To preface this review; I have previously had many positive and helpful consultations with this pharmacy staff. They are generally knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. Today however I had an experience with a pharmacist there that was none of those things. I waited at the consultation counter till the little old man pharmacist (white hair) was able to help me. However he basically refused to do that. I explained my situation, that I was in quite a bit of pain, and that I was hoping he could suggest some none prescription alternatives to my antibiotics as I could not get in contact with my doctor or dentist for the next few days and my condition is worsening. He was not familiar with my condition, did not try to familiarize himself or even check his system. Instead he repeatedly told me all he could do was send a renewal request to my doctor. Which he did do. I explained again that I was not there for a renewal but rather a consultation, his "expert" advice. He continued to refuse to help me telling me instead to call my doctor (knowing i cannot). His duty of care was posted behind him on the wall and I can assure you he fell short of this baseline criteria. No "bedside manner" or customer service skills or even basic humanity. The photo attached is the duty of care posted on the wall behind him, he met none of the criteria hanging over his own head. For reference I did walk down the street to the Rexall pharmacy, which is not even my own, and yet the pharmacist there was very helpful. She looked at my old prescription bottle, took the time to look some things up in her system, and provided me with some advice and alternatives I could implement immediately. This is all I was looking for *at my own pharmacy*, but did not receive thanks to that tiny white haired old man pharmacist. Do better, peoples health is in your hands, you have a duty of care. Do your job.
My recent trip to Shoppers Drug Mart around 9pm presented a somewhat mixed experience that captured the essence of its bustling late-night appeal. The store was alive with activity, undoubtedly a testament to its popularity even during those hours. While I was ultimately able to locate my desired items, a few observations left me with a slightly conflicted impression. As I stepped into the store, the throng of fellow shoppers navigating the aisles was hard to miss. It was evident that Shoppers Drug Mart continues to serve as a go-to destination for a diverse range of needs, regardless of the hour. The vibrant atmosphere and the hustle and bustle of patrons added a dynamic energy to the shopping environment. However, my enthusiasm was tempered by the store’s appearance, which seemed a tad unkempt. Throughout my journey, I noticed occasional disarray on the shelves and areas that could use a bit of tidying up. While this didn’t necessarily hinder my ability to locate the items on my list, it did contribute to an overall perception of the store feeling slightly disorganized. The pharmacy, in particular, stood out as a focal point of activity. It was abundantly clear that the pharmacy staff were working tirelessly to cater to the needs of a high number of customers. Unfortunately, this appeared to be a double-edged sword, as the influx of visitors seemed to outpace the available resources. The pharmacy was noticeably busy, and it gave off an impression of being understaffed, resulting in extended waiting times and an air of busyness that permeated the area.
The Post Office at this location is absolute mayhem, and has been for some time. It attracts nothing but unprepared and uninformed customers. What’s worse? The employees make zero efforts to get the lines moving. On several occasions, I was there 30+ minutes waiting for simple drop-offs and scans. Planning on dropping off and leaving? Sure, you can do that, but they won’t make the effort to scan your parcels afterward. So if it’s on a Friday, there’s no actual confirmation of receipt until the following Monday evening (if lucky). It starts from the top, this place needs new ownership, management and some staff; a complete overhaul. BUT, it’s Rideau, it falls into the stereotypical stigma that comes with the area. I’ve since found a much better post office and will never return to this place. If you have all the time in the world, zero priorities and love waiting, this is the place for you.
Had dental surgery in the morning and went at noon to the pharmacy at the back and was told I would not be able to pick up my prescription till past 8pm because there was 2 people in line and they were "busy". Came back after 5 minutes because the answer did not sit well with me and asked why it would take over 6 hours to make my order and he again said it was busy, pointing to the imaginary people he thought he had in line. Went next door and they had my prescription filled within 15 minutes. Would not recommend wasting your time at this pharmacy because they do not care about you or your medical needs. Pharmacist is just there to collect a paycheck and browse personal websites.
Had a truly terrible experience here with the travel clinic. First the travel consultant could not read my immunization record. Did not understand what I had already been given. Then after I explained it to him, he missed key vaccinations that were needed for my travel region. Once we taught him what we needed, we were charged $50. He learned more from the consultation than I did. Then they tried to charge us $250 for the hep A and B vaccine, per dose ($750 total). These cost $80 per dose in Canada. What a mess. Do not go to shoppers for travel vaccinations.
Why is pharmacy staff so rude lately? I received notification that my prescription was ready on Friday evening. Went to pick it up on Tuesday and only half of it was actually filled. The amount of errors from this pharmacy makes me question the owners ability to operate a business. I don't think I've ever not had some sort of issue here and it's downright embarrassing. Do better for your customers.
Waited two hours for a small prescription, It was ready when they said it would be. Although when I picked up my prescription, I was browsing the shelves and the security lady was following me fairly closely. Made me feel unwelcome so I did not purchase anything else other than medication.
Pharmacy team is heavily understaffed based on how busy the location is. This has led to numerous errors on important medication that I had to rectify at another pharmacy. Shoppers stop being cheap and staff your pharmacy properly, the staff are trying their best.
This pharmacy has the worst service I have ever seen. I had three bad experiences. I am still waiting, since a week ago, for a very important prescription delivery that was supposed to receive after a health incident. I will never use this pharmacy again.
This is one of the worst managed pharmacies I've ever been to. The level of service and attention to detail is horrible. The phones aren't answered, faxes go missing, instructions aren't followed, and the front line staff always rudely push
Hands down the worst pharmacy ive ever visited. I dropped off an epilepsy prescription 3 days ago, and was asked to come back in 1 hour. So i returned an hour later, and was asked to come back the next day, played a game where i lost count
Apparently, this pharmacy is now expiring medications "after two years" of them being prescribed by a doctor despite that not even being legally necessary. This is incredibly problematic for those of us on many long-term medications. I've
The pharmacy has atrocious customer service, tolk it would be over 6 hours to fill a prescription that was a bottle off their shelf, no portioning or dosage to manage, just give us the bottle and use instructions. Came back 8 hours later,
To many mistakes with important prescriptions at this pharmacy. The lack of professionalism by the pharmacy manager is appallingly. There was zero effort made to rectify an error, or try to explain what happened. Perhaps being a downtown
UPDATED: to Shoppers HQ - I see you are suggesting customers with prescription problems to contact you. Unfortunately I have had no luck getting through on your phone lines. The wait to talk to someone is too long. Pls DM with contact
Although I have not dealt with every Shoppers Drug Mart, this is arguably the worst Shoppers Drug mart ever. They took my prescription that was supposed to have 100 tablets dispensed then changed to only 16 tablets so that they could
I have lived in the area for a very long time . And this pharmacy has been the only place I have picked my prescriptions from for very long. It is closer my my home . I never had an issue until this year. Before when you dropped a
The pharmacist made a medical mistake. Not great service either. This has been my pharmacy since 2015, when it was under different management and was good at the time. I'm changing pharmacy soon.
By far my worst experience at a pharmacy ever. I just moved provinces and needed my prescriptions transferred. To start with, they do not answer their phones so don’t even bother.
This place is home to some of the most amazing, non snarky supervisors I’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Great staff that does what they can with what they have:)
