Originally, we were going to eat at a BBQ place around the corner and they were closed that day. So we tried a second option, same problem, they were closed that day as well. So we just decided to walk a bit until we found a different option. Came across this place. We knew nothing of it, nor had we heard of it prior. But, adventure with new places to eat at is always on our list, so we walked in. It was lunch time during the week and not between 12-1, so the place was pretty empty and we got a table right away. Running down the menu, it seemed a bit pricier than other places in the region, but it could also be due to higher quality or also due to adjoining to a hotel. Regardless, we were there to try. Upon deciding what we wanted to try, we asked for recommendations, and our waiter said the Brussel Sprouts were very good, and he’s not even a Brussel Sprout person. We both like Brussel Sprouts, so sounded like a winner to us. As a result, we opted to just get simple burgers and fries since we were also getting an appetizer. While waiting, they brought out a couple little delicious blueberry muffins that were warm, and quite good. Sp that was a happy start. Then the sprouts came out. Simply put….. amazing. He gave great advice. They appeared to be flash fried perhaps with some slivered almonds and maybe some other items. They were incredible. It was a large bowl of them, and we both agreed that we would have been delighted to just have ordered one bowl each, and made that our sole meal. They were that good. Now, they burgers and fries were also good. Nothing to complain about there either. I would enjoy having them again. But I also think we’d still both be content in just having a large bowl each of those sprouts and calling it good. Since then, we have tried similar sprouts at other places (we ate here 3-4 months ago), and although some were very good, none have topped the ones here yet. So, if you like sprouts, you must try them. I’m sure you’ll like the rest of your meal as well, as we did, but you are missing out if you don’t try the sprouts as well. We look forward to the next time we are in town so we can get these again.

I would just like to start by saying I have the utmost respect for servers. Working minimum wage can be challenging and dealing with difficult customers daily can be stressful. It was after Lunch and before dinner so the restaurant was empty. Today was my brothers graduation from medical school and our family just wanted to get some coffee and dessert. The hostess was a sweet girl she sat us at the table and got us all a glass of water and told us our waitress would be there soon. The waitress told us she would be there soon with our coffee. We waited 30 minutes just to order the coffee my mother asked if there was nondairy milk and the waitress abruptly said no, we don’t have anything but heavy whipping cream! A no would have been fine but the way it was delivered was unnecessary and then she never came back to take our order for dessert. When we finally flagged her down we asked for a menu and she told us “no menu” and then listed the three desserts they serve. We asked for one of each a chocolate mudslide, carrot cake, cheesecake and some plates to share. About 20 minutes later she threw the desserts on the table. The mudslide looked like 3 crumbles and whipped cream. The “cheesecake” was three HARD crackers with cream in between. It took an immense amount of force to even crack it. The carrot cake had a green tint in the middle of the crumbles and a strange taste. When she came back to ask how the food was my grandmother told her the desserts were not edible and asked her to please tell the chef we were disappointed. The waitress replied saying she feels like she’s being attacked and my grandmother told her I’d just like the chef to know that they can’t keep serving this food. She told us as a whole we were “being aggressive” and that it’s not her fault she’s just a “low man on the totem pole.” She ended up taking off one dessert from the bill and telling us to “have a nice day.” Overall it was poor service, bad food, and lack of respect on the servers part. At the end of the day We were just a nice family trying to celebrate a momentous moment in what ended up being the WRONG place. Down below is the mudslide, carrot cake, and cheese cake.

Totally disappointed. Three, maybe four stars for only my steak. I understand the state of things but the overall mood was "meh". Our appetizer of chips & queso was average. Cheese was spicy & not over powering. Chips were warmed. The salad was heavily salted and my mashed potatoes was much left to be desired. The creamy gravy had an "flour", slightly gritty aftertaste and the side dish got cold quickly. The presentation was definitely not representation of a fine dining establishment and came across as an after thought. The "Grandma Ice Tea" was a total waste of money & time. I squeezed the lemon in my mixed drink hoping to add more flavor - still, nothing. Definitely nothing special. Perhaps the bartender should've been more focused on his alcohol/mix measurements more than his constant loud conversation with the girl sitting the bar alone. It literally turned out to be pointless. There were two blueberry (scones?) Muffins brought to our table, while they were good, no explanation of the spread that accompanied it. My date & I were left guessing. My dates steak tacos were average. The steak cubes looked dry but nevertheless, he ate them anyways. Just don't understand, we were one of maybe 3 or 4 tables being served and a handful of people at the bar. Our food took almost 30 minutes to arrive to the table. Just as a side note, there's a huge miscommunication between Embassy Suites Hotel valet payment. We were told to give our parking ticket to our server & pay with our meal then give the receipt to the valet. Wrong. After spending a good ten to fifteen minutes walking back & fourth between Range, valet & then finally to discover that valet payment was to be done at the hotel check-in counter was just adding insult to injury. Nevertheless, $113 later a two star rating is being generous. I believe (according to my research about the owner) things can be SO much better. Quality over quantity was not the case here. Please fix this!

