"I am booked here for a long work trip, this is my experience so far: - Location is good, close to the malls and a nice view point up the road"
"It's a very expensive three star hotel, with plenty of steamed food with little to do as there aren't any proper amenities with a tiny pool"
"no fridge or microwave in room, not obvious before booking"
"Me and my family always book at different protea hotels and have been pro card members for years "
Made a reservation for a birthday dinner. On arrival, booking was not captured and table was not reserved. My date celebrating her birthday wanted the penne pasta dish, however we were told that the pasta needs to be rolled out and would have to order an alternative meal. After ordering an alternative meal, we were told there is pasta but only spaghetti, which in itself was strange since there was no meal on the menu with spaghetti. My date had chosen a chicken breast meal and I had ordered a T-Bone steak. At this moment we were already getting upset because what establishment has pasta on the menu and no pasta in the kitchen. When my steak arrived along with what was supposed to be our starter but because of the pasta predicament only the steak and starter came out and the starter was offered by the waitress to my date as to not let her wait without food. Chicken taco starter was nice, we liked that and it was about the only thing we liked about our experience. My steak was covered in what tasted like roast gravy instead of a steak basting/marinade. I am assuming that the roast gravy offered at the buffet that night was more convenient to use as to making a proper marinade. Anyway steak tasted like kidney and roast which was not nice and we sent it back to the kitchen. The waiter advised that a fresh steak will be prepared without the gravy, it would be out in 5 - 10 minutes. The stuffed chicken breast dish arrived a few minutes after, albeit a bit dry, it tasted okay according to my date. After my date had ate three quarters of her meal, my steak had still not arrived and we decided that we will be leaving without me having a meal. Between the time i sent the steak back to the time the steak arrived, no waiter approached our table. When the second steak eventually arrived 40 minutes later, I had already lost my appetite and sent it back to the kitchen and asked for the bill. Interesting thing to note is that some patrons are served faster than others in this establishment. The managers position in the restaurant is non-existant, when food is sent back twice I'd expect any manager would want to know from the customer what the issue is. We were at Point of View restaurant during covid and suffered through the same poor service, however thought that service was poor due to covid and decided to try the restaurant again, sadly we found that service is just poor in general. My date found that the whole experience spoiled her birthday. Not to mention the fact that we drove 45 minutes to get to the establishment during loadshedding, only to have the night ruined. Uploaded pics of the meals we eventually received.

I am booked here for a long work trip, this is my experience so far: - Location is good, close to the malls and a nice view point up the road. - Room is basic, for the costs I expected much better. - Rooms are cleaned daily but never smells clean and fresh. Clean towels had dirt marks on them. - On the day of my arrival in CT, reservations called me changing my stay to another hotel due to unforeseen maintenance. The other hotel was across the road from the airport in an industrial area. No shops or malls close by. After expressing my unhappiness, my Protea reservation was suddenly reinstated. - If you enjoy your sleep, this is not the place for you. Noise disturbances from other residents until early hours of the morning. I had to buy myself ear plugs. - The reservation person that called me with the change of hotel eventually ignored emails, not very professional. - Today 19 Oct, I get here after a long day to find no running water. Called reception and was told that there is a water fault in the area. I asked if they have a contingency plan to which he offered water that I can boil in the room and use out of the basin. I called City of Cape Town myself and was told that there are no faults, outages in Tyger Valley. Not sure who the liar is in this situation. Based on this, I will never consider a Protea again. This has been and still is an unpleasant experience. I am dreading the rest of my stay!

