"Happy new year to all, what a wonderful atmosphere last night, we got there with the intention of viewing the midnight fireworks in Melbourne city, we had a great family time, until the ethnic families arrived with their massive Persian rugs taking over every available space encroaching on everyone’s space including ours off course, they simply did not care about anyone else around them about taking such a massive amount of space, mind you majority of people stored their belongings on their own picnic footprints, but no these people ! They took so much space that my partner suggested we should create a bit more space between or group & those people, however more people from their group arrived & placed their folding chairs over our picnic rug not to mention stepping all over our rug, seriously these people have no consideration for anyone else around them, I’m simply disgusted with their behaviour, I lost any respect I had for these people"

The Point Ormond Lookout is a picturesque spot that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Located in Elwood, this lookout provides a panoramic vista of Port Phillip Bay, the Melbourne skyline, and the beautiful coastline. It's a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, with its tranquil atmosphere and stunning sunsets. Whether you're looking to take in the natural beauty, enjoy a leisurely walk along the nearby beach, or simply unwind and appreciate the view, Point Ormond Lookout is a must-visit location for anyone exploring Melbourne. I highly recommend visiting Point Ormond Lookout, especially to witness its breathtaking sunsets.
Point Ormond lookout —— Beautiful sea near Melbourne which is st. Kilda, very easy to travel, can be reached by tram and bus, only 30 minutes from the city, when you arrive you will find an amusement park, a beach. Most people like to watch the sunset and take a picnic here. By sitting and watching the sun at Point Ormond Lookout This is a small hill that we can see the city as well. The clear water and the sky stretch as far as the eyes. Around the beach, there is a way for running, exercising and cycling. There is a garden and playground as well.

Great lookout to city skyline in any weather! Watch the frothy, black sea swells under a threatening sky or a stunning sunset in good weather. Continous Bay trail for cyclists & foot traffic with interesting artwork & info. Dogs on leash but seems like this is ignored. Upgrade is finished & much welcome though Council could have replaced the ugly white beacon with a sculpture. Toilets nearby & Cafe further up. Upgraded playground with BBQ but limited tables. Timed parking - hefty charges. Elwood Beach nearby has Life surfers in summer. Canal flows into bay very close by - so observe water quality warnings esp. after heavy rain.
This is literally one of the best spots to view the sunset and sunrise along with the city night lights. We spent about 30 to 60 minutes here watching the sun set and admiring the night lights. It was surprisingly not as cold as expected. I'd arrive there at least an hour before because there are a lot of people and not much parking however, there is also street parking near Point Ormond playground, a lot of traffic too but it's well worth it!

Busy on a PH & at times on weekends due to its popular location & the view is amazing. BBQ facilities & drinking fountains, bench tables including areas under cover, kids playground, open space areas to play footy or whatever your choice. Great walking path along foreshore, including separate bike paths.Toilet facilities 20 metres away and plenty of metered on street parking.

A simple lookout, but with such gorgeous view of the sea and city! Plenty of cyclists stop here for a rest and to take in the view from the top. There’s a children playground and bbq area across the lookout, so overall a great place for family gatherings, picnics and beach time! You can walk here from St Kilda Beach, but I suggest taking Bus 246, which will take you here too. Plenty of space for parking too.
Rode my new E scooter to the top of the hill. Lot's of first time visitors, clicking pictures, families liking what they saw. I told a couple mum's and dad's about New Years eve fireworks and the point being a great spot to view the fireworks and lots of picnics, however it's very popular and happy people time.

UPDATE: The point is now open. At the time of writing, the point is currently being upgraded and cannot be accessed. However, the beach is very calm and a fantastic spot to watch the sunset. Toilet facilities are nearby and if you're smart about parking can do so for free in clearways or various local roads. Otherwise paid parking is available, but you won't catch me using it.
A scenic lookout near the city. You can go for a good walk enjoying the environment and viewing the city skyline. Cyclists can enjoy their rides too. Calm and peaceful environment to spend good quality time. Kids-friendly Park and BBQ facility, food tables, and great lawn make it an awesome picnic spot. Toilets available. Parking slots are available. Open 24 hrs
This place is right between Elwood beach and St Kilda beach...Been here many times and the walking trails are just so easy to access and the vibes is always good. On this Ormond Point lookout, you can see Melbourne CBD very well and the view is magnificent!!! Come here during sunset, it is stunning,,, highly recommended!!!!!
I visit Elwood Beach and the point ormond, Brighton Beach regularly and find this area is the most relaxing rather than the hustle and bustle of St kilda or Port Melbourne, there are a variety of small cafe's, restaurants in the area plus its a short walk to Auckland Street...I totally recommend this area as a whole.
Great place for locals to go for a jog in the morning and perfect spot to walk to after work on a hot afternoon or to looki at the city veiws while the sun goes down. Although there are drinking stations I would BYO water. Oh and don't bother swimming after rain as it is quite close to storm water outlet.
Point Ormond has provides some great views of Melbourne's skyline and Port Philip Bay. There's a dedicated cycle track and walking path, and the area in general is great for sunsets and sunrises. Dogs are allowed in most places on-leash, and is definitely a recommended place when visiting the area.
Beautiful view! Very relaxing and a great place to go on a picnic, unwind, exercise, hang out with friends/family and watch the sun rise or sunset! We highly recommend visiting this look out. We’ll surely be back!

