Yesterday, September 11, 2017, my wife took her old 99 Tercel into SMRO Auto Service for a broken exhaust system. The owner took her in immediately and diagnosed the problem.He offered both long term and short term solutions to her problem and the outcomes of these solutions. While the car was on the lift being inspected for the problem, the very courteous owner brought her in and showed her exactly what was wrong, what had been done in the past and what he would do to correct the problem. While on the hoist the owner took the time to fully inspect the rest of her car as she expressed concerns over her parking brake. This wonderful man diagnosed this issue and corrected it while waiting for the necessary parts for her exhaust issue. Once he had completed that repair he gave her car a thorough going over and found where parts had been replaced and checked the condition of the comparable parts on the other side of the car to ensure these would not need replacing. Once the repairs were completed he even checked and adjusted the tire pressures and found the tires were in need of replacement. The owner offered the names and numbers of suppliers that would be able to help her to solve that issue in her price range. They then spent time going over the bill, which was quite affordable, so she could fully understand where our money had been spent. My wife had never experienced this type of service anywhere in Ottawa in her 50+ years of living in this city. My hat is off to this couple who are running a fantastic shop, with service and integrity not commonly found in repair shops today. SMRO provided me with the best automotive service I've ever received in 30+ years of owning many vehicles. It's that simple. I had some check engine light codes showing up for a little while due to a faulty O2 sensor and some wiring that had been gnawed at and damaged by rodents. The local Subaru dealership here in Ottawa (which I won't name - lol) quoted me around $3800.00-$4000.00 to replace the entire wiring harness as my only option so that’s when I decided to give SMRO a try to see if maybe there was another more reasonable solution - while fully expecting that there might not be. Long story short, rather than sell me on replacing the entire wiring harness ($$$$) Robin suggested we do an electrical ghost search to isolate and fix the issue at the source. I knew that this could have went either way given that troubleshooting electrical issues can potentially be time consuming and expensive with no guarantee of success. Robin and his crew nailed it down and fixed things up! I was elated. Robin and his team went way above and beyond my expectations – by far. While I was at it, I had other miscellaneous work done; full front brake servicing, new pads and rotors on the back brakes, exhaust adjustments to sort out a sloppy trailer installation that introduced some rattling noise and left some wires exposed to potential damage… Anyway, job well done. My car didn't start working one day. Had it towed to this dealership that specializes in my kind of car. For over 10 weeks it stayed there. About 6 weeks were needed to order the parts and the rest was mainly to diagnose the problem of my car. Their mechanic was not able to diagnose my car problem at all. At some point, they asked for more hours to diagnose it even further - nothing happened. I had to pull it out and have it towed to SMRO because of a friend's recommendation. Dropped my car at SMRO on September 16. Robin gave me an assurance that he can fix it with his team. They have my full trust, as the recommendation came from a very reliable person in the industry. At that time he was working on cars that were there ahead of mine. Came Thursday, September 22 he called and said that my car has started and that he knew what the problems are and what caused it. I was able to get my car back last Tuesday. September 27. And by the way, the part that was ordered at the dealership was not even needed but Robin had to put it on anyway as it was already married or paired with my car-such a waste. Robin and his team at SMRO are very professional, true to their words and price wise-reasonable considering that they spent hours working on my vehicle. They are highly equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for the kind of job that they do. I highly recommend this shop.

My family and I just moved in to Canada from Philippines, living in Gatineau but working in Ottawa so we don’t have anyone to consult which auto repair shop would give us best service for a fair amount of money. So, I googled every auto repair shop and then I came across this SMRO with consistent good reviews mentioning all about good service, friendly owner (Robin) and experienced staff, reasonable price. It sounded too good to be true until I tried it. True enough! Robin and his mechanics are such amazing team, fast and efficient, gives you the feeling of importance as client, displays mastery of their crafts troubleshooting different sort of car problems (especially for someone like me who settled for 2ndhand car). I never felt like I was being taken advantage of and Robin took great care in explaining things to me. And the owner (Robin and wife) even offered to ferry me to my workplace while they fix my car! Who does that!?! Now after this past week's experience, I will continue to service my car here. I will never take my car anywhere else. For starters, the owner made a great first impression. I came in with the intention of determining why my car was driving uncomfortably. I was having problems with other auto shops such as Canadian Tire trying to take advantage and overcharge much more then they require. I called asking for an alignment at Canadian Tire, and almost immediately I felt that the employee I was speaking too was trying to get me to spend more money then I would have wanted. The steep 100$ cost of a diagnosis that takes a little more than 10 minutes is forced even when an alignment alone was all I requested. Although the alignment was ultimately not he issue, I wanted to save as much as I could and I was going to try to get rid of the issue by process of elimination. I wanted an honest opinion, and that is exactly what SMRO Auto Repair And Service did. I The owner was forthcoming, and explained to me in detail not only the problem with my tires, but also went above and beyond to inspect the rest of my vehicle and provide me with all of he necessary information I needed as a bonus. I will definitely be returning to SMRO Auto Repair for all of my future automobile needs.