It's a very expensive three star hotel, with plenty of steamed food with little to do as there aren't any proper amenities with a tiny pool. Not a place to stay long for a holiday, restaurant menu is priced according to five star hotels while the food is no where close to such status. Most of the food is steamed and lacks flavour. Restuarant lacks proper ventilation, after having breakfast your clothes smell the oils and food being prepared. Rather settle for another alternative like air bnb. The venue runs out of ideas on their daily menu offerings ending up repeating the same breakfast menu over and over. You only book at such a place when the whole of Cape Town has ran out of places to stay. The place doesn't have enough parking space and security is not tight, rather stay at an air bnb. Staying there was torture to my inner peace and staff becomes unfriendly once they know the company is paying and you aren't paying. Will definitely make sure my company de-registers this hotel out of our company hotel list, wouldn't want innocent individuals to go through the humiliation I went through. They don't even deserve to be three star, I wonder how did that happen
no fridge or microwave in room, not obvious before booking. many tv channels could not be viewed at all, grainy or hardly any image. restaurant is a no go in person, orderded food in a group, half the group received food, other half 40 minutes later after having to follow up. ordering from room the same dish was missing various ingredients each time. e.g. garden sald was missing feta on day 1, then day 2 it was missing olives etc. side order of chips were normal, kinda spicy and extremely spicy, no consitancy. constant issues witj making payment as their payment point hardly ever had signal. laundry was R 1000 for 21 items, mainly t shirts and underwear :/. bed was very uncomfortable, dipped in centre. power would be turned off an on daily at midnight to turn your aircon off. the wifi stopped working and they came to switch the room power off and on again after I tried to explain the router is not in the room, that they need to reboot the router itself or ask their IT company to check.

Me and my family always book at different protea hotels and have been pro card members for years .It was our first time trying Tygervalley and the experience was terrible. We weren’t greeted in a kind way,we had to pay extra for 2 people even though we booked for 4 people ,we called for coffee and milk to be brought up to our room and nobody brought it ,the man as reception was rude and put off the phone. We felt unwelcome even though we were paying to be there ,I would never visit this hotel again .When our holiday was over we confronted the staff and asked to speak to a manager but instead they red flagged us for our bookings at other protea hotels and sent a rude email .I am very disappointed .The pool was also locked even though they said it would be open @7,we had to get one of the nice staff members to open the pool.I love protea hotels but don’t recommend the one in Tygervalley

As we arrived to the hotel in high spirits for a night getaway only to be welcomed in a cold manner with the manager and receptions faces looking sour and completely unhappy to see us checking in, for what reason? We will never know. I am absolutely disgusted at the guest service from this hotel. Johan who is the duty manager and Jurica the receptionist, after the terrible welcoming we requested a refund only to be told no. We will be contacting head office on Monday to take this further. Johan & Jurica, please change your attitude towards any further guests that would take the chance to stay there. We come to hotel establishments for the CUSTOMER service. That makes all the difference!

After getting to the hotel I'm told there's a minor water issue that will be resolved shortly. Many hours later there is no water at all and when I call the City of Cape Town they confirm that there is no fault and there should be water. I'm clearly not the first person to experience this situation. I'm told that there is nothing they can do and I'll lose my money if I choose to go to another hotel and will not be reimbursed. Pathetic service! Update: after speakingwith City of Cape Town on the phone, with the hotel manager present, it is clear that the manager was not calling hourly to ensure that issues were being addressed. The hotel made the entire situation my issue to resolve and were clearly lying about getting updates.

I've stayed at Road Lodges that were more comfortable and "luxurious". It's like an apartment block where you get ur own dreary hostel style room. Even the lights here are dull...like the ambience. If it were in a hotel set-up, it might be more understandable. There is not even a balcony...probably best - would have had to throw myself off it for my poor choices. TV plan here sucks too. Only MNet, M4, ID and a few sports channels. Download something to your phone otherwise you will be staring at the beige and turquoise walls all night.

I spent 3 nights at the hotel, located not too far from airport, and around 25 minutes from the city centre. The rooms can be a bit of a trek from reception. Though not looking much from the outside, the room was clean and sizeable, with a large shower, and a fridge. I had to request an iron and ironing board. The restaurant was OK, friendly staff, and an OK selection of meals for dinner, with a bar. Sitting outside the restaurant you have a great view of table mountain, perfect after a long day. Late check out (until 17.00) costs 400ZAR.
Average hotel, worthy of its 3 star rating. We stayed in the Deluxe room. Rooms felt dusty upon entering, after which we were greeted by a baby cockroach running across them desk. Shower room forms part of the bath tub, so might be unsafe to get in and out when showering. Large working desk spaces. Pillows were comfortable. Breakfast serving area is quite small with the typical buffet offerings; nothing extra or out the ordinary provided. All in all, just a place to stay in if you need affordable accommodation.
WE had a very bad experience at the restaurant, poor customer interface from the time of arrival, food took 2 hours come and order incorrect .. surly waitress who could not care less. very disappointing as we had overseas guests and it was valentines day. Quite a contrast to the rest of the hotel which is top class. Time to change the management there, food was excellent. Looking at the faces of other clientele , we where not the only unhappy faces., Not the choice for future visits Neville Murray durbanville
We felt very comfortable as we entered. All was arranged as expected. Outstanding services rendered by staff to make our stay a memorable one. Akhona,Sandy ,Lulama, Kholeka and Linda, thank you. You went of your way to ensure my wife received prescribed meals. For my birthday the chef created a special birthday surprise. Thank you. We will definitely come again Thank you. Will definitely recommend.

