Came to celebrate my birthday here after seeing some of the phenomenal reviews and a recommendation from family. Starting with the appetizer, we ordered the ahi roll which came in six slices. The flavor was very light with some mild spice when you hit the center of the roll. A perfect way to get your taste buds prepped for your main course. I opted for the 8 oz filet after multiple recommendations and was not disappointed. Very tender and melts in your mouth with every bite. The juices complimenting the meat gave a perfect mixture of flavor that makes you want to continue eating this delightful entree. The scalloped potatoes were very thinly cut and lots of cheese flavor, slightly overpowering. There was a vegetable medley to help clear your palate in between bites as well. My girlfriend ordered the salmon which is by far one of the best salmon dishes. I was able to experience. Very rich in flavor and the fish causes your salivary glands to overflow as you wait for your next bite. The salmon came paired with rice, nothing too amazing but just a standard side option when pairing with seafood. Lastly, we come to the dessert. It was enough for four people to share and not being a huge cake person. I was surprised by the balance of flavor in the dish. It wasn't too sweet, which I usually don't like due to sensitive teeth, but I was able to eat all of the cake and ice cream that I served onto my plate. There was enough to cover the four people at our table and have everybody feel satisfied. Overall, it was a very pleasurable experience. Dress code is and if I were to have any criticisms it wouldn't be anything with the food at the restaurant, but rather the parking and location of the restaurant as it is Bayside and not easily accessible without a decent walk. Would absolutely come here again for a special occasion.

Parking
The restaurant is behind the Marriott so parking is difficult. If you're trying to find a non-paid solution. We opted for valet parking which came out to $12 after dinner with a validation from the restaurant. You would still have to walk around the hotel to get back to the parking area if you went through the hotel to get to Roy's. Little bit of a walk.

I had a great dinner with my family here. This upscale Hawaiian style restaurant does an excellent job with their fish. I had the “Butterfish” which was some of the best fish I had ever had. To begin, it was a really good cut of fish, that was then cooked to a perfect temperature, and the sauce was simple yet absolutely stellar addition. Also on my plate were some veggies and rice. I ate the rice last and used it to soak up the remaining fish sauce. For dessert, we had the chocolate soufflé and the pineapple upside cake. Both were rich with delicious flavors, but the pineapple upside cake achieved a texture so amazing that my words can’t do it justice. The cake had a caramelized pineapple and coconut top that was chewy and delicious. Aside from the food, the service was great. Our waitress, Lauren, was very attentive and friendly. At one point we had ordered an appetizer that took a while to arrive due to a food runner’s error, so she removed it from the bill even though we didn’t complain. I really appreciated the gesture. Overall, it’s a great place— provided your wallet is ready!

This was my first time visiting Roy's and will definitely not be my last. The service is unparalleled! Starting with getting a cool glass of water as soon as you sit down and it being refilled constantly without asking. The server was amazing letting us know how long the desert was taking that night in case we wanted to order it, so we would not wait too long after our entree, the busser offered us coffee as well and we gladly ordered it with our desert. The food was incredible definitely worth your penny, every single staff member was very attentive, I would highly recommend this restaurant, we made reservations for 7:30 and it was the perfect time to see the sun set down in the marina. 10/10. The only small downside was that the Marriot parking lot was full (which is not their fault of course) and we ended up parking in the seaport village parking lot, the hostess gladly offered us a validated ticket anyways in case they could honor it, but we ended up shopping at seaport village and getting validation in one of their stores.

My family and I dined here on Christmas day and got to experience their Christmas menu. We were greeted by the hostess and were immediately seated (we had made a reservation online). We were seated where half our table could see the lovely view outside. Next time we may ask for the patio, because it looked beautiful out there. I ordered the Szechuan Spiced Pork Ribs for my appetizer. The ribs were insanely good and filling. I ordered the 14oz USDA Prime New York Strip as my entree. The steak was medium rare instead of rare, but other than that it tasted great. The mac n cheese that came with it was just okay. For dessert the whole table ordered the Macadamia Nut Bread Pudding which was very good. My sister ordered the Thai-Style Seafood Bouillabaisse as her entree and it was freaking amazing! I will order that next time we dine here. Our server was Kristen, who was awesome. She checked on us regularly and always made sure we were goodbon drinks. She was really helpful with menu recommendations. We parked in the hotel's parking lot and had our parking ticket validated at the restaurant.

