The nurses and doctor were very understanding and helpful. The staff were very kind and I have no complaints about anyone that works here. My only complaint has to do with wait times. While I was to believe I would get in within 2 hours as the wait time stated, I ended up waiting 4 hours in the waiting room. I thought once i was in, things would go over quickly. However, it took a while to get blood work results and I got a little irritated after 3 more hours. I should not have left the mess that I did but I was hungry, my phone was dead and I had nothing to help me pass the time. Still doesn't excuse my actions and the staff was still super understanding and kind even though I was visibly upset. If I had known I would have spent my whole evening there, I would have prepared more. But it took several hours longer than expected. I just wish they would stick to their times more so I could prepare myself for a long stay or not. I thought it would be at least less than 4 hours, but I will be more prepared next time as their wait times can be incredibly inaccurate. Again, I respect the staff for doing their best. But they need to work on wait times and have more services available to those who have to wait longer than others. Such as a sanitary place to obtain food and beverage. Possibly a convenient shop that has phone chargers available for purchase. I believe that would help pass the time for those not prepared.

This is the WORST clinic in the Canada!! We just traveling in this city but everything comes with the bad happened. My friend got very sick and got cold suddenly and then we decided to go to the clinic nearby around, we already making very sure about the insurance if it’s possible with that. Besides we taking so long to waiting, the place she pay the bill its not even at the cashier, there was the emergency doctor who called ALLAN something got her paid up 1200 dollars like a privately behavior and keep saying plus pushing: its okay your insurance will cover up, Just like a liar would said. And the thing is the insurance reject the request many times because the files aren’t what they need, These receipts were not officially issued to us by the hospital, the receipt that the doctor did for us now is not recognized. What a funny story, she’s the one who keep saying the insurance will go through everything but didn’t get us any records to apply the insurance and this is what happened right now. It is really a legal matter that a doctor get people paid individually instead at the cashier? Are we being lied to just because we're international students? We've been to hospitals in Toronto before but never had anything like this. Reasonable makes us suspect the doctor is taking private money and deceive consumer.

This is a disease truly that takes your will away, if you have never been touched by thus curse, be grateful... Here they focus on more than prescribing Methadone and Suboxone, lifesaving medications that wean clients off opiates without the euphoria of other drugs. They have recovery programs where they teach Dialectical Behavioural Therapy skills, and connect clients to other resources. A truly underappreciated and resource! If anyone in your life is struggling with this curse of curses, then now you know where to point them if they have the will!

The care I received yesterday worked. I arrived at S.M.Chumir in pain and full of anxiety. My experience although not perfect, I don’t think that should be the goal, was perspective changing. I was amazed at how each and every staff member I observed/saw was calm, kind, and kept composure. It did take long time for me to see a doctor, the timer was not accurate. But I recognize that this urgent care facility is managing and helping some of our most vulnerable in the city with pose and patience. The patients I watched come in knew where to go, what they needed, were shown respect, and remained respectful. It is, unfortunately, a busy place, but a wildly important one. Once I saw the nurse and doctor, I was treated with respect, shown concern, and able to laugh together about what I was experiencing. Although I left with big emotions and tears (darn anxiety) I had what I needed, and 12 hours after treatment I am healing. And that was the goal. I am proud to live in a city where a place like this exists, and thankful I was heard and am beginning to feel better. Thank you!

Hit and miss experiences with the urgent care at Sheldon Chumir. I have gone there several times over the years and have had great and awful care. Two examples below. Great: doctors diagnosed a pulmonary embolism and gave me an immediate CT on site. Fantastic physician and nurses. Was given referrals for appropriate follow up. Awful: I was hit in the face with a car door and had a cut near my eye, severe swelling and bruising. I am on blood thinner meds and was told to get it checked out (I have a severe blood clotting disorder ). The physician at Chumir Urgent Care looked me up and down and made an assumption based on my appearance (purple hair). He suggested I was in a fight outside the safe injection site and was drug seeking. He wouldn't even examine my face. Unbelievable. I have found the care is a crapshoot. Most of the doctors (and nurses) there are great but very overworked. There are a few that are arrogant, dismissive and really should not be working in that setting.

My daughter broke her nose, and went into the emergency department. The nurse knew immediately that it was broke. But they had her sit in the waiting area for 5 hours, and she watched as people who came in long after her were seen before her. The one nurse asked why she was still there, and she had to go to triage again, just to be told there was 2 people ahead of her. 8 more people later and of course my daughter breaks down crying as she's in immense pain. They finally put her in the back only for her to be waiting another 2 hours. She kept being told that they didn't know when they would be able to get to her. She finally up and left and we are now in our way to the South Calgary Campus. People who looked fine were getting in ahead of her. She has an obvious broken nose. There is absolutely no excuse for this. I am irate that she had to wait so long, she had to up and leave. I would avoid this alleged hospital. Shame on you all.

