Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago is a beautiful cemetery, and it is the site of where my ancestors and their families are interred. It makes sense they choose this as their final resting place back in the day. My family and I discovered that our ancestors graves were unmarked, and we wanted to mark the six graves in our family plot. We reached out to Rosehill, and they were very kind at first about us wanting to do this. We were following the guidelines of what we had to do, and it was going great. We said we didn't want anything fancy, just something that would mark their graves. For a simple 24x12 cheapest color gray flat marker, Rosehill quoted us $2,500, plus an install fee of $1,000. First of all, the price of $2,500 is ridiculous, as when I contacted other monument companies in the area they quoted me only $750, or $1,000 for the same marker. So after we had to scrap that idea, we found some nice markers that we could get, and since I know how to install headstones, I asked Rosehill if I could please install the small markers myself, as I know how to do it properly, and they could even come out and watch me install them. I explained my process of how I did it which is in line with every monument company, I said it was the last chance to mark our ancestors graves, and we would greatly appreciate it, as we did not want to spend $15,000 on small markers and $6,000 worth of install fees just to get and install six small flat stones. The manager reviewed our case, and still denied us after my experience in the area, and what I was willing to do. Their excuses were "this is a very historic, old cemetery, and we don't want to mess anything up. If you want to do this you have to expect it to be very expensive, there's nothing you can do about it." What I got from Rosehill was great service, until it came to pricing. Rosehill, while a beautiful and historic cemetery, in my opinion has lost its values, and has lost helping people in need. The costs were way overpriced and I believe frankly they were trying to rip us off. If you plan on being buried at Rosehill, make sure you know you are going to spend an asinine amount on a headstone, even in going somewhere else for a headstone as they will still charge that monument company an install fee for installing a stone in their cemetery. The service will be great, but they will rob you blind. You notice that the manager, Steven, has responded to every other review except this one because I proved them wrong, and exposed them for their schemes. Rosehill should be ashamed of themselves.

I visited Rose Hill on Friday, June 14, 2019, in order to complete a future arrangement for a relative, and want to most highly praise the work of Julie Moore, Julio and Erica. Julie kindly, patiently and expertly helped me make plans on the phone in the course of several conversations over many weeks. Incredibly, she always instantly remembered everything we'd previously discussed, and could not have been more generous with her knowledge and counsel. On Friday, again, Julie was as kind, patient, generous and good-natured as a person could be, as we completed the contracts. In the midst of everything, Julie researched the locations at the cemetery of some other relatives I wished to visit, even though this task ordinarily would have fallen to someone else and might have taken hours to complete! In the course of completing the contracts, we ran into a trivial computer glitch which the software wouldn't permit Julie to overcome--but Erica, the office manager, most graciously dropped everything to come and help resolve the difficulty. Like Julie, Erica was as kindly, warm and good-natured as can be. Late in the afternoon, the Mausoleum was about to close, yet Julie drove me there across the grounds and arranged for Julio, a Rose Hill employee for 20 years and a most agreeable, warm and friendly gentleman, to accompany me to several widely separated sites in the enormous mausoleum. Julio led me around and was wonderfully helpful to me, making a special, long trip to collect water for a niche-side vase, and sharing light from his phone to make photos possible in a dark room. Although it was time for Julio to lock up and to leave for the day, he kindly and happily drove me to the outdoor grave site of two other relatives and helped me find their graves. Julio even apologized for not having tools with him to set one of the more-than-sixty-years-old headstones in more perfect alignment with the other! Then Julio agreed to take me to the brand new Garden of Serenity where I had just purchased space, patiently helped me explore the garden and waited as I took photos. And then, after all, Julio went out of his way to drive me to the most convenient exit from the cemetery! I couldn't have been offered more wonderful courtesies than I received Friday afternoon at Rose Hill. The visit was extremely satisfying to me, with many pleasures, and my pride that seven of my very closest relatives are resting there, with another just now having planned to follow them, was refreshed and renewed. My great thanks to Julie, Julio and Erica!