My wife and I were in San Diego for two reasons, a Michael Buble concert and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have been to Roy’s in various locations and have always enjoyed their Asian cuisine. When we located a Roy’s in San Diego we knew where we would enjoy a great anniversary dinner. This location sits behind the beautiful Marriott Marquis hotel right on San Diego’s waterfront harbor. We were seated at the window row of tables overlooking the harbor and the numerous boat’s moored. We decided on a dinner of appetizers, always a treat at Roy’s. The restaurant atmosphere is quiet and casual. The service is attentive and the items come out of the kitchen fast and hot. For dessert we were treated with the chocolate lava cake accompanied by vanilla ice cream for our anniversary. A sweet surprise! So if you are in San Diego and looking for a great place to dine with a spectacular view, I would highly recommend Roy’s as a restaurant to spend a quiet evening with great food with a view.

I’m rating this Roy’s Restaurant 2 stars for many reason. Overall the food did not meet my expectations(I have loved Roy’s and I have been to many other restaurants of their locations). The food came in quickly and that was good. And overall the service was okay too. But quickly we noticed the main issue! There was flies all over us and was on are food and swarming our table. It was disgusting and quickly we lost are appetite! They were in are drinks. That had caused us to not enjoy our meal. It felt very gross and we had to leave the table while waiting for the check to come because of how many flies and bugs there were! I am not sure if they were at other tables too. Later I had talked to one of the managers he told me that they have been struggling with this issue for many months and they still can’t fix it! I was still very disappointed! To me and my family Roy’s was a very nice and tasty restaurant. But at this location it sure did not feel like it! I added photos of the flies and I still feel disappointed!

We had a reservation at 8:15pm tonight and arrived at 8:00pm for our reservation. There were a lot of open tables, so the host was able to seat us. We received water right away, but after 20 minutes the server has not stopped by our table. One table next to us had received wine in this time and another table seated after us had drinks and appetizers. I told the host that we had not had any server at our table. She said she would let them know we were there. After 5 more minutes with no server at our table and different servers attending to the tables on either side of us, we opted to leave. We chose to have dinner at Roy’s because my son wanted their lava cake for dessert. And we have enjoyed the food there before. But tonight was a big disappointment.

Maybe my standards are too high, but I was a bit disappointed with my experience. I chose Roy's as it was basically the shortest walk to food and appeared to have a decent menu with zero wait. It was a bit chilly, but I still opted for the outside seating around the bar. Nice feel, but the service left a bit to be desired. This is partially my fault perhaps as I ordered the sushi. Maybe I should've investigated a bit further and selected an alternative menu option? Either way, I'm a sushi fanatic, it's on the menu, I'm eating it. It was by all means edible, just not really that good...? Questionable freshness on the fish perhaps, overall just bland rolls. YMMV, but I struggle to recommend this one.

We went late on a weekday, around 8:40 pm, and decided to grab a few appetizers and drinks at the bar. This place is fantastic!! The staff was super friendly. They accommodated us and didn’t make us feel rushed at all, even though we were there close to closing. Our bartender walked us through the drinks and menu and gave us some great recommendations. He also let us sample the pineapple used for the famous Pineapple Martini, which is soaked in vodka for two weeks before being used in their drinks! I would highly recommend the Pineapple Martini, I literally could only drink one! All of the food was fabulous, and I would say that the egg rolls were my favorite out of all that we tried. We will be going back for sure!

