I was in at Christmas shopping for my wife. I was in the store shortly after opening so there’s were not to many customers in the store, but plenty of staff. I went to the women’s section but felt as if I was in a foreign land. I looked around for someone to help, but nobody was to be found. Another woman shopping in the section needed the dressing room opened, so she had to push the call button. A staff member showed up opened the door, and then left. I made plenty of commotion and spoke clearly to the staff member that then ignored me, did absolutely nothing to help, or get other staff. I then went to the front of the store to get a staff member to no avail. I found three staff members standing at the registers, I said to them “I guess nobody wants to work today?” One staff member turned to me and said “nope” then turned his back to me. I then found the manager , she did nothing to help. Not only was she not helpful but then told me I should leave the store. I help, nothing. I’ve been in the store since then, hoping that maybe it was a fluke. It was not. The only person that I spoke with the second time said he remembered me from the last time and became incredibly rude and said he was one of the individuals as the registers and chose not to help. I have reached out to the district manager and corporate, I have not heard anything. REI once upon a time was a great company that cared about helping its members, they tried to keep the stores with a wide variety of gear to assist you with whatever is needed. Now the store is no different than a Big 5 or Dick’s. Don’t waste your money with REI anymore, they are almost always more expensive and you can get better gear from any number of vendors that actual want your business. Just to add I have been a member for 20 years and my father before me a member as long as I can remember. This is no longer the company I grew up with.

Summary: Impressed with COVID protocol. Handled anti-masker well. Thankful to the employees for keeping the shoppers safe! I went to the store to return something I had purchased online. There was a line outside to go in, due to capacity restrictions. There was a REI employee outside manning the door, making sure everyone who went in had masks on, and that the capacity rules were being followed. The man in the line in front of me tried to go in without a mask. He was stopped and told he was required to wear a mask to go in. The man said he wasn't able, due to medical reasons (he did not expand). They called a manager out and she confirmed that it was company policy, and required by everyone who went in. Despite his griping and calling her "brainwashed", he used a mask to go inside and was then quickly asked to leave (I presume) when he almost immediately came back outside for not complying. I was really impressed by the way the REI employees handled the situation. They were very respectful and did a good job and making sure the situation didn't escalate. And I'm thankful that they're requiring masks to keep everyone safer.

Just WOW! Super helpful staff and knowledgeable. I’m a curvy Black woman and new to hiking. I asked for jackets that covered my bum and Karen was not afraid to dive in and help me with style and sizing. Even asked if I was comfortable with men’s jackets just to see if I liked the style and fit better. Colleen was super helpful and patient as I tried on shoes and understood why I was returning the ones received online. She made other suggestions and I found a pair I LOVE!! Joe gave me alll the deals. It was such a great experience that I’m more than okay with shopping in store and not online here!!! I can’t wait to come back and use my $20 cash!!! Thanks for being willing to help and answering my questions as I learn all about my new found passion of hiking. Great store and great staff!!!

We relocated from Michigan to DAVIDSON a little over two years ago. We always enjoyed going to the REI in Northville Michigan. So glad we have a location in North Charlotte that is pretty convenient. I enjoy being a member and also using their credit card to score more points. Over the summer they added a lovely made in Portland Oregon bike basket & a cute bell on my Cannondale. The people in the bike repair area are pretty awesome! And Michelle up at checkout is personable and just a pleasure to deal with. You still have time before Christmas. Head up to this REI and get some really nice camping equipment and start some new adventures next Summer!

Shout out to Mike who works over in the camping gear section. I have a Kelty backpack I have used a couple of times that is very nice but I was ready to get rid of it because I thought it was too big for me and was causing a lot of pain in my shoulders. I heard REI could “fit” you for a pack and possibly adjust it. So before I sold it thought I would give it a shot. Mike started adjusting straps up and down and then after showing me how to self adjust a couple other straps and loading me up to backpacking weight it feels like a totally different pack! Thank you Mike for the help and REI for being a great resource.

