Most of the degustation items were decent. However, the breakfast was very disappointing. I had 2 rotten strawberries in my breakfast this Sunday and the egg omelettes were just very overcooked, dry eggs where the inside vegetables were soggy and the whole omelette falls apart when you cut it. Also, one of my degustation dinner dish - the pork with romaine lettuces on the side - the romaine lettuce pieces had sand and dirt all over it. I was very disappointed a place that advertises as a luxury hotel and fine dinning doesn't pay attention to these details. I was also very disappointed at the snack options. There were no "room service" per sé, but if you call and ask for food between meal times your options are dismal. They initially said the chef can make me anything I want, but upon further enquiries the chef can only make a cheese platter (which was very small with 3 pieces of cheese and very simple crackers, nothing luxurious), an egg or pastrami sandwich which upon arrival was very dry and since I put it in the fridge to eat for later because we wanted to stay up and watch a movie into the late night the sandwich froze and dried out in the fridge and we went to bed hungry in the end. The spa treatments were good. Staff were friendly and the premises was clean and quaint. The room was very clean and artistic. The only thing I didn't love was the sheets were very uncomfortable. However, my husband and I are looking for a luxury hotel/retreat we can go to every the other weekend with friends or family to relax and enjoy ourselves here in Australia. We have already tried the Wolfgang valley which was great but not excellent so we thought maybe Spicers Sangoma could be our regular place but now I think we have to keep looking for the ultimate luxury hotel/resort because I do not believe the services we received could command the $1700 price. I have been to over 50 countries and some of the best hotels I've stayed at includes the Burj Al Arab in Dubai back in 2009 during their recession, where I spent around $2000 and services included a private butler. I understand in Australia there is a staffing shortage and with the high wages it's difficult to rise to the same level of hospitality as other countries but I do believe in an international standard when it comes to fine dining and luxury.

My god! This place is heaven on earth. Sam thank you for such a great welcome and absolutely making sure we settle in after checking in so late at night. He brought us our beautiful delicious dinner down to the suite in courses. Made us feel so relaxed. The lodge suite was impeccable. Deco and the way it was designed were absolutely breathtaking. So spacious. Next morning we woke up pretty late and missed the breakfast time but the other guy who worked there or was it Sam? I can’t remember sorry but he said let me go see what I can do... chef made us breakfast and brought it to our room. Beautiful presentation, delicious food and you could tell how fresh their produce they used to cook were. For lunch we went to the dining room. What a breathtaking deco and views. Food was just delicious! Kudos to the talented chef. Bottomless alcohol included with the meals in the room rate.such a shame we don’t drink alcohol like that. We only had two cocktails for the whole stay. The tranquility was priceless. The surrounding was like you were in Amazon rain forest and it was just hour and a bit away from Sydney. Then we went to get our spa treatments. It was just absolutely amazing. Tiffany and Katie(I think) took us to this tent luxurious tent next to a waterfall and the whole experience left us feeling floating around. That night the din was my fav. We got it delivered to our suite and beautiful Katie Brough our three course meal down step by step and explained everything about each dish. Again all the wine and champagne you could drink were available we had a sip of wine! Those who enjoy alcohol it’s such great value for money. Once we finished our dinner we had our fire place on in the suite and enjoyed our last night. Wanted to stay longer however they are extremely busy so nothing was available for an extra night. If you are looking to have a luxurious getaway and stuck in Sydney and want to quick holiday please give this place a go!!!! It’s absolutely amazing. Worth every dollar you spend. I’m already looking to book for the next available night :)

We arrived early on our first day to be greated by Lauren, who took care of absolutely everything, all we had to do was hand over our car keys and start our holiday. We started with a couples spa treatment, in the gorgeous spa tent, surrounded by the sounds and sights of the bush. We then flowed in to an incredible long lunch, which was amazing and Manny made sure our wine glasses where always full :) Then we got shown to our suite! We stayed in the Tent suite and wow! What an amazing room and view. We enjoyed the sunshine and the open fire, before heading back to the restaurant for an amazing dinner. The food and wine at Sangoma is on another level, the menu is unique and delicious. Each course comes out with an explanation of the process and the produce, we were lucky enough to be served by their apprentice chef (sorry forgotten his name) who was so lovely and answered all our food related questions. I can't recommend Spicers highly enough, as our first real getaway in a long time it did not disappointment. All the staff are amazing from reception, the spa, the restaurant and housekeeping, everyone we encountered was open and friendly and you can tell that they really love what they are doing. We will definitely be returning