It started off bad due to restaurant prokard with a lady giving me tough time even though I explained that I booked with prokard unlike at breakwater lodge (which I'm extremely disappointed with there service) I'm glad that Stanley and Busisiwe sorted my issues out I have to say if it wasn't for them I'd be canceling my prokard membership immediately. Thank you team for such a wonderful service

Shocking service. We were the only two people in the bar lounge, took forever to get service and when we finally did, we were asked if we are joining for lunch... When we replied we are there for a business meeting and only wanted 2 coffees... We got lip... After 20 minutes finally received a very average coffee. The second round was as slow. Very embarrassing...will never hist a business meeting there, or meet anyone there again.
Thank you to the friendly staff today, especially the manager on duty (unfortunately can't remember your name). You went way beyond your scope of duty trying to calm down a mob of estate agents and getting everyone comfortable to write their exam at your venue. I appreciate all your efforts and I'm sure a lot of others do too. Have a restful and calm afternoon

Really bad food, asked both the chef and the waiter personally to make me a medium rare steak and they gave me a well done steak with raw undercooked potatoes. Had a tuna salad which was basically just a can of tuna dumped on some lettuce with no salad dressing or any seasoning. Will never go and eat there again.

Bad restaurant. Had sub-standard service with sub-standard food. Complete order was wrong and then we were requested to dish out the wrong order into a small plate ourselves and the other portion of the order was then sent separately. Very expensive wine list, between R65-R85 per glass. Steak was of poor quality and overcooked - sub-standard. I would never go back. Also not recommended anyone to go.
Had very good service for my limited experience of staying in hotels. They have excellent views over the city. The room was always clean and tidy. We stayed in a twin with 2 double beds. They were comfortable and snug. Not too spacious which is my experience of hotel rooms. Will probably be different if you stay on a different type of room, say a double or suite. Will definitely recommend.
For the price you would expected a little more. No microwave or mini fridge in the rooms. To adjust the aircon in the middle of the night, had to get out of bed and stand directly in front of the aircon unit. Food was great. Large breakfast spread staff very friendly. Probably wouldn't stay agian due to the lack of the mini fridge as we had a small child and couldn't keep his milk cold.
The meals are absolutely amazing. The staff go above and beyond what is required of them! The conference facilities are spacious and stunning and the rooms have the best view ever. Thank you Sibongile and team for hosting our company so professionally and making our stay this week a memorable one., there is always room for improvement but keep up the amazing work guys.

Staff 5 stars for service , availability 4/5 I think the hotel under staffed for certain shifts, there were some time during the day after breakfast rush and after dinner it was hard to find front of house or bar staff. The rooms were clean, breakfast was good but the omlette station was oversubscribed. Rooms clean 5/5 and overall service 4/5. NIGHT STAFF GET 5/5.

Not as good as other Protea Hotels, buffet we enjoyed, food well prepared, but this amount is called a mini-buffet at other Hotels at much lower price, wasn't it for Entertainer or Prokard, Protea Hotel is to expensive to dine at. Plus point, great view over the city and all the lights and very friendly security and helpfull staff.
I had a short stay at this hotel and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were exceptional. The rooms are spacious with a large King size bed, Aircon, TV, bar fridge and microwave. The conference rooms are stylish and have amazing views of Table mountain. Highly recommended! Thank you for your hospitality
A bit isolated but course to Tygervalley shopping centre. Nice and peaceful location away from everything ideal for a weekend breakaway. I noticed it's quite popular among cyclests on weekends as a gathering point. Nice set up, with a nice cost and relax atmosphere. The staff is always friendly and ample of free parking.
Although the view is beautiful, the service from some of the staff is terrible. the rooms are right by the high way and horribly noisy through the night. The rooms are not cheap, there are much better option available for less in the area. Not recommended at ALL

I always enjoy staying at this hotel. It is pretty neat and clean, the staff members are very warm and friendly. Always enjoy their buffet of which it’s served all days. Nice breakfast with a variety of delicious choices...Neat clean rooms with fluffy white warm bedding including their white white bathroom towels.
The ramps are too steep at the Hotel entrance & restaurant entrance. The accessible bathroom not properly modified. Grabrails & shower chair not properly placed. Wash basin not wheelchair friendly at all. Big thank you to Siyande, Luvo (receptionists) & Anda from restaurant they really made me feel at home.