Awful experience, maybe because we live out of state. My MIL passed away last January and we waited until June to bury her cremains. My husband had to constantly call, getting a different answer for each question from a different person, had to email back and forth, etc. We were told we needed different certificates, some of which Kansas does not issue, to which we were told 2 days before she was to be buried that maybe the forms could be filed online and they would HOPEFULLY be done in time. If not, we would not be able to bury her. My husband was in a panic by that time because no one had answers for him so I finally called and got reassurance everything would be fine. Fast forward to September when I finally got my husband to call to see if her prepaid, predesigned headstone had been placed, only to find out it hadn't even been ordered! Then to top it all off, we decided to sell the remaining plots and were told the paperwork would be mailed. Well, it wasn't and it was finally e-mailed to us. This is just what I witnessed. Wait until my husband posts his review. After all this incompetence, I'm glad we won't be buried there. I can't imagine what our kids would have gone through!

I live in Los Angeles and try to visit Rosehill Cemetery at least once a year to pay respects to my Father, Mother and two Brothers who are buried there. I wasn’t able to visit the last 5 years due to financial reasons. Upon visiting in July 2021 I was very disappointed that my Father’s grave was sunk in and had very little grass on it (my Mother’s and Brother’s graves were fine). I went to the office where Mr. Tran greeted me. I told him the problem and he assured me that it would be taken care of free of charge. Even though Mr Tran was very cordial and professional I had my doubts. To my surprise the work was done within TWO DAYS! Thank You so much Mr Tran and the people at Rosehill Cemetery. I am back in Los Angeles and at peace knowing that my loved ones are being taken care of. David J Dallas.

Dignity needs to be more respectful of families searching their ancestors burial plots. They wouldn't help me until I told them I had death certificates that said they were buried at Rosehill. It finally took a call to the manager. I fail to understand whose privacy they are protecting, the deceased or theirs. I was told there are no pictures allowed and there are signs posted everywhere, hand written. The plots are sold and the deceased are the owners, they are simply the care takers. Graceland couldn't have been more helpful even offering to go with us if we had trouble finding our ancestor. Dignity needs to take note. Researching family history is difficult you make it more difficult. Please explain your no picture policy and your vigilant enforcement of it.

In all honesty you expect the graves of your loved ones to be treated with decency from the cemetary! We recently buried a loved family member at Rosehill and the recent discovery was very disheartening. We placed a fence around her grave as a memorial. With no communication from the cemetery, it was removed and footsteps on the grave! Its not right! They should have contacted us and we would have respectfully removed the fence. I still cannot believe that this is how the cemetery choose to act. We contacted them and there was no remorse. I really hope this cemetery thinks about their actions and hopefully can conduct themselves with some sympathy next time! Shame on you Rosehill!

I am a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). I reached out to Rosehill and find the final resting place for 19th Century ballplayer Ned Williamson, who has been in an unmarked grave for more than 100 years. Diedre Wolfe-Mitchell, my contact there, went above and beyond the call of duty to help us locate his exact resting place. She even went into the Rosehill vault to pore through some of the cemetery's old entry records to verify the right location. We're now moving forward with the process of getting Ned a grave marker. I can't think everyone at Rosehill enough for their work to make this happen. It's been a great experience working with them.

I can’t thank Mr. Tran enough for providing me the service that is above and beyond my expectations. I was helping a relative in Australia to look for her grandaunt that they lost contact for more than half a century. We came to believe that she may be buried at Rosehill. I emailed the cemetery Sunday night. The next day to my surprise I received a call and an email from Mr. Tran. He located the grave site and provided me all the information that I was looking for! From the email trails I can see this organization takes customers’ requests very seriously and would do everything they can to provide whatever the customer is looking for. Great customer service!!!

  • Servillano Layug

Rosehill is a lovely and peaceful cemetery. Both my mother and grandmother are buried there. What it lacks is the professionalism. We placed an order for a tombstone and vase 3 years ago and paid in full. We have been waiting for the vase for 3 years still nothing. We followed up last year and apparently, if you do not keep bothering them, they will not update you. As customers who paid in full, I would expect an update or status. It's called customer service. Please choose it as a resting place for your loved ones, but place your orders for monuments elsewhere.

  • Nox Mura

They lost the papers and designs to my father's headstone. And they claimed we didn't pay for it at one point until we showed them our papers. The grounds keeping BROKE a small headstone that was next to my father's plot. They keep pulling out the flowers we stick in the ground for out father's, even fake ones. We put them there because he still doesn't have a headstone.. It's also Easter Sunday and there's a LINE to enter the cemetery. There's no communication if they are open. No one is answering phone calls. Overall a poor experience, it's been a year now.

