If you enjoy learning the history of Portland, Oregon, come here. What I love about Portland is regardless of the homelessness and drug use, that there is a sense of community connection. At one point back in the day, a man and a society of people wanted to make Portland a bustling city. The Pittock family has a rich and vivid backstory and you would never have guessed that Mr. Pittock was the publisher of The Oregonian newspaper. The family had such a passion for architecture, agriculture, nature, and art of all aspects…I think you should come check this place out if you have some time to yourself, you will find yourself being immersed in its substantial antiquity.

Was told by a local to check out the views from here, and the weather happened to be very nice, so we took the short drive to visit and were very happy we did. You can just enjoy the views from outside the mansion, which are definitely worth the trip and you only pay for parking, but we decided to check out the inside as well on their self-guided tour (I think was around $15/person). It was definitely worth it as we both enjoyed seeing the inside rooms and reading the information about the house on this self-paced tour. Also, some of the views out of the windows were just amazing.

Absolutely gorgeous inside and out! So beautifully restored and decorated, set in a picturesque landscape overlooking the city. Well worth the cost of admission (plus parking). We were there in mid November, no line, no waiting, self guided tour. It took my husband and I a little over 2 hours to see everything inside and out. I wish we had gotten to see it decorated for Christmas, but it was fabulous on its own! Many pieces from the Pittock family are in the home. It was nice and warm inside, which was a pleasant surprise for us, being from AZ.

We loved our time here. We did-not do the mansion tour as it was closed on Sundays, but it costs around 15$ per person. Parking is around 2$ per hour. We wandered around the mansion and then went to the viewpoint which was amazing. The best view of Portland in my opinion. There are a few benches bear the viewpoint to sit and have a meal while enjoying the view. The flowers around the mansion was pretty as well. There are trails in this area as well if youre into that.

This was a nice place to get a great view of Portland. With it being only about a 10 minute drive from downtown, you really get a feel for just how mountainous this city is. Parking is cheap and unless you are going to tour the mansion or do some hiking around the grounds, 1 hour is plenty to take in the landscape and views. There are many beautiful flowers and plats around the mansion and the trails looked very nice as well.

Lovely mansion with a great deal of Portland history, dating from the early 1900s. Good for first-time visitors as well as homeschoolers. You can drive or hike there from a local park. Great view of the city and Mt. Hood. Seems like they have special, temporary exhibits on the lower level.

Possibly the best place to get a really amazing photo of Portland. Especially with the cityscape and Mount Hood in the background. Mount Hood is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc. So when taking a picture, who knows, you might just catch it erupt. Doubtful, though. Pretty winding road to get up there, and the parking lot is not vast. But the view is worth it!

  • Eddy Ruzga

We hiked up to the mansion. It was an easy hike with a good amount of switch backs. Once we got to the mansion we were lucky to see an amazing view of city and mountain as the background. We were fortunate to see everything on a clear sunny day. Would definitely recommend for an easy half day trip.

Beautiful historic mansion & grounds. Guides are unobtrusive but there to answer questions & add to your experience. Original elevator provides ADA access to all floors open to public & accessible entrance is the loop the public uses to tour the grounds & exit but isn't short so recommend party all use the same entrance or there will be a wait. Beautiful views of downtown Portland.

Always nice to visit. I don't like paying for parking but it is what it is. The property is always well maintained and I appreciate that. The road is very narrow on the way up and back, I'm surprised busses and limousines make it up there. Great place for photos around the property. Thank you and we will be back soon.

Nice place to visit to get a cool view of the city. The sky wasn't too clear when we went, so something to keep in mind for the view with the lookout point, which is the main attraction here. Didn't go inside the mansion.

The viewpoint is free but to tour inside, you will have to buy tickets. It's a very beautiful walk around the mansion. The viewpoint can see Portland city and Mt. Hood on a nice clear day! We went when it was cloudy and we were able to see everything!

A wonderful viewpoint over Portland with the beautiful Pittock Mansion in the background. We were here mid rainstorm and as you can see still got a pretty good view despite the rain. Worth the short drive!

It is a wonderful piece of history. Well preserved and restored. It has placards with descriptions of what time in history you are looking at as well as descriptions of who lived in each room.

Unfortunately when we went it was hazy and overcast. But the view was still nice. Great afternoon outing. But the road up was terrible. Narrow, no lane striping, no curbs, not well maintained.

Absolutely disgusting you can see the 1 million homeless camps from this view point, and even on the property. I visited on a trip recently to see the famous Mt hood sitting behind Portland. But what happened on the property was sad, and disgusting.

Mainly stopped at the mansion just for the viewpoint and it was worth it. Lots of nice trails right around the mansion as well.

Beautiful historic mansion with a peculiar past and overall mysterious reason for its existence. Neat way to learn more about the history of Portland. I would certainty again. Definitely worth the visit if in the Portland area.

What a fun little location just outside of the city! A beautiful house and a great bit of information regarding the history of the area. If you're looking for something to do, definitely stop by. My family loved this place.

It was a historical building and expected to see the originality. But, the Christmas decoration at every single room obstructed all the historical features and it was a disappointing experience.
