I went to Red Star Saturday (June 26) with my partner and another couple for dinner and drinks. The food was decent, I had the Farro salad. My partner and I had pork sliders and mini burgers. All tasted good, nothing incredible but overall it was decent. The patio is nice, shaded with umbrellas. Unfortunately, that's where the experience ended. The service was pretty awful. For whatever reason, 3 servers were serving all 10 tables together. You would think that it would make the service better as someone would come by your table every 3 minutes to see if you needed anything. The servers did not communicate with each other or with the bar either. 5 drinks and 1 meal we ordered throughout the night never showed. Every round of drinks would have someone's missing. And what did eventually come to our table was wrong. We worried how messed up our bill would be and we were right to be. The first bill we got was for $600 between the 4 of us (the proper bill once amended for all was around $250). The server came back again with amended bills and there were still 3 random drinks on there that none of us had even attempted to order. She amended them again and told us she comped a drink on each of our bills but our bills were so messed up we felt like we ended up paying the same anyway. It would make more sense if servers owned their section rather than wandering around asking everyone if they want to order... and then not bringing anything. It's honestly a shame since the patio and food are decent, but we won't be back.

@redstaryeg #redstaryeg Pub/restaurant/coffee shop/music lounge a few stair steps below Jasper Ave and 105th street. You can’t miss the big red star. Pub entrance after 5pm is to the left. It’s my love affair between the perfect ambience, food quality and exceptional service experience.⁣ The authenticity and hospitality served up with some intelligent conversation is unlike anything else. ⁣ From the perfect lighting, classic wood interior, sound of music and cozy warmth of the room temperature…this is my number one for peace, connection, work and contemplation. ⁣ A coffee shop by day, pub into the evening and music lounge experience on weekend nights, they serve up impeccable service and have an unequivocal vibe. ⁣ Their newly renovated washrooms are heavenly, and the COVID-19 precautionary measures are perfected down to a tee. ⁣ I highly recommend frequent visits, however their take out and pick up is just as tasty as the dine in. A visit here will surely soothe your soul, no matter what time or day of the week (except for Sunday and Monday...they are closed to take a breather)⁣

We arrived around 6 pm yesterday and were greeted by Stella at the front door. She offered to take us to their "super secret patio" and we agreed. Up the stairs and to the right was a cute, private patio. Our high top table was a bit wobbly so, Stella offered for us to switch tables. We had wine and the chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. All the staff were friendly and helped one another. Stella was by far one of the best servers I've ever had. She was genuine and hilarious. What a great experience. Thank you!

Best vibes during the week and bower next door is the best Friday and Saturday nights in the city hands down. First Wednesday of every month it's Jamaican vibes and Jamaican good night. Not at all a Jamaican crowd but music is light and dj is great. Food is amazing, try either jerk chicken or chicken roti and you'll be happy you did. Great night and place to meet people or have a few drinks with friends.

After leaving another establishment due to lack of service, we ended up at the Red Star. What a wonderful turn of events! The service was amazing all around. Our server Morgan was a breath of fresh air after a crappy start to the evening. We will be back when we are staying in Edmonton again and will recommend the Red Star to all of our friends who happen to be in the area as well.

Place was full on a Tuesday night at 6pm. Left restaurant upstairs to come here. Good atmosphere but seemed understaffed. Sat at the bar. Buy at bar have good advice on menu, which is developed by Corso 32, a really good local Italian restaurant. Local beer was good. Had the pork pasta. Served in tomato based sauce. It was really good. Not too acidic / aggressive. Very enjoyable.

Drinks are good. Staff is friendly. The food, while not cheap, is well worth the price. This place attracts a great clientele too. Making friends and networking here are not unwise things to do. One thing alone though, stands out over all of Redstar's qualities: the music selection. There is not dance floor, which is a crime, but sha-bam do they play some groovy groovy music.