I post reviews as a "pay it forward" attitude for all those who have posted reviews which have helped me. Thanks! #1 Service The service was phenomenal. Steven was friendly, professional, on top of everything, anticipating everything, and we were both entirely impressed. Even when we thought he couldn't do more, he did. #2 Ambience The atmosphere was nice, the music was just the right volume, no need to speak up, etc. The one surprise problem was a dirty butter knife under our table. Since we were the first of the night to use that table, it must have been from the night before or perhaps longer. #3 Appetizers/Salads The deviled eggs were pretty good but paled in comparison to the hush puppies. They were definitely the best dish of the night. The champagne dressing wasn't as good as the lemon dressing but the salad itself was better than the range chopped salad which could use some improvements as far as presentation/colors (darker lettuce would make the cashews, cucumber and tomatoes pop. Everything had a yellowish green color. I definitely regret not ordering the salad with chévere and pecans. #4 Entree The main dish was a delicious large portion of wagyu meatloaf. Good texture, and thick, generous portion of tangy sauce. The sides were tasty enough, but I'd have preferred one of the sides wasn't a pile of mush for presentation, texture, and balance. #5 Dessert Finally the dessert. This was disappointing especially because I always save room for dessert and the set menu we ordered from only had a single option - mud pie. Presentation was a hot mess, but that was probably intended as the "mud". The whip cream tasted real and delicious, but the brownie-esque pile of chocolate "dirt" wasn't offering what I wanted in texture or flavor. The salad and dessert along with a dirty knife under our table are mainly what took it from a 4 to a 3 for me.

I was less than impressed by the food. The fried calamari was stringy...every bite. I'm not sure what that's about. You can tell it's breaded fresh, but the stringy thing ruined it for me. I had the half-chicken, it may have been cooked, but the skin was too rubbery. It could have used some more cooking. I only ate one wing and took the rest with us. I doubt I'm even going to eat it. I might, but it'll need more time in the oven or to have the skin removed. The food, main meal, came just minutes after we started into the calamari. You'd think they'd give you time to enjoy the appetizer before your main dish arrived. Maked me believe the food was sitting in warming trays waiting to be served. I'm disappointed, especially for a restaurant that can charge better than average prices. Cotton candy was the best part. Oh, but that didn't require kitchen skills. If invited to go again, it's a hard pass.

This restaurant is located inside a downtown hotel. No one parks for free downtown. The parking lot in front of the hotel isn't cheap. Try to grab a street meter if you can. There's a city parking garage (most reasonably priced) about 2-3 blocks away at the corner of St Mary's street.

In my 50 years of life, I have eaten many steak dinners. I can confidently say, without reservation, that Chef Jason Dady created a savory masterpiece for me on 9/4. It was almost a religious experience. That's a pretty large compliment to back up, so let me get right to it. I am a fast eater. That trait comes from my military background. Once I pick up my eating utensils, I don't put them down till the food is gone or until I'm full. I don't even set them down to take a drink of my beverage. The filet mignon Chef prepared for me practically melted in my mouth. The seasoning covered my lips with its savory punch and made me want to lick them after every bite. I literally put both my fork and knife down after each bite in order to pause and savor the full flavor. Anything less would have been an insult to the meal itself. I would take a drink of water after a bite or two so I could minimize the existing seasoning on my palette and re-experience the decadence of the next bite. The asparagus? Rarely do I enjoy this vegetable. What Chef made was undeniable. I had to consume every single stalk. Petite Filet Mignon, asparagus, peach Italian soda, and water. To call this a meal is actually insulting. It is 100% an experience. And for the money? You won't find a better deal. It's taken me 50 years to find this one.