Visited this lookout during the sunset. A beautiful scenery to take with the Melbourne City backdrop. The park is suitable for the kids as there is a newly renovated big playground. Furthermore, you can park your car there and walk to another tourist attraction, which is the Bathing boxes.
Great place to get out and about for some fresh air. Nice sandy beach with decent walking and bike tracks. Scenic views of the bay and Melbourne CBD. Lots of BBQ's and picnic tables dotted about. Small playground and kids enjoy running up and down the hill. Car parking is $5.60 per hour
I did the coastal walk between Brighton Beach and St Kilda, it was really nice!! Count 1h30, but the walk is great, you can see how cool is Melbourne: healthy sportsmen (running, cycling..), dog lovers and family friendly. Surrounded by nice villa, parks, coastal sea and CBD buildings.
Beautiful views across the bay to the city of Melbourne and also across the bay. A popular location for bike riders. The hill also makes this a popular spot interval running training. Nice spot to just sit and take in the view - awesome on a sunny day - usually quite windy here!
Beautiful view of the city from Point Ormond... lovely walking trail to walk from St. Kilda beach to Brighton beach... definitely worth visiting this place again and again... there were multiple parks alongside with couple of cafes to have lovely coffee's and walk along the bay
This is a breathtaking 180 degree view over Port Philip bay, Melbourne CBD and Elwood beach. It’s also one of the windiest point, so be prepared! If you arrive early enough to get a good spot, you’ll have a spectacular view of New Year’s Eve fireworks …
One of Melbourne’s best spots , you have a wonderful bayside walking / bike track minutes from Elwood beach , a huge reserve with playgrounds and public BBQ ‘s . The look out point which sits on a small hill overlooking the bay , foreshore and Melbourne’s City
A wander on the beach. The breadth of languages heard as you listen to people going past, lovely. We found shells to admire. We watched the waves on the rocks. We looked at the Port and all its activity.

Beautiful morning with clear blue sky. Great view of the city skyline, Port Philip Bay and beach. Folks grabbed the opportunity the first day after lockdown lifted to walk, run, cycle, swim, fish, canoe, picnic, soak up the sun and chill out at the cafe.
August 2023, the paths are undergoing redevelopment. They're replacing the old lighting that had great character, with new modern LED ones - a shame. Yes, worth a visit.

As bike tracks go this is pretty good. There was mostly a dedicated bike path on our ride from Brighton to Port Melbourne section of the path which extends much further south. Mostly flat. Great mid morning on a week day as it is not so busy.
Driving around 15 minutes from Melbourne CBD, and you’ll find this gem. You can see Melbourne CBD from a far with decent beach and playground for kids. There are bbq facilities available, with toilet and small cafe for grab quick snacks.
Nice outlook in the burbs. Relatively easy to get to if you live anywhere in Melbs. The downside at this moment (2023) the works on the beach, so it’s closed to the public but the outlook, walking and bike trail are open to the public.
Point Ormond lookout offers great views of Melbourne’s skyline and the Port Phillip Bay. You can walk or cycle along the tracks and see the spectacular sunsets or sunrises. Worth having a look if you are around the bayside near Elwood.
A great lookout point in the city, regardless of the season. Best time to come is during sunset, the views are simply stunning. It can get a bit windy and cold, bring along a jacket to keep warm. Perfect spot for a picnic or a BBQ.
Soooo good!!!! Best destination in Mel so far, make sure you bring food and beer with you and some mat, can be crowded during sunset, you can go around 6-730 pm very goooood sunset spot, so romantic!!

The best therapy is free, catch a sunset overlooking the city. Nice view of the ocean while going on your evening run from Brighton beach to St Kilda beach. Stalls and cafes stretch along the way for your hunger fix
Great place for a walk or picnic, for photos would not recommend staying for long. Lots of families around with kids and dogs.

Good seaside walk in the early morning to listen to Robins chipping or early evening for the sun set sencery. It is a popular location for cycling and jogging, or walk hand in hand with your love one.
Point Ormond Lookout is blessed with beautiful views across the Port Phillip Bay and to the city of Melbourne. With green slopes, it is great for photography sessions during the sunset in particular.
Very beautiful place yo watch a sunset. A good idea for a picnic date maybe or just for anyone who loves sunset.

We did not realise that this was such a really popular spot for anyone to check out the sun setting… it was cold during early August 2023 but still many came… we enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere…

One of the greatest beach in Melbourne. Calm and beautiful beach surrounded by nature. Must visit place for photography lovers. Cycling lovers, must visit this place.
One of my favourite places in Melbourne, cannot remember how many times I’ve been here with friends. Sightseeing, jogging or picnic definitely worth visiting! …

A place very close to the city. One of the best places to take a walk along the coast, enjoy the sunset and stare at the Melbourne’s skyline.
Stunning view and a great sea wind. views of the full skyline of Melbourne. We advise arriving just before dusk to begin a peaceful evening!
Great view. We had a bbq here and it was really a lovely place to hang with children. Play area is amazing and the lookout point is nice.
A fantastic walking experience along the track, with the soothing sound of sea waves and beautiful coastal plants enhancing the journey.

A non-windy day in winter in Melbourneis very uncommon and forgetful. Felt so much peace today. Enjoyed the walk to st kilda beach.

It's cool, but sunset along St Kilda's beach seems nice too. Quite a photo spot for many, so it can get quite chatty.
The view is great, but the hill is quite small. What's even more beautiful is the coastal promenade right next to it.
