Me and my Boyfriend had purchased my sister a early Christmas gift to get her hair done at Pulse Salon in Portland OR. She went in to get it done and showed her hair stylist exactly what she wanted, then her hair stylist gave her recommendation on a new hair coloring called a biolage hair coloring. My sister had told them she wanted her roots to be more blond so the lady goes okay with a biolage the color will go up to your roots. Once it was done it looked more like a ombree hair color as we even have pictures. She wasn't happy because the hair stylist told her she would make the top of her hair more blond when she came home the only new blond was at the ends no were else spending over $200 dollars we called and asked them to kindly fix it the people at the salon said that they need to speak to the manager after not returning our call back for a while they finally did saying that she can come back in but would have to pay again for new coloring which was pretty much the same price we already paid another $200 plus. Later I called back asking to speak to the owner they said they would contact the owner and return my call after waiting over a week for the call I called my self to see what the hold up was the reception told me her manager/owner was sick and would call me back again waiting and not hearing anything I called once again and the reception rudely said the owner doesn't care about out problem and doesn't want to talk to us because she doesn't care. First of all can some one please say UNPROFESSIONAL??? Are you joking me you take our $200 plus and do what you want and that's it? Never have I heard of such FRAUD. The least this company could do is fix her hair for free and if not give us our money back and we will go get it done elsewhere. The reason I share this is so that you can be cautious about coming here. I also hope no one else gets treated this way. I also contacted the Better Business Bureau regards this situation.

After giving this salon a second chance and MORE MONEY, I decided to leave the review I felt was deserved to begin with. First visit... I saw Courtney and I requested my roots get lightened in addition to adding a CHERRY BOMB RED overall color. I decided to treat myself for my 40th birthday photoshoot/vacation in Maui. My theme was mermaid Ariel hair with a mermaid crown... It was a NIGHTMARE!!!! After lightening my roots and adding red I was left with a HUGE DARK BAND about an inch from my roots. I has informed her previous to starting that Paul Mitchell school did a shadow root which could potentially affect the outcome of the lightening... All to no avail ultimately. Long story short, i was in the salon for around 6 HOURS! She desperately tried to cover it with MORE DYE 5 TIMES!!! Finally I couldn't take anymore and said "It's ok!" After all was said and done I paid $180 for the color, $30 for a RED conditioner PLUS felt it necessary to TIP 2 PEOPLE (Theresa is amazing btw) for copper hair and a dark ring! It was WORSE THAN WHWN I CAME IN!!! FAST FORWARD TO TODAY... After returning from Maui and being encouraged by the staff to "reach out if anything needed fixing" I went to a consultation with Suzanne and Theresa. We made an appointment for today! After I sat there for another 4 hours the owner decides to charge me "ONLY $80" for the correction which was established as being THEIR FAULT!! I'M BLOWN AWAY!!!! IF I was going to be charged I would have scheduled on a different day or not at all and should have been made aware PREVIOUS TO THE SERVICE!!!!! This put me in a position where I had to give the large tip I had for the stylist to the salon! SCAM is right... Even though the salon is beautiful, product is great, the service is not even 3 STARS... DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME! A SHAME!

I Saw the Owner of Pulse. Suzanne - This is the Best Salon in Town ! I no peps always say this about their salons. But Its really TRUE about 'Pulse' and Very Good Prices. I have Very Difficult Hair to cut the first time. Not to mention, consistently every 6 to 8 weeks. My Hair is Very Thick, Needs Allot of conditioner's, and then a GOOD STYLIST -pray- that knows good technique for you. Suzanne - Hit it out of the park ! woooo hoooo My previous hair dresser from Tribe Studio hair - made a heavy, $$$$$$$, uneven discrase of ! Even Suzanne kept saying Boy of Boy through out my cut. Funny Uh - have you ever been in this positon? Suzanne was Exactly What I Needed ! so refreshing. And for all you Ladies out there Suzanne is a vry. skilled hair dresser. I m so happy that my searching high and low for a good hair dresser days are over - im staying put here with Suzanne.