Terrible service. They sat us down right away. They took our drink orders, and they took about an hour before we got our drinks. And took even longer to give us our food. They didn't even give us everything we ordered. I had ordered a margherita pizza . I asked the waitress when I'd get my pizza and she lied, told me it was still in the oven. But then she came back to ask me what I had ordered because they forgot to make it. We told them to not make the pizza after all and then they made it anyways. I only ate 1 slice before I got full and I was sick most of the night. I would never come back. The waitress didn't even seem apologetic for her errors. The manager did try to reconcile the terrible service by comping our food but after getting sick, it wasn't worth while. They even offered a free dessert in addition to comping our food, and we waited for that but we never received it after another 30 minutes of waiting so we walked out. The restaurant wasn't even that busy to warrant those waiting times. Many of the staff were just standing around. We were there for about 3 hours before we got our initial food order.

When we arrived with our reservation, it took 20 minutes to get out table ready..which when you are downtown, it's normally because you are going somewhere afterwards. The entire restaurant smelled like smoke and had a haze. Also, while seated, there were at least 4 tables around us that never got bussed. I feel bad for the waitstaff, they look exhausted and overwhelmed. The food was good, not worth the high price, but it is downtown. The calimari is mixed with zucchini, which is quite deceptive and made with corn meal..which is a unique choice. The Bolognese was good but cold on the outside and warm on the outside. If you want bread, you have to pay per a piece...and it comes charred, but good. Crispy fried brussel sprouts were bitter and not crispy at all. The pizza was super thin and not too bad.

Wow what a bad experience!! I am a huge Jardin fan so I thought this sister restaurant would be a great idea for Christmas Eve dinner. WRONG! They sat us in a horrible seat, in the corner, away from everyone, by a door that was open to the outside. The waitress was nice but the service was horrible. It was not her fault though… how could service be good when she has 10 tables?! They ran out of bisque by 6pm so I had to get an inedible salad that was obliterated by pepper. It then took us over an hour after our first course to get our second. It came cold and was clearly sitting around. The third course came out about three minutes after starting our second course. All the vegetable were colder than the second course!! The desert was hard and tasted stale. For almost $200 I expect WAY MORE! Save yourself some money and go to McDonalds. At least you will get hot food!

Went here on a Thursday at 5pm, party of 2. We had the Parmesan fries to start, cheese was fantastic and the aoili was good. Fries seemed like the cheap frozen kind and slightly undercooked. He had the filet minion ordered medium and asparagus. The steak was well beyond medium and the asparagus were tough, probably because they were huge. I had the rib-eye ordered medium rare and green beans. I believe that the meat from Texas Roadhouse is actually better. Everything was over seasoned so it all pretty much tasted the same. The sear on both steaks was top notch. Ambience is ok but you can’t actually see the river walk and the music was too loud with the upper and lower levels competing with each other. Overall….for the price I wouldn’t go for the steaks.

Fine dining experience it is not. Made reservations, checked in, host couldn’t remember checking us in or who we were. The waitress acted more like she worked at a fast food restaurant. Too casual. She was very nice. Lighting too bright. Forget romantic dinner, too loud. Salmon, green beans, and cauliflower were really good. Half chicken too dry. Potatoes that are served with every entree are too over seasoned. No bread is served with meal unless you pay for it. Our waitress couldn’t tell us what we were paying for so we passed. Meal with tip was over $82.00. No alcohol, just water, no bread, no extras, just salmon, green beans, cauliflower, half chicken and the potatoes. Disappointed. Doubt we will be back.

Overall, we really enjoyed this place for dinner. The service was a bit slow, but they seemed backed up with a huge Saturday evening rush. Dinner was excellent, and the attention to detail was apparent in the plating. I had the tiramisu, which could have been better. Seemed like it was not assembled to order as the ladyfingers were soaked for way too long in espresso. I would recommend the fritto misto, a really good appetizer. Also, my daughter's filet was cooked perfectly and probably the best I have tried in a while. It would have been nice if the tables were a little more intimate. They seemed close together and seemed a bit crowded. It's definitely worth coming here if you stay at this property. Just be sure to make reservations for the weekend.

I am not sure where to begin, other than I would not recommend this restaurant. SERVICE - Simply put amateurish, wait staff dropped their trays on three different occasions during our meal. When food arrived from the kitchen staff wandered around the tables trying to determine where it belonged. Once at the table, they had to ask who each meal belonged to. Waiter was not attentive, did not check on our meal until after 10 minutes. FOOD: Every course was bad. The salad had an excessive amount of cracked pepper. The overpowering pepper made it inedible. Our steaks were overcooked, gray and dry. My wife's filet arrived with the string still wrapped around it. Green beans were not snapped....are you kidding?