I took one of my granddaughters to visit my great grandparents and grandparents in the mausoleum. We were unable to get to their room because the only way to it was blocked off for construction. Luckily Ken drove up as we were checking to see if the easternmost door was unlocked. It wasn’t, but he let us in and I was able to show my granddaughter her great great great and great great grandparents’ room and tell her a little bit about them. It was a lovely experience. Ken was kind to do that!!

Between 2005 and 2008 I can not get grave located. O.K in 2009 I went to the cemetery. And some one WAS SO MAD. That I came from California. I was told from someone that for me to get the grave located I had to go to the cemetery for the information. Well yes it was my dad that was buried there. And I did not went anyone in the family to have a hard time getting to the grave. I got photos of family grave. ( About 22 ). I have people go to the cemetery 2 to 3 times a years to check the graves.

Dierdre was so lovely and went above and beyond to help me find where my grandparents are resting. They are unfortunately unmarked, so she personally came out in a golf cart to make sure i found them. She went above and beyond for me and I'm forever grateful. The other staff I spoke with in the office displayed the utmost kindness and understanding as well. I can't recommend these wonderful folks enough. Compassion and empathy are always forthcoming at Dignity Memorial .

Despite the circumstance, I felt very blessed to work with Rosehill Cemetery in making funeral arrangements. They added zero pressure in my decision making and were very flexible with organizing the day. They orchestrate directly with the funeral home with was a relief to me and my family. The grounds crew was very professional and respectable while they worked. It is always difficult to lose a loved one. My heart goes out to all who read this, my sincere condolences.

We stopped in to visit some old friends at Rosehill Cemetery Friday. We had to call to get into the locked mausoleum but it was only short wait for the groundskeeper to come to let us in. The mausoleum is well kept and a beautiful place to visit. On the way out we bumped into groundskeeper Ken cleaning the floors and he kindly answered a few questions that arose and we had very pleasant conversation on the challenges of the upkeep of a century old building.

Deadre Warner was AMAZING. She stuck with me for 6 months and helped me create the perfect memorial. She was so patient and kind while I needed to make so many changes. She also helped coordinate my meeting. Creating a memorial for a a deceased loved one is already an emotional situation but Deadre was so kind and patient that she helped make it so easy for me. I highly recommend Rosehill Cemetery and Dignity Memorial---especially Deadre Warner :)

  • Mychal Mitchell

I have passed by Rosehill since moving here in 1983. I had never been on the grounds until my mom was laid to rest in May of 2020. I'm pleased with how well the grounds are kept. The snow removal team does an excellent job. I prefer not to see people biking and jogging as if it was a park. The cemetery grounds should be visited by people connected to it. To the management and staff thank you for proving a beautiful place for my mom to rest.

  • Fang liu

We were not looking for cemetery and we've never heard of this place before. All of sudden, we received their "invitation" for a promotion of their cemetery. It's disturbing - we have never provided our info to them. It's insensitive for a cemetery to actively promote their services. It's also stupid to do that - even if in the future we would like to start planning, we probably would never consider them.

  • Joe B.

Would like to thank Emma and the Rosehill staff for the awesome work of taking care of my mom's last wishes! They took care of everything with care and dignity! Would highly recommend Rosehill for one's last place for burial, and pre-planning for the uncertain future. With it's history, and the grounds kept up will ensure friends and family visiting to pay respects will always feel welcome.

  • Mary Nunaley

The cemetery is beautiful and so much history can be found if you are willing to dig (or follow Adam from Mysterious Chicago). Unfortunately, the staff was less than helpful and record keeping was pretty archaic for the 21st century. I couldn’t believe a hand written ledger was still being used and I had to do the research to help my partner find his family members.

  • Monica Macior

Rosehill Cemetery is a beautiful well kept historic cemetery in Chicago. My dear mother is buried here. The staff was very attentive, accommodating, professional and compassionate during this difficult time. They even managed to have the memorial placed the same day it arrived and to my understanding this usually takes a week. I highly recommend their services!

  • Pamela Oster

The staff at the Dignity Rosehill front office have been a great help with researching locations of family headstones. At today’s visit, Ken, stopped to see if I needed help looking for a stone and taught me to look at the metal markers in the ground that labeled the lots. It was wonderful! I was able to find 10 grave markers easily with this new information.

