A total surprise packet. We've driven past this place a million times and never thought to go in. Went for a birthday lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Great menu options, covered outdoor and indoor eating areas with lots of space. A kid's room with plenty of activities to keep them busy until their food arrives. The food was top notch pub grub at reasonable prices. They have a woodfire type pizza oven too and the garlic flatbread was crispy and buttery. Would recommend it for starters. Same with the calamari and the delicious tomato and cheese salad. Everyone enjoyed their meals with no complaints whatsoever. We were there bang on noon and it wasn't too busy, so the service was fast and very friendly. This is a great place to bring kids (they eat free on Saturdays!!) and enjoy meal without worrying too much. There's various offers throughout the week for food and drinks and we also saw a great lunch deal for 20 bucks for food and drink. Don't be put off by its location either. There's plenty of parking and once your inside, you wouldn't even know this place was located on one of the busiest and noisest intersections in Sydney. We're definitely going back there, not only because we're now members, but also because it was a great pub experience. Highly recommend it.

Bottlemart and Bottlemart Express bottle shops have an outstanding selection of beer specials, wine specials and spirits now on sale. Our Bottlemart bottle shops are conveniently located at over 180 independent hotels and bottle shops throughout Sydney towns and cities across NSW, and the ACT. We regularly update our wide variety of great deals on Australian beer and imported beer, lager and ale as well as wine specials, spirit specials such as rum, vodka and whisky and even cider and champagne specials. So if you’re hosting a BBQ by the beach, have guests for a Saturday night get together, going to visit friends and need to take a bottle – or just need to stock up– you’ll find a great selection at your local Bottlemart or Bottlemart Express bottle shops. And remember to check back regularly to see if your favourite brand is currently on sale or join us on Facebook for immediate updates. Cheers!

I usually never write reviews but this one is in hopes to spare people from this horrible experience. We stayed at this hotel because everything was sold out and was close to the airport but boy was in for a surprise. They had no elevator so we were forced to carry all our luggage upstairs. When we walked in to the room it smelled like mildew and old. The bed was very uncomfortable also. They falsely advertise Free wifi, which you have to pay $5 AUD a day. No tv either, movies were $5-15 AUD. But I said to myself it can't get worse, we were only supposed to be there for 2 days. The next morning around 6 I started hearing loud stomping and voices followed by knocks on other doors. You could literally hear anything and everything that was going on the hall and the next room. The housekeeper was so rude. I mean it was a horrible experience. DON'T STAY HERE!

We went to a friend's birthday which was held on the balcony (beer garden?) The space was terrific. It was such a great night. Rather than travelling back to our usual accommodation, we chose to stay in the rooms they had available. The rooms were reasonably priced (~$80) and that price point was very apparent. When we walked into the hall leading to our room there were buckets catching roof leaks and the hall smelled like a stagnant aquarium. The room itself was smallish, with a double bed (comfortable) and an ensuite. The shower was poorly designed and you have to manoeuvre into it to close the door. The air conditioner leaked during the night. The room served its purpose and that's all I really needed.

Getting there: Was simple and straight forward from the airport. It is on the main highway. Taxi ride: Was a bit much for the distance. If it’s your first time then come out of the airport and catch a local taxi. Hotel & Room: The hotel is dated and would benefit from an upgrade and apparently this is in the pipeline. The room is modern especially the al important bathroom/Shower. The carpets definitely needs changing as it does smell. The hotel is on the main highway so it can be noisy, especially with massive lorries whooshing past at all hours of the day and night. No lifts so if you have two large luggages like us then expect no help! Staff: Someone always there. Really helpful. No issues at all. We checked in really late. Return? Maybe once all renovations are all completed and if for quick stopover.

Unfortunately we didn’t have the best experience at all. Firstly the bar tender got all 4 drinks wrong, she was new so that’s not too much of a drama, but no worries or anything, the we order our food, 10 min later to be told the card didn’t work (when in fact it did, so we waited another 10 min for the food to go through and be made out like we didn’t pay I heard the manager say. So we pay in cash Again….only to go home and realise we had been charged through EFT in the first place…so we had to come back and get our cash refund in which the manager wasn’t the slightest bit apologetic about the matter) Food was average to say the least…. Very very average…. An unfortunate outing

Very disappointed this was my goto hotel for dinner in our area. The young lady who took our dinner order did not have a good command of English, example the word BREAD and RUMP STEAK. Our order was incorrect but we let it go and just ate what came. I noticed other diners there appeared to be confusion regarding their meals too. Noticed they have changed the menu and I wonder if they have changed the Chef too as the standard and presentation was not their normal high standard. Even one of our drink orders was incorrect. You could definitely notice they had new staff. We would have spent over $330 for 4 people. Time for a new local Hotel for dinner and drinks.