Red Star is my favorite spot downtown, the food is fantastic and the drinks are great. My fiancé and I go here regularly, their after work appetizers hit the spot and if you're looking for drinks it's the spot to be. We love the truffle salad and the ricotta pasta, they have a small menu, but everything on it is very well done. Great location, great service and great vibes.

Went to this pub as it is located just 500 meters from my front door. Could have been my new neighbourhood pub. Sat for 20 minutes until finally going to the bar. Where I was also ignored. They were busy. But seriously. No eye contact while 5 bartenders are scurrying around. Gave up and tried another pub. Never did get a drink. Much less food. Lol

  • Findlay MacDermid

Sat there for a few minutes but it was unclear if anyone was working or how one would procure food or drink. Very odd. It did look like a nice place but how it could be so short staffed at noon on a Friday was a real mystery. I rate my experience as thoroughly confusing because it did seem like a nice place. I'll give it another try later I guess.

Local hidden gem. Friendliest staff. Small menu for food, which doesn't matter because all bases are covered and every option is a banger. I would say this place is almost too cool for a dirt like me but it's so unpretentious, that I've never felt out of place. You want to chill out in good company and easy going vibes? This is the spot.

  • Kaden Scott

Let me tell you how immaculate the vibe at this pub is .. they have this live DJ that plays nothing but bangers that make you wanna move and groove.... They have this chicken sandwich that literally melts in your mouth when you bite it. This one.specific sandwich put me in a straight food coma for am hour and a half ..

This place has had an upgrade since I had been there last. Not that I didn't like it before, but it has been classed up a bit, it's in basement level which gives a cool vibe, the cocktails are fantastic, and the bartender was top notch. If you're in the Edmonton downtown area I think it's a must check out.

  • Eric Myers

One of my favourite spots in all of Edmonton. Happened to randomly come into this place before a concert at the Bower last year and I'm so glad I did. The staff (especially Kenna) are so friendly, kind, and great. The vibe in Red Star is maybe the best in all of Edmonton. I can't wait to come back again!

  • C M

My favourite bar in Edmonton, stopped here last night after a show at The Starlite Room, and was very well taken care of by bartender Renee! All the staff were lovely though, good selection of spirits and beer, intimate atmosphere but not claustrophobic. A local gem hiding in plain sight on Jasper Ave.

  • Richard Dillingham

An establishment branded after The Red Star. My companion and I assumed there would be live readings of the Communist Manifesto and Russian 60s pop music playing. There is no communism here. The staff are really friendly and attentive. They have brass buffalo coat hooks. All about the cured meat!

  • John Cole

Menu is simple, but the food is excellent quality. Can't get enough of the Pork Crostini in particular, but everything we've tried is delicious. Staff are friendly yet professional, with a great knowledge of the food and drink options. Bonus is that they've finally managed to open a patio.

  • Levi K

Speakeasy vibes, cool environment if you can get a seat. It was so busy when I was there, shoulder to shoulder packed.

Great pub, a pretty good atmosphere, though it does get a bit too loud sometimes from the music on friday/saturday nights, where you realise you are not going to be able to speak to your friend sitting next to you, until there is a lull in the song. Could turn down the music just a tad.

  • Leif Gee

Outstanding service and food make this a must go to stopping point, or a new home away from home. All too often the actual feel of a "public house" is non-existent these days. Not so at Red Star Pub. You'll instantly be made to feel at home and be delighted by an outstanding menu.

  • Stef S

Cool, trendy little Edmonton spot. With exposed brick walls and warm stings of light, it gives air of exclusivity despite its popularity. A watering hole for the late 20’s-30’s crowd. Check out the beef carpaccio and wash that down with one of the many craft beers available.

  • Kim Rhindress

Came here after a show. Delish mini burgers with to DIE for bacon jam! So tasty and hit the spot! Our server was friendly and fun - really made our visit a great experience. So nice to have Innis & Gun beer (one of our faves) too. Kitchen closes at 11pm so plan accordingly.

