I would REALLY recommend Renestance to help you in every step of the way when applying for your Carte Vitales! Our story: we are a family of four and we first turned to a local french company for help with this process. I was reassured that they, since they helped me to start up my own business here in France, knew what they were doing with regards to our CV applications. During the first year, we had to send our complete dossier twice and after several phonecalls, I received an email from CPAM and they wanted me to resend the complete dossier by email as well. I did that. Called up a few weeks later and they still couldn't find us in the system. Yes, we could still go to the doctor when we needed and paid ourselves for the, what we think, great french medical care. Every time though a bunch of papers had to be filled in and we had to keep all of them as we knew that we would get reimbursed later once we had our CV's. The months kept on ticking and the local french company did nothing despite us asking a million times. They did not seem to know what to do, nor understand the french bureaucracy! A friend recommended Nicole at Renestance when I was about to explode out of frustration! I so wished that we would have used them from the very start! Very professional and all of our queries were soon adressed by Renestance in a very strategic, experienced and actually positive way as well. I think with regards to the french administration, yes you can be lucky to end up talking to a person who can help you and then things might be fine but if your dossier falls in the wrong hands, its really not Voilà! So my advice, use the professionals for things like this! Here in France there will always be plenty of other things to put your energy into =0)) More fun things!

I would recommend Renestance for assistance with purchasing a home unless (1) you are physically in France during the ENTIRE lengthy purchase process, (2) you speak French at least at a B2 level -- upper intermediate, and (3) you already have a network of known service providers (banker, notaire, etc.). In other words, there really is no substitute for having someone on the ground.

My wife and I have found Nicole and Renestance to be key to getting settled in southern France moving from Michigan. The French bureaucracy was navigated by them with little hassle to us.
