If I could give this company more than 5 stars I truly would. I had a emergency heating issue where my furnace stopped functioning and we were getting severe snowy weather. A previous company came out and failed to complete the job that my home warranty dispatched. As a result, I was frantic because we were still without heat. I scrambled to find a company on my own and found Spartan. I can't express enough how professional and understanding both Sharron and Matthew were to my extreme emergency. Sharron completely calmed my nerves down by assuring me I was in good hands and they will be able to take care of my heating issue. As a result Sharron dispatched Matthew who was already quite booked for the day but he was able to squeeze time in for me any way (I'm so grateful). When Matthew arrived he was such a joy to work with. He explained everything in detail he was doing to troubleshoot my problem and within a matter of minutes he found my issue and corrected it right away. Words can not express how grateful I am to Sharron and Matthew. Too often companies will hear from the customer when they are dissatisfied but it's not often companies hear about their employees who provided excellent customer service and being extremely knowledgeable about their work. Well I could not let Sharron and Matthew excellent customer service and knowledge go unnoticed. This company's web site says "voted best in DC seven years in a row" and "BBB A+ rated". Buyer beware! We have used them occasionally for many years. In the past, they would show up on time, do a good job, and charge a fair price. However, they have lately changed their billing practices, and now charge by the job, not by the hour, and the result is their prices have more than doubled. When we called to complain, they gave us a lecture on capitalism. We are remodeling a small bathroom. Called them to cap off supply and drain lines, and install three simple shut off valves -- an easy job. Total cost of components from Home Depot was $28.91, and it took them 90 minutes to do it (total time in to out the door). Their fees were: Three angle stop valves -- $645 2" PVC cap -- $189 1/2" copper cap -- $278 (They waived the $89 dispatch fee) TOTAL $1,112 I would expect to pay about $400 for this job. After receiving this exorbitant invoice I contacted them using a different name, and asked them to quote this exact work. They said they would send a tech for $99 ($10 more than what is on their web page, what they charged us last month), and the tech would review the job and provide the quote. So when you call for their service, the tech shows up and gives you a huge price, and then stands and waits for you to agree to it -- after you already owe them the $99 dispatch fee.

I was extremely pleased with the initial communication, scheduling, and corporate team that I worked with to set up a service call for my toilet. They contacted me within the hour and got out to my tenants the day of my request. I CAN recommend them for the quick service if you need it. However, when it came time to diagnose the problem at my property, I was extremely displeased with the pricing for the work. They noted that I needed a fill valve and a toilet handle that needed to be replaced. Working in the property management world, I had an idea of the cost of the material and a general idea of the labor cost associated with this fix. The fill valves MSRP for around $8-$15 and the handle is roughly the same price as well. This does not include labor and markup. I was quoted $780 + the $99 dispatch for this fix. I simply could not in good conscious accept that price for the scope of work. I have since contacted another plumber who performed the work for about 20% of this price. I understand a world of inflation and cost increases for both material and labor, but I felt that this was a disingenuous pricing for the work needed. With this being said, I'd still look at giving Spartan a bid, but understand what you are getting before pulling the trigger.

We are so glad that we called Spartan Heating and Plumbing. Our Hot Water Heater was leaking. I called several contractors, and was not pleased with the conversation on solving my concern and I was put on hold. I then called Spartan Heating and Plumbing and AC and they came out right away to fix my problem. The Technicians Gary and Bob that came out were First Class Technicians did a excellent job and we were provided with great, quality expertise Service. My furnace sounded like a jet engine when I turned it on this morning - not ideal for Airbnb guests checking in for the Thanksgiving holiday. I called several plumbing and heating companies. The first came out and the technician asked if I had any tools. Seriously? Spartan called just as I left but their technician, Matthew L., let himself in using the house code, listened to the furnace noise with me over the phone, then proceeded to to do his thing - with tools! He called me back about 20 mins later, reporting he'd diagnosed and fixed the problem...a piece of insulation rubbing against the motor was the culprit. He charged me for just the service call. The other company told me they'd have to order a new motor and replace it to the tune of $400, but they didn't even check it because I only had a screwdriver. Thanks Matthew and Spartan for same day service and for saving the day!

