I got my key stuck in the lock of the tailgate of my truck—womp womp. I called about ten different companies where they either didn’t answer, didn’t call me back, or were charging an arm and a leg for the job. Sharps Brothers was my last call of the day. They not only answered my call but gave me a shockingly great estimate for the job compared to what I had been receiving. When I arrived, Steve immediately went out to check my issue. Within 5 minutes he had my tailgate unlocked and the key out. Steve then noticed that the locking mechanism on my tailgate was actually broken, so he told me he’d be more than happy to replace that part for me if I found it at an auto parts store. He even gave me his phone number so that I could text him a picture of the part I found to confirm that it was the correct piece. Once I found the part and made my way back to Sharps Brothers, Steve took about another 5 minutes to replace the part. I was absolutely amazed that not only did Steve help me get the key out of my tailgate, he helped me find the broken part, AND replaced it for me. I hope I never need a locksmith again, but if I do, I know exactly who I will be calling. They are hands down the most knowledgeable, helpful, and best cost you’ll find!
Great guy, great deal. I'd purchased some keys online and programmed them myself so all I needed was a key to be cut. However, you'll soon find that the hardware stores won't cut your key for you unless you bought it there. I drove into Sharp Brothers and told him I needed 2 keys cut, but I wanted to have him do one first to see if I'd programmed it correctly. He was skeptical, apparently the method I'd used (open door 6 times, press pedal, do a dance, shake some sage) rarely works. He cut it anyway as a test for me. It totally cranked the truck and I had him do my 2nd key. Both keys worked flawlessly and I was in and out in minutes. Heck, it took me way longer to walk to the truck and crank it then it did for the locksmith to cut my keys. Thanks guys, good to have a locksmith with a brick and mortar location.
I had an appointment with the Buick dealership to get my car key and fob copied. It was going to cost me about $150. That's a lot for me, so I started shopping around. My co-worker recommended this shop. I decided to just get my key copied and not the fob, it's really just for emergencies anyway. The interior of the building is really charming, reminiscent of old south Austin culture with lots of neat keys hanging on the walls. The shop owners and their dog were friendly and charming as well. I was in and out of there within 10 minutes- maybe more like 5. The key only cost me $27 and it works like a charm. THANK YOU SHARP BROS!
I went here to get an extra car key made. My car key has a fob, I had been using these 2 new fobs that I programmed myself for a few months so they definitely worked. So, I asked just for a new key to be cut and I was specific about NOT needing any programming to be done. I was told, "That's not how that works." As a woman, I am already nervous about interactions with men in the automotive industry even when I know I am right. I should have stood my ground and not let myself be belittled and overcharged. I am not even sure what he "programmed" because both fobs were already operational. Don't go here.
After over a month of going back and forth with Cannon (Gun Safe) about my fully loaded safe that wouldn’t open whatsoever, I called Steve and he was able to help over the phone. He told me a simple trick to get it done and it worked - safe opened! Now Cannon is sending their rep to repair safe next month but I was able to access what I needed. Steve was beyond friendly, professional, and willing to help - all at no cost. I will definitely use Steve and his team in the future when needed! Highly recommend.
The Company I work for hired sharp brothers to come change a lock or rekey our commercial building. They offered flexible scheduling and Steve was the absolute best. My team and I just adored him. He worked quickly and efficiently around our feline and canine patients entering and exiting through the same door he was there to service.. we will definitely use them again and recommend anyone else with commercial or residential key lock needs.
I have not used Sharp Brothers, but I called them to ask them about how a locksmith opens a locked house door. My mom had locked herself out and been charged $399 by some other company and I call Sharp Brothers to see if that was normal. I found out that the person who was sent to my mom's house did not know how to open a house lock properly and charged her way to much. If we are ever in need of a locksmith we will be calling them!!!!
Steve is beyond friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. He could have taken my money to repair/duplicate a specialty key but instead recommended that I search for a replacement through the European manufacturer (Impressive that he could tell it was European just from a picture of the key). While I didn't spend any of my money at Sharp, I definitely feel like I owe them one. I'll be back for any key issues going forward!
These guys are awesome. Had 9 locks with 2 keys per lock. They also fixed the strike plates. Now they aline properly, and can close and lock the door without messing with it. All the doors work properly. They were in and out in about 1½ hrs.. showed up exactly on time to. Friendly and professional. Price was more than fair. Less than the competition. I highly recommend this company for your locksmith needs..
