What drops this Safeway is the level of customer service and policy-based unwelcome feeling. The layout and structure of the store is far superior to the one it replaced, and i couldn't wait for it to reopen, as I'm a block away. That said, this video from December 2 demonstrates how ridiculous the compelled self-checkout policy has gotten. If you have more than one person on the floor (you had six) capable of checking out customers, they should be at the counters relieving this bottleneck. This should NEVER happen. To drive this point further home, one phrase I should NEVER hear from a floor manager or clerk is " I don't have time" when I need assistance retrieving an item, and that's what I got from your tall, pony-tailed gentleman this past Thursday. Your milk door was broken, so the 2% wasn't visible. Clerk couldn't find it, so he asked manager. I myself actually saw it was moved over, but pushed back so it was unreachable. It just required a pole or stick to push the product down to be visible. Your guy was like, "I don't have time for that." Time for what? To do something other than stand your lazy butt around? All you were doing was standing around self checkout WATCHING patrons, like everyone else. I come to expect this after 7, but there were no checkout lines open at 4:30 despite plenty of personnel. I'll still patronize, but only if I'm in a pinch. I'll take the bus to QFC or walk extra blocks to Trader Joe's because they value their customers enough to not try to extract their labor as well as their money.

I was there on what I thought would be an "idle" Tuesday night. There was nothing idle about it. The high number of university students shopping was ridiculous. The aisles were difficult to navigate due to the sheer volume of foot traffic, and the timesaving self-checkout was anything but. Their cereal selection is sub-par at best, and the main reason I gave it a paltry 2.6 (had to round up to 3) rating was because the only gallon milk they had was skim and organic. They carry the other ones but the shelves were completely void of those. It's a nice store but I was surprised by how narrow of a selection there was. If I had to say something positive, then I'd say it'd be a good place for a younger single person to shop. Get yourself a different type of meat while standing in line at the meat dept, if you get my drift. I just was not satisfied with my overall experience at the new Safeway though, and I'm probably going to stick with shopping at the other location.

Well stocked and beautiful! The renovations have done this Safeway justice, never have I been so impressed with a Safeway in my life. Truly a wonder to watch the opening of a long awaited full grocery store (Target doesn't count). I've often wished for a grocery store like this in UDistrict. The parking garage is convenient though a bit tight. I will be coming back regularly, cannot say enough good things about this Safeway. The layout of the store is a bit inconvenient but has everything you need while being compact and easy to maneuver. Can't wait to watch this store flourish.

This Safeway is great. It has a covered outdoor eating area right off the deli entrance. This is one of the most clean Safeways I've ever been in. If you're here from another state or country, you know it's impossible to find a public restroom in Seattle, but this Safeway boasts 2 extra large public restrooms for people in need. Overall 5 stars their customer service has always been top notch, on top of a clean store and covered outdoor eating area makes me wish I lived in the university district.

This new Safeway in the University district is just ok. I liked the one near U Village much better and am sad to see that one close. This U district Safeway does have ample parking downstairs, but found the blasting hip hop music from the garage speakers uncharacteristic of a Safeway. The people hanging out in front of the store are a little sketch as well. I do prefer Safeway over QFC, since their inventory is better and more consistent.

Well stocked store front. Terrible! customer service and very few employees which makes things worse and the current workers there are not very nice at all. They disregard the elderly and shout and scream at them back. This store is in U district they need to understand that they not only serve young university people but All sorts of people. I wish corporate did something about it.

Absolutely love this place. It’s clean & staff are friendly. And truly appreciate this location being open till 1am. It’s a rare occurrence in city when a location that actually sell food. And special they have are on point. I will be doing attending this location for my current & future shopping.

It is here and they are back! It has lovely natural lighting and the building is quite refreshing. It is quite nice, it looks relatively big, it is clean and the produce selection is fresh and excellent!

Most of the workers at this particular Safeway are incredibly rude and seem to be especially unhelpful and rude to the less fortunate people that come in! Even when they are spending money!

Finally a nice safeway for the area. Prices are always changing but it’s nice to have a grocery store that’s close and affordable. The sushi they have here is amazing made fresh daily.

Excellent store. The nice man helped me when I got lost in the adult drink section. He even gave me a manual on how to use the store! Excellent food per dollar value: 4.7

Some cashier in a red cougars jersey was screaming at a homeless guy to get out when he was trying to pay for something to drink. All dude wanted was to pay and go.

ITS BACK BABY The layout of the deli section is pretty weird though, but that won't bring down my excitement of finally having a Safeway back on Brooklyn

This is a great smaller sized Safeway Store. Has everything you need and walking distance for so many people living in the area.

Smallish Safeway. I like their flower selection. I don't like the long lines. Sketchy folks are hanging around.

Clean, organized, and very friendly staff. I'm definitely shopping here whenever I need to get some groceries

Very convenient in the neighborhood of U District, was really impressed there was a Safeway so close to us

  • Simon Tan

One of the best Safeways in the region, surprisingly fresh produce and good selection

  • I Ren

Clean and new. Great staff. Just a little bit pricier than other Safeways in the city

  • David Davidson

Best grocery store in the area, with the best parking garage.