I scheduled an appointment for replacement of my water heater. I told the person answering the phone that my water heater was damaged and that the Manufacture had authorized a replacement to picked up from Home Depot. An appointment was made for a window between 8:00 a. m. and 12:00 p.m. The technician arrived at 1:30 p.m. took less than 10 minutes to tell me that Spartan Plumbing does not install customer supplied water heaters (my water heater is a gas w/h); and charged me $89.00 for the service call. I feel ripped off. Did Spartan only make the appointment to get the Dispatch Fee? Clearly, the person making the appointment could have simply told me that we do not install customer supplied water heaters. I wasted a work day for nothing. My elderly mother who is very ill and not ambulatory due to chronic health issues had problems with her AC unit since Sunday. I have contacted a previous company that she used in the past who shall be nameless was overbooked until end of next week which surprised me. She could not afford to wait until next week because of her health issues. Bonnie and Joaquin were very professional and friendly. They diagnosed and fixed the problem right after the 4th of July holiday. Within an hour or two after the service was completed, our home is very comfortable again . We can both get a good night's sleep and I am able to work in my home office in comfort. Well the competitor that we use to call in a past for repairs has lost a loyal customer. Spartan Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning was referred to me by my neighbor. I checked them out on the Better Business Bureau website and discovered they had an A+ rating. I called and was fortunate that a technician was already in my close vicinity. Within the hour Joaquin and Matthew showed up. They guys went straight to work, and talked me through every step. It was determined that I needed a new capacitor. Joaquin retrieved a new capacitor from the truck, it was installed and we were back in business. So the actual time from my placing the call, to the guys leaving was less than two hours. I am very pleased with this service, as well as the technicians. The experience was quick and painless. I will recommend Spartan to my neighbors and friends.

Needed a new hot water tank. Called for appointment and was greeted by a most cheerful lady. To my sweet surprise she told me someone could come by the next day and that I would receive a call to tell me when they would arrive. The next day a very pleasant and knowledgeable young man (Anil Das) arrived. He explained all my options and the next day arrived as promised. I have used Spartan many times before - both for large and small jobs: It is always the same: no hidden anything, all explained upfront, all jobs done professionally and with proper speed. Aug 25 2021, there is a reason I keep coming back to Spartan for my plumbing needs. Their people are very friendly and knowledgeable, for example today Kenneth showed me what was causing our shower to leak and explained what needed to be fixed in a great way. Excellent experience! I researched quite a bit before deciding on Spartan to replace my Furnace/Heat pump system. The technician that came over (Gary) for the initial estimate was very professional and knowledgeable. The installation technician (Joaquin) was awesome. He patiently went over ever step of the installation and even found a fault in my thermostat wiring. Definitely recommending them to all my friends and family.

I cannot say enough good things about Spartan for their timeliness and quality of service, particularly Edgar. I had called Spartan at 9a on a Saturday after my AC began blowing hot air the night before, and to my relief they were able to have the technician (Edgar) at my residence by 1230. Talk about timely- especially on a weekend in the middle of summer! Edgar was clearly a seasoned expert and had diagnosed the issue within about 10minutes and resolved it within 20. He was knowledgeable, honest, engaging, and personable. My husky will forever be grateful. I will definitely be recommending Spartan to anyone I know in DC who has AC issues- in fact I already have!

Our Spartan plumber Anil Das was wonderful. Another company told us our sump pump was corroded and needed to be replaced. I called Spartan for a second opinion and because they installed our sump pump 5 years ago. Anil was so nice, honest and professional. He showed us the sump pump did not need replacement and there was no corrosion on it, it was just a bit of dirt. The float and everything was in good condition. We are seniors and we appreciate honesty. It’s so unfortunate other companies try to take advantage of customers. We will stick with Spartan and Anil Das will be our go to plumber. Thank you Spartan for a great plumber and great honest service.

What's the worst that could happen in DC during summer? the AC breaking down! I found Spartan on google with 4 stars reviews so I gave it a go. Everyone I talked to were polite, with an utmost professionalism. We described the problem (we saw ice buildup around the drainage coil) over the phone and were told to turn off the AC right away so that they could come out the next day in the morning. Joaquin and Matt arrived on time, they diagnosed the problem correctly and fixed it fast. They were knowledgeable about old houses like ours, nice and efficient! We are happy to have worked with Spartan and would recommend them to everyone!

I have been a Spartan customer for several years, now, and always found their plumbers to be well qualified and professional. For today's job (which was to repair a leak in our sink), David was no exception to this rule. I found him to be not only incredibly competent, but extremely polite and cheerful. He carefully explained all of the work he would be doing prior to performing it. He arrived exactly on time and cleaned everything up before leaving. And the area below the sink is now completely dry! I will be requesting David the next time I need plumbing assistance. Thank you, David, for your great work!!