Susan is amazing at cutting curly hair! This salon is professional and chic the moment you walk in. Let me start out saying I have very curly hair and I was wanting a hair cut but scared to let someone who didn't understand curls touch my hair. Anyone with curly hair has had that story of the one time they went into a salon and came out looking like a poodle. So needless to say I was nerves. I went into Pulse as a walk in, expecting to just talk to a stylist about how I wanted my hair cut. Susan greeted me and made me feel very comfortable, she took me to her chair and said all the right things about curly hair. I knew she knew what she was talking about and she fit me in her schedule right then and there. I walked away with the best hair cut I have ever had and now I know who I can trust :) Great salon, great people, great atmosphere, and awesome products.

I had an absolutely horrible experience here after paying $230 for all over highlights. My hair was ruined and looked/felt like processed cardboard. The owner didn’t bother to return my calls or respond to my email and zero compensation was given. I had to cut 3 inches of my hair off because of the stylist mistake and pay a different salon $200 to correct the mistake :( The assistant manager encouraged the owner to contact me given my experience but I never heard from her (was told she went camping for a few days). I called again after manager returned from camping but manager wasn’t available. I was never given the option to see a different hair stylist and had no idea that was ever an option until after the third and final visit and was told this by the receptionist. I have never gone back to a hair stylist for corrections until coming here

I LOVE this place. I had the BEST experience. I work regular 8-5 hours. I had no idea where I wanted to go, but I found this place online. The ratings were good and they were willing to work with my schedule! I was so thankful. Not only did my hair turn out amazing, I had the best experience I have ever had at a salon. Nikki made me feel right at home and comfortable telling her exactly what I want. She really took her time and the entire experience was above and beyond. I won't be going anywhere else for my hair care needs. Thank you Nikki. Shout out to Arthur for being so kind and friendly as well. It's one of the worst feelings to walk into a salon and feel like they don't really want you there. This was the exact opposite feeling. So THANKYOU. I would definitely recommend to anyone. Already looking forward to my next experience here.

I really like the Professional Stylists that work at PULSE Salon, They listen to every concern and thought. I felt like these women cared about each and every one of us that was in the salon the few times I went there before being referred to GLOW, Which if you look you will see my reviews for GLOW as NOT good. So I will be returning to Pulse in about 6 months to a year after letting my hair grow out after my Horrifying experience at GLOW. Keep up the good work Pulse Salon.Hope you are still around Rebeka.. The ALMOST gave a 4 star instead of 5 because I felt my hair needed to be washed more thoroughly, I came home with a purple still on my roots from the toner. Just think you need more lighting in the shampoo bowl room. That's my only complaint if you can call it that. 5 STARS LADIES FOR 2012-2013

One of the best salons I have ever been to. The staff is professional, kind, and attentive. Not to mention, the salon is beautiful & elegant. You will feel like royalty. When I usually visit other salons, even barbershops, my stylist fails to give proper attention to a thorough consultation. I feel like just another customer they’re trying to get through the door. At Pulse Salon, the stylists have always made sure to consult with me on the appropriate length & style. I feel like a good friend, rather than just a number. I have received my best results at this salon and I have been to MANY different salons. If I lived in Portland I would continue to come here regularly. I definitely highly recommend to anyone who is looking for quality results and a second home!

Suzanne is super experienced and talented. I wish I had taken before photos of what was a color disaster (orange roots from box dye in contrast with super ashy platinum ends with pink tint). She was able to squeeze me in last minute on a Saturday and gave me luscious, soft, ashy platinum blonde all over. She didn’t rush the process and gave the toner exactly as much time as it needed to achieve a beautiful, uniform tone. The addition of Olaplex made my hair look and feel healthy and soft (it was brittle and dry before). Reasonably priced for the high quality of service. If I lived in Portland I would be a Suzanne devotee.

