on one side and crafts on the other. Finger food in the middle. Bring a large bag for your purchases and and an appetite for all the yummy things. I highly recommend the empanadas!!
Pioneer park has an awesome summer farmers market. Nothing like enjoying the morning at the farmers market, grabbing a kombucha and some sugar peas from a local vendor and then winding down with a sandwich over at Caputos for lunch. A solid Saturday.
Love coming here for the dog park, the semi-regular events and the farmers market! A great park with bikes and scooters all around, right in the middle of downtown. Good place to stop and rest, or meet for some volleyball, soccer or other sports
Stayed at the Hampton Inn across the street saw the Farmers Market they had lots of different fruits , veggies, food ,unique items friendly people and lots of local vendors .Very nice market, bought a beautiful one of a kind leather bag. …
Fun little farmers market on Saturday morning. Nicely spread out mostly around the perimeter of the park. Nice arts and crafts with scrumptious looking produce throughout. Only seen one homeless fella yelling at the ether. Would visit again.
Love the Downtown Farmers Market on Saturday mornings! It’s one of our favorite summertime activities! We watched little kids enjoy chasing giant bubbles! That’s just one of the many things you can experience at the Farmers Market
Great farmers market June-September. 8am-1PM. ALL OTHER DAYS AND TIMES: An incredible place to go if you want to feel like the only survivor in a zombie apocalypse. Why do I feel safer in ANY park in New York City or Los Angeles?
This park is fine during Saturday morning farmers markets. But not a good park to bring kids otherwise. Unfortunately addicts like to hang at this park. The city has really cleaned it up but still needles and screaming zombies.
Nice park in the downtown area. They have a Farmers' Market on Saturdays that could be fun for many visitors. There are restaurants around the park with good food. The park itself has playgrounds and other areas to play sports.
nice park with some delicious food trucks, and a small fenced in dog park. we noticed a lot of homeless people.
Dog-friendliness
theres a fenced in dog park, but also dogs playing fetch off leash. very dog friendly
Went to the Farmers market again, locals selling their wares and addition to selling fruits and vegetables. We bought a bunch of veggies and fruits as well as berries and bread. In additon to that we bought a ton of corn
Nice park, love their Saturday market. Too bad the park is so close to groups of homeless and drug using people. Hopefully the city will work on housing, counseling, rehab and other social services for them.
A fantastic outdoor space that offers a little something for everyone. Its central location, beautiful green spaces, sports facilities, and vibrant community atmosphere make it a must-visit destination.
The park is big enough. Beautiful rainbow over the park in July ‘22. After dark: not safe. Daytime: mostly safe. There are ALWAYS Teslas using the charger. Once one leaves, one appears in its place.
We had a great time at the Saturday farmers market! So many awesome offerings. VERY dog friendly. Dogs were everywhere, and a lot of booths had water out for the dogs, which was great on a hot day.
The scally wagon in front of pioneer park was fun. This was during the classic car show. Park is alright, small for a city park. But nice place to sit. During seasonal festivities, it's nice here.
The farmers market here and the twilight concert series are awesome super great events.... however the homeless and druggies make this a place I'd never hang out if there is not an event going on
Pioneer Park it's a nice park with a good commercial environment to support it. the area is making a comeback. I'll come back again I think that it might be a popular park for everyone.
They’ve really cleaned up this park. I still get nervous to find needles and other things in the grass so I always check before sitting down to play. But that’s good habit everywhere.
I go here for the Downtown Farmers market which usually has nice variety and good selections. The playground is old and could definitely use an update and parking can be difficult.
Plenty of shade for the very busy Saturday Farmer’s market. Due to the large crowds not many sellers offer samples even if requested. Get there early if you like to park close.
It is a peaceful place for me to relax and center myself. It is nowhere near as "rachety" as in days past, and so far, each time I go, I am left in peace so that's a plus.
Lovely park. We watched twilight concerts here. It is very big and put together quite well. I loved the trees here and it was big enough for a stage and food trucks etc
Such a fun place to visit! The dome that you can stand on edges and whisper and still hear each other is so fun. Our kids really love to visit last time we were there.
It’s a pretty neighborhood but it always has trash everywhere and that’s sorta gross. The farmer’s market is awesome though. One of my favorite things to do in SLC
Everything from Cherry concentrate, hot sauce, jewelry, honey, bread, fresh veggies, candles, pottery, food, to dog collars...loved Saturday at the Market.
Nice park and home to the SLC Farmers market in the summer. Usually has unhoused persons during the day which might make some people uncomfortable/unsafe.
It was a nice area and some of the surrounding eateries smelled behind heavenly! My son and I had a lot of fun walking around playing Pokémon Go! …
Beautiful park. Farmers market on Saturdays is really great. There is a man that does HAND CARVED rings for FIVE bucks. He is REALLY REALLY TALENTED!!!
On the first and 3 Sunday is the pet pantry. Farmer's Market is back on full swing I. Saturdays. Have a dog park. Playground for kids. Clean park.
My wife and I loved walking around the park for the Farmers market. They have great deals and selection on the produce. Plus great food trucks.
Once a horrible drug problem, it has gotten much better. Police are a common occurrence, but it's a nice place to walk and exercise your pet.
I most often go to pioneer park during the farmers market. They made some updates a few years ago and are planning some more in the future.
This location hosts the IFSC World Championships in bouldering and speed climbing. They also have a nice fenced in area for dogs.
Very nice park but way too many homeless people asking for help. SLC needs to find a better solution for the homeless problem.
Very good Farmer's Market. Bought exotic mushrooms, chard, eggs, watermelon and basil. Very relaxed and happy atmosphere.
It's close to me and dog friendly. The Farmers Market is fabulous. They don't have benches though. No place to rest.
Fantastic park. Tall leafy trees and wide paths. Tasty food and bev nearby. Not many cozy places to sit.
Kind of sketchy park but the sidewalk around it is nice if you're up for a walk around the sketchy park
Big and nice green areas to enjoy a good weather day. They have an area for dogs and a walk road.
Went for Farmers market 2023. It's almost done for the year. Great food, fresh meats and produce.
Saturday morning farmers market Amazing selection of pastries, crafts, and veggies!!! …
I work with the homeless. This is a great place to bring food for them and share stories
Free Chargepoint chargers however there is a 2 hour limit and the chargers are slow.
Great place for some weekend fun when they have farmers market and food trucks out.
It's wonderful to see a farmers market, where farmers are seeking their produce!
Love the farmers market here in the summers on Saturday mornings …
we did a giveaway for the homeless. If you are blessed you should give back
Enjoyed the Farmer's Market at Pioneer Park. Lots to see, sample, and buy.
Farmers Market on Saturday mornings is my favorite summer activity.
It's a nice park that would be nicer if it wasn't full of junkies
Dog park area needs to be wheelchair accessible, !
Great park! Felt safe like half the time
Great farmers market and dog park!