Gary and Raphael of Spartan replaced our water heater and did a fantastic job! Very professional and knowledgeable. The customer service folks answering the phones have also been great. Gary and Raphael even came back the following day, at no charge, to help fix a small issue that had cropped up. The follow-through to fix the lingering issue is what really sets this crew apart. They had already been paid in full for the water heater job and still came out and made sure everything was in perfect working order. I highly recommend Spartan for your plumbing and HVAC needs.

I worked with Duane on an emergency plumbing repair in my kitchen. He arrived quickly (thanks Spartan!), fixed everything thoroughly and explained exactly what he was doing. He was honest and experienced in his advice on future work for our plumbing in the kitchen. As a real estate agent, I see LOTS of professionals -- he stood out far and above the rest. After a very hot night of no AC, Spartan was the fastest company to respond to my emergency service request. Joaquin came within one hour of my initial call and despite it being 7:30 on a Sunday and was incredibly friendly and warm. The issue was a minor one but rather than walking out after five minutes, Joaquin checked the whole system, explaining how it worked and some common issues to look out for and best practices to keep it working well. along the way. Incredibly affordable, too. Great company and great employee in Joaquin.

I had an issue with my HVAC unit that keeps blowing fuses. I had previously worked with another company for the same issue, but they weren't getting to the root of the problem and I had issues with their responsiveness. I called Spartan and was assigned Matt as my technician. He was able to come out the same day and has been very thorough about what the potential problem is and how he planned to diagnose. He was extremely friendly and professional and considerate of my time and circumstances. I couldn't ask for better service.

Wouldn't know if they do a good job, their HVAC technician was a no call no show. I set up an appointment with them the day before for the following afternoon. When they hadn't show up by 2:30 I called to confirm. Guy who answered phone seemed uninterested in talking with me, general vibe was 'whatever.' I had someone waiting 6 hours for their guys to show. Never got a call to cancel, reschedule, or say they were running late. Pathetic. There are plenty of other HVAC services out there I would never go with this company again.

Matthew was an absolute PRO! My unit stopped working overnight, I sent an online service request and by 7:45 the next morning the call center had my appointment set for “within the hour”. I thought “yeah right, I know how this usually goes...” but too my pleasure the Spartan Tech Matthew arrived at my home at 8:22! He was able to quickly diagnose the problem, show me what he was seeing, and explained the process of repair. He was able to offer advice without being pushy or up-selling. HIGHLY Recommended.

I should have been suspicious when they wouldn't give pricing over the phone but I had nobody else ready to snake a clogged kitchen drain that was also affecting a bathroom one. Their scam is a $99 visit fee which is only waived if you go over $500 so they priced it at $495. Later I learned that $250 or less would be more appropriate. Bottom line, almost $600 for what I now know on average is less than $200. Avoid and find someone more honest. Their Senior Citizen Discount is also a joke.

I needed my radiators flushed. They called when they were in route, as promised. Very professional. Matthew (who wore a mask) explained what he was doing and why. I strongly recommend them. Great pricing compared to others we called. Spartan gave us a flat price the other companies gave us a price to check the system and then they would give us a price. Consider me a completely satisfied Spartan customer in every respect... After living in my 4 story townhouse for fourteen years, I needed to replace 1 of the air conditioning systems on the roof. The team that arrived came on time, And not only were they diligent, but they took the time to respect the cleanliness of my home as well. Matthew, the service technician, was polite, professional and efficient. He diagnosed the problem (condenser motor capacitor) within minutes, removed the offending item, replaced it and had the system going again, all within half an hour. He was great! Cannot recommend highly enough. My HVAC stopped working and they sent a team out immediately. They diagnosed the issue and had it sorted in under 20 minutes. They were not able to fulfill a simple appointment. Two no-shows and on the second time the plumber claimed "there was a miscommunication" when he was the person that canceled the first appointment and made the second. We wasted nearly 4 weeks waiting and all for nothing. Good luck, maybe you will get better treatment than us.

Very prompt response to service request. Nice tech provided a nearly $1000 estimate to repair dripping tub spout with warning cost could go much higher. Another plumber made the repairs at fraction of cost. I wanted to support women-run business but suggest getting a second opinion before agreeing to repair.

Great service! I had Matthew come out for the first time today and he was wonderful. Very professional, so helpful, he showed us our system and how to take care of it, and he was very friendly and nice to talk to. I've used other HVAC servicers in the past but this has been by far my favorite in the area.