Last week I came to this business to ask for a second opinion on apparent damage to my car that was voiding my warranty on my Honda civic. The Honda service centre was making a false claim that I had caused damage to my own car. These people spent a considerable amount of time discussing this issue with me, and instead of charging me for their service, directed me to an alternative Honda service centre for a full wheel alignment which would expose the issue with my car's supposedly damaged control arm. Thanks to their advice I was able to show that there was no damage to my car and the Honda service Centre was attempting to dodge the warranty. I had scheduled an oil change with them, but unfortunately, I'm not able to carry through with the appointment due to my car being finally repaired under full warranty together with an apology in the form a free oil change and other services. Anyhow, thanks again for your help. I average 5000 km a month on my car so I will be seeing you soon for the next servicing.

After being rubbed the wrong way at a different repair shop due to lack of customer service, and what seemed to be an overly excessive assessment and quote, I googled for nearby repair shops that did exhaust work. I called SMRO and had an appointment booked promptly. As I arrived I immediately was refreshed at the great contrast in the immediate excellent professional customer service and right away had my car up on the hoist to access the issue. The owner himself physically showed me the problem and solution which was an efficient repair vs the unnecessary replacement which was the only option the prior shop offered. This repair was done well, has held up and saved me a ton of money. I will be continuing business with this shop which from my experience is an all around skilled and professional breath of fresh air. After reading several reviews for several different car repair shops in Ottawa, decided to give SMRO a try. My wife and I drove 2 hours to get to Ottawa and yes, it's hard to find a good mechanic that is not only honest, but informs you and shows you what needs to be done on your vehicle. I'd drive from Montreal to Toronto if it meant great service! After replacing all 4 Wheel Bearings (was expecting only one), some front suspension Stabilizer Bar Links, an oil change, and extra $$, our car runs smooth. Peace of mind for the upcoming winter. Robin takes the time to not only show you what needs replacing, but explains your options as well. You can actually see them working on your car. Unlike some shops and most dealers where you have no idea what's going on. Thx to Stephanie as well. Would highly recommend them and will definitely be back. Not too often I hope! ;)

SMRO is outstanding. I took my misfiring 2008 Honda Accord to SMRO after going to multiple garages with a disappointing results, including a Honda dealership which estimated timing chain, (with 98% accuracy) as an issue and asked $2,100 for a repair. After other garages couldn't made any progress for days, SMRO diagnosed and FIX my car within a couple of hours . In the process they recommended a great towing service and even throw in a few freebees at the end. By far best customer service since I came to Canada 20 yrs ago; KNOWLEDGABLE, friendly, and HONEST staff and owner. Due to their fantastic work on what was almost considered a lost cause repair job for my car, they have gained a new customer. Highly recommend SMRO to anyone, look no further.

I recently visited SMRO for an oil change, and I have to say, I was impressed with their service. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by friendly staff who were ready to assist me. They explained the process and the different types of oil available for my vehicle and helped me choose the best option for my needs. The actual oil change was quick and efficient, and they even performed a free inspection of my vehicle's other fluids and filters.They find out left side indicator and breat light bulbs were gone and they were kind enough to replace at same time. The mechanic who worked on my car was knowledgeable and professional, and he explained everything he did and answered my questions.

I had just moved to Ottawa and one of my biggest concerns was finding a mechanic I could trust. I had a lot of issues with my car: Bad tires, bad brakes, damaged tie rod. My pastor told me about Robyn and I thank God I found him. He doesn’t lie to you about your car’s issues to get money out of you, and he’ll show you and explain any problem to you so you can see it with your own eyes. He’ll answer every single one of your questions. He really cares about the customer and he’s completely honest. He has a good team, great customer service and a wealth of experience. If he was in it for the money, he wouldn’t have started his own shop. Trust me, you can trust Robyn. He knows what he’s doing.

Just a quick note of appreciation to Robin for going above and beyond to fix a part on a used car I just bought. The easy route would have been to replace the part. Unfortunately, the replacement part was not available from the dealer (anywhere) or from local auto part providers. My own searches with online part seller indicated it was not possible to get from online either - as unbelievable as it might sound. Robin took the longer route, the only option available, and repaired the used part. I am a new customer and he went above and beyond for a perfect stranger. I am no mechanic but I know enough to realize that the price he charged was very reasonable.