Some harm reduction staff were friendly willing to answer questions eagerly while some were not, the non main entrance were not clear on what services they provide. Wait times are always long here, since covid others cannot really go in with the person they brought in and I understand to an extent but when dealing with mental health and addictions it can be important to have someone with them. I think it is great that they give out harm reduction suplies but alot people do not inject, they smoke. Its important to give out the full harm reduction set including tinfoil when dealing with people because it can cause users to feel pushed to inject. It can be hard to ask for help to begin with. I aplaud fast response times to od nearby but wonder why there are only safe consumption sites for injections and no safe space for those who choose not to inject.

The Sheldon Chumir has been one of the places in Calgary that has been essential and very positive In my life. I have received excellent dental care, mental health and addiction support, and developed excellent and professional relationships with my doctors and peer support workers alike. I'm also a harm reduction advocate and this building has a safe injection site as well as a dispensary for needles and other forms of safe to use narcotic tools. The only problem I have with the entire building is the emergency room / hospital section. I don't understand why but the health care is despicable and the treatment and service is substandard at best. The wound clinic is excellent however.

My grandma came here because she was having health issues .... She collapsed on the floor and didn't make it..... But during the process the Doctor on sight called my brother right away and told him they were doing everything they could and I know they did. These nurses and Doctors have to deal with a lot, and if I could I would bring cookies and flowers to everyone because when we came to see her after they were all so nice and I felt like they all had beautiful souls❣️the doctors and nurses that have to deal with idiots on the daily makes me sad because those hero's deserve the world. Ty for do as much as you could !! I love you all please be safe while you walk this earth ❤️❤️

My mom is a chemo pt. She came here as she wasnt feeling good after her treatment, she was directed to come here by her chemo dr. Turned out no one there knew how to help her, kept her there for 13hrs, did nothing, she had extremely high bllod pressure 180/something to the point they were concerned but gave her nothing and sent her home..my mom went the next day to see her dr as she didnt recieve any help from the hospital and they werw shocked nothing was given as she could have had a heart attack due to the high blood pressure....if you need a check up this is the place to go but if youre sick stay away, you'll leave with no help or answers. If i could give zero stars i would.

I took my partner to the ER as she was having significant trouble breathing. Doctor Grant Kaiser determined it was a cold, and to “keep doing what you’re doing.” When I raised concerns about her inability to speak due to the severity of her shortness of breath and the possibility of an x ray, they were shot down. Fast forward to the next day where I booked an appointment with her doctor as soon as I could. Turns out she had aspirated liquid into her lungs and had to be taken by ambulance to emerge. I am sending this message to raise awareness, as a potentially life threatening incident was being passed off after a minute assessment as a cold.

Was taken here by EMS service who was great fully treated the accident and found the solution and one was dress in military uniform who is also a teacher ‍ mentor and the clinic was the downtown urgent care clinic who treated you descend, the nurse was friendly and patient friendly and even the GP was very helpful in dealing with the situation.in all they got lot of sense of humour only issue is they were of street people, out place people including those who are drug addicted . Bone dislocation and fractures were found and how they treated you was respectful

  • Natasha de costa

I brought my son in and in the line to wait for him to be checked in, he almost fell in pain because of his chest. When they called us to come back, the lady bringing us to the back asked "does your son really need to sit in the wheel chair" YES he does!!!! Then the male nurse came in and said "your son can't walk?" Then called me a over baring mother. Are you serious!!!! you are here to help us, not make inappropriate comments. Sorry I care my son is coughing blood and his chest hurts. Don't come here unless you want comments like that. Completely unprofessional

  • cyano

Went for a ct, which is always a big deal for me since my veins tend to collapse while being injected. Aside from being super kind, understanding and really empathetic about my concerns, they did everything humanly possible to prevent it from happening. They explained every step taken in order to make sure it would not cause any issues this time, re-assuring me the entire way. I have never been treated so well and sincerely felt like a human-being, not a number.

  • Darlene Dodge

Security, was disrespectful, rude and lazy. I sat and watch them while waiting for a person in Emerg. for almost 4 hrs. They blew people off when asking questions,or the aid in directions with older people. Also watch a lady passout in stand position to start, and the security lady slowly walked over and gave her the beans for it. Awful. It's your job to offer assitance with respect and diginity along with safety to staff and the public.

