If you want your child to have a positive relationship with learning, DO NOT send your child here! My child spent 3 years at this school. As a daycare provider who works with children, the treatment by teachers of children I’ve heard is really troublesome. Being a part of a bigger community, we were warned of previous issues and children leaving because of teacher mistreatment. We decided to take a chance anyway hoping that previous teachers would have either moved on or been reprimanded. Junior Kindergarten was a pandemic year so we let a lot of things go. Senior Kindergarten- my child continuously told me the teacher yelled at the students and singled students out to cry. Multiple students and families confirmed this. Senior Kinder teachers choose grade 1 class separation. My child was purposely separated from their friends for grade 1. The remainder of the friends were all in the other grade 1 class. Grade 1- my child continuously told me the teacher yelled, was fierce and didn’t allow students to go to the washroom to the point children urinated on their seats. Many other students confirmed this once again. Any bullying issues was brought to the teachers attention, it was always downplayed. It was reported to the principal, he was helpful the first few times. Afterwards, he also downplayed the severity. Including the time my child was kicked in their private’s by their bully! I was told that the principal advised the teacher that, “if the child was indeed kicked there, they would have been on the floor crying.” Completely missing the point of a bully kicking another child. Add insult to injury, the grade 1 teacher then reported my child’s inability to problem solve on their provincial report card! This was most definitely done out of spite as that’s not an appropriate comment for an academic report card. My child always asked for help to which they were told by yard teachers, “not my problem. Figure it out.” They didn’t feel like they could speak to their teacher because she downplayed their concerns or was easily angered. Their French teacher continuously defended her own actions instead of listening to student and parent concerns. Multiple parents in the community have had similar complaints and issues with the specific teachers. I don’t feel as if individuals who work with children should treat children this way. People who work with children should be kind, gentle, patient and help solve issues at hand. Not instil fear. My child now sees school as a place where teachers are often mean and if you don’t listen, you’ll get yelled at. We are now leaving this school for my child’s mental well being. Now we have to do damage control and reinstate a healthy curiosity and love for learning.