I asked them to cut keys that are labeled non duplicate keys. They refused, not sure how they do a lot of revenue, but I went to cothrons. They patent ran out.. not sure what she wouldn’t help Update: I didn’t have a letter for cothrons. They cut the key cause the patent is expired and duplication isn’t restricted. I was also driving a company car, she was just sitting down and didn’t seem to want to work.
I needed a lock changed on a unit and Steve was great. He was able to do the job quickly under 5 minutes and spent the rest of the time educating on the process and how he got into the business; he has been around it since childhood as his father was in the same line of work. This outfit has been around for 40 years here in Austin. I definitely will be using them as my go-to for all future jobs.
I locked my keys in my car this morning at the gym and called multiple locksmiths in the area, but was given 2-hour wait times, and I couldn’t be late for work. I called Sharp Brother’s and got an answer right away. The technician showed up in 20min, opened my car, and didn’t overcharge. Thrilled with the service and will use them again if (when) I lock myself out of my car again!
I had somebody break into my pickup truck and drill out my ignition. I called Sharp Brothers and Phil came by to look at my ignition problem. He was very helpful and provided me with the insight I needed to fix my ignition. The next day, I brought in a new cylinder with my key and had it programmed by him. All this was great and quick service. Thank you Sharp Brothers!!
I called these guys in a panic one morning, because while I thought my puppy was safe for just a few minutes inside my car still on with the AC blasting, I didn't account for his ability to jump up and hit the lock button with his paws. They came to my rescue quickly, and also assured me that this happens all the time, and I was not a horrible puppy mom like I felt!
Locked out of my car in Bastrop. Steve Sharp of Sharp brothers came out and got me back into my car. Service was quick, friendly, and professional. Informed me that I may be able to claim against my roadside service. Bill was what was stated in quote. No upcharge or upsell. Found by their reviews, well earned stars. Will be first on the list if needed again.
I just had two Ford expedition keys cut and programmed and the service was just as courteous, fast, and reasonably priced as they have been for the last 30 years that I have been going to Sharps. Less expensive than the other big locksmith in town. A bonus is he suggested I buy the keys and fobs from Amazon to save some money which I did. How good is that?
I would give 7 Stars if I could. Extremely knowledgeable and professional. I deal with many contractors and Judy and Phil are exemplary. I would recommend their service without hesitation and will absolutely call on them again when the need arises. Prices are extremely reasonable as well. Another unadvertised benefit is they do not use a dispatch service.
The absolute best and most professional. I called multiple locksmiths and they either had to call me back for a quote (which I didn't have time to wait for), or the cost was ridiculous. Sharp Bros offered a quote over the phone and one that was fair. Same-day, got me back into my Tacoma in 20 minutes. Highly recommend. Ask for Steve, he's the best!
Incredible place! I was referred to them by another locksmith. Last week I had my truck broke into and had the lock cylinder damaged. I took it to them, and they fixed it in a few minutes. They were incredibly kind, helpful, and honest. They are so honest they said, "order it online and bring it in. It will save you money." Such nice people.
My key was not done exactly right the first time and the guys here wanted to resolve the issue as fast as possible. I got the car over there the next day, and they got the key out of the ignition quickly and attempted to help me solve the other lock issues I was having with my car. Couldn't ask for better service. Highly recommended!
I’ve used their services a few times and they are always quick, professional, and friendly. All at a good price. Most recently, I bought a new ignition lock cylinder for an older car and took it to these Sharp guys for them to recode it so my old key would work. Now I don’t need two sets of keys for my vehicle. Thank you!
I am a contractor with many years of experience, and when I got stumped by some new high-end hardware, I brought it to Steve at Sharp Bros. He sat down with me and personally showed me how everything worked and went together. His knowledge saved me tons of time and heartache and I'm forever a customer now! Thanks Steve!
Fast, friendly and honest service. This place has some of the best prices In Austin. Most places will price gauge you. They quoted $47 but when we got there he was honest and corrected himself and told us the price was actually $35. Me and my husband appreciated the honesty and will be back for any key related services.
These folks are amazing and so friendly. I had an issue with my Cannon Gun safe and Steve wanted to help me over the phone at no cost before heading out because he was sure I could do it on my own. A few hours after trying all of his tips, my safe is open. I couldn’t recommend these guys enough.
These folks are awesome!! Great people who aim to truly help you and not rip you off!! That forever have my loyalty! They cut a new key for my truck and it was a difficult process but truly professional at all times and just get nice! Thank you for your assistance today!!
Lovely people + fantastic service. I've been into the shop and have also had the folks come out to my house, each time you're greeted warmly and kindly. Have come to these folks for replacement keys, installing door locks, and getting advice on car hitches. Great folks!