  • Holly Leanne

i have had to come here numerous times in the past few weeks due to covid induced extreme panic attacks. everyone was so kind and did what they could to try and keep me as comfortable as they could. i was treated with dignity and compassion. my only complaint is wait times, but all things considered i think they are doing the best with the resources they have. thank you to all urgent care staff! i am so grateful for your help!

  • Sundus Kharbat

Way long wait time, lots of drunk and homeless at night, the waiting wasn't really full maybe 6 ppl in total but still they didn't call anyone inside. After a while the waiting area was filled and then we started seeing nurses coming to take patients. Anyway we didn't get the chance to see a doctor as I think my old mother in pain wasn't enough to be an urgent case to see. Would alberta health pay me back the parking

  • Arsalan Jawad

I once went to the urgent care centre in this hospital and had to wait for nearly 10 hours. Today I came with an appointment for some lab tests and I still have to wait. It’s been an hour over my appointment time AND I showed up 20 minutes before my appointment, and I am still waiting. Either this hospital is severely under staffed OR there are just wayy to many patients in Calgary and not enough hospitals.

  • Anne Bouscal

Waited about 3 1/2 hours to see a doctor which was considerably less than I expected. It was a very busy place. I had brought a cup of tea and crossword puzzle to pass the time because I knew that my issue, although important, was not urgent. I watched staff assist a variety of individuals. I am very impressed by all staff (including security) who were consistently firm, but kind and patient with everyone.

  • Julian C

2 nd time there and the last... First was in 2010 and waited all night... This time only went there because was showing 2 h 30 minutes waiting time. After admission went to 4 hours and then 5 etc all the way to 11 hours... That is unacceptable. Also there is a shelter there and lots of intoxicated people who use that waiting area as shelters and also take patients time... avoid it if you can...

  • Bobby G

I had to have a wire removed from my foot on Thursday that had punctured my foot. Amanda the young nurse was a breath of fresh air. She welcomed me right away and showed such compassion and just a true professional. I don’t remember my doctors name but she was the same way. She quickly addressed the situation and cleared up my challenge. Thank you for the amazing service ladies.

  • Anonymous

The nurses and doctors here are amazing! I went during the week around 10 and I was in and out in less than 2 hours. The nurses and doctor who saw me were kind, caring and listened to my concerns and did not rush me through. As someone who has seen their fair share of doctors throughout the years, I really appreciate the care they gave me during my visit here. Thank you!

The wait is terrifyingly long. I Arrived on 10:30 pm and left on 7:00 am the next day. I waited for over 8 hours and didn’t even see a doctor. There were more security staff and peace officers than medical personnel on the scene. The place doesn’t feel like a hospital, it’s more of a rehabilitation facility crowded with drug addicts. Won’t recommend it to anyone.

  • JSB CUISINE

ER wait times were typical for a Sunday. I was seen after a couple hours. Dr. Garth Smith is a dream and we are lucky to have him here. Excellent bedside manner. He took the time to explain my condition well beyond his shift ended. With that being said I hope I don’t have to see him again but, if I ever need emergency medical attention I hope I get this doctor.

  • M S

Terrible wait time at this place even though they are not busy. We had to wait over 5 hours to be seen by a doctor. There are a lot of homeless people in there and because they want to warm up and sit inside, they lie about having “painful problems” and are then given priority before you who doesn’t lie about their issues. The system is broken.

  • GermanGiirl Manitobaa

Great Location downtown right on 4 Street! Very nice park across the street, Doctors in Urgent Care are caring and overall friendly Especially Dr. Kaiser and Dr. Raj!! I like they have a Lab on 3rd Floor as well! other than usually wait times... it's a good place to see a Doctor!! just wish they cleaned up better around the Injection site!

  • Arroyo Spero

There’s a public health dental clinic in here. The care I received by the staff and dentists was masterful! The hygienist taught me how to take care of my teeth after years of neglect. The dentist diagnosed my issue and corrected it quickly. I will always have gratitude for what they did for me and the lines of people waiting. Thank you.

  • Jenn Tran

Wait times are pretty long here (depending on why you went to the hospital) BUT the nurses and doctors here are amazing. I did have to wait 4 hours and by the time I got in it was around 10pm. Everyone that helped me was so kind, helpful and patient despite how late it was getting too. The only thing is the long wait time.