I went into REI to buy hiking shoes. The shoe area is cordoned off and you have to ask an associate to help you. I have never experienced such service in buying shoes as I did at REI. The sales associate with so knowledgeable. He measured every aspect of my foot including length, width, Arch height, etc. His recommendation was spot on. The shoes fit me like a glove. I tried on other shoes and they did not feel like me nearly as well as the shoe he had recommended to me. He also had me do some fit tests to make sure that the shoes fit me properly. I would highly recommend REI for outdoor pursuit shoe purchases.

Update 02/2022 - went in to get a down hiking coat, had great help picking from several options. Highly recommend this REI Knowledgeable and helpful staff make getting outfitted for the outdoors a pleasure. I had a great experience getting a new pair of hiking boots. After measuring and looking at my feet, he recommended a couple brands and styles of boots to me, the first pair he brought out fit just right. Of course I tried on several more pair, but his first suggestion was spot on and I just completed my second 4 mile moderate hike. Highly recommend this REI.

Super Staff - They answered all the questions I had concerning new hiking shoes! They were patient, and informative. I didn't sense any frustration, or hurried anxiety from the staff. I settled on a pair, and have nothing but good things to say about my choice. I may have paid a bit more than online, but the help I received was worth the few extra dollars. Another note - It is a great store to just walk around in, and look at things - You might find something you didn't even know you needed!

Great selection and the return policy is excellent although I rarely use it. Just knowing I have a retailer that is out to make sure I'm satisfied makes me buy more stuff though. I still hit up the bike shops for my major cycling gear but I buy energy bars, clothing from here. I've also purchased all my fitness trackers from here as they usually one of the first places to get the new products in stock. Staff is excellent and willing to help you find the right item for you.

Very helpful staff! They are composed of people experienced with camping (or other outdoor activity), so you benefit from their expertise! I had 30 different items I needed to buy for my daughter's camping trip and I was helped with everything. The prices are a little higher than Amazon, but they have a great return policy on most items, where if they tear or break within a year, they will replace it (with lifetime membership of $20 or email that receipt).

We came here tonight for new shoes. I was so impressed with Grace who helped us in the shoe department. She was incredibly patient and knowledgeable about the options. My husband and I both work on our feet and are picky with shoes so we tried on quite a few pair and before we knew it it was time for the store to close. She did not make us feel rushed and provided a great shopping experience even though we felt bad for being there past closing.

HUGE compliment for my REI store off of north lake mall rd in Charlotte NC. They never fail to exceed in customer service. Laurie was most helpful today. I had a second order I had placed and instead of having to make two trips she did everything she could to consolidate it to one. Thank you for making life easier and more adventurous. Excellent. I had the best experience on the phone and in the store. The gentleman who answered the phone and waited on me was exceptional. He had excellent knowledge and answered all my questions. He fit me with shoes that were designed for my feet. He understood what I needed and made my experience so special. I am so grateful for this amazing employee he went above and beyond for me. I have never had anything other than stellar customer service here. During my most recent visit (today) Chad absolutely knocked it out the park. He showed me not what I was looking for but what I needed and saved me 100s of dollars on the setup I was trying to achieve. Had I followed the path I was on I would have made a costly mistake. Chad thank you!! Once again, this store proves why I drive here first for my camping needs.

Went into the store to buy my son all the things he needs to go backpacking with Boy Scouts for a long weekend. After waiting for 25 minutes for someone to help us, we left. Very disappointed in the employees who preferred to ignore us instead of help us. We even walked up to employees and asked for help while at the hiking backpacks and no one showed up. There were plenty of employees walking around who were not busy.

Went in looking for a bike for my triathlon. 2 different people were doing a great job letting me know what kind of bikes I should look for, what brands (high and low cost) are reliable/they get good feedback on. Really walked me through the process with ease. Left there with a bike a really like (low end of my price range) and with the accessories that I wanted without ever feeling pressured. My girlfriend has to return some stuff and didn't have the receipt for one that she purchased on her account. The staff was very friendly and took their time helping her as they cleared things up. When she had a question about a bottle she wanted to purchase afterward, 3 employees came from all sides of the store to help. Pleasant atmosphere and cool gadgets for the outdoors at reasonable prices.

I tried to leave a review but of course it gets shadow banned. Very rude employees here. I was asked intrusive and inappropriate questions about my personal life. I do not need to answer personal questions to shop here nor do I need my appearance nit picked by some mean attendant getting off on tearing other people down so he can feel superior. That is not how you treat other people.