Spicers Sangoma retreat was a beautiful place to get married. The team taking care of us were attentive and friendly and it felt like for a night the retreat was ours. The rooms and main building are styled in a way that’s very conscious of the beautiful grounds outside, with a colour palette that is reminiscent of eucalypts and their crisp leaf litter. The rooms are luxuriously equipped, most notably with comfortable beds, crisp sheets and indulgent bathtubs, a must for a bath-lover like myself. When you stay at Sangoma you’re surrounded by a transfixing sensation I call noisy silence, where you’re inundated with sounds of rustling leaves, calling birds and the wind through the bush - but none of the human or industrial sounds that leave us so agitated in the city. Our wedding day was bliss, thanks to the work of Sangoma - from feeding us beautiful food, to ensuring all our guests were comfortable. Despite an unfortunate loss of water - our guests still rave about the quality of their stay and the beautiful time they had at Sangoma. Not only would I recommend Sangoma for the perfect peaceful bush-style wedding - but I would also highly recommend Sangoma for anybody itching to get away and find a moment to themselves.

A lovely, small, intimate retreat a short drive from Sydney, reminiscent of an African safari lodge. Our bush suite was luxurious and comfortable with a private plunge pool to enjoy exclusively, with stunning views over the Sydney basin. We particularly enjoyed the all inclusive nature of the package and the delicious meals the chefs prepared each night, being extremely accommodating with my dietary restrictions. The only area we noticed that could be improved is the general cleanliness of the property. Understanding that we stayed in January, post Covid, with staff shortages in hospitality a real challenge, and having awareness that the retreat is located in the bush, we overlooked this lack of attention detail such as dirty windows, insect screens and messy leafy outdoor seating areas. Hence the 4 star score. The staff were all well-trained, reflecting Australian service standards, efficient but not immensely friendly or engaging. The arrival and departure procedures were stock standard, nothing memorable. This did not detract from a special few days at the resort however, it is a lovely setting for couples seeking a private get-away in close proximity to Sydney.

Spicers Sangoma is the most relaxing, luxuriously balanced experience near Sydney. We've stayed at Sangoma several times as we simply love the quiet, friendly and cosy setting. We found it to be a lot more accessible and not as expensive as say One and Only Wolgan Valley, yet similar in comfort and service. The team work hard, long hours to make sure the guests are well looked after. The food is remarkable, so much so it deserves a separate review. The in-room all inclusive refrigerator packs Taittinger Champagne, craft beers and Australia wines along with premium soft drinks and delicious snacks. Spa treatments are generous and take you to cloud nine. I would only add a small gym, after all exercise cam also help you relax!

The 3 nights stay the the Spicers Sangoma Retreat was to celebrate my partner’s big 50. The food and wine provided throughout the stay was excellent, the room was a let down and the service was somewhat disappointing. Nothing was done for the birthday even though we were asked the occasion for the stay and communicated it twice via email. The luxury bush suite which was described as being very private was not at all private as the deck was right next to a path for staff to move around in their vehicles. There is the frequent waft of sewage into our room when we leave the doors and windows open. And there were some fixtures in the room which were not working. It is such a shame that the experience was let down by the room and service as the food and wine was excellent. The rating has been revised from a two to a three star as the manager has responded personally to the review and has restored my faith in their commitment to good service. Thank you, John.

Our two night stay at Spicers Sangoma was wonderful. From first impressions of driving in through the beautiful tranquil grounds to the warm welcome from staff and the fabulous aromas coming from the kitchen we knew this would be a lovely stay. Our Escarpment Suite was elegant, private and spotlessly clean with many thoughtful touches. The staff were all friendly, knowledgeable and professional and the food deliciously creative, driven by local produce and lovingly prepared by the fabulous chefs. My recent stay at Spicers Sangoma was nothing short of incredible. I've never had such a personal and tailored hotel/retreat experience before. Both myself and my partner left on first name terms with a number of the staff members who all went above and beyond to make us feel special and to cater to our every whim. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were outstanding with open fireplaces, comfy beds and gorgeous views. The main dining room was warm, cozy and tastefully decorated. What an amazing experience to spend a few days at Spicers Sangoma Retreat for our wedding. The staff were amazing, attentive and everything you'd expect from a 5 star resort. My husband and I had the most incredible stay at Spicers Sangoma Retreat for our honeymoon. We cannot fault anything during our stay, everything was absolutely perfect. From the most attentive and caring GM John, to experiencing the most delicious meals from Chef Jay to wowing us with their personable service from Charlotte, we honestly loved their dedication and service. Facility wise, they thought of everything, organic amenities, deep soaking bath, rain maker shower head, fire place, books & games, perfect decking area to relax and enjoy the tranquility of the Bowen mountains. Spicers Sangoma Retreat is such a hidden gem and a beautiful venue to escape too in the Blue Mountains. I am a wedding/elopement photographer who has the pleasure of visiting the venue on a regular basis and it's beautiful all year round. The facilities are wonderful and the location is spectacular. Trip was planned for a proposal, and bush fires necessitated as last minute change of venue to Sangoma. Naturally i was worried, but i really didn't have to. Spent the past weekend at Spicers with my husband. We had a truly wonderful and relaxing time. Other than the wonderful look of the place, and the beautiful room the staff at Sagoma were what made our stay here wonderful! Jill and Judy in housekeeping our the mostly lovely and funny ladies - who make killer fires - shame my husband couldn't keep it going! Your restaurant team were so knowledgeable and attentive. Manny, Tia, Yasmin and Lauren are truly lovely. Bag-Man aka Mr Sous-Chef turned out some magical food which we immensely enjoyed! Thank you to one and all!!!

