I feel like my wife and I were taken advantage of and have completed their "after service" survey and am posting this to insure that this never happens again to anyone else! When signing documents (electronically) at the beginning I felt rushed and didn't have time to read everything carefully. If I would have known that they would lock me out of the building after 6 days of being late and charge me an $85 "auction fee" on top of the $15 late fee for being 30 days late (stuff happens..... LIFE) then I DEFINITELY would not have continued and sought business elsewhere. I felt like my worldly possessions were held hostage and at a very high ransom for half of the time I was there, once I was late it created a late pattern due to their policies. This was burdensome and caused a lot of grief to my family financially and emotionally. We believe that their policies are predatory and meant to take advantage of the customer and we are seriously thinking about taking legal action. On a separate incident, we asked multiple times if the management would check cameras for people possibly putting sharp objects (nails, screws, staples, etc....) in the parking lot. It seemed like every time we were there I was dodging a flat tire. They never did and it continued. On a third "offense", the gate was broken and malfunctioning for almost a whole 2 months and instead of fixing it or calling someone to repair it, they left it open 24/7 for almost two-thirds of the time it was broken, therefore allowing just anyone entrance into the building that our belongings were at negating all safety for said belongings. When we asked what they were going to do about it, we were repeatedly told that they were working on it and that was it. When we asked for a discount or refund or anything due to the fact we were paying for a secured unit with secured gate access for added protection and security they literally chuckled in our face and said there was no possible way. I do not recommend this place to anyone and suggest you take your business elsewhere, there are literally tons more storage facilities in the area that have way better customer service with the same high-priced indoor storage units....

WARNING DO NOT ENGAGE IN BUSINESS WITH SMARTSTOP This company uses deceptive consumer practices to extract money from its customers. I started off with a rate of $43 and after the 1st month it bumped up $4. After the 6th month it jumped to $73. If I stay it will continue to increase beyond the value of the unit, as they have done this in the past before when I rented from them. This company will offer extremely low start rates but once you get in they will jump back up to what they personally desire without negotiation. The logic of this storage scheme is that it would cost you more time and money and labor to relocate/transport than to just let them force you into new unnegotiated rates. I can pay the extra $30 a month for 6 months which is $180 more than originally agreed or completely relocate relocate which could cost me $600 for rental truck and labor, new storage fees and insurance, locks, 20 unpaid hours of self labor and time searching for new storage, etc plus the aggravation. I have heavy materials like lumber stored away and it would be such a hassle and expensive. I will be filing a consumer complaint with the attorney generals office for deceptive practices. It is a form of consumer extortion using marketplace logic to increase profits outside of the originally understood intention of the company. The positive 5 star Google reviews for them are shallow and unrealistic. The facility has numerous issues apart from the financial business practices; such as the contract wording which would let an employee and company cause a customer intentionally serious and fatal harm and the customer waives the right to sue the company. Its almost fictional, like Dr. Evil started this business. DO NOT ENGAGE IN BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY DO NOT FALL FOR ITS BAIT AND SWITCH PRACTICES

**Warning: long, theatrical, slightly dramatized review. Read at your own risk of entertainment!** So, I decided to adult and clean my thrift store I call my home and move some of the things that “I can’t live without” but never use into storage. You know the workout machine “to unbig my back” or the sewing machine that “one day will use to sew an outfit for my niece.” I bought the machine before she was born … she’s seven now. Anywho, went online to Smart Storage because they were highly recommended from my friends. After doing was seemed to be theoretical physics I figured I needed a 5 x 7 unit. But to my dismay it wasn’t available. After, a short temper tantrum I booked a 5 x 10 unit. After, packing my car and I headed on my adventure to Smart Storage. Very nice, clean and secure building. What I didn’t know, is that inside was a labyrinth of units that would give Indianan Jones a run for his money. I walked around what seemed like 3 days looking for my unique unit. I found it and it was way too large. Sad face!!! So I traced all my Fitbit steps and went to the front office for help. Here enters my storage super hero Ashley!!!! She was fantastic. First she pointed out that the instruction online advised to stop by the front office first. Reading is fundamental.I whined about how large my unit was and how difficult it was for me to find. Ashley found me a 5 x 7 unit, extremely close to an exit. She even walked me to my unit and showed me how to use the locks, key pad and dolly, lol! Clearly she could tell I needed all the help I could get. She turned an experience of epic proportions to an anti climatic task. If it wasn’t for her, I would have probably cancelled my act of adulting and return all my items to their original home. Thanks Ashley!

Mr Eddie and the other 2 young ladies have EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! When Eddie or the other workers calls me to keep me informed about my payment, I don't get upset because they're just doing their "JOB", and we do have caller ID so if you don't want to be bother don't answer your phone and give them nothing but attitude!!! Now, when I go to the storage unit it's always clean to me, and I do believe in cleanliness. The only "ISSUES" that I have, is that you can never find a cart, and you know WHY? yes I put a question mark and gonna answer for you, because people don't know how to put them BACK so someone else can use them!!! IT'S VERY SIMPLE!!!