  • Tara Dee

I’ve been here about 3 times, the doctors have always been awesome and super kind. I went today and the doctor I had was incredible, and same with the nurse. The wait times are long during the days. But I usually try to come later at night. (Today I had no choice) I was there for about 5-6 hours during the peak times.

  • Ezadeen Ghbari

Waited almost two hours to be seen by the triage nurse is unacceptable. There was only three people ahead of us and the nurse wasted almost an hour with one patient. I took my wife to another hospital which had a longer wait time but she was seen by the triage team within minutes and she was admitted right away.

  • Krista Willott

If you have ANY intense pain DO NOT go here. I went in today with a suspected Pulmonary Embolism and have had 2 before. At times my pain was so bad a was audibly wailing. I was given 2 extra strength Tylenol and a muscle relaxant. Even if the doc wanted a CT it wasn't possible because the machine broke. …

  • A N F

Not even one star is deserved. The nurses talk and gossip poorly about patients, none of them are happy being there it’s very obvious & they all seem very burnt out and not truly caring about patient wellbeing. Don’t come here unless absolutely necessary & if you do, don’t expect top tier care and treatment

  • Petia Hristova

The lab is great and both the reception staff and collectors are patient ,kind , and polite. Got a great patient experience from Janice at the lab today. Very painless and quick blood collection, I am usually nervous about such appointments and Janice made me feel comfortable.

  • Robedooze

The place is really raciest, every time I went there with my child, I need to wait too long to see a physician, even with a severe pain, some nurses there really rude, I’m sure it’s because my religion, it’s horrible place to go with a severe pain specially with a kids.

  • D L

Very nice staff but wait times are ridiculous. You should add at least 2 hours onto what the wait time is saying. I showed up at 10 this morning. Wait time said 1 hour and 45 minutes. I had to leave after 4 hours before seeing a doctor because my parking ran out.

  • Michaela Lewis

I have nothing but good things to say about the care I recieved here. In a time of crisis when I needed help and didn't know where to even begin, I was treated with real care and concern. The staff were genuine and they helped me get resources immediately.

  • Jasmine

Seriously the ABSOLUTE WORST hospital in the city unless you are overdosing on their front door(which I have seen 4 of in the last 2 hours) you really don’t matter as a human. Don’t bother bringing a support person because they won’t let them in.

  • Oleksandra M

Booked an appointment, on the date and time of the appointment - no one was there , turned out there also no appointment booked for me for that day, and there were literally no appointments booked for me ever. Lady on the phone was super rude

  • Lauren Brady

Waiting times were reasonable by urgent care standards. Staff were very polite and kind despite the onslaught of disruptive/sober-challenged individuals who made their presence known in the waiting room. I wish them all a merry Christmas.

  • Franklin

I wait 6 hours in pain in the EM while homeless and addicts get first class treatment with free narcotics injected. Socialism Update: its gotten worse. Calgary downtown is the third world. Shutdown the unsafe injection drug den

  • Mr. Creep cat

I went there cause I need serious medical attention and waited 4hrs for the doctor to see me and said it's nothing and ask to come back if it gets worse!!! This hospital is the worse and there's addicts outside too hanging around

  • Christy D

Went in for stomach issues. Everyone from front desk, nurses, doctors and security handled everything with utmost compassion and care. The doctors and nurses are very attentive and empathetic. I felt very safe and well cared for.

  • Gavin

Just amazing staff. The mental health department is a god send for people who need. I dealt with Kelly with my latest episode and she was such an amazing and compassionate woman. I would give 10 stars if I could

  • Sai Chandra

If you are suffering from anything, Just suffer through your pain rather than going to this place. Because this place will kill you by making you wait 8hrs after giving an appointment for early in the day.

  • Ahmad Rahmati

They should change the name from Urgent Care to Grave care. After waiting for 5 hours they are telling us that “our waiting time is 9 hours if can’t wait, you can see your family doctor.”

  • Linda May Smith

I wish I had known years ago that dental assistance is available for adults. My teeth got so bad. Thanks to Sheldon Chumir I was able to get the help I needed.

  • Colton Hogge

Horrible wait times. Honestly? Hire more doctors. 5 hours to see if my infection is spreading is ridiculous. Haven’t even seen a dr. No nurses, nothing.

  • Thulio Guirelle Horta

The people here are very kind and helpful. It was the first time we came to the lab and the nurse was awesome. Great job. Thx.

  • Jopie Karman

Easy to find this building, find free parking one block pass pay parking lot next to 1315-5th Street SW, 2 hours free parking.

  • Olli

The nurses and staff were so sweet and human with me it helped ease my stress so much as hospitals make me feel nervous
