I booked online Friday night for an appt first thing Sat morning. Had trouble with Bookwell. Couldn’t book multiple services and booked an hour earlier than I could get there. I ended up ringing the salon at least twice before I got there, Sam the owner went above and beyond to help me, but more than that - also to make me feel like a true customer - yes, I was running late, and yes it was a Saturday morning, probably the busiest time of the week for a salon - but Sam took it all in his stride, and showed no attitude or grumpiness with me for being late or ringing too much or anything else. WOW - old fashioned, exceptional customer service does still exist! What followed was the best experience I’ve ever had in a salon that I’ve never been to - Sam himself cut my hair - I asked for a style change. His experience shone through - quietly confident - NOT arrogant like many hairdressers who don’t know you can be - he appeared to read my mind - after a short consultation he jumper to work on my cut. Then he introduced the lovely Marie to me who applied my foile (LOVE them Marie!) and tint, and finished my cut and then blow wave. Sam and Marie delivered exactly the hair cut and colour I wanted! I could not fault a single thing and would highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for a new salon that obviously values it’s clients and prides itself on return business.

I booked my cut with Elaine because I know she is very good, but when I got there someone else cut my hair (don’t know their name). Showed a photo of me with my last cut and asked for the same, but it was SO MUCH SHORTER (up to the end of my ears when the photo I showed was just below my chin). She also did so much thinning on it and I couldn’t speak up because she’d already started and was doing it so fast. I felt like crying because I’ve had a terrible experience with thinning before. I’m embarrassed to go out now because my hair looks like a triangle afro & doesn’t suit me at all. On top of all that, when I walked in they told me they were going to do a scalp treatment because my scalp was dry, just assumed it was part of the hair wash and it was never mentioned that it was going to cost extra. I also felt pressured to buy products and I know I have the right to say no but it wasn’t a nice position to be in at all. And hey, the wash was very lovely & relaxing, the girl who did it was lovely. I’m just very unhappy with my haircut & wasn’t expecting to spend so much money. (I’m a student so things are tight)

I now know why they are at the back of Bourke Rd as opposed to facing it! I note, there was only 3 people getting their hair done in the salon (including me) on Saturday. This establishment is clearly under new management and/or new staff that needed direction on how to wash hair & what leave in conditioner meant! I politely complained to the person washing my hair, and the Asian manager marched on over, acted rudely (and totally out of proportion re scenario) whilst I was defenceless at the basin! She ordered her employee to stop washing my hair and they did not even towel dry it! Yet I did not swear or raise my voice when I complained. However, I was ordered to leave the salon, and told that a minute later considered trespassing on private property I understand why it was so easy to get a Saturday morning appointment there now as it was so bad! It was also a failure in their duty of care in not even towel drying my hair at all ! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING TO THIS SALON. I WOULD GIVE IT A 0 IF IT WAS AVAILABLE . Try Oscar Oscar in Camberwell instead !

Bad experience here left me in tears. I was quoted in person $215 for a colour and cut then after my hair was done I was told it was going to be $245 because my hair is long. Not sure how it could be longer than when I made the appt and was quoted in person. Hairdresser showed up to the salon 10 minutes after my appt was supposed to already have started, no apology. Appt took 3 hours for just a basic all over colour and cut, I’ve had quicker service in much busier salons. The blow wave was probably the worst part. Didn’t get asked where I part my hair , was knocked in the head with an extremely hot hair dryer, mousse was applied to my hair without asking me so it left my hair super coarse and not soft like you’d expect after a hair being at a salon. I was left with an old school style blowout;rough,big, messy hair. I left crying for being overcharged and had to red do my hair and curl it with my own curler at home as I had a wedding that same day. Unfortunately will not return.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE! I booked in for half head of foils yesterday, I was given 20 spaced out foils that are uneven, streaky with dark patches, that is very noticeable. My hair was so poorly washed it left it matted, the hairdresser attempted to brush my hair out with a paddle brush roots to ends, which was painful and broke my hair.I was soaked at the basin and had to re wash my hair this morning as it was so oily. I was billed for half head of "packed in foils" and when I communicated this isn't what I received to the owner(he also did my foils) he toke $10 off my bill and said I I was provided what I was billed for. I felt too uncomfortable to continue the conversation. This morning I tried calling as my hair looks terrible and sent them an email stating what happened and no surprise no one got back to me!

