We came to Bristol for a weekend break and I usually come to the area maybe three or four times a year and always felt guilty about neglecting exercising because i didn't know there was a PureGym in the area. PureGym Bristol Central was a mere three-minute walk from my hotel at Travelodge Central and i liked that i didn't even need to bring much because it was that close to the hotel. We first came here this weekend and we did get a bit lost walking around the building but i think it was the Google Maps placement that made it look like it was opposite Pizza Express but it isn't. We came into the building and it was a standard capsule entry where you have to enter your pin to get access to the gym. You then need to take the lift up to either the 4th floor (the main section) or the 5th floor where the lockers and changing room are. I initially thought it was a bit of a confusing layout because it was a different style of building compared to the other gyms i have been to under the same PureGym franchise. We liked that the lockers here are bigger than the standard sizes so we could fit in a backpack instead of just being given space for a phone and maybe some change. The changing rooms here were bigger and i liked the showers, I didn't have a chance to use them because my hotel was literally around the corner but they looked high quality. The glass door was a little off-putting but it hid the private areas so i guess that's something. We used the treadmill first, this was an older style of treadmill than my local and it even had the connection points for an iPod. However, they were all on standby mode meaning it looked kike it wasn't working but you have to press the green "Go" for up to eight seconds before it reboots. I liked that there were multiple of the same machine meaning i could choose where i wanted to run but some of them were unusable due to some of them facing the bright white building that the sun was reflecting and i wonder if that was more suited for the clouder days perhaps. I had a good run and then i tried some of the weights, this is not down to the company but the customers themselves who would leave huge sports bags and jackets on some of the machines when they were not using them. This seemed to be accepted by the community and it really shouldn't be. Otherwise, it was a great gym and i am glad i visited, it is nice that i could exercise while being away from home and i like how it is open 24 7 meaning i can choose when i can exercise.

Wanna work out before/after work? Don’t bother. If you’re looking for free weights, your only chance of getting equipment is going during the day (lunch time) or middle of the night and I mean the middle of the night. Weekdays, it’s still RAMMED at 10pm. Expect to sometimes wait 30-60 minutes for a squat rack or the ONE bench press. I hope you like waiting for lifts or taking the stairs, because the gym is four floors up and the lifts are ALWAYS broken for weeks/months at a time. Don’t use cards in the vending machines, most of the time doesn’t work (it will still charge you and you will have to wait a few weeks for a refund). The place needs a proper clean, particularly in the stretching area on the 4th floor, so much hair/dust/toenails (yes). Most of the mats need replacing. Don’t get me wrong, this is an alright value gym (for Bristol, I think all the gyms in Bristol are overpriced, but hey that’s supply and demand). I’ve used the new PureGym in Worcester and it’s better in every way. More equipment. More space. Less busy. Clean. I only go to this gym because the location is so convenient for me, I wouldn’t recommend it to any serious lifters.

Very disappointing PureGym experience. Took a 3 day pass as I was in Bristol on business and wanted to continue my training. Could not believe the state of the place, granted i was normally there between 430 pm and 6pm but did not expect to have to search high and low for weight plates just to workout. No one tidies up after themselves as dumbells and plates were everywhere but back on the racks. Due to this PureGym being so popular i can understand why the equipment is worn down however the most disgusting thing that really annoyed me was there was no sanitizing spray/paper towels to wipe down the equipment after use. This is really bad hygiene and surely a health and safety violation, the gym has a cheek to have signs up telling members to wipe down equipment after use....with what exactly? If you want to wait 30 minutes to use any lifting equipment and want to bathe in the last persons sweat then this is the place for you! puregym.....purecrap more like!

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED!!!! I was cycling today during my cardio time in the cycle area and I was forced to leave the area and get out from the bicycle. One of the personal trainers, Romayne Graham, asked me to leave the area due to a cycle class which it's gonna start there and I shouldn't be there. I asked him if I can stay just for 10 minutes because I was going to finish my work out at that time and he denay me that option that and asked me again to leave. First, I don't understand what was the problem if during the class there are another person just cycling. Even more if there was enough space (there were empty bicycles). On the other hand, which 24 hours? I choosed this gym beacuse of it timetable and now, do I have to configurate my routine in order not to coincide with the classes? It is just pathetic. You cannot use the gym as you want and you are paying for that.