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience at Range this evening. We have been longtime customers. We regularly come here before our shows at the Majestic. This afternoon we ordered our food at 6:05 pm. No food, no updates for over 45 minutes. Then we inquired and still nothing. Not even salad. Finally by 6:55pm the bartender told us they would pack it "to go" but said the food was ready. It was not. It took another 15 min (so over 1 hr after ordering) just to take our food to go and stick it in the car. No food before the show. I understand mistakes occur. But someone should have updated us, apologized, or something. It was awful and I don't think a good representation of what Jason Dady wants in his restaurants

We had a group of us going to the Majestic and made reservations a month ago. Some ordered the Beef and mushroom pizza and it came owith out with only mushrooms. I ordered the Black Truffle Glazed Chicken with potatoes and Brussel Sprouts. Never got the potatoes and the chicken breast was very dry! The Brussel Sprouts were the best thing I ate. We have all decided to never go back. The service was good....kept our water glasses full. It appears the kitchen staff was really off tonight!!!!

Only thing that was good was the meatloaf. Got food poisoning from pizza. Bread and tomatoes was maybe $4 to make but cost $15. Just a simple slice of bread with some tomatoes thrown on there. Waited an hour for our drinks. Waited another hour for food and even had to wait even longer for our pizza because the waitress forgot to write it down. Terrible service. Wasted 3 hours of time for some food worse than chipotle. They offered us a cake to compensate for our terrible time there. Waited another 30 minutes for the complementary cake before we got up and left. Not waiting another hour because they messed up.

Great food and service!! We were staying at the Hotel Valencia and wanted to eat dinner within walking distance and Range is right across the street. I wanted a Mexican lager and our waiter George suggested Alamo Beer on a Stick. It was really good. For starters we had fresh Gulf oysters and tortilla chips with queso blanco..both were delicious. For our main course we had the beef tenderloin medium with broccoli and potatoes and the spaghetti with beef bolengse. The steak was cooked just right! Both meals were amazing. The bill was just over $100 for two of us and we'll worth it. Definitely recommend a visit if your in the area.

Located in the Hilton Embassy suites on the Riverwalk convenient blocks away from the most popular and dense part of the riverwalk, where they're booked up for hours. So it was great to have this spot located in the hotel we were staying in, it was quiet and quaint. Delicious food, the waiters are very attentive, the atmosphere nice. Plus it’s all at an affordable price. Can totally recommend it and will definitely come back again.

If you ever get a chance to get to the Riverwalk in San Antonio, you must stop by range. Love the atmosphere and the vibe. I will warn you now. It is a little on the pricier side but I believe it's worth it. I ordered the wagyu beef meatloaf with the carrots and a Caesar salad which was made table side but I honestly can't find anything wrong with it. The food was great. It came out actually quicker than we expected and the desserts were delicious. And if you're not in the mood for a sit down table dinner you can just sit at the bar, Have a drink and relax after a long day of walking the Riverwalk.

We've eaten here the last two nights. Food is good - great, but the service is lacking on both nights. The first night the Brussels sprouts were perfect, in fact, the best I've ever had. Tonight they were greasy and overly salty. Nowhere near as crisp. My husband enjoyed his Lodge Salads both nights. The Mississippi Mud Pie was basically deconstructed. It was a different spin on it. Pretty good. If they fix their service they'd be really a great place.

Had the filet cooked perfectly at medium. Great salt char around the steak. In addition, my wife had the pumpkin and butternut aquash risotto. I was very skeptical about the risotto, but it was very flavorful. In fact, pairing it with my steak had a great salt and sweet component that made my taste buds want more. 9 dollars to valet and a great meal makes this a win for downtown cuisine!

We stopped in for a snack during Happy Hour. It's a warm and inviting atmosphere with views of the river. The staff is friendly and professional. The drinks were perfectly prepared. And the food was too. Note: we found the olives were best eaten by biting them in half instead of popping them into your mouth whole. If you eat them whole, the blue cheese gets lost. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Have not visited this restaurant, but was behind three of their wait staff in an establishment near RANGE. (They were wearing their outfits with their aprons.) The three of them were speaking poorly of their “manager” and they had poor attitudes. I would not eat anything they served me it’s a shame because I was looking forward to having steaks.

Decided to check out this new place, atmosphere was nice, you can see the river, the staff was great. We ordered the mushrooms as appetizer and I was surprised how good they were.