We went up for the weekend, I had no idea something this good was available so close to Sydney. The service was excellent, as was the food and beverages, specifically notable was the degustation with wine matching. Amazing flavours throughout the night. The accomedation was really well laid out, with all the comforts one could want, topped off with stunning vistas straight from the balcony. My only regret is we didn't stay longer! Would recommend this to anyone. We will be back for sure!

I couldn’t recommend this retreat enough. Myself and partner stayed here for one night and took advantage of the all inclusive package. The food was amazing, 5 courses of incredibly prepared food. The service was personal and goes with the 5 stars spicers has behind its name. Sam, the general manager at the time of our visit, handled everything with ease and made sure each guest was comfortable and happy. Good service goes a long way lately. Also there was a dog, who doesn’t love a friendly dog! Thank you again to the team at Spicers.

Absolutely amazing place. The attention to detail is what impressed us the most. The food was the highlight of our stay. The Wagyu beef was one of the nicest plates of food I’ve ever had. The five course menu for dinner is quite an experience. Add to this a serene setting, stylish accommodation and excellent customer service from manager John and the team. One of the best stays we have had out of many retreats around Australia. Can’t wait to return.

Spectacular place in a quiet pocket. Friendly staff, warm hospitality, delicious food, lavish suite and it was perfect. The escarpment suite that we booked came with an additional guest, a mouse, troubled us during the stay. The staff set up traps to catch the mouse, weren't successful. Unfortunately there was no alternative suite available so we had to leave a day in advance. John has generously promised a refund. Hoping to revisit very soon.

Nice retreat, it's a shame SAM is not a very compassionate manager. He has absolutely no empathy what so ever. Before you bother commenting Sam, I dont care about the $5000. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at Spicer's Sangoma Retreat. Every aspect of our stay was impeccable. From the check-in process, the thoughtful touches in the suite, the incredibly hospitable & considerate staff and most importantly the incredible food by the uber-talented Chef Will and his team! We can't wait to be back!

The food is seriously amazing if you love snooty 5 star food. I am a fussy eater, but everything is made to perfection with matching wines. Even the black pudding and smoked squid ink. The accommodation and surrounds are stunning. And the special attention from the staff is a nice touch you don't get many other places.

Amazing destination and gateway for relaxing and holiday. The staff is so friendly and they know everything about here. I love the food，which is very organic，healthy and delicious. I love the breakfast most. it's really cozy here and I had a wonderful birthday experience. Hope I can explore other spicers hotels.

Wow what a place cannot fault, food fantastic wine selection great, housekeeping staff (Jill, Joe and Edna) where so detailed in ensuring that the room was prepared immaculately, fire set , bar and snacks restocked and room all clean and tidy. John and the rest of the staff could not do enough for us

We loved, loved, loved Sangoma. Everything about this small and exclusive place is perfect - the views, the rooms, the personal attention, the wonderful food! and all so close to Sydney. We felt thoroughly pampered and relaxed and will definitely be back.

An absolutely excellent experience for a weekend. it is pricey but you don't need to worry about food and you can bring some snacks for during the days. Fantastic food prepared on site as well as absolutely AMAZING accommodation.

My husband and I had the most beautiful weekend at this retreat! The food is impeccable with matching wines for every dish. The service is intimate, personalised and flawless. Thank you and we will definitely come back to visit!

All inclusive retreat. Very pricey. If you Are spending this money I would recommend going overseas instead or visiting the Jamala. Activities are not included in the price. Not much to do other than sleep and eat here !

A little hidden gem. Great customer service and friendly staff. Definitely recommend this place for a quiet weekend away with your special someone. Will definitely recommend the couple's massage!

Terrible road conditions and lack of clear sign to indicate entrance (its the orange door on the right). However the service, food and ambience are outstanding. Look forward to the next visit.

Had the most amazing spa treatment and particularly facial here, (left my skin feeling wonderful) then enjoyed a delicious lunch. Wow! We will be back.
