I will never again go to any other laundromat. Until I found Soap Bar, I had been going round supermarkets and bottle shops like a hobo begging for them to exchange notes for $1 coins and pretending not to notice 'DO NOT ASK FOR CHANGE FOR LAUNDROMAT AS REFUSAL MAY OFFEND'. Sometimes the manager at IGA would help out a brother with some coin because I regularly do the family shopping there. But he would tsk tsk and remark that the laundromat should get their own change machine. Once I got enough coins, I would try to negotiate the faulty coin collectors at the laundromat (some machines only took $1s, others only $2s -- but for some reason the lady who owned the place never put up any signs labeling which was which. I think she might have made a tidy side business in stuck coins.) Once my clothes were washed I'd sometimes be pulling them out of the machine only to find my hands coated in sticky soap paste -- yep, that's right, the machine washed so poorly it didn't even move the soap from its original point of deposit into the clothes. Words similar to 'sit' and 'puck' would be muttered under my breath. Of course there was nowhere to rinse your hands. Then I found Soap Bar. The machines are not only cheaper than the rubbish laundromat ($3 per load -- Though the smallest machines are double load, so $6 minimum investment), the equipment is all brand new. And the owners care about graphic design and ambience: the massive mirrored chrome '50s-style 'automatic' sign is a beauty to behold. AND THERE IS A FRICKING CHANGE MACHINE THAT WORKS!! And, even more amazingly, should you not have come even packing notes, there is an ATM. And EVEN more amazingly, if you are totes gen-Y or Z or whatever we're up to now, you can pay for the machines with Paypal. FRICKIN PAYPAL. The machines are all IP, baby. Oh. And there is an air hockey table. And Jenga blocks to play with if they are your thing. There is an 'honesty bar' of soap powder you can scoop out at will for a coin drop of $1 -- no fixed (or policed, anyway) quantity. AND THERE IS FREE WIFI SO YOU CAN NETFLIX AND CHILL* WHILE YOUR WASHING IS GOING WITHOUT BLOWING YOUR DATA PLAN. * Chill in yr he strictly platonic laundromatic plain English sense And there is a sign up indicating that a waffle and coffee cafe will be coming soon at the front of the laundromat. And there is a TAP and a HAND DRYER for those soap exposure moments. Never. Going. Anywhere. Else.
I have to apologise for two things, I didn't use the laundromat, and I forgot to take photos. That said, I was blown away by the aesthetic of the laundromat, and really admired the layout of the venue. Ok so why am I reviewing with 5 stars? I only visited this venue earlier today because I saw that food was available. The bagels looked phenomenal, but I decided that it was the right time to finally try a Ruben toasted sandwich, my mother had the tuna melt. Both were phenomenal. Genuinely, I have only ever had one other toastie which was god tier, and that involves a drive to Mount Beauty. The toasted sandwiches we had were superbly filled, toasted, crunchy, flavoursome, and for the price, absolutely absurd value. I already know that when I go for my check up in about 6 weeks from spine surgery, I'll be making myself come and get another sandwich from Your Neighbour. Oh, another thing. We bought "the last" blueberry muffin. I was absolutely insulted that it's taken me 34 years to taste something so light, fluffy and balanced. I can see why it was the last one, and I can not believe that it wasn't sold out sooner. The heart of the venue was the staff, however. They were incredibly kind, patient, caring, and ever so welcoming. I really am excited to meet them again, in times when the city isn't locked down. Genuinely, the whole experience, which was about 15-20 minutes, maybe less, resulted in me having one of the best moments that I've experienced over the last 4 years. Causing me to tear up when I was reflecting on it when I got home. Sure, it was technically just a toastie, but it really stole my heart. Promise I'll come for the laundromat if my washing machine breaks down and shall update my review then. *Edit* Have just revisited the laundromat (sorry I didn't do washing again), but have included some photos of the Ruben toastie which is legitimately god tier. I'm a devotee now, absolutely. Can't wait to visit again in the future!
Pricey, so if attending. Separating whites, colours, darks, towels and bedding is not an option. Whack it in a big washer and pray. The machines did a great job. I used 4 machines to wash. 2x small washing machines and 2x large ones. Easy to easy, even easy to organise payment, then I say down with my bagel and coffee, seperate buisness available at the front of the premise and waited. The way that I paid allows reminders to be sent to your phone when your washing is finishing up. So handy if you were local. The dryers were fantastic and I only needed two yahoo! All up the trip cost me over $25. I’d definitely go again although not before checking out some of the competition for price competitiveness. **to be continued - will happily re-rate Soap Bar Laundrette if I I’m wrong :) *** - thanks for reply ♂️
We just walked out of this café with big smiles on our faces. I didn't expect to find such a flash laundrette at the back of this cute cafe and I was almost put off by it, but I'm so glad we stayed. The service was above and beyond, SO friendly! The coffee was pretty good ad the barista super helpful, happy to answer any questions and helped us when my kids were trying to play on the air hockey machine. The fully functioning air hockey machine was a big bonus with the kids. Now, the waffle... It was heavenly delicious, the best I've ever had. And the girl who made them had such a happy lovely personality, offering a wonderful service. Together with the boy making the coffees made this place shine with a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely give it a try, you won't regret it.