  • Mariana Tacea

Today's pump class at 18:15... What an overcrowded dangerous and disappointing class!!!!! Way too many people in a studio that can barely hold 20 people at a time with weights and bars. No weights available for everyone and at least 30 people inside. You might not realise but this is a health and safety issue. Constantly having to look not to poke someone. On top of this when the class finished a whole lot of other people started to get in preparing for the next class. Now imagine trying to put the bar, weights, mat away while a crowd of people rushes in to take spot. No organisation whatsoever. I mean don't get me wrong it is a very cheap gym and is close to home but my god I wouldn't recommend it. Way too small and overcrowded at all times. You have to wait at least 5 minutes to get out of the building. Very very disappointing.

I have been using Filton Abbey Wood gym over one year as a home gym on basic membership. Moved house so change membership amount to use several gyms as I move around alot daily. The home gym became Bristol harbour side and secondary gym Abbey Wood. I had access to both gyms on £29.99 package. I continued this way without issues for 2 months approximately. Suddenly I cannot access Filton Abbey Wood as secondary gym overnight it becomes not included and I am asked to pay £3 more and upgrade without any prior warning. Incredibly unprofessional and unacceptable to change terms over night. Very disruptive to my routine and I will not be using this gym again and willl take public to warn others of this practice. Furthermore no one to talk to to help management are not competent in helping.

Updating my rating with some comments. In this case I'm not changing the rating because due to COVID they have implemented great measures. There's wipes, hand sanitiser, there's blue roll and anti bacterial spray spread throughout the gym which is great. I feel safe going to the gym even though some people unfortunately are too selfish and don't really care about the others and what I mean by saying this is the fact they don't clean the machines after or before using. The most annoying thing on this is usually who do this is over 40's which can be at more risk of getting covid but don't seem to care. Anyway please continue to have enough cleaning supply so the gym can continue operating and we don't loose our gains!

Good range of equipment with 6 power racks with platforms, bumper plates , 2 benches. Lots of dumbbell benches and dumbbells up to 50kg. Been here 4 years and they’ve made a good number of improvements which is good to see (decking out the power racks, new pull up bars etc). Only gripe is the lift keeps on breaking and takes ages to get fixed, at least once where have been without a working lift for a few good weeks so you have to walk up 5 floors. But overall the gym has kept prices cheap , is good quality and going early morning I’ve never had any issues getting on the equipment I need

  • Max L Barker

Busy - this seems to be a running trend, yes it is because they are popular but maybe they need to think about money less and members satisfaction more and restrict membership. Maybe have more off peak type options eg only/excluding before office hours/lunchbreaks/after work. Its a hassle going up to the 5th floor in a lift, and then it doesn't seem to have much floor space esp for free weights, so is busy with all the other office workers nearby and hot too. But maybe this is only due to the current refurb, will give it a shot and hope it improves, otherwise will just cancel.

  • Katarzyna Wasiak

Does the job. Affordable membership price for a constant access at any time of day or night. Packed in the afternoon and just before people rush to work. Try to workout anytime in between if possible. Not a fan of fitness classes, that are usually scheduled at the time that it is almost impossible to arrive on time if you work office hours. No parking space that is free for gym members makes it sometimes annoying to go by car. Changing rooms could be renovated but still will do without it.

  • Elizabeth Wenzel

This gym and location are fantastic! The staff treats everyone like family and maintains everything neat and tidy! If there is ever a problem with the equipment, they are immediately on the scene to assist in resolving the situation! I haven't encountered anyone with a judgemental, arrogant attitude here, but you won't if you don't look for it. You won't be disappointed if you just come to get a decent exercise. Thank you so much to the owner for providing such excellent service.

