Overall a nice and interesting hotel with cosy garden to get away from the buzzing of the streets. Avoid room No 9 (soft room) which is right next to the reception and even though they have made considerable effort not reduce noise, it is not a nice room, has no view and has smell of humidity coming from the bathroom. You can also feel the vibrations of cars going by in the street. It is not the cheapest room in the hotel so I am wondering how worse the lower cost ones can be. If we were going to spend more nights than one, I would have upgraded as the rest of the hotel seems really nice. I would also recommend that you opt for the buffet breakfast as it is really worth it even though it has the same burnt coffee as elsewhere in the country. Recommendation to management: since the electricity turns off several times during the night, please turn off the feature where the TV turns on automatically every time the electricity comes back. It woke us up 5 times during the night until we eventually removed completely the card from the socket.

Sakamanga is a place with a good vibe. It has many rooms with a large price range to accommodate everyone. It has been renovated with taste and though there are maybe a bit too much hanging the wall for a private residence, here it works because it looks like a mini-museum. The location is very central. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is a tasteful buffet and the restaurant has a large menu and it is considered a good restaurant by residents so it is also animated. Maybe the only regret, but it is outside of the hotel’s control, is the air pollution in Antananarivo and so if you are having difficulties with breathing (asthma or other), maybe it’s best to look for hotels in a parc near the airport. I enjoyed my time at Sakamanga.

We needed to travel back to Tana for medical treatment and a local guide brought us to Sakamanga and it was just perfect. For Madagascar it isn't the cheapest place but compared with European prices it's very reasonable. The staff are very friendly and the entrance always has someone outside (it feels very safe). The corridors are like a museum. The restaurant is really very good (try the duck confit) and breakfast is a huge spread. I've already recommended the place to numerous friends. Saka express is also good for something quick to eat (just down the hill).

Stopped here multiple times for the breakfast buffet, which is offered daily. There is a cheerful well-lit restaurant, and then an outside garden for seating. There is an omelette station, a crepe station, freshly squeezed juices, carafes of hot water or coffees. There are danishes, rolls and cold cuts. There is a mango pickle which is *unbelievably * spicy. Treat it with respect! The staff is cheerful and efficient, and this is a beautiful way to begin an adventure in Madagascar. If you have trouble with your knees or hips, this is not a good choice for you: The stairs down to the restaurant are spaced tall, cut from uneven rock, and there is no railing.

The rooms are just fine with malagasy decorations, there are different categories like 20€, 23€, 40€ and 60€ for the night so it's up to you to choose. I've seen a 40€ room and some ~20€, the difference is the mattress and the 20 can be a little smaller. The breakfast buffet is excellent and the restaurants too. Usually they are complete so reserve at least 1day in advance, if you don't, the staff is getting stressed but they do their best to get you a room if possible. The boutique next door (Boutique Sakamanga) is cute but very expensive in comparison with the artisan markets etc. so I can recommend you to have a look at other places, too.

Good selection of food (sea food, meats, vegetarian) at reasonable prices with good service (very quick for Malagasy standards). Atmosphere: relaxed, cozy and familiar. The other restaurant we tried was La Varangue (currently number 1 in Tana) - I prefer however this place. Interior of the hotel is also done in museum style (old money, newspaper, tools and artefacts can be found on the hallways). Why 4 stars? - some of the pork meat was too chewy - my avocado had a bit too much mayo (given that avocado is already quite high in days)

  • Chris Goodrich

Good place, decent rooms, slightly off the main tourist area of Tana. Communication with staff not always easy, but they're very friendly and helpful. Breakfast like 100 feet up the street; dining room food is quite good (includes zebu tartare). Hotel is odd, a combination of old buildings, easy to lose your way even on compact grounds. Fascinating displays of Malagasy culture and history on many hallway walls. Pool seems inoperative, but nice place for lunch.

Ottimo Hotel in centro a Tana, pulito e caratteristico, gestione cordiale. Noi siamo stati fortunat.

We've stayed here for two nights at te beginning and end of our journey trough Madagascar. The location was perfect: in the middle of the city and with a private parking spot. The rooms and the food were very nice. Only the communication at the reception wasn't smooth: they didn't speak English very well and were multiple times too busy to help us.