I used to visit another coin laundry in Richmond, but as soon as I came here first time, I loved the concept. There are enough machines for the public, there is an ATM and also a coin change machine. You can never get bored while waiting for your clothes, cuz there are some entertainment stuff to use (jenga, air hockey, massage chair). Another positive point is FREE WIFI. Decoration is different and nice. The only thing that I would add is a vending machine to get some drinks when the waffle shop is closed.
THE BEST WAFFLES EVER!?! Would highly recommend to those who are out and about in the area of Richmond, to visit. You will not only experience amazing waffles and beverages, but will also enjoy amazing customer service. Owners are absolutely beautiful inside and out, as they made us feel welcome constantly throughout our visit. You would be doing yourself an injustice if you do not visit this cafe. Would highly recommend the waffles with any toppings, alongside a beautiful cup of Belgian hot chocolate!
Actually, we only go here to eat from the food outlet at the front. I do like some of the features on the laundromat though, especially if the Cafe is open when you go. So 5 stars for the Cafe and 3 for the laundromat for the special features. We live in Berwick and I do not think I would ever use the laundry because of the distance factor. We found the Cafe after medical treatment in the area, love the food and return if we are in the area... Always pleased with the quality of our food and service.
Really pleased with our first visit here. There are a lot of washing machine sizes to fit your needs, washing powder available for $1, and coffee and bagels while you wait. Has a really pleasant atmosphere, tables to sit at and read, or an air hockey table to pasd the time. Would be great to come and wash a doona that is too large for your machine at home. Reasonably priced, but perhaps a little expensive to do your everyday washing here. Great for the occasional bed sheets washing.
Found this cute laundromat the other day and was very pleased with it. Very clean, and quick and easy to use the machines. There’s even a little cafe inside! Also you can pay online, so no need to bring change! I made the mistake of putting a 50 note in the token machine thinking it was a change machine and called up the customer service and Ben came to my house to swap me the tokens for a 50 note. Beyond grateful. Would definitely recommend this place.
Lovely people and wonderful service. Has a tiny coffee place inside, paid massage recliner, an air hockey table, an arcade game and lots of place to sit and chill while your clothes are being washed. Payment can be made using a tap for the washer and dryer. Super convenient. Didn't have to withdraw pennies or login to some website unlike some other laundrettes. They didn't charge us for the washing powder as well. Amazing service.
This place is so convenient and well set up. It has become my little late night hideaway. Nice atmosphere, clean machines and seating areas, chill-hop tunes, and a massage chair where I’m currently writing this review. The wash/dry prices are good, washing powder for $1, and the opening hours are the best bit! Also, check the website for the Washer Watch to see how many are available before you leave home!
During my laundry time, i was trying to play table soccer and put 2 coins in the machine first time, it didnt work. And i tried again putting 2 coins more. It didnt work at all. Jeez. They got my 4 dollars in a second and gave me nothing fun... why the play table still on the floor even doesn’t work with no sign to use. Anyway my money dissapeared. Please be operated good
The best laundromat I've ever used. The fact that it's not dark and dingy is amazing, but the deal-sealer for me is that you can pay by card. As someone who's travelled down from Sydney for work and had clothes in need of a wash from both day-to-day use and hiking, this place was exactly what I was after. Many thanks!
Hands down one of the best laundromats I've been to. Very easy to use and pay machines/powder station is super clean, they use the latest technology and my queen size duvet managed to fit in their medium sized washing machine! Cafe that's inside too is amazing (try their toasties!!) will definitely return.
This is the best laundromat/launderette I have used I love it. Love. I never thought I’d be so passionate about a laundromat! Haha. But it’s really lovely. It’s a relaxed place. It’s friendly. It’s just a really nice space to do your washing. …
I don't regularly give out 5 star reviews, but as I sip my tasty mug of chai from the in-house cafe, I can't help myself. For something so mundane as doing laundry, Soap Bar Richmond really helps me to enjoy this chore as much as I possibly can.
We have been going to this place for almost a year now with no issues but all of a sudden some stranger decides to move our laundry mid way when it was drying to dry THEIR clothes these cheap dogs. DO NOT TRUST THE PEOPLE AROUND HERE!!!
My new local hang out! Great place to air my dirty laundry, the fact that it's clean, gentle on my clothes and the machines are new i know im getting value for money. Plus, free wifi helps so i can do stuff while i'm waiting.
Love doing my laundry here. Getcha cuppa coffee, bring your laptop, plug in at one of the wall sockets, connect to the free wifi. Plus you don't need coins. It has an iPad Touch tap kiosk. Highly recommended.
Drive here once a week to do my washing ignoring several laundry places on the way because this place is 5 star on everyway. Great job guys! If only the street was 1P that would make life so much easier..
Cheese toasties and milk shakes on for tomorrow as my granddaughters have made this their favourite toasties, great service, excellent quality food and coffee very happy we found this little gem …
Great new machines, simple system and you can pay with your card if you don't have the change. Amazing waffles while you wait too, definitely going to look forward to my time here this winter
Lovely space to clean our washing while on holidays in the neighbourhood. Very clean and tidy, comfortable space to hang out while we waited. Cafe was closed for the holidays when we visited
The cafe is especially lovely about this place as you can do your washing and have a nice little bite to eat. Also all of the washes and dryers are eco-friendly which is a huge bonus!
