In 2022, our company engaged SRJ to handle our taxes. During our initial discussions, we spoke with Shayan and he mentioned the potential for partnerships and offered to assist us with tech grant applications, citing their experience with tech startups and knowledge of good deals in the industry. This seemed like an appealing added value compared to other agencies we had considered. We agreed to work with them on a fixed amount per year, encompassing tax services and grant applications. Throughout the year, Christine started helping us with our taxes. We diligently managed our bookkeeping on Wave, as we had done our taxes ourselves before generating revenue. However, upon receiving the final bill, we were shocked to find that it was almost twice the amount we had originally agreed upon. When we inquired about the discrepancy, they justified the increase by citing hours spent on responding to emails and other unspecified tasks. We found this explanation unfair and implausible, as we couldn't imagine that the time spent on these items warranted such a substantial additional cost. Furthermore, despite the initial promise of assistance and suggestions for grants, we received little to no support in this area. As a result, we ended up spending significantly more than what was initially discussed, which was truly disappointing. In conclusion, our experience with SRJ was far from satisfactory. The unexpected and substantial increase in the bill, along with the lack of support in grant applications, left us feeling let down and questioning the value of their services. We had hoped for a mutually beneficial partnership, but unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations.

Had my tax return done with them earlier this February. I hoped there was more communication, this was my first time filing for self employment and as my accountant I was hoping they would give me some pointers on what type of expenses can be filed under what. But I was just given an excel sheet and questionnaire to fill out on my own, I emailed them once with some questions and it took them a week to email back, which gave me the impression they are busy and I’m not important. At the end their tax partner (I believe) called me to review my tax return and he sounded very knowledgeable. After my tax return is done I emailed him to set up a consultation for incorporation but I never heard back. Overall they got the job done but didn’t meet my expectations. I understand accountants are very busy during tax season which is why I filed early and hoping they would have a little more time for me but that was not the case.

I just had a consultation with these folks (didn't need to proceed to the point of paid services) and was left with a very good impression. They gave really good/honest (verified by personal research I did on my own) advice on my tax situation. I didn't feel pressured to proceed with a paid service. I also liked that they gave a level of confidence on the quote they provided.Depending on the clarity of your tax situation, they may even provide a 100% accurate quote. If my tax situation did require proceeding beyond the consultation, I would've felt comfortable doing so. Keep up the good work!! :D

I've been working with the group at SJR for a number of years now and haven't had any issues with them. I'm unsure of the previous experiences other reviewers have had but we've had a great experience with everyone at SRJ. They have all made life easier for myself and our company when it comes to tax/accounting related issues. I'd strongly suggest using them if you're looking for accounting and tax help.