Third time staying here and great as always. The staff are very accommodating and service is excellent as usual. The hotel has awesome art and history throughout and the rooms are comfortable. I have stayed at many other hotels and saka manga is by far the most reliable and comfortable to stay in. I'll be back the next time I'm in Antanarivo for sure.

Centrally located with a really good restaurant - make sure you book even if staying as gets busy. Rooms are clean and well kitted with everything you need. If you can, book the suite with outside terrace - it's definitely worth the little extra you pay. Nice bar and pool area for relaxing away from the hustle and bustle outside. Lots of nice artifacts give the property character. All in all a very good stay for a few nights.

  • Chris Bing

What a lovely hotel, behind an unimpressive exterior. Lots of artefacts decorating the place. Excellent food in the restaurant. Be prepared for mosquitoes though. Staff friendly and helpful. Bed very comfy, decent shower. Electricity a little unreliable, but likely nothing to do with the hotel. Girlfriend *hated* the parrot though! To be fair, it's a bit annoying when it's biting your shoe, and it is a little aggressive.

  • Samuel Brazier

Cool building, it's several old buildings combined, so there are corridors and passageways inside and outside between them, all joined up with gardens and seating areas. It's full of old artifacts, enough to fill a museum the guidebook said...no kidding. Cute pool and snack bar, amazing buffet breakfast, peacocks in gardens, secured parking across street...once you get through Tana traffic...

Hôtel conforme aux standards internationaux. Le personnel est adorable et très à l'écoute, les chambres sont très confortables, avec eau chaude et pression, électricité et internet en continu. Havre de paix dans le tumulte de la capitale.

Excellent room and service, but I wish I had known Saka Express was closed for renovations, because many popular items on the menu were unavailable (no French fries, no kids burger, no pizza, no sandwiches) . Also, I was disappointed that we couldn't have dinner next to the pool and had to eat in the upstairs restaurant.

  • Liva Jar

The hotel is cool to look at but definitely a big mosquito problem but so does the whole country. The room is equipped with a mosquito net and a plug in that is supposed to repel mosquitoes. The breakfast here is very good though! So even if it is a little expensive, it's definitely worth it.

  • Breda Dular

It is a city inside of the town. Peacefull, quiet, full of creativity and of bright colors. The staff is friendly and helpfull. You won't be dissapointed if you decided to stay here. Just check the room before entering...because they are completely different from each other.

  • Aiza Ikhaanahoyo

Excellent staff, lovely decorations, reliable wifi and hot water. The locations very central but rooms are still quiet. There are a variety of rooms to choose from and a nice interior green space.

I spent Xmas and New Year in Antananarivo, Madagascar and stayed at this quirky hotel right in the centre of town. The food is good and the local beer THB cannot be beaten. The staff always smiling and helpful. My ensuite room was clean but on the small size.

  • Gayatri Kathayat

It is an excellent hotel. Everything in the hotel is just excellent. Great/kind/helpful/polite/friendly people. I really enjoyed my stay within the hotel. No hidden charges, Even the hotel restaurant is great. Thank you to the hotel staff for being so kind :)

Sakamanga in malagasi means blue cat, and this is thge shape of the hasnd soap. They offered us an airport pick up for 18CHF which came very handy as our plane arrived around midnight

  • Michael Roberts

Great place to relax and unwind. The restaurant serves amazing French cuisine, and during the day there is a nice courtyard with a swimming pool. My favourite restaurant in Tana

  • Alex Manea

Rooms are ok but they are a bit smelly and the water was only warm, not hot. The omelet in the morning was great though. Also the decor is interestingand the staff is ok.

A friendly hotel in Tana, you will feel like your home not a hotel I gave 5 stars and it doesn't mean this the best hotel it's according to my feel.

  • Damon Tighe

Clean rooms and lots of charm to the decorations of the grounds and the rooms. Restaurant upstairs serves wonderful food.

Sakamanga also has a practical conference room that offers tranquility and technology in the middle of noisy town
