"I am so impressed with this local business! Fantastic coffees! Delectable and unique baked goods are brought in daily by a local bakery"
I'm a regular at this café. The owner is an incredibly hard-working dude and the only employee (except on Saturdays where he employs the help of his wife, if I'm not mistaken). If you arrive during a busy time, there is always a bustle of kids, people, and dogs in this little heritage building. The owner sells local art and different coffee accessories alongside his menu; the food and drink menu may seem a little average at a glance, but it is executed with care and dedication. The pastries are made by the owner, and on Fridays he brings in locally made doughnuts (they sell out fast so you gotta arrive early)! StopGap's espresso is one of the few places where I actually enjoy drinking a straight espresso! The menu here also includes a few unusual items, making it stand out: HongKong milk tea, espresso cola in the summer, cortado, and a few more unique items. StopGap is one of the few places I know I can go if I would like a place to work and focus, or if I would also perhaps like to meet somebody new. The seating is limited here due to space-- Inside, there are twelve seats, six of which are shared at one large table. The summer offers additional seating outside on the patio and there is a bench in the main entrance facing the till and espresso machine. The bench shares space with this cute little windowledge so you have a place you can set your coffee. Oddly, despite how busy the rushes can get, there has always been an open seat for me, you just have to be willing to share your table sometimes. When it's not busy, you can clearly hear the casual modern instrumentals of a lo-fi radio going on in the background. StopGap has been an amazing meeting place for our neighbourhood, and I highly recommend a stopover!

Kid-friendliness
Lots of families come through here. I've seen kids make random connections with other kids more than once at this cafe.
My visit to Stopgap Coffee in downtown Edmonton was a delightful experience. I opted for a cappuccino and a brownie, and I must say, I was quite impressed. The cappuccino was a perfect blend of rich espresso and velvety steamed milk, topped with a beautifully crafted foam design. The coffee was not too bitter, with a balanced flavor profile that hit all the right notes. It was clear that the barista knew their craft well, as the cappuccino was just the right temperature, allowing me to savor each sip. Pairing my coffee with a brownie was an excellent choice. The brownie was moist and decadent, with a delightful fudgy texture. It provided a perfect complement to the coffee, adding a touch of sweetness to my morning. One of the standout aspects of my visit was the convenience of free parking right in front of the cafe. In a bustling downtown area like Edmonton, finding parking can often be a challenge, so this was a definite plus. It made my stop at Stopgap Coffee even more enjoyable, as I didn't have to worry about parking hassles. The ambiance of the cafe was cozy and inviting, providing a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying my coffee and treat. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring that my visit went smoothly. In conclusion, Stopgap Coffee in downtown Edmonton offers a great coffee experience with high-quality beverages, delicious treats, and the added convenience of free parking. If you're in the area and looking for a coffee spot, I highly recommend giving it a try.

Cozy little shop with soothing lofi beats. The Hong Kong milk tea and matcha latte were amazing. Very, very fragrant orange pekoe, and super frothy matcha milk. Loved that the Hong Kong milk tea held its heat. Matcha latte was good but it lost its heat fast (prolly also due to the fact it was frothed milk, and matcha can get bitter at too high temperatures). Didn’t grab a pastry because they were all out but the pour over and technique making other coffee drinks looked convincing. Will definitely be stopping by soon!

UPDATE: I'm a huge coffee drinker NOW, thanks to Stopgap! I go there at least 4 days a week and Caleb and Steph remember every single person who walks through the door. Two of the nicest people you'll ever meet.....and the coffee is pretty fantastic too! I'm not a huge coffee drinker. I'll have my one cup before I leave the house for work in the morning....but that's about to change. I'm hooked on Stopgap coffee already! Not only is the coffee amazing, but it is also incredibly warm and inviting. The lovely owners are so friendly and you can easily strike up a conversation with them like you've known them for years. I'm looking forward to developing a coffee addiction, just as long as I am able to work near Stopgap!

I am so impressed with this local business! Fantastic coffees! Delectable and unique baked goods are brought in daily by a local bakery. This family-owned cafe has a warm and inviting atmosphere. Located inside a local historical building, enter by a short walk up 5-6 steps to the front door. A summer patio is open in the front yard with tables and chairs. Indoor seating is also available. I love how beautiful the infrastructure is complemented by classy interior decor. I enjoy stopping here on my walk to the river valley with my dog. (Trails are less than 5 mins from here! Dogs welcome! ...often with a treat!)

Stop gap is such a great coffee stop, but it’s the owners that make it stand out to be, in my opinion, the best coffee shop in edmonton. The owners are always so kind, and when I bring my kids in they always make them feel special. If you like coffee, this is the spot for you, amazing espresso, great seasonal drinks, and an amazing location. If you want to experience some of the nicest people, this is also the spot for you. Can’t say enough good things!

Caleb the owner is a great host and I will definitely be supporting a local business over a corporate chain! You will not be disappointed! Coffee is great! Good quality and atmosphere is amazing! Thanks for everything!