Just ok. I get it. Others love this place. The food is good and service ok but overall, at lot of hype and quite pricey. If there was a significant difference in seafood quality or service, sure, but for us, just ok when cut through to the core. Our experience was that the service was rushed. It was not individualized. It wasn't busy either. Our special occasion which they made a big deal about on the phone when we reserved was completely missed. And the plating a bit messy and sloppy. The highlight? The Mai Tai. Delightful.

Roy's restaurant is a high end place that's great for gatherings. It is, however limited in the way of vegan options. I had one option for an appetizer and one option for a meal. They do have a hidden vegetarian menu (most with dairy included). The grilled vegetable "dinner" was not very hearty or flavorful, despite the basalmic glaze. It included a whole 1/4 onion, bell peppers, broccoli and the top of one portobello mushroom.

Service was a disaster. Waiter disappeared and had to be called over to take our order after 20 minutes. He then realized we had dinner instead of lunch menus. Had to be called back after another 20 minutes. Just to be told items we wanted on the lunch menu were not available. Food then took another 45 minutes to come out. Manager brought food out with waiter, careful not to make eye contact with us and didn’t say a thing. Great leadership.

The food is great, the drinks are great, you will leave feeling satisfied but your wallet will leave feeling empty. We ate there mid afternoon during comic con and they seated us within 20 minutes, but we also sat for long periods of time. We were all really happy with what we ordered, but the price seems higher than what it was worth. I think the cheapest entree was $48.

Really nice restaurant facing the marina behind the San Diego Marriott Marquis. Went here for lunch to celebrate our anniversary. The food was excellent. Had the Canoe sampler, a salad, and Chilean Sea Bass. The staff gave us a complimentary lava cake for dessert since we were celebrating, took our picture and gave it to us in a card! That was very nice and unexpected. We will definitely be coming back!

They were able to seat all 10 of my guests with no issues, or having to split us up into two tables. Even when we were seated outside, and it started to rain, they already had a table for us inside. The food & drinks were delicious. The service was great. We definitely will visit Roy’s in the future.

Local eating at Roy’s for the first time. The service was ok, seems like they were understaffed but that’s seems to be the norm for many restaurants lately. The food was Ok- no WOW factor. Would I come back, probably not. Our bill was high for just three of us and the food wasn’t worth the price due to taste.

New Year’s Eve Pre Fox dinner was excellent! I did miss the usual items that are served such as their sushi. We had the poke appetizer, Butterfish, filet, and finished it off with the Macadamia nut tart and triple chocolate tart. Everything was delicious. I can’t wait to go back and sample the rest of the menu.

This was the first time I visited Roy's in San Diego and was not disappointed. My wife and I were hungry after visiting the 2020 San Diego International Auto Show at the Convention Center. After a short walk we decided to eat here. We were not disappointed. The appetizers, entrees and desserts were absolutely perfect. We enjoyed our food so much. We will definitely be back when in the area. Highly recommended.

  • GARY HO

The food quality was underwhelming, and the service left something to be desired. During our lunch meeting with a group of twelve, we noticed the absence of attentive service for drink refills. For a high-end dining experience, especially when the restaurant isn't crowded, one would expect dedicated staff ensuring that all table needs are promptly met.

Super sweet staff during Comic-Con, it even started raining a tiny bit on the patio and they moved umbrellas over. Wish they would've participated more in the event, but it was chill. Food/drinks were amazing. Our server was awesome. Mango Lychee Margarita was delicious.

One of the best meals we’ve had in our lives! This fusion is mind blowing! The lobster bisque with curry and coconut is to die for. Then the sushi with wagyu beef is phenomenal. When also had the jumbo tiger shrimp and seared scallops… WoW!!!! Perfect! Just amazingly perfect!!!

Poor service. Seated right away and given menus. After 20 minutes no one even stopped by our table... we left. So disappointing. We were hoping to give our daughter a special birthday dinner there. Menu looked good... too bad we didn't get to try the food.

The butterfish dish is, in my opinion, Roy's BEST dish, but they changed the recipe. It tasted watered down. Please don't try to fix something that is not broken.