My hair is fine and can be brittle depending on the product used and life’s stresses! I am incredibly fussy so when I came across Second Ave Hair I never looked to another stylist again. Since my first hair cut and colour 5 years ago, my hair has improved in strength and texture. Sam and Chlara know precisely what my hair needs and I am confident in their recommendations every time. I love coming into the salon, the staff are super friendly and always happy to chat.. or leave you in peace if that’s what you like! The salon manager is incredibly hospitable and makes a salon visit feel like I’m catching up with friends :) Booking online is super easy, and the no fuss payment options allows me to confidently pay without effort. Extremely professional hair specialists ! I had my previously damaged hair (by a hair dresser in a different country ) and the owner of this place had specially come in during the time of my appointment and instructed the staff who was colouring my hair. I can’t thank you enough Chalara for being so considerate and taking it seriously which is very rare in any profession these days. Extremely delighted!! I have very thin and unhealthy hair and no one else had cared enough of the condition of my hair before styling and colouring. Products that were recommended are great too. I am already seeing a huge difference in my hair for the first time! You guys are true specialists! Millions stars

I went for a hair trim last week and this place is horrible. The lady who cut my hair didn’t even bother to lift the chair up so I could see my self in the mirror. She had loud music on and would start singing (in a bad voice) which was really annoying. She took about 10-15 mins to cut my hair,had to ask her to make the fringe shorter twice as she probably didn’t hear anything I said over loud music. On top of all this card payment machine was not working so she asked me ,‘honey, can you go bring cash from an ATM?’ . All this for $130 and my hair felt really dry and frizzy after the cut.

The service I received was ok until I said my hair colour had turned out WHITE blonde & nothing like I asked for. Chalara became very annoyed & quite rude. She ignored me for the next two hours while one of the other consultants kindly ‘fixed’ my hair. If this is how you treat your clients no wonder there weren’t many in the store in the FOUR hours I was there. Very disappointing! I had another online booking I had made too & they just sent me a message saying ‘your booking has been cancelled’. As if I would ever return to this salon!!

I booked in last minute for a cut & colour as a new client… I was so surprised by this place but in the best way possible. Joanne cut & coloured my hair and I can say, hands down, this is absolutely the best haircut I’ve had for a few years. Joanne was so precise and accommodating to my wants and needs. I don’t have the most common haircut and I can get extremely fussy about it but she was so understanding. I could not recommend this place more. I even booked my next appointment before leaving.

Thank you very much Elaine!!!! You tamed my tresses and smoothed the tousled mop!!!! All with incredibly gentle hands. You did a beautiful job. I have tons of curly, fine hair and I cannot recommend your work more highly. The hair wash and scalp massage was perfection. Thorough, and did I say gentle? I am amazed at some “gifts” people have. You have the gift of making tangles and curls blissfully easy and peaceful. I WILL be back. Flawless work. Lovely staff, the whole experience was excellent.

Be prepared to wait....! Booked online night before for morning wash and blow dry. Waited 30 mins before ‘told’ by owner to go to the basin. No apology for delay, nor acknowledgement of same. Not cool. My star rating in no way reflects the work of the lovely young English stylist who was delightful and did a v.nice job (thank you, Abbey). This salon clearly over-schedules its services (and seems quite ok about it). Owner needs to brush-up on her customer liaison skills. Won’t return.

The team at Second Ave Hair are the colour and cut specialists. They have been my hairdresser for the last 10 years. The team will assess your hair and determine what needs to be done to give your hair the shine, colour or calmness it needs. Through their care and experience, they just know. I always walk out feeling fresh and rejuvenated. Would highly recommend Second Ave Hair.

Running a hr late And had 1 hairdresser for every 2 customers Clearly a business tactic for saving money Used a used towel to dry my hair When we told them about this They just said they were busy and denied the used towel thing Definitely not coming back Would give 0 stars for service Cost me 130 bucks for this experience

Second Avenue has looked after my hair for many years. My Colour is always fabulous and the attention to detail is great. I can trust the team to guide me on my hair colour choices. Staff are always friendly and will always make sure I look amazing before I leave. I would not trust my hair with any other salon.

Highly recommended - extremely friendly & professional team. I walked in and they managed to squeeze in an appointment, despite the busy schedule. Exceptional service from Chalara, Sam and their superb team in Camberwell. Sometimes I have to wait a bit for service as they are a thriving and personable business - it is always worth it to get the best cut, colour, chat and style. Always an enjoyable experience to emerge looking fabulous.

I had a cut/blow dry on Saturday and really enjoyed my experience. The hairdresser Joanne really understood what I was asking for. I've washed my hair since the appointment and the hairstyle still looks just like I wanted it. I am very happy and will be back.

Have been there 3 times. Each time I have been made to wait an hour to an hour and an half even though I booked well ahead. It’s was not a good atmosphere in the salon when I was there at least. But I was pleased with the color however the cost was too high.

Second Avenue hair has been fantastic since I discovered them 2-3 years ago. Always attentive & they have cut my short hair to a style that I love. After years of roaming around trying to find a salon that was up to the task I am now very content.

I got my hair done (full head foils) with Asami today and I really love the result. She is very kind and knowledgeable about what she is doing. I will come back and recommend Asami to everyone who wants to do their hair colored. Thank you Asami☺️

I have been to both salons and all the stylists are so welcoming, they make sure that you achieve what you want with your hair. They have done amazing with my hair both times and I have loved the results.

Had my hair done by mona it was the best colour and blowave ever she's very experienced and knows what she's doing lots of knowledge about shampoos and treatment will certainly go back highly recommend

I asked for a full bleach job and they did a fantastic job, even kept working past closing hours to make sure my hair was perfect. My hair is still healthy and perfect thanks to them!