  • John DesLauriers

The gym is fine. The equipment is decent for sure. The BIGGEST problem is just the overcrowding of this place. Their drive to increase membership does not meet the availability of equipment. There were several time I walked in as fast as I walked out because there just were no machines or weights available. I ended leaving the gym and found one that was less crowded during the times I could go... which is 4PM weekdays.

  • Luis Herrero

Good atmosphere, overall good place and equipment. It is such a shame the standards of cleanliness is very low. I have been in the gym over a year and they clean the toilets only once a week, it usually stinks and the state of air conditioning filtering and refreshing the air is rather concerning. Please review this asap as with hundreds of people attending and sharing facilities every day this is just unacceptable.

  • Neyah

love it and the Classes are amazing !!! Lee , Steve and Rob's Classes are my fave!!! and most importantly the classes at the gym and the equipment they have will get you in shape !! and the gym is friendly and they welcome you very well !! i love this gym and it the best gym i have gone to. i have been to other gyms and never really been 100 per cent happy but with pure gym i can truly say im happy at this gym

  • Jakub Piątkowski

The gym itself and the staff are ok. The only problem is the aircon -- apparently it turns on automatically once the appropriate temp. is reached but either that's BS or it checks the temperature on the 5th floor which is always cool and fresh. The 4th floor which contains most of the machines is almost ALWAYS stuffy and hot af. I wrote about that issue twice on their feedback sheets but nothing's changed.

  • Ruth Konieczna

Inaccessible to people with disabilities and wheelchair. Absolutely zero point in paying for a membership when the lift is broken more often than it is working. Cancellation fees on top so you get financially punished for not being able to access the gym equipment you are paying for. Would give zero stars if possible, never known somewhere to care so little about accessibility and customer experience.

  • Mysti Haynes

This gym has overcharged me, and whenever you try to email them it is only ever an automated response. In their email it stated to ring their helpline if you had any problems, and their helpline, when phoned, was just an automated message saying they are an online gym and so they don't answer the phone, only email. It's impossible to speak to a real person, I'm really disappointed with the company.

  • Pavel N.

Showers are my only complaint. The water is too hot, my skin was really red and dry after a fairly quick shower (it’s really difficult to stand underneath the stream of water). I tried it in the winter, then couple of weeks ago and it’s the same. I presume it’s done on purpose so ppl don’t use the showers? Not what I pay for though The gym itself and equipment are very good.

  • Thomas MacCallum (ElThommo)

Large well equipped. It needs to be said that this gyms landlord, the building management have shown themselves to be spectacularly useless. Over a year ago the lifts were closed for maintenance, they still are closed and the gym is on the 5th floor. If PureGym were any other kind of business they would have been forced to relocate. If your legs are not 100% please take note.

  • Mina B

It is great gym for the price you are paying. But at the same time, you will realise what you are paying too. Hard to see management team, but you will constantly hear announcements. Clean enough and tidy enough. Great range of equipments. One thing I don't like about Pure gym is they ask you for a review and but if you give any negative comment, they will not publish it.

  • Rodrigo Vaamonde

Very good gym. Lots of machines. Open 24hs. Lots of benefits. Vending machines with everything you need. Lots of lockers. Very clean. Only downside is that there are some silly things that should be more, like more hooks for the pulling machines and more weights for the bars (more fives and tens since they are the most used ones).

  • Tommy Xiao

The gym was nice as they have most of the equipments there. However, I do wish those who workout there can re-rack their weights after they finished their sets as it can get a bit messy around the free weight section. In addition, the bench press near the dumbbell section doesn’t line up properly when you lie down on the bench.

  • Anca Uricaru

You guys deserve 3 stars because you DON'T CARE AND YOU DON'T WANT TO REPARE YOUR OWN 2 ELEVATORS AND OBLIGATE ME WHEN I HAVE LEGS TRAINING DAY THERE TO USE THE STARES. Please do something with the elevators. Is been one years since doesn't work and half of years when everybody start to go to work. For god sake.