Love the place, love the room service menu but it could stI'll be improved and have things like milkshakes, more meat options, more desert options etc. Also there is no gym in the facility so that's really a problem especially if I stay there for more than a week. Other than that I would rate it a 5
A hotel always a winner for me! Just missed a bar and tv(for the sports derby) the hotel dinner / breakfast experience or maybe we were attracted by the local family restuarant also serving the hotel? I did order room service drinks and within minutes the knock on the door - excellent service!
We usually use this hotel for our company meetings. Has great views and the food and service are great. But it sits next to a busy highway and the decor comes across old and outdated. The wifi did not work and we needed some extension leads because we hardly had any accessible plugs.
At reception they did not tell me how to activate electricity in my room. I saw a tiny cockroach in my room and I wondered whether they do clean up properly or do regular pest control. At breakfast, I found one of the plates was not washed at the bottom, it had brown greasy dirt. ☹☹☹
Although only there for a day long workshop, we were very impressed with the general service, the attention to detail, the way the beverages were served (coffee/tea), the lovely and well prepared food and of course the friendliness of the staff and the lovely clean cloakrooms.

Just ended a nearly three weeks stay at this property. I never felt insecure nor willing it to end. Place is nice, great staff at the bar and great buffet breakfast which kept me going until midday-early afternoon. Everybody was helpful, I can surely recommend this hotel.
I stayed here a few weeks ago. Everything was fine. My welcoming was excellent. Staff are not being treated the right way. I saw that some are working the same shift for long periods of time they look exhausted. They need to be treated better!!

Disappointing and our expectations were let down . Expected more from the hotel brand. The location is awful, it’s right next to the main highway and noisy, we and takes 25/30 minutes to get into Cape Town central. And absolutely nothing to do around in the area.
This is the best hotel on this side of Cape Town. The service is friendly and responsive. For example I placed an order for dinner but was unable to get back to the hotel in time. Instead of me missing dinner I found my order in my room. A home away from home.
We weren't informed that there are no smoking rooms. We also asked for a room with a balcony, which we didn't get. We weren't informed that we have to insert the room key into a slot in order to have power in the room. The room service food was great though.
Lovely view of the city's lights and an enjoyable buffet dinner at the Point of View Restaurant. Comfortable seating. Not sure why I felt a little let down by the cheap single-ply serviettes. Definitely will have another meal there, this time a la carte.
The most important thing to me is a kitchen sink to get water for coffee and at least be able to wash the dirty cups and to have at least plates with knives and forks which my room had none of

Reason for my rating being a 3 I attended a work conference and did not enjoy all of the amenities Protea has to offer. The bar tender was very attentive that much I do know. Hospitable staff and a spectacular view of Cape Town from the deck.
My stay at this hotel was thoroughly enjoyed. Staff cater for your every need and are willingly to go the extra mile. It is well located and is extremely clean with all amenities available. Strongly recommend staying here. Outstanding place.

We had a PPRA exam in the conference centre and the staff were gracious, organised very well, considering they had to accommodate 20 more candidates at the last moment. Well done! Thank you! Carol Odendaal
The hotel has a self catering vibe however, the breakfast was pricey for a very small buffet. The block we were in was very noisy mostly noise coming off the highway and the main road with a viewing point.
I stayed for 7 nights, was only told about joining the rewards club on my last 2 nights. Meaning I've lost 5 nights of stay which could have been part of the rewards points, that's for me was just off.
Nothing wrong with the hotel, good food, friendly staff, fridge and microwave in the room. Service are good, the only negative is loverslane road on top over weekends during the night are very noisy.

I think the room numbering could be more clear as it is tricky to locate some of them.

Sub standard in terms of the overall space and finishes....fittings etc, poor service from reception, warm staff at the bar and kitchen.