I brought my van in on short notice to have them give me a second opinion on my air conditioning. I was told I needed a new compressor from a different mechanic. He calmly explained that he didnt want to take the other mechanic at his word without doing a full inspection. Turns out I have a leak in my line that there may be a recall on, and my compressor is fine. Took a $1500 quote and repaired my vehicle for almost a third of the cost while adding additional services (oil change and air filter replacement). This guy is very honest in his pricing and works hard for his customers. If you are shopping for a new mechanic definitely give this shop a call.

We took our 15 year old, nearly 500K km highlander to Robin for advice on what needed attention to keep it on the road another couple of years. Robin was thorough, professional, knowledgeable and gave us great explanations and recommendations on what to do and what was not worth it given the age of the car. There are many mechanics who would just have given you a long list of things that you'd pay them for ... not so Robin. I highly recommend this shop! Robin and his team provide quality work for fair prices. I had my vehicle safetied here when I first moved to the province. Robin clearly and easily explains each issue by showing you the different parts of your vehicle and why there may be a problem. I very much appreciate the time taken to show and explain each issue as it helps me to fully understand the problems with my vehicle and the importance of each part. Stephanie at the front desk is so nice and knowledgeable and I recommend setting up an appointment as the shop is very busy. Overall great all around service! I come here for all my vehicle needs.

I cannot recommend this place more highly. Extremely honest service; they take the time to explain what the issue is and what the pros/cons are of getting a particular service (or not). I.e., they do not try to sell you services/parts that you don't immediately need. They are also extremely accommodating and helpful; my brake servicing was longer than expected, but I had an appointment to get to, so the owner drove me to my appointment, then picked me up afterwards to bring me back to the shop. Will continue coming back to this location for all my vehicle needs, and would highly recommend to others.

While I have some great experiences here, my last experience here was not good. Last time I was in, the receptionist dismissed my request to have my tire pressure sensors reset saying I needed to fill up the air in my tires when that was not the issue (I switched my tires outside of a dealership/garage and needed the sensor switched to the summer tires). All my additional requests were ignored even though I was willing to pay for them. Oil change was over $100. I think I might go back to working with dealerships for services like oil changes. This place is still good for reasonably priced repairs.

After recently moving to Ottawa and searching for a mechanic, I've had three successful, efficient, and professional service experiences with SMRO Auto. My 2013 Audi A4 still runs like a dream, but is starting to require a little extra service attention as she ages. Robin, Stephanie, and their team at SMRO auto provided exactly that. The best part of the experience is the way they take the time to explain the issue, their proposed fix, and the risks associated with ignoring the issue. I didn't feel pressured, up-sold, or taken at any point of the process. 10/10 would recommend.

Came to SMRO after getting quoted an ECU fix way out of my price range from another garage. Robin not only quoted me a way lower price but was able to fix other issues (leaking power steering and switching outer tie rods) and my final total was still under what I was originally quoted from another garage. SMRO not only met my expectations but exceeded them! Every step of the way I felt Robin was taking his time to really help me understand everything that was being done to my car. I am a driving instructor, teaching with a 2001 VW Golf, original gas engine with 500k kms. The team at SMRO came in under budget, did more work than promised and got the job done way ahead of schedule. Robin updated me at every step and gave me a clear understanding of what needed to be done. He showed me all the old parts and even had pictures of the work in progress. On top of it all....it was a big job on my 2008 Acura RDX that several other garages refused to do. I have never had such a straight forward experience having repairs done. How can I ask for more? I will be back for all my future repairs...which I hope there won't be too many of:)

I have nothing but amazing things to say about SMRO auto service. I have never met anyone so willing to answer questions about Car. This is hands down the best service I have ever received, anywhere in Ottawa! I drove to garage without appointment, Robin and his team fixed the issue very shortly. Since i have very little knowledge about car i was looking for an inexpensive and honest price, glad i find out Smro auto. 100% satisfied with their work, customer service and very reasonable price. They quoted me a lower price on the phone then when I went to go pay it was substantially higher. I was also told they almost put the wrong oil in my Mercedes, which would have destroyed the engine if they had not caught the mistake at the last moment. I recently had my car inspected by Mercedes and was told that the brake fluid is already contaminated and that the recent brake flush I had done by SMRO in August must have not been done fully and/or correctly. Do NOT recommend for Mercedes or German cars. Regret bringing my car here.

I contacted three auto repair places using their website contact form and SMRO was the only one that replied, just minutes after my inquiry. I needed my Air Conditioning fixed and they gave me a quote right away. I asked for an appointment on a Friday and I went on a Tuesday. They promised I would only wait 2 hours and that was done. The problem was explained to me in detail and even showed me the old compressor and what was wrong with it. Highly recommended and won't doubt using their services in the future.