  • Aidan Farmer

This is a really good gym and the membership price is good as well for bristol. It can seem a bit crazy at busy times but there is still a lot to do I have been a member on and off as I was away from bristol for two years and then work got in the way but I have always come back would highly recommend

  • wanda szwaba

Have recently joined this gym and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. Recently refurbished it has a vast range if equipment and classes. Great view over tge city too. People are friendly and motivated. From young to old with everyone is focused and enjoying keeping or getting fit.

  • Daniel Ling

Great gym, highly affordable however I think the 50kg dumbells are a little bit light as I find I can rep them an unlimited amount. I also think the plates say 20kg, However weigh 10kg because I can bench 5 plates. And not only that I can squat 9 plates which in my opinion is amazing!!

  • Essam Ghadafi

This my 2nd year as a member at this gym. A very clean spacious 24/7 gym. Staff and the manager are super friendly and very helpful. Brilliant free classes for members. Classes delivered by Fraser Jamieson, Elisa Martelli, Steve Ogungboro, James Godley, and Wai Cheung are amazing.

  • Alex Wilson

Great location for a gym, great staff, good amount of space and equipment, members are sound. My one gripe is the weights not going back where they belong/left on the floor. Not staffs fault as a popular gym like that is going to attract a few rouge weightlifers with no etiquette.

  • mandy Langfield

As ever, gyms are reliant on great staff to make then stand out. I like most of the staff here, they out effort into their classes and look after you well. Good variety of classes every day, plenty on at lunchtime so good for city workers looking for a class to do on lunch break.

  • Rickesh Chauhan

Never tried a 24 hour gym. Easy to book a pass and get code to enter the gym. Equipment was good. Loads of open space. Studio area was designed well. Downside is lack of staff. If it's your first time and you can find a specific machine. Nobody to ask. Otherwise great place.

  • Adrienne Carroll

This gym is much nicer, very well kept and a better atmosphere than the Union Gate branch. Great views of the Harbourside on the top floor when exercising and lots of great bars to visit(not to mention the ice cream van) when you've finished!

  • Holly Belle

Clean and pleasant, only complaint is lack of matt space when it's busier, but this is probably due to distancing so I understand. Perhaps there could be a few extra matts to use for when people from the same household want to use the space.

  • Will Hazelden

Lovely gym, shame about the lifts ALWAYS being broken! 1 star off because of that little annoyance. Also people always leave locks on the lockers, so there's about half of them available in the changing rooms as people are selfish.

  • Bionic Tem

Very nice looking gym, although has issues with poorly organised dumbells and plates on the freeweight area. Also not a big fan of the translucent shower dividers without locks. Definitely a solid beginner - intermediate gym

  • Stuart

Best budget gym that I’ve been too. Facilities are good and the equipment is well maintained. Staff seem to genuinely care. It does get busy around 5-7pm weekdays, but this is to be expected. Pretty quiet on the weekends.

  • Dave Shattock

I've been here since on changed from fitness first. So happy I stayed on. Friendly approachable staff. Plenty of equipment Clean and tidy in all areas. Free classes included in the membership Great price st £18.99

  • Shxdow

Has lots of equipment and straight forward to use with instructions on each one. Lots of the same equipment to ensure people can use their desired equipment without it getting crowded. Looks very new and modern

  • isa khan

This gym is ok a lot cleaner than the pure gym in union gate but it's jus way to busy I been coming here for a year and not once was u able to use the free weight as it's jus way to busy and lack if space

  • Mohamed Elgadhafi

Very good gym with clean environment, many equipments, and affordable price specially to students. The only problem is shutting the locker tooms / showers after 12am which is inconvenient sometimes ..

  • Stuart Barr

Well equipped, no frills gym. Lacks a pool, towels, etc, but this keeps the cost down. No manned front reception. Gets quite busy at peak times (5-8pm Mon to Fri). Good location but no free parking

  • Callum McGowan Hayes

What a waste of time! Completely overcrowded! PureGym you need to cap the amount of members at any one time otherwise you have to wait ridiculous times to get on anything! Avoid!

  • Isabelle Schreuder

Best gym I've been to, PTs and managers are very friendly and welcoming, great atmosphere and good policy. Weights area has most the equipment you need and is clean.

