Like all public libraries this one is exceptionally involved in the community. It is located on south Seminole Heights area. This and for years this are has been plagued with the homeless and low income families. But they didn't see this as a problem but an opportunity to reach at risk kids and adults with a beautiful learning center with it's own unique African American culture and history center dedicated to many ideas, thoughts and view points with something young adults and children of all creeds can learn and aspire so they can continue the legacy of our contribution and history here in America. It's a beautiful facility with rooms to rent that are updated, modern and clean. In fact, I used one to host a Easter Egg hunt for disabled kids and we had a marvelous time. The staff was awesome!! And usually there is a police presence there to always ensure it stays a peaceful and safe family environment. Come check out all the different art displays there. Again, it is one of those overlooked places in the city. There is ample parking also and handicapped spots with a circular drive way. Its one of my favorite libraries in the city.

Awesome library. Inside the building that houses the Robert W. Saunders, is located a small African American museum which pays tribute to local as well as national black celebrities... There is also a small research library for those looking for information about African Americans who have influenced Florida and the US. The facility is also exhibiting works of art by James Vann, his work is beautiful and reflects African American life in our country... The Joe Stine's children's library is also located inside the main facility. The staff were helpful and friendly... All libraries in Hillsborough county should follow this library's lead as to how to serve its customers with a smile and relevant information...

This is a fantastic library / resource for the community. Easy access in / out of the location. I recommend this location especially if your near the downtown area. “On November 5, 2003, the Ybor City Branch Library was renamed to honor Robert W. Saunders Sr., a former Field Secretary of the NAACP. Saunders guided the state through challenging years as the South struggled for civil rights.” Wikipedia Check it out, once it opens again, and leave a review to help others.

This is such a beautiful library. It's rich with history and has installations that teach you about local history and who the library is named after. It's newly renovated; it has an open and bright floor plan despite it's small size. There's a research room for Black History and Genealogy. All the library staff I met were super friendly and helpful, including the police officer on the first floor. If you're in the area, give this place a visit!!!

I didn't even knew it excited till I was walking by today and needed a quiet place for zoom court. they have everything! for anyone to use! wifi, charging, books, hanging out and job searches. I am totally shocked at how the community doesn't really use the place it still smells new. please wear a mask tho because the security guard is a lovely woman and shes been vaccinated by caught covid. pls look out for her and the other staff there

I learned how to crochet here, when they use to have classes (free).... that was before they remodeled. Now going back, almost brought tears to my eyes....They did such an awesome, beautiful, and inspirational job to this library. It was very quiet, clean, and had a lot of new resources available that it didn't have before. Glad to be back.

Visited the library today and it's awesome. I read a couple of books a week and spend between 6-8 hours listening to audio publications. This is a tremendous resource and the staff lead by Mrs. C.J. Hurst was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Many thanks to all that made this dream a reality. LTC J. Sheffield U.S. Army, Ret.

This is one of the newest libraries in Hillsborough County and one of the best. There are lots of nice, clean, and well equipped meeting rooms. The library is conveniently located on HART's metro-rapid line as well as the #2 bus line. There are bike racks there should you wish to get there by bike.

The part of the library with books is small. But there is so much more to this library. Laptops can be checked out. There are interactive exhibits about African American history in Tampa. Meeting space. The glass art work in the two story lobby is beautiful. Go check it out (pun intended)!

Beautiful newly remodeled & expanded library near the heart of Historic Ybor City. After school programs for children and all of the great things you would expect from a Hillsborough Co library. Staff was friendly and helpful and the space is lovely.

Great library especially the Children's room! The staff is AMAZING and they always try to do fun activities with the kids, and just a all around good environment !!! My daughter, Aliyah, never wants to leave lol!!! #HappyUser #HighLifeSalute #CJTHL

This beautiful library is absolutely worth a visit or two. It has a vault of Floridian African American history, that wasn't shared in the media or taught in the school system. I strongly recommend a trip & bring a friend!

Never a good experience at this library. Not for me at least. The loudest vibration noise ,talking through the walls and bad scents. Charging is all I do at this library. My experience.

Nicely laid out Host Great Events Like Sankofa In Feburary. As well as Historical Research. The only thing I would add would be a have center. Like the ones down town and Riverview.

Most friendliest and helpful staff of any library I've ever been to. Rich with Tampa's Af. Am. history. Open for everyone, no residency or identification restrictions.

  • Alan Day

This branch is always helpful and quick to respond to any inter-library requests. The also have an Apple sound Station there that can be scheduled to card holders.

Extremely professional staff, clean environment, clean BR! The staff show control so I feel safe with my two kids, despite the surroundings! Thank you staff!

If you are afraid of the homeless or out of work people in life I would not make this a hang out. They do have nice staff that try to help if you need it.

Great library!! the only problem is that they don't have tons of places to sit. Other than that they are a great resource in the community