Robin and his team handle everything car-related for our family. In an industry that, frankly, has a bit of a reputation for underhanded tactics, I've never felt anything but complete trust in Robin. I know next to nothing about cars and would be an easy mark for a shady mechanic, but Robin has consistently provided great advice about our vehicles, and goes above and beyond with opinions and advice whenever we bother him with questions about what our next vehicle should be, etc. I'd never use anyone else.

Amazing place, they are all very professional and they always try to make you feel like a member of the shop. The owner always goes into details about the car repairs which is very good I find because I have had horrible experinces with other shops where they don't tell you in details and they rip you off for your money! I was having trouble with the gate of my truck that we drive in the mud to the cottage. I got home from the cottage and it would not close. I phoned everywhere but they were booked for weeks with snow tires. I saw all the positive reviews at SMRO and gave them a call. I got Robin and he said he was busy but would try to fit me in. He cleaned all the mud out of the gate of my truck and got me back on the road when no one else would look at it. Thanks to Robin and his staff! I will be back!!

I took my car here to have service re-done that another garage didn't do properly. Well the owner (Robin) is very knowledgeable, frank, and honest. His staff were friendly as well. They showed me exactly what was wrong. I would very much recommend going to this garage and I can see why it has such a good rating online. They even sent me an estimate via email before going in. SMRO has never failed to provide anything but exceptional service. Went there for an exhaust issue. While the dealerships want to replace certain parts which would cost a fortune, the mechanics at SMRO decide to take out their welding torches and seal up where the holes are located. Now my 2011 Subaru sounds like it just came off the factory floor at a small fraction of the OEM replacement cost. They have always provided honest friendly professional service at a very reasonable price.

I have been going to SMRO for about 4 years now. Every time I have a great experience, Robin is extremely knowledgeable and always gives me the best recommendations on how to move forward with a repair that fits my budget. They are always patient with me as I have the worst car anxiety and they always give me peace of mind. I have recommended SMRO to friends who have also had great experiences. I ended up with a transmission leak over the weekend and the friendly staff at SMRO Auto got me back up and running in no time. My car was fixed up only a few hours after I brought it in! I have recommend this shop to all my friends and family. I have been going to SMRO auto since they opened. I went there because the owner Robin had worked on my car when he was at his other shop and was always upfront about what needed work and what could wait. When at the shop there is a very friendly atmosphere and I've never had any issues with his work. Prices are fair and the work is quality, hard to find a good mechanic but I trust him with my car.

SMRO performed and completed work on my 2011 Toyota Venza; when two Toyota dealerships were unable to diagnose the problem or address it. They also were able to manage and address an insurance claim requiring body work and mechanical repairs in an iefficient and confident manner. Something that my insurance carrier could not do. Because of their honesty and skill, This auto repair shop gets all of my auto repair work.

Robin has been wonder to me as a client and by keeping my car in perfect running order!! He takes the time to inform me on what he is fixing and why. In the past I have felt nervous about getting my car fixed. I am afraid I will be taken advantage of. I do not feel this way about SMRO. Robin's a solid guy. Didn't advise me for anything I didn't need for my ES350 and went on a drive with me to get more information to better address the concerns I had with my car. Pricing is reasonable and the shop's got a great environment where you can tell there is some good teamwork going on between the mechanics. Will be back.

I just have to say that I've always been a little skeptical about the honesty of privately owned garages, but I give this place 5 stars because the service is great the place is very clean and it's the only place that I will bring my daughters car to be worked on. And as we all know, we want the best for our kids safety.

I brought my vehicle in expecting brake work to be required but Robin was very honest and said I could hold off. I know other garages would not have hesitated to do the work right away, so I appreciate his being upfront with me and I will be happy to return in the future and recommend his business to family and friends.

Went in to get a Safety Certificate. Booked appointment for 3pm. Took about 40 minutes. Everything went smoothly. When the car was on the lift, he was transparent with showing me the rear linkage. He offered espresso as well. Everything seems well organized. I did not feel pressured into anything. I'll be back for sure.

I’ve been here twice and have had a good experience on both occasions. I found the technician to be quite transparent and knowledgeable as well. He made the effort to help me understand the problems with my car and was honest about my options to fix them while spending as little as possible.

Good service, convenient booking. But price was exaggerating. More than 80+ tax for 30 minutes fluid change(labor only). When i asked Acura dealer they told it would be 50 but I chose SMRO for more convenient booking and expected slightly cheaper price than dealer. Well, i was wrong.