  • Alan Waller

Can't fault it apart from a couple of particularly bad apples amongst the personal trainers (the rest of whom are excellent) otherwise would have given five stars.

  • AZIM AHMED

This gym is spacious and have enough cardiovascular machines and free weights. Only problem is it’s too busy on rush hours and members have to pay for the parking.

  • eduardo

Open 24/7 and very affordable. Good equipment and plenty of cardio machines. Lately, it is too crowded most of the time. Lockers need and update or some repairing.

  • J

It's a good and well equipped gym but it can get very busy at peak times, and there could be better toilet facilities overnight when they shut the changing rooms.

  • Jake Jefferies

So far so good, I've only been twice so far as I'm new to the gym but so far there is alot of selection with equipment free most of the time so I'm happy with it.

  • Jack Smith

plenty of equipment but it's too hot in the gym, I don't like how the freeweights are unorganized, and the hygiene is questionable, but you get what you pay for

  • Will Baron

A very well equipped gym (no pool or other wet area), with decent changing rooms and showers. This one in the Harbourside is less busy than the one in town too.

  • Christy Lane

Nice gym for women as a good split of people in the gym. Been going for a year and had zero creepy interactions. Lots of equipment and nobody staring at you.

  • Michael Quinn

Excellent selection of equipment, nice environment to workout in, gets busy between 5pm-7pm, but you can always find equipment to use. Good gym, good price.

  • Kyle Pelchy

If you're looking for a new gym, pick this gym entirely for the views of the Harbourside! Equipment, trainers, and other gym goers are great as well.

  • Kris Bee

Way too busy seems like they are always doing promo codes so the gym has a high number of people here all the time. 10am weekdays can be ok

  • Levente Papp

Great gym but the calf press still horrible. They should do something with that. Not working well. And just two weight benches?? Really??

  • Matt Griffiths

Big, modern, loads of equipment and cheap. What more could you want. Yes it gets busy at peak times but where doesn't. Would recommend.

  • dimitri bishop

Awesome atmosphere, friendly and polite staff and great equipment. Plenty of room for social distancing as well as cleaning stations.

  • Gavin Cooper

Fantastic gym. Lots of equipment, friendly staff. Usually easy to find the machine or weights you want. Avoid peak times 5:30-6:30pm

  • Rebecca Lefevre

Absolutely love this gym, lots of equipment and machines to use even when busy. Staff are super friendly & really enjoy the classes!

  • Magdalena Pancewicz

Classes are great, staff is super kind but the cleanness is pretty bad. Studio floor is often dirty and I would not shower there.

  • Ella Hogg

Lovely clean gym with lots of staff on hand to help or give advice. Always a pleasant atmosphere, not competitive. Love it here.

  • K McClean

They cancel your membership at the drop of a hat; I was prepared to pay my membership but they just cancelled it for no reason.

  • Jon Barbee

Use this Pure Gym a lot. Good range of equipment and very clean! Avoid peak times because it does get very busy, like all gyms.

  • Nick

Good facility and open 24/7, membership fee is also very affordable. Downside is it gets quite busy from the afternoon onward.

  • Angus Jeffrey (Jeff)

Great place. Lots of heavy stuff to lift and put down. Has a water fountain. There are cardio machines, which I tend to avoid.

  • Boiarinov Bogdan

It would be a 5 star review, but unfortunately those elevators stop working every few months and as well the vending machines

  • Shaun

Good variety of equipment and friendly staff, but as with all gyms it is packed at peak hours. Good prices with student rates

  • Matthew Horner

Staff and equipment are good! Only concern is the leg press machine that's a bit old and doesn't seem in the best condition

  • Matt Edmond

Always Clean. Always friendly staff. Always feel welcome and safe. The best views you could hope for from a cross trainer.

  • Isobel S

Fine, basic gym, and good if you're looking for something cheap, but gets unbearably busy in peak hours (5-7pm, weekends).

  • Emma Daniels

Really nice gym good equipment nice to have a quieter section upstairs for those of us not comfortable in busy downstairs