OK, can't believe I'm actually writing a review about a launderette, but, I have to say, as far as launderette's go, this is pretty damn good!! They even have Air Hockey!! Sweet!!
Awesome little coffee and waffle shop. Must try and Devils Breakfast for the best waffle experience in Melbourne. Waffle, berries, ice cream and drizzled with chocolate. Yum!!!
I go out of my way to use this place. The facilities are really great and well looked after. You can even pay by card which is amazing. No more having to hunt for loose change
Nice toastie and really excellent coffee. Everything arrived quickly and the ambiance provided by the hum of washing machines and smell of laundry is surprisingly comforting
Funky invironment clean up to date with technology and u can get a bagel and a coffee in the day. I have been to a few laundromats, this is the best in the area. 4 sure
Clean and very easy to use. Can use tap n go payment so no need for change and get a text message when machine finished. Also get awesome coffee from cafe in same shop
Easy to use digital system, great facilities with everything you need for washing. Can buy powder for $1, massage chair, Wi-Fi and a hockey table to pass your time.
Who ever knew that going to a laundromat could be a good experience. Safe and relaxing space. As a female, finally a situation I'm not on guard to protect myself.
Always a hassle getting change for the machines, not here though, it's coinless. Laundry powder is provided free. WiFi and cafe expresso coffee while you wait.
I've been to a ton of cafes around Melbourne, and this is without a doubt my favourite. Great coffee, delicious waffles and you can even wash your socks!
Love this place... Fast gentle washes, great facilities amd free wifi. It's great to jump in the massage chair whilst waiting for the washing to finish!
Cannot believe I’m giving a laundromat 5 stars!? You gotta see it to believe it my friends. Massage chair & free wifi are def stand outs tho …
Clean, lots of machines, all well serviced and functional, with ATM, soap, change machine and air hockey Also, all machines take PayPal! Nice. …
Quick effective machines, easy payment and operation, great value (huge) dryers. Also always good music and a bonus having the cafe up front.
Clean and lovely. Free wifi. A little expensive but if you can afford 8 bucks a load but not a washing machine for some reason, come here.
Lemony, with a hint of melted sadness, topped with a shaving of guilt and shame. Delightful, mother. Moisten the lounging wildebeest.
The staff were super friendly and make awesome coffee. The layout and concept is so unique and refreshing. Very chill atmosphere.
Awesome service, very good coffee, not the best croissant you can expect from a bar but more than what you expect from a loundry!
Best laundry experience I've ever had. Fast wifi, delicious coffee and super clean. Check out the massage chair! Highly recommend
Clean. Warm. Well designed. Safe. Coffee shop a bonus although it wasn't open in the morning at 10 and I was hoping for a latte.
Love this place! Clean and coinless. The cafe is wonderful, great coffee and toasties served by the most kind and friendly team
Welcome to the 21st century, no need for coins you can pay on your phone. After years of saving dollar coins I feel liberated.
This was the easiest, most enjoyable laundry service. The machines were fast and the coffee was good. Would recommend!
Best place in Melbourne for laundry! Very organized, you can pay with card and super clean. Good quality for sure!
Finally a nice laundromat in the area. This place is clean, got wifi and decent washer/dryers. I highly recommend.
Big and clean and I’ve never had to wait. Love being able to pay by phone because who even carries cash anymore.
Very well organised and operated laundry. It's cash free, includes washing detergent and a cafe during the day.
Love the free wifi and cafe onsite whilst I wait for my laundry. A cruisy place to catch up on emails. Love it!
One of the most amazing coin laundry I have ever visited....just can't get over the ambiance...just loved it!!!
So easy to use. Handy to have PayPal rather than look for coins. Such a cosy and nice looking venue too …
Great spot to get your laundry done, can pay via card and sit and enjoy a coffee and a snack while you wait.
If there ever can be a 5 star laundromat, this is it! Great clean facilities. Delicious coffee and snacks.
Great launderette. So much nicer inside than most places. The free ironing station is such a useful idea.
Probably the best laundromat ever, so cheap in comparison to many other competitors and it has a cafe!
8 bucks this place is nice for a laundromat, but rather a basic decor and cheaper wash. Too expensive.
Stopped in for a quick coffee and bagle...... Exceptional! Have to be the best hot chocolate around
We moved away and don't use this laundromat anymore, our new laundromat makes me miss this one
Great idea ! Awesome coffee and bagels and toasties! Cheap facilities for a laundromat too.
Best laundromat I've been to. Does the important job but makes it as painless as possible
this place is excellent but i swear the music gets worse and louder each time i visit
Fantastic setup. Everything was 5stars - machines, prices, atmosphere, facilities..
Spacious, nice atmosphere. Great coffee from the little coffee shop at the front.
Cheap, has a cafe attached, clean and you can pay with card to use the machines
Great selection of washers and also dryers. Takes credit cards which is great!