We are a fan of the REI brand, this is the first store we have visited that has no second level, I believe we like this layout. Not having to go up stairs to go to a different department. The location is good with plenty of parking. The staff is very helpful and plenty are around to help. There are plenty of items in stock and sizes as well. Looking forward to visiting more often.

I purchased a day pack about two years ago, and the zipper broke within 6 months, with not that many uses. I tried to deal with it, as I live about 3 hours from a store. I attempted to exchange/return the item, but was told that I was outside the1 year return limit. I have bought a lot of REI in the past, but certainly not the REI gear quality or customer service I expected.

Best gear around BUT at a premium price. Best return policy anywhere. Everyone in store is very helpful and generally love where they work. When only the best will do. Still love thie store but depending on your starting point, you might check the Pineville store, it's absolutely worth the extra 5 to 10 minutes driving. This location is half the size of the Pineville store.

Very good customer service! Called me the next day to let me know I didn't need the tune up and informed me about brake pads I knew were bad. They offered to keep my bike one more day and replace the pads for a decent price. Thought I was gonna pay 105, but ended up paying 45! Be warned there is a customer limit so you may have to wait outside a few minutes.

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff! This location also has a huge selection compared to the other REI nearby. My husband and I stopped in to get fitted for hiking packs and Alex helped us and answered all of our questions and had helpful suggestions. He made our shopping trip much easier and will for sure be back to this location for our hiking needs.

Friendly, knowledgeable, actively helpful staff. Plenty of parking. Great return policy. Not the least expensive place to shop, but you are shopping among premium name brands in most cases. In most major categories of outdoor adventure sports and related clothing they stock a decent range of merchandise. Convenient online site to store options too.

Can’t say enough great things about this place. The staff is incredible. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The classes are very informative also. Definitely sign up for the membership. It’ll pay for itself after the first members garage sale. And the most admiral aspect of this company is how they stand behind the products they sell.

I have trouble finding good fitting shoes. So I am SO happy I went to REI after trying several other shoe places, and every shoes place at the Premier Outlets. Jay and Mary were VERY knowledgeable about their product, and patient with me as I tried on quite a few pairs before finding the right ones. Great store with wonderful staff.

I have never met such friendly and helpful staff ANYWHERE. Everyone was incredibly attentive, walked me & my boyfriend through membership (also totally worth it), and made the whole shopping trip so easy before we went on our hike for the day. Fantastic service. Great ideas and the teams here show real interest in their service to clients. I got Thule vector Cargo box/rack ordered -installed here and they were pretty helpful in navigating through the situation. They were able to remember the phone interactions that I had the previous day as well.

Wife and I purchased two e-bikes at REI Northlake. The staff in the bike department were fantastic with a special shout-out to mechanic Darrin. He came out of the shop to answer all our questions and patiently described each bike we were looking at. In the end he made the sale and we are very satisfied.

I have been to several REI stores on the east coast. This store has great sales associates. I have had the best experiences with the knowledgeable, helpful, sincere staff, especially in the hiking shoe department. These guys know their gear. You can buy your gear in confidence.

The staff goes out of their way to help. Zach in at the bike section was incredibly friendly and helpful; he even helped us carry our bike all the way to the parking lot. He gave us lots of great advice on accessories. We couldn't be happier with the customer service!

Jenn is the bomb! She is friendly, knowledgeable, and patient! In early May, she worked with me for over a hour to ensure my new day pack choice (Gregory Jade 28) was the best possible fit for me and my needs! The new pack has been fabulous.....just like Jenn!!!

Staff were helpful as always at REI. However, it is a smaller store compared to others I've been in with smaller selection and stock. They can still certainly help you get measurements and find out what you need for online orders.

This is the store for High Dollar Performance Gear. The best you can buy for any outdoor adventure. I check the Garage Sales for open box and return bargains, best pair shoes I ever bought were open box from REI!

Fantastic staff and fantastic products. Very knowledgeable sales staff helps me get the right equipment. If your shoes don't fit, you have a year to return them, which can be a life saver for expensive footwear.