The folks at Sharp Brothers saved my bacon this week when a door knob abruptly stopped working, rendering the front door permanently locked and unusable. They were helpful, fast, affordable and in the neighborhood. Exceedingly grateful and pleased with the results.
Best locksmith around and grateful to have them in the neighborhood. Good prices and extensive services with friendly service. Made repairs to our pool entry gate & lock when others couldn’t and have provided many emergency and non-emergency locksmith services.
This quirky little shop has been in our neighborhood for almost 50 years. The people are friendly and quick to help their neighbors! I hope it, like many small businesses in our community, will survive the pandemic to flourish for another 50 years!
We had an unfortunate break in, and had a security threat to our business. Steve came by within an hour of us calling him to help us out, and got us taken care of ASAP! We do appreciate his timeliness, professionalism and knowledge in this field.
Steve came out and diagnosed my safe.. He didn't charge me for the original visit and came back on time to install my mechanical tumbler.. This is the most honest experience I've had with a service company in many years. Thanks Steve!!! You ROCK
These are the real pros! Purchased a used 2019 vehicle with push-to-start that only came with one key fob. Ordered a replacement online and Sharp Brothers helped me program it. Fully functional, good price and I was in and out in 20 minutes.
These guys are awesome! Very helpful and answered all my questions, regardless of how dumb the questions were. Better prices for a unique key than I could find online. I will definitely use them again if I have any other key related needs.
Been there only once, but got fast service, good price. They made 4 keys for different locks... car... home... padlock... all worked smoothly first time. Recommended. Editing this review: Been there twice since. Treated w/ same fairness.
Great service and very knowledgeable owners. Not only did they rebuild my old Chevy truck tumbler in a timely manner I also enjoyed looking at the old locks and keys they have in their shop. Highly recommended and keep shopping local.
Quick response, fast and effective service. Local family business with humans answering the phone… I lost the key to my bike lock. They had the right tools to grind through my kryptonite u-lock. Only took about 5 minutes.
These guys can make it work! I’ve had 2 different lock systems reconfigured (don’t know the terminology) and had a great experience both times. Pricing is reasonable while professionalism and expertise is phenomenal.
I called this locksmith when I was in a difficult spot and they were willing to come right away. Although I figured it out on my own and did not use their service, impressed by their responsiveness - thank you!
Great but straightforward customer service. When he couldn't help me with a new fob for my car he told me how to go about getting one and to come back and he could program it for $290 less than the dealer.
The machine at Home Depot couldn’t read my key that was slightly bent and recommended me sharp brothers. I was in and out within 2 minutes and satisfied. Thank you will definitely recommend!!
Reliable, qualified, honest, and friendly...Love this family business. We have tried other but Sharp is the best and are the only ones that remain in our in our phone list. Recommend highly.
Best locksmith in Austin. This is a family owned business. The owners are very expert and friendly. They provided an excellent service to replace my car key. Good price. Highly recommend!
My second time here and service was fantastic! I needed an extra key for my car to sell it and it was done in 3 minutes! They guys have unlocked my loyalty, ha! Definitely recommend!
The lady who took my call was so rude that I ended up going with one of their competitors who wasn't rated as high and was more expensive. Talked her way right out of my business.
Sharp Brothers are incredible! Needed a couple spare keys for my apartment. Great service, quality and price. Two key copies total price: $5.74! Wow! Both worked perfectly!
Sharp's is family owned and operated (just like us). We love to see other family businesses thrive in Austin and are thankful to have their expertise a few blocks away.
We have relied on Sharp Bros service for years and they're always available and always affordable. They'll always be the first place we call for our lock and key needs!
They do an amazing job. I have used them for a couple of years now. When I call, they arrive quickly and get the job done fast. I can’t recommend them enough!
Great service, dropped off my ignition in the overnight box and it was ready the next morning before noon. They made me a key that cothrons couldn't do...
They made a new set of keys for my vehicle roof box + roof rack after the original set went missing. Very friendly & helpful staff. Highly recommend!
They've been there for over 40 years. Kind of gruffy owners though. Probably time for them to hire some people who look like they want to be there.
Excellent service! Key works perfectly and the shop owner was very friendly and cut a bunch of keys for me on the spot. Highly recommend!
I went in to have a couple keys copied that were too “uncommon” for the minute key kiosk to do. Service was extremely fast and friendly.
SO FAST! My dummy self locked my keys in my car on riverside and they came in 10 minutes!!! Phil was so nice and so helpful
They were very helpful and finished my key quickly so I didn't have to drive 60 miles to come back the next day

Super friendly, went above and beyond to help.
Quick, efficient & affordable!