I had the best experience here there staff is wondering and caring they have a very calm and peaceful environment and always make sure you are doing okay! One of the perks I found to this salon was the mini neck massage after the washing of my hair it helped to release the pain of cramping from being laid back. And my hair is above what I expected I knew they would do a outstanding job but I am so impressed and in love with my hair I wanted a chage and Suzanne gave me just that not to mention she squeezed me in last minute and booked me in on her day off to say the least I wont go anywhere but here!

My hair turned out AWFUL! I paid $220 for c r a p. Will never go here again. I had to go to another salon just to get it RE DONE because Pulse wouldn't fix it. Everyone who saw my hair agreed it looked horrible. Words cannot describe how disrespectfully unprofessional Pulse salon handles consumer complaints regarding hair their employees messed up horribly. Do not go to this SCAM of a company who doesn't care about it's consumers, all they care about is the OVER PRICED services they charge for ugly results.

My name is Lilly Davidson and it was my first time going in here for a haircut and some layering. At first I was unsure about the place because of its small entrance but right when I opened the door I got a great welcoming. The service was great. The way Courtney did my hair was just wonderful because she wasn't trying to stab my hair with a comb, spray my face, or blowdry my face. 5 stars, I give because I will be coming back again.

I have lived in Portland for a few years and have been to quite a few different salons and hairstylists but Pulse will always be my first choice. The customer service here is on point. The stylists here pay very close attention to detail from the shape of my head, the direction my hair grows, to what color to dye my hair in accordance to my skin-tone etc. Each visit I always learn something new about my hair and leave satisfied.

I love this salon! I've been there twice and will keep going to see Andrea for my cut and highlights. First of all, she is really good at her job, very fast and the result is amazing. Andrea came up with this great combo or colors that look awesome with my skin tone. She also recommended some really good hair products that work awesome on my hair. Overall- great experience, I highly recommend this salon!

Susan is amazing, I can’t believe it took me this long to find her! I had so many salon mess my hair up to where I had to cut off 30-40 inches of hair. I lost about 10 years of length because people didn’t know how to use bleach properly? Pulse salon is your solution for every need and with her experience in the industry she is the best for the quality of work provided. Customer for life!

Great stylists, caring and involved owner, and a cute location across from the main library. Expanded into spa services, too. Pulse Salon uses top line products and has them available for sale...but very low key sales...not pushy. I hate to recommend this salon because I don't want it to get too busy but I have to give credit where credit is due. Thanks Suzanne!

You might be able to find talent here, but my advice would be to avoid the owner. She not only charged me the full price of a cut just to trim my daughter's bangs, she also abandoned me for some length of time in the middle of my appointment to conduct a staff meeting. Unfair and unprofessional.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Coming to Portland from Fort Worth for a wedding, the staff worked with me over the phone weeks in advance to make sure everything went smoothly. Nikki did my hair and make-up. My husband said I looked great! It was a wonderful experience, thank you, Pulse Salon!

Went in a while back to get some very choppy layers fixed and was so happy! She did a great job! I also dyed my hair a bit darker too. My hair felt super thirsty and dry but after a deep condition it was sooo soft and smooth. All around a very friendly and great place!

They are FANTASTIC at what they do. Great colour and cut, but what really makes it a great experience is the way they treat their customers, from the moment you walk in the door they treat you like a friend. It's a posh place but they aren't pretentious. Top notch.

Honestly hands down the best experience ever ! Sharayah did a phenomenal job on my hair and getting the color that I wanted . From Balayage to Ombré it was a change and how much I paid for totally worth it ! I think I found my new hair lady! THANKS LADIES !

Nicky was able to take me on short notice I had my haircut at a "top" salon in Vancouver BC. Hate hate hated my haircut. She was awesome. Fixed me up and I danced down the street with the cutest hair ever. May have to come back to Portland for my hair care.

My hair was fried. I was so scared of cutting it because I have thin curly hair that is also wavy. The person that cut it first gave so some stuff so I would not have to cut all of my hair off. My hair came out amazing. So thankful, coming back again.

I love this salon! Rebecca is hair magic! She turns my fine hair into an amazing short/pixie cut. Everyone is friendly, it's proximity to the max station is convenient, and the newly renovated space is beautiful.