After seeing the reviews I decided I would give this place a try. This is by far the cleanest storage facility I’ve ever seen. Jill was very professional, courteous, friendly and even comical at times. The leasing process was a breeze and my first month is free. While I was there I overheard Jashana handling a call with a current customer. The tone she used was so calm, polite and professional, it’s the voice you want to hear on the other end when you’re getting a call about being delinquent on a payment.Two thumbs up! They’re doing an AWESOME job. Don’t think twice, take your property to Extra Space Storage.

I was looking for a place to store some equipment I use for My business as I am relocating. Ashley was excellent at attending to My needs. I informed her of my situation, and she was more than happy to go above and beyond My expectations. She took the initiative to show Me several vacant units so I could make an informed decision on what would work for My needs. I’m grateful for Ashley’s willingness to ensure I found a space to hold My equipment. I give them 5 stars, and highly recommend anyone needing storage to contact Ashley.

The last time I visited after it was purchased by SmartStop, the building smelled almost unbearable. It needs some kind of odor eliminate. Almost like someone was actually cooking in there. It seems like people live in there as well. The floors are dirty now, & I even saw dead roaches in the hallway before my unit. Makes me really nervous about eventually taking anything out of there. I will say that the staff is absolutely amazing. They are extremely helpful and nice. Wonderful customer service!

Highly recommend! Amanda was SO helpful & patient taking the time to go through everything with me. Once we selected my unit she personally walked me through how to get in the gate using my security code & which entrance to use to get into the building closest to my unit & even showed me how to use my new lock! The facility itself is spotless & great location with plenty of parking & security monitoring. I am so glad I found this place! So far my experience has been A+++++

I had a bad experience with a public storage and am so lucky I had found this one. I called before I booked and Eddie was sooo helpful and answered all my questions. I went in to look at the unit before locking in and Jasmine showed me the way, and helped me with everything. These two are honestly amazing, great customer service! The facility and units are clean, air conditioned, and a great location in university area. So happy I chose this storage unit!!!

Okay so I stopped in to rent a unit I did my research and Read all the reviews and one main name kept ringing out and that was this Jammie guy so I thought it was all hype and that maybe it was just the females who got the great service. But to my surprise Jammie delivered excilent service to me as well now mind you I'm big on having great customer service and he didn't disappoint! Worst customer service experience I've encountered. This facility was previously an Extra Space Storage who has always been great but after being acquired by SmartStop I wanted nothing to do with this location. Every time I spoke with someone new that person would tell me a different version of store policy. I called corporate to gain clarity and no one would return my phone calls. Cancelled my unit a week after purchasing due to the change over.

Will be coming to move my belongings. My rare when I first started here was about $137. I sign on today to make a payment and it's $190. I spoke to a rep who says they sent me a letter about the increase. I've never dealt with a storage facility that makes such a drastic increase because of "market conditions". I found a cheaper unit at Life Storage and will be moving there. You people are ridiculous.

I've had a wonderful experience here. The last time I rented at a storage, I lost my documentation due to my unit getting in auction and I was never notified or was told it will happen so I was a bit nervous renting again, Katende has been helpful and caring about my experience and really helped explain everything about the lease. The site was clean as well and I am glad to be renting here. Great job.

They never open on time! The sign says they open at 9am, No they open when they want. They locked my storage where I can’t gain access to it because I was late on my payment. Once the payment was made they still didn’t unlock my storage right away. Then they raised my storage price without notice by $45 more than what I originally agreed to. Do yourself a favor, find another storage facility

Eddie followed up with me by phone after I reserved a unit online and helped me to understand everything I needed to know to rent it. Katende assisted me in store with the actual lease and purchase. I don't have the time nor the space to tell you how wonderful this place is. First, I want to mention Rachel who was very helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. She made Extra Space Storage somewhere I would love to visit daily just to start my day off right. The facility is always clean. They also offer water and so much more. Everything for the most part was done on-line and then Eddie gave me a call shortly after to go over the particulars. Amazing customer service and pristine facility. I needed a last minute space to store some extra items while my construction on my apartment is being completed and Eddie hooked us up and helped out a ton. Answered any questions we had and made the entire process super easy. The building is spotless and very secure! Cannot recommend enough!

I recently rented a unit at the University location. Eddie showed me a unit last week and upon my return to rent the unit it was rented through Divya. Both were very nice. I was very impressed with the appearance of this location.It was very clean and smelled wonderful not like other storage facilities that smell like moth balls.

The facility is great, but the setup isn't conducive for businesses with accounting departments. You're charged a fee if you don't pay by the first, but they don't send invoices, the website doesn't allow you to retrieve or see invoices. Even it my company is setup for auto pay, we still need to see an invoice.

Katende was quite the professional. He was kind, courteous, respectful of my time when I indicated I needed to rescue my husband from a crying baby. He also houghtfully provided me with options that fit my circumstances. He and Eddie were just great. I secured a unit and I am very happy with the results.

Fast friendly service. Super clean storage units and office. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They explain everything you need to know and are available for you during business hours if you need to call them. I really like that they do everything electronically since less paper save the planet.

I've used storage centers in several different states but Extra Space Storage located at 7307 University City Blvd, Charlotte NC, is by far the best! Clean, great staff, especially Jamie. He's a real cool guy, friendly, very helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend this facility.
