A very mixed experience here as I was staying at the Renaissance Hotel where the cafe/bar is situated. Having a captured audience works well for them. The oatmeal breakfast was good and I was able to order cream to go with it instead of honey. The service on the whole is appalling. I did try an eat there for convenience more than anything on several occasions but after 20minutes of waiting with no acknowledgment that I was even there (even when not busy) I chose to leave. I went up to the 3rd floor Raised Urban Bar instead where the service is good. On my last day the young lady with the black visor served me and for the first time in 6 days I received a smile. She was polite and friendly. Apart from this, not one smile from anyone and when I naively asked one lady who kept passing me the first time I was there, she said tersely ‘I’ll get to you’ - she did eventually and then forgot what my order was. As I said, convenience and a captured audience is why they are in business. I also have to admit the coffee was generally good.

Very Chic for a hotel bar. Lots of folks stop in here for drinks because it's so nice inside. Very open and lots of seating for friends and business associates to gather away from the bar. The food is very good. As always the hotel food is expensive. This food is tasty and some items are healthy choices. They serve sandwiches to steak and pizza. The Italian sausage and mushroom is a nice change of pace. My steaks have been perfectly cooked each day. This is the coldest day ever and many eating places are closed due to weather but these folks are here talking care of us business travelers.
Four friends went during restaurant week before a play we planned to see. Reservations were at 5pm. By 7pm, we didn't have our food. When we arrived, there was one table with guests. During our stay, the restaurant filled and emptied several times. No main course. When we tried to leave and make it to the play that started at 8pm, it took a long time to get the bill. We spoke to the manager who was defensive and unapologetic. He said because we ate off the restaurant week menu, our food had a different "process" in the kitchen. Don't go here for restaurant week.
This place has some great views of hussle and bussle in downtown and right next to the river! I guess I can start with the menu... It was hard for me to understand what exactly I was planning to eat with my order. The server did take a bit of time to come to our table but was otherwise fine. The food however was GREAT, as it should be for the price. If you are staying the hotel its nice to have a good food option but if you are in the city and have time to explore I would recommend getting out and trying something more dynamic in Chicago.
Food was terrible. Got a sandwich with bread so hard I couldn't eat the ends of the loaf..stone cold when it was supposedly grilled, with tasteless chips on the side. Fiance got a salad that smelled like rot. Took a surprisingly long time to get this terrible food too. Chicago has tons of great food; don't waste a meal on this dump.

First time visiting the hotel and it was cold/windy/outside so we weren’t really interested in walking about the city. Food was excellent, vibe was high end and comfortable. Eileen, our server, was helpful and friendly, even providing suggestions for future activities. She also gave us the story of Malort, a staple in Chicago. Definitely would come again.

Nice semi casual hotel restaurant. But honestly, for the money you could do a lot better. Pizza was better than nothing but this is Chicago and there's a Lou Malnatis two blocks from here so...

Absolutely outstanding food and service. This is the chefs special sandwich and believe me you won’t be disappointed!! A simple beef sandwich at a hotel restaurant is somehow transformed into one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel , give this one a shot
We ate two meals here while we stayed here at the Renaissance hotel The food was great for lunch and dinner Our server happened to be the same person and she was the best ever Thank you for providing such a nice place to eat and relax

The food was good, but if you wanted anything like a spoon or butter or milk for your tea, you either waited 20 minutes (There was like 1 or 2 waiters) or you had to get it yourself from the buffet and we ate a la carte.

My first time here and bar service was unfortunately terrible. It took 45 minutes to notice no service for me and my guest . I'm still waiting.

Had a great time here for drinks and light dinner . Great servers and menu. Sarah was very nice supplier great service. Definitely will be back for the food and good drink options.
Flagrantly, shockingly, ridiculously overpriced- had a "cobb" salad that was almost ENTIRELY lettuce and it was thirty American dollars. Unreal.

Best grilled cheese + tomato soup side car I've had in my entire life. Gouda + pickles? Brilliant. Please send me the recipe as I don't live in Chicago. I'll sign an NDA ;-)
The server here was very helpful in addressing our son's food allergies. Much appreciated. Portions were large, food was very good for a hotel bar.
Grilled cheese is the best I've ever had. The $1 homemade house chips comes with an amazing mushroom aioli.
Wes & Sarah were fantastic bartenders. Their signature mules were refreshing & delicious.
Great atmosphere and the food was very good. We were there for a light breakfast.
No wifi, no service, no air conditioner. Too loud, too crowded and too damn hot!
hotel/ loop prices.. good food... supper oblivious staff
