This evening, I attended the Jerusalem Matins at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, with responses sung by the Husli Choir. The church was packed as it is every year for this Good Friday service. This particular service, although quite long (about 1 1/2 hours long or slightly longer), is held only once yearly and has its own unique melodies that you don't hear at any other services. The Ukrainian Catholic priests in this parish have terrific social skills and make you feel right at home the moment you walk in the doors - we're all family. As well, Fr. Dmetro took time to introducing the three unique themes of this service recognizing that many people in the congregation don't attend church regularly. It was all about making this service memorable to fully help the congregration experience the depth of Good Friday - to experience the many emotions of the crucifixion of Jesus, the deep sorrow it created especially for Jesus' mother Mary, but also the hope we have as we recognize the transformation that comes from the Resurrection. This is an invitation for us to leave our pains and suffering in the grave and to experience the joy and new life we have through the Resurrection, to experience a Metanoia, a change of heart. I've been to many church services where this doesn't happen and I've always considered that to be a missed opportunity to reach the congregation. Well done, St. Joe's.
The Best Ukrainian Catholic church in Winnipeg. They have both English and ethnic services. Confession available during the week by appt. The building is a one of a kind in architecture with wonderful icons on the walls . You must see this gem in West Kildonan. You won't be disappointed .
I recently moved to Brandon & I so miss St. Joseph's, the beautiful masses, & the lovely people. It was a wonderful church for me. It is truly missed! I'm so glad that I can still listen to mass on line on line
St. Joe's is truly a welcoming church to pray and interact with wonderful people. You can meditate silently without judgement, you feel recharged after your visit. Try it you might like it, be your own judge.
Very unique place to visit, research, and masses are in English & Ukrainian. Beautiful icons, stained glass windows. Excellent facilities, incredible shrine within the Church.
Very friendly and welcoming parish. Servise is bilingual in both English and Ukrainian. Elevator access from parking lot. Visit the Shrine and meet the Redemtorist Father's.
Nice church. Has a good congregation. Smaller than when I was a kid back in the late-70's to early-80's. The inclusion of the Martyr's shrine is a plus for the church.
Excellent facility. Elevator from ground level up to the church or down to the basement hall. Great Knights of Columbus here too. …
Everyone is welcome. Service on Saturday's is at 5 PM in english. It's an hour long.
A modern design with icons made with small tiles. Friendly and welcoming.