Firstly the staff were wonderful especially the lovely lady in the VIP bar who found the manager so we could book in. The lady who does the cleaning was wonderful and friendly. But from that point it was down hill. The bed was not comfortable and every time we moved we woke each other up. There was no mattress protector and the mattress was stained badly. There were other stains on the carpet. I don't think this is the fault of the cleaner but the policy of the owners. We asked for a quiet room but got a room on the Princesses Highway side of the building. There were not any bed side lamps as depicted in the photos. There was no fridge in the room. The meal were very good and the service excellent.

This place is very close to the airport but on a very busy corner so there is a bit of noise. Rooms 1-5 overlook the road but 6 and up overlook the car park so they might not be as noisy. There is a snack machine in the hallway but there is no machine for drinks which I found a bit inconvenient. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The bar does great food at reasonable prices and as I tend to drink a lot of water I only had to ask to take up a bottle of water to my room. There are a few sections in the car park where you need to be careful where you park as at night the birds have a favourite tree and leave a mess on your car. Overall good experience.

  • adam black

Accommodation; it's a pub, so don't expect anything Check in was a nothing experience when you eventually find it's the bottle shop that does it. Air conditioner in room didn't work correctly, no fridge in room so couldn't even make a cuppa with milk. Bathroom is small, but perfectly fine for one person, but not two. No area to stow toiletries and the stain around the basin waste makes you wonder if the place was cleaned to a covid standard, which a LOT of establishments are guilty of.. with new years eve exploded pricing of $160/ night, you'd expect its a $70 value at best. A last resort for a nights sleep before an early flight is the best I can say.

  • Mark Gold

I love being pleasantly surprised and that is what happened at the Southern Cross Hotel today. Brought the wife and kids for a lazy Saturday late lunch/early dinner. The place is clean, modern and spacious. Ordered 3 meals to share between 2 adults and 2 fussy kids. The kitchen staff were amazingly accommodating with our special requests due to fussy kids. When the food came it looked so much better than your standard pub fare and it didn't disappoint. The rump was the best piece of beef I've had in a long time and perfectly cooked, the other 2 meals were a chicken parmi and fish and chips which were both great. 4 very satisfied diners!

  • M Pham

Good family friendly place, spacious, and lots of seating. There were two different events being held that took up the upstairs bit and a small section near the bar, still a few tables fit the general public. There is a small playroom for the kids to muck around in. Kids eat free on the weekend. Food is decent, options are what you expect from a pub bistro. My burger bun was a little too charred but the rest of the food ordered was good. The salmon and chicken looked good, even the kids fish and chips and pasta . Would go again as a good casual place to catch up with friends.

This place is absolutely stunning, the only down fall I would give is the bathrooms are very small as in skin in the shower type small but other then that the room is lovely, great size t.v and cute view on the 2nd level balcony. The staff members where lovely and even though we arrived early they had our room ready with in less than an hour making it a priority. The location is abit confusing as the car park is around the back but your close to different stores, this place was absolute a vibe

Girlfriend says the food is great however when I first came in my main impression was when we went to the bar to get drinks and there were no prices anywhere... checked food menu and nothing, checked drinks menu and there are wines... even a sign for happy hour and nothing saying what happy hour actually is, what was the original price? What is the new price? Sitting at table and had a container of cutlery slammed down to my side with nothing said just made me jump and server left with nothing said. Only gave two starts due to being assured the food is good.

  • Nick Angelucci (BBQAroma)

Always drove past on the corner and finally had a look in. Quite spacious and nicely laid out in a retro classic style. They have plenty of TV screens showing Sports and can be quite noisy in places even when it's not full. The outdoor terrace looked great and so did the dining area. The main bar is good and the front room surprisingly well insulated from the busy traffic outside the door. Downstairs had the gaming room and bottle shop with convenient carpark at the door. Good bar with plenty of seating for a drink or gathering of friends.

We are flying to Perth in the morning, staying up the street in a cheapy little motel. Walked down to this local for a light meal. After perusing the menu we selected 3 entrees for the variety, to share and added a 4th plus a bottle of cab sauv. What a delicious meal! We had the calamari with pickled fennel, the magnificent chicken tacos, and fried pumpkin flowers on a bed of salad. The bottle of cab sauv washed it away so well we got a 4th entree, the waffle potato chips! Thanks to the chefs, great food, ta! We’ll be back! Dodgie!

  • Damian Montano

Atmosphere is a bit average…. But it’s convenient to meet mates there to watch origin and a few other big sporting events. Main bar is ruined by a disgusting smokers ‘lounge’ that has a door that opens onto the main bar and fills the room with cigarette smoke every time the door opens. Also food is average! Shnitty is just passable, pizzas are below average….. wish I could be more positive but have left disappointed too many times….

We recently celebrated our son's baptism at Southern Cross - Terrace Room, and I cannot recommend this place enough. We opted to go with the BBQ menu and everyone said they loved the food and the place (we were blessed with a sunny day). They also catered for dietary requirements. Staff was very friendly and Amelia (Events coordinator) was extremely efficient in her response and so helpful. Plenty of parking for our guests as well. Thanks again team

This is our local pub at the end of my street and it has seriously lost its 'mojo'. They have significantly changed the menu and increased the pricing - cursive writing on a menu does not give you permission to charge more! I reckon they will have lost quite a bit of local patronage as I know a couple of friends have commented including the loss of the famous ribs. What a shame, we won't be back. I am sure others won't either. There are many dining options around here to chose from.