  • Alexandra Konkina

The yummiest high quality food (pastas, crostinis, carpaccios, focaccias, Italian Heaven) paired with great drinks (infinite Negronis), great atmosphere, great music, and great staff. Red Star rocks. Also it’s a coffee shop called Lock Stock during the day which ALSO rocks.

  • Jen D

The service was garbage. If you’re looking for drinks it’s a great bar but we sat down just after 9:30 and were never asked if we wanted food although we opened out menus. After a fight broke out outside the bar on a Tuesday night we were told the kitchen was closed. :(

  • Lovejeet Bajwa

Great combination of coffee shop in the morning/day and pub at night. It's a hidden gem, right on the main strip of Edmonton and representative of the city...understated and complex beneath the layers. Popularity would ruin it's charm. Great staff and customer service.

  • Josiah T

A great place for a drink with friends after work or on the weekend. Sometimes they feel short staffed and it gets pretty loud even though the space is super small. Get here early if you want a table or you might be standing for a while waiting for others to clear out.

  • David

Redstar is great for a first date.. the lighting is low and very minimalistic (think Edison bulbs). It's never too loud, and the crowd tends to be a little more laid back. I haven't tried their food menu so I can't comment on it - but, their beer selection is amazing!

  • Steven

First Wednesday of every month is Reggae night, island jams playing in the background and from the menu you have your choice of Curry Chicken Roti, Curry Vegetable Roti, and Jerk Chicken. All are equally as good. Excellent vibe from the atmosphere and from all staff.

  • Tidings M

Pubs have a timeless transcendence to their lustre, and this place puts the memories back where they should be. The drinks keep coming and the smiles keep growing, the atmosphere was lively, staff was attentive and all was as it should've been. Enjoyed it a lot.

  • Justine Burns

I love this place so much! This was the first bar I've been too since March and it was amazing! Staff were stellar (as always) very respectful of covid rules and everything was clean and comfortable. I'm looking forward to going here in the winter months.

  • Dmitry Baranov

Very good selection of beer. If you can appreciate a good beer, you won't regret this place. The staff is very friendly and make you feel like you've been their regular for years, even if it is your first visit. This place can be very busy at times.

  • Ash Troy

Great place to grab drinks with friends after work or perhaps a second date... Not the first date because it's slightly to loud for an intimate convo. The mixed drinks are small but tasty and strong. And you can't beat the location.

  • Trevor Lafreniere

Good atmosphere. Is pretty quiet right after work if you're looking for a place to go. They surprisingly have good food but a small selection. Beer selection is good. There is a nice coffee shop attached that's open during the day.

  • Matt

The vibe is super hipster, but nice and cosy with decent pricing leaning towards high. Staff is friendly and pretty prompt at helping. I find it's a little hard to find, but maybe that's because I was more interested in my company.

  • Carolyn Morie

Best spot in the city!!!!!!! Amazing staff, especially the brunette goddess Kenna- a talented bartender AND server! Food is excellent, atmosphere is the best and the music is always great. My favourite is DJ CF on Friday night :)

Solid pub, great food, it's the place to be. Turns into a great coffee shop in the daytime and puts out great pub food and drinks in the night time. Get there early if you want a table, it fills up fast!

This was our first time at red star to celebrate me finishing a big exam and it was an amazing experience! The food was delicious and a really affordable price!! Our server was super friendly, 10/10!

  • Chris Buyze

Best pub in Edmonton, hands down! Service is always excellent, and the food it still the same great Italian fare since Corso 32's Daniel Costa was in the kitchen. The grilled cheese it to die for!

Coffee shop during the day. Nice. Decent prices and fresh baked scones Still warm from the oven. Staff were friendly and helpful. Can't ask for more. Oh yes they serve coffee to. . …

Great beer selection & an atmosphere foreshadowing a more urban Edmonton make for an enticing, underground meeting spot. Opening of Lock Stock Coffee in the front corner was ingenious.

Great atmosphere, very cozy and fun. The staff are fantastic and the food and drinks are all reasonably priced. Only thing is it can get quite warm/hot as it gets busier.
