Was looking forward to trying the food here after reading the reviews, but unfortunately it was the worst baked food I've ever had (as a dessert addict I've been to most bakeries/cafes in vic). I never leave negative reviews, even if deserved, but this time I couldn't ignore the bad quality. The service was great, the coffee was good, and the store itself is lovely, but as for the baked goods.. I couldn't even have a bite of my 'gourmet' cupcake as it was so stale. I could barely pull it apart due to the hard texture inside and out, not even slightly fluffy on the inside. The custard tart pastry was very over cooked and dry, and the custard filling texture was runny with an odd flavor. The carrot cake was stale and bland. Very disappointed overall. Didn't try the savory pastries unfortunately, but won't bother returning for those as $22 was enough money wasted the first time around.

Ordered a cake from here for my son's birthday and they went absolutely above and beyond! Such a beautiful cake, way better than anything we had imagined and exactly what my son had had hoped for. He was thrilled! It even looked than the "inspo" pictures I'd shown! Everybody complimented it, and when we pulled it out at the party venue they went and got the other staff just to check it out. The cake itself was rich and delicious, just what you want from a chocolate mud cake. Customer service was outstanding, especially as I'd left it a bit last minute to organise. Nothing was too hard. Thank you so much! Would recommend Somerville Gourmet Cakes and Pastries to everyone!

We needed cupcakes for an 18th birthday party and Somerville cakes were so so helpful our criteria had to be Scottish highland theme with loch ness monster , highland cows and scotch thistle Our expectations were surpassed not only did the look perfect but tasted fantastic 10 out of 10 for service and quality thank you Somerville cakes and pasties

My go to for birthday cakes! Not only do they look beautiful but they taste amazing - the lightest fluffiest sponge and cream inside. They are the first cakes where all the kids have eaten their whole slice of birthday cake - not just the icing. Highly recommend

Love this shop, great coffee and really fantastic cakes. I have had a number of cakes made and wouldnt go anywhere else now. Very creative cake designs nothing is too hard. Would highly recommend for coffee, cakes and every other baked items :)

Ordered catering for a party and the food and cakes were incredible. We had a lot of compliments at the party on the food. Staff were very friendly and easy to chat to about my order. Highly reccomend!

Humble little independent place in a typically small suburb shopping centre. We visit often for their pies. The pastry is short and the fillings are delicious. Recommended.

I rang to order a birthday cake for a friend. I collected it and wow what a great job. The sponge cake was so good and it was iced very pretty. Fantastic value for $30!