This place is so cozy and cheaper than what I expected it to be! The Hong Kong Milk Tea is absolutely delicious. I took one sip and wanted to slide down the chair, I also recommend the cheese scone I munch on that like a caveman . The barista there is also very kind he really does listen to you. Even if it's a short conversation and as an extremely awkward person, it's nice. What a wonderful place to spend the morning.

Local cafe inside the heart of Edmonton downtown! Cafe is located near Government Centre LRT, inside the historical John T. Ross Residence (beside the Hendrix Apartment). There are plenty of street parking nearby for easy accessibility. They serve ACE #2 for their espresso and currently use Agro Coffee Roaster and Candid for their pour overs. It seems as though they will be bringing different beans from various places to provide diverse pour over options! Caleb is a friendly/knowledgeable barista! Definitely will be coming back!
What a lovely place, great atmosphere, great owner with an even greater personality. Felt welcomed and couldn't be happier. The cappuccino was a solid 93/100 which is probably the best in Edmonton I've had. Couldn't recommend it enough. Not much choice when it came to baked goods but thats perfectly fine with myself as long as its good espresso and oh my was it ever. Would go again if I'm in the area 100%. Patio seating as well which is a plus.

I can't say anything about the food but the owner is incredibly kind and maintains a clean space for everyone. Based on the first couple sips you can tell they use high quality ingredients in the drinks here. Inside they play lo-fi music, have free access to wifi, and have many outlets/access to power so it is very easy to spend a few hours studying or doing online work here. Highly recommend this place!

This is one coffee shop that you don't want to miss out on! Stopgap has a very homey vibe that makes you want to return. They have an uncomplicated menu that allows for the quality of the drinks to stand out on its own. We had the Americano, and their unique blend of Hong Kong Milk Tea which had great depth. But above all, the owner (Caleb) is kind and hospitable. He's well versed in coffee, but he also takes the time to know his customers. That's why we'll be returning very soon! Highly recommended!
Went for a morning coffee date with friends and the atmosphere and service was just amazing. The matcha latte was the best I've had so far and we loved the croissants, I believe we got every single one they were offering, the almond cream, the garlic cream cheese, the ube and the pistachio one—will be coming back once we all have the time.

The music and the gorgeous wallpaper. Cute local gifts you can buy! The owner is my favorite part. Caleb and his family are one of a kind❤ He doesn't just serve you a coffee with smile! He brings so much Joy to everyone that walks in.

Great local place for coffee!!! It's small and quaint with really friendly service. Stumbled on this place quite by accident because you wouldn't think there is such a coffee place in the neighborhood. The coffee is obviously bomb. They even have HK style milk tea which is not really everywhere in Edmonton.

A great little coffee shop off the beaten path. It's definitely a must stop for coffaholics. The owner is a coffee master as he carefully weighs coffee beans and ensures water is at a precise temperature for the best coffee experience. Stopgap is a small family run shop with cozy seating. Their baked goods are spectacular, so get there early before they sell out.

wow. This place deserves its rating. Just drive here. Their coffee is perfect. The chocolate croissant is ridiculous. The service was fantastic. The owner is super friendly. When the owner found out I needed to go to a corner store to buy some bottled water. He gave me four bottles. When I offered to pay, he said I can’t charge you for water. It’s water.

A very small cafe tucked into a gorgeous historical house. The interior is beautiful but seating is minimal. Just down the street is a nice park on the ravine, which is a good place to sit and drink your coffee. Stopgap features different craft roasters, so there's always something new to try. Caleb is very friendly and knowledgeable about coffee.

A cute coffee shop located in a historic building, lovely atmosphere, very friendly owners, and great tasting beverages! Got the HK milk tea and it was the perfect “not too sweet” taste which is a bit hard to come by these days! Excellent location to meetup for a date, as you can walk over to the high level bridge for sight seeing after! ☕️

Wow!!! Caleb has been a curator of coffee and has worked in some great shops around the city. He 100% knows what he’s doing and aims for perfection on literally every drink! I had a Peruvian coffee on pourover from Agro roasters and a beautiful cappuccino. The whole experience is a treat…not just the coffee and donuts. Well done Stop-gap!!

Even if it was a little cold from sitting out in the shop for a bit, I just had the most fire ube croissant ever. Would've taken a picture, but it's already in my stomach. The HK milk tea was good too, I'd love to try the matcha latte on the next visit.

Fantastic spot. Beautiful location, proprietor is very friendly and knowledgeable. The espresso in my flat white was spot on. I usually find Pour Overs at Cafes overpriced for the quality of cup, but the one I got from Stopgap was definitely worth it (A Thom Bargen columbian). Will 100% return whenever I'm in town.

I'm from out-of-province and I'm so glad a local recommended this coffee shop to me. I had the Hong Kong milk tea and it was delicious, with the perfect amount of sweetness. I can tell the owners are passionate and the shop is charming with a warm and welcoming environment. I can't wait to come back and try their pour-over coffee.
This is such a great corner coffee shop that's super cozy and calm. Caleb is always making a delicious cup of coffee for you and is always making sure every person that walks in is being taken care of and noticed. Really take the time to check out this adorable shop and enjoy a delicious cup!