  • 7s29

Love this place, nice ambience, and food. Easy parking as well. Edit: In recent times they have renovated the hotel, looks fantastic. On another note, they've revised the menu. NOT HAPPY JAN! No more T-Bone/Rib Eye, just rump. The rest of the menu is OK but, I'm not a big fan of that either. Please do something to bring back some of the old menu. Until that happens, I'll watch from afar. Because of the new menu, I'm reducing my 5 star down to 3.

  • Marcio

Three different spaces to choose from and a bottle shop at the parking level. First area is like a pub separated in two, one half with big sports screens and the other as just a normal pub, the bar is in the middle serving both sides. Second area looks more like a restaurant with a bar too and a kids area to keep they entertained. Third one has glass wall and is a smoke free area as it has some open roof, it also includes another bar.

I was here for a 40th birthday party at the southern cross hotel on a Saturday night and the service and staff were very friendly and helpful for everyone there. The manager was very helpful in assisting in the preparation for the party with all the decorations and the additional food plates and tables and there's plenty of space the DJ setup as well as the oncoming entertainment acts. Great place for parties hire the upstairs area

We've been there a few times now and it can be hit or miss. Lunch time chefs seem to be better than the evening guys as far as I could work out. Pizza's are quite good but the chicken parmigiana was good and then not so good.. also the loyalty card system has changed without warning. Used to be members got a discount but now you accrue points. Not sure that works for me. Might work for you.

Really nice place, friendly staff member, they have an outdoor sitting area as well, because sometimes the inside sitting area can get a bit noisy, but it's not that bad. They even have a seperate lounge area specially for private functions. There are smoking areas too, so you can smoke away in peace without disturbing anyone else.

After the refurbishment at what would have been an astronomical cost it's great, with fantastic ambience. The food is as always great & parking weekdays is never a problem. One tiny criticism is the music which is too loud & necessary. Friends meet for pub lunches to talk, not to listen to dated music. Highly recomended though!

Came here for a lunch event. The food was below average - the meat was dry & lacked flavour. The terrace room was nice and spacious however the long table arrangement was a tight space, so guests had difficulty getting in and out. The staff were not that friendly either.

The accomodation was oddly surprising. We read other reviews about the place and weren't expecting anything crash hot, but when we got into the room we were happily surprised. The value for money was there considering the cbd is so close and is a great place to stay if you need somewhere to crash in the city for the night.

No aircon no tv. What am I meant to do. Hot summer weather and aircon was weak. Refund process with the hotel was bad. When I do call staff said they will call me back. I never got my call back and this happened 2 times. Usually I would never write a review but I could not help but to with the overall experience I had.

  • Allie B

Came here in a pinch, as we were starving and have driven past a few times. The interior was surprisingly large and recently updated. Large off street parking is a plus. The tacos and nachos were good. The burger was a bit overcooked and dry. Kids eat free on some days so there were quite a lot of families there.

Newly renovated but always a poor experience any kind of entertainment even just watching sport the main big screen is always not working/off and then the sports bar big screen is blurry/staticy with lack of sound from the speakers in the roof. No wonder it always seems empty can't even get the small things right

  • Jason Ma

Although the room was a little bit old, but their customer service is pretty good. My girlfriend lost her two clothes and call them. They checked two times and finally checked with cleaner who found them. They called back shortly and promised it would be mailed to Melbourne which is the place we live by post.

  • Jordan Boyle

I stayed one night. The check in process was ok except it was not clear that you check in in the bottle shop. The room was simple and clean but the amenities were not great. The iron was destroyed with scratches all over the base and the bed only had one thin blanket. There was no spare. Otherwise an ok stay

The pricing does not match the quality of food. $34 for an over cooked scotch fillet with gluggy mashed potato. The outdoor area is filthy, doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned in well over a month. There are plenty of pubs within 2 minutes drive of here well worth what they charge.

Off on to the southern cross hotel for dinner after going climbing in St Peter's. The food was standard pub fare but it was done well - the oil in the chips was fresh and the desserts also tasted good. Prices were reasonable and the lady who served was friendly and attentive.

Great pub with good food and beers. They've now started karaoke on Friday nights, it's a lot of fun, you should check it out :)

The hotel was beautuful and clean and our room was newly renovated. If you can sleep with noisy traffic then well worth the stay. Close Uber trip to the airport very convenient.

The room was a bit dated however had it's own charm, there was a bit of road noise but the venue was quiet. We had a nice local beer down at the pub while we played keno.

Beautiful, spacious pub, always wonder why it's so quiet, but then you get the attitude of the staff - 4/5 for the pub, 1/5 for the staff attitude

Great pub with plenty of inside and outside seating. Great prices for the food menu with a good range, different styles of beer on tap as well.