  • Dajasnai Warner

I called the cemetery inquiring about a loved one buried there and the employee Deadre Warner helped me tremendously. She got me the information I needed in a timely fashion. She was so kind and patient in helping me find my loved one. She even expressed how she was sorry for my loss and gave me some encouraging words. Thank you Rosehill Cemetery.

  • Mishalle Roza-Ingram (CatGirl)

The Staff at Rosehill are very helpful and attentive to your needs. I'm very satisfied with how I was treated by my Counselor, Don and how my husband's Services went. Rosehill Cemetery is unique. There is a great Mausoleum, different types of headstones, crypts, above ground burials and sections for the cremated. I would definitely recommend it.

  • P Kurz

This the place everyone is dying to get into, it's nicely manicured and huuuge, there is a lot of history in this place and the occasional ghostly apparitions from some good sources that I know who have experienced them. Good place to go for a jog or walk and you'll keep the residents there entertained

  • Rosie Clayton

Deadre Warner has assisted me in finding information about a loved one I had not seen for years. I was only given the number to where my loved one rested and Ms. Warner was very lovely. She is the best and world recommend the use of this cemetery based on my experience with her. Thank you Rosehill.

  • Dorothy Phillips

Trying to get these people to do anything on pre planning is impossible. Once you pay for the plots they refuse to help you. I have been trying for five years to deal with a pre planning situation. My suggestion is wait till you for do not pre pay with these people. It is a total rip off.

  • George Cederquist

One of Chicago's true secret gems. I could spend hours wandering through Rosehill to reflect on our city's rich history, with its unique architecture and peaceful grounds. Be sure to chat with the helpful staff and grounds-crew. Plus, Rosehill is right across from the Fireside Lounge...

  • Tom OConnor

Rosehill is a beautiful, very well maintained cemetery. Great place for a tranquil walk while looking for some of its more famous occupants of whom there many. Lots of Chicago history. Once inside you’d never know that there is a Target store across the street.

Such beauty! I did a lot of exploring here during the pandemic and it's tranquil! I have many photos and video of a wildlife. I would love to be laid to rest here, if I wasn't getting cremated.

  • Ted Smukler

Rosehill Cemetery Is incredibly beautiful. In the middle of Chicago's north side, it is home to a huge flock of geese that frequent its pond. During the funeral, we spotted a deer and a coyote

  • Arlene Malinowski, Solo Shows

Thank you to Julie Moore and the Rosehill team. They really stepped up to help us during the February snowstorm, cold front and COVID-19 restrictions. Our family is very grateful. Thank you!

  • Ian Gardner

Do not believe the reviews, not a single person who has left one has stayed here. They put you in a bunch of dirt, not everyone's cup of tea, personally I loved it, found it very peaceful.

  • Mary Hildebrandt

It's a very large, very beautiful cemetery. There's a civil war, WWI, and WWII memorial. The mausoleum is also quite large. They offer historical walking tours monthly (Saturday mornings).

  • Joseph Kirsch

Vast and peaceful cemetery. Took my kids for a stroll and saw many deer, as well as some baby ducks in one of the water features. Overall maintained pretty well considering its size.

  • Mr. Eric

You don't have to travel to New York, New Orleans, or Boston to see one the most beautiful cemeteries in the US. We have some right here in Chicago and this is at the top of my list.

  • Justin Kreindler

The cemetery appear beautiful but they do not allow bicycles. We do not own a car and have been unable to get around inside the cemetery. I’ll note that Graceland allows bicycles.

  • Ellie Fulkerson

I truly love this cemetery. There is so much to see and it has brought me so much peace during the pandemic, and is the perfect space to clear your head, or go for a walk or run.

Deidre was a pleasure to work with. She ensured the funeral was executed seamlessly so that we did not have to worry about a thing. Highly recommend working with her!

  • Barbara owens

Staff is unwilling to help. Ask them a question and they become very annoyed. To busy laughing and smoking outside instead of helping people with their loved ones.

  • Kelly Pellum

This is a really cool cemetery. It’s beautifully set up. I enjoyed seeing the deer hanging out too. I learned who Frances M Pearce was. Sad story.

  • Rachel Doherty

Lots of old graves and huge marble mausoleum. The chapel in the center is so pretty and very calming. Plenty of trees, a lake, and even some deer.
