"Great place for happy hour around Hayes valley after work! They provide free bite sized sushi, chips, and other types of food such as sandwiches during happy hour, and the food is pretty delicious too! Bartenders are friendly"

"I love sugar for so many reasons: - happy hour specials - daily specials - Friday’s daily special is a not too sweet, but v dangerous strawberry margarita - comfy couches - low lighting - not quite divey, but also zero pretentiousness - chips when they first open, snack size candy all night (at end of bar) Their Paloma & Richmond gimlet are my go-to if I’m there on a day of week that isn’t Friday (strawb marg special) Be careful with the well liquor lol if you’re a liquor snob ask before they make your drink ;)

Great place for happy hour around Hayes valley after work! They provide free bite sized sushi, chips, and other types of food such as sandwiches during happy hour, and the food is pretty delicious too! Bartenders are friendly. The music is a tad bit loud so if you're looking to come here for a deep heart felt conversation it may not be the best place as it is just slightly hard to hear. Other than that, I've always had great times coming here. They have a TV in the back that they sometimes play the big sports games going on there. Very clean place with some sofa couches to lounge on and chairs near the food and bar area.
First time visiting - had such a good time and so did everyone in my group! We came over to have a drink as a start to my friends birthday but ended up staying here the whole night because it was such a fun time. Everything from the well priced and yummy drinks, friendly and fun bartenders, the music (throwback R&B bangers!) and the other bar patrons make this a must visit. And I really really appreciate the sour patch kids and snickers snacks at the bar and water dispensers right by the door - this is a bar that really cares about its customers. I can’t wait to be back with more friends!

I almost feel this is a dive bar disguised as a nice lounge. The ambience is nice, the location is nice, and even the bartenders look really nice. However, it still feels like you are in a dive bar in the middle of downtown. The drinks pretty good. I had the Pepper Kahn and thought it was delicious. The pineapple martini was too sweet. and the bender will get you twisted! Then i just stick to my Jameson, can never go wrong with that. Surprisingly, this place can get a little packed, but not ridiculous.
I have been here twice. What a unique lounge. There is a digital billboard flashing their twelve special drinks. The decor is perfect for after work or a date. The lighting is perfect. The bartender was helpful and fun. There are three lounge areas. One upfront and in the back of the bar area are relaxing and comfotable for good conversation with friends. There is another lounge in the back for larger parties. What a great after work hangout. Clientele is generally under 40.
This was my first visit to Sugar since before the COVID lockdown. I was happy to find that it was full of customers and happy talk. My friends and I found a secluded spot in the very back where we could enjoy our conversation and not be far from the crowd. The only real downside was the wait for drinks. That's not a slam against the staff; it was just packed. Good drinks and free bags of stacks up front. If you're sensitive to noise, don't go; otherwise, go.
Cool place to grab drinks and catch up with your friends before your dinner reservations around Hayes Valley. This bar/lounge can get pretty busy due to the foot traffic coming from people going to the opera or waiting on their restaurant reservations nearby. Have no fear, the bartenders are the best and pretty quick to quench your thirst! They have tons of themed drinks that are all under $10. They have a great HH til 7 everyday with free appetizers.
This is another cool lounge in the city. Not as much sitting area as other places, but they still have places to sit. They have some tv's so you can watch some sports if there is some on. They have good drinks and a friendly staff. Not sure if they always do it, but sometimes they had little finger food to grub on while you are there. They also have some live music on the weekends so you can get your boogie on.
I went with a few of my buddies randomly and this place turned out to be pretty awesome!!! The bar seems to be for an older crowd and I’m 35 so there’s that but everything else is Sweet!! I told the bartender I didn’t like how my drink was made and I want to say it was the owner overheard and he apologized to me and said “Your next 3 rounds are on me!” That’s pretty cool and the comfy chairs are a plus!!!!
What a cute little bar! We visited after a symphony concert on a Thursday, and there was more than enough room for three of us to get a table. The craft cocktail menu is diverse and definitely leans more sweet and fruity, but they are also happy to make any classic cocktail you might want. I got the Mandarin Mule which was light, fruity, and refreshing but not overwhelmingly sweet. Highly recommended!
There's always a decent crowd but it tends to be friendly. The space is open late for the neighborhood, which is nice. Drinks are tasty and the cocktails are well mixed, but on the pricier side. Only complaint is that it tends to get super loud; the volume is what you'd expect from a dance club, but for a lounge it's way too noisy to chat comfortably, so you'll be shouting at the person next to you.
It's a serious vibe. I wasn't ready for the 21 year old newbie college kid drunk crowd but the music was great, drinks were strong, people were fun, and IT IS PACKED on a Fri/Sat night. It's a wild ride . Definitely fun if you're into the loud sweet strong drinking crowd. The bartenders are really good and fast. They have top shelf and all levels of alcohol. Great options. Try it out!
My friend really likes this place. Me, eh, it's soso. Very small place, decor is budget glam verging on tacky. Strawberry Margaretta is a tasty happy hour special. Otherwise drinks are over priced, $10 for southern comfort on the rocks, cough. Music is 80's or 90's top 40, so blah. They do offer some free chips and spicy melted cheese thing, which is why my friend likes the place, free nosh....
This is probably the cutest bar I've been to! They have cute furniture and a girly vibe, as well as free candy available. The Watermelon Long Island iced tea was not on the menu but I ordered it and it was delicious! It tastes exactly like a Jolly Rancher! We got to sit on the comfy couches near the front which really made the place a good spot to hang out with friends.
Cool bar in Hayes valley with great drink selection and hip vibe. Although not a very big bar, they have some great specialty cocktails (try the Richmond Gimlet) and the ambiance and decor are very modern and cool. The music is loud but not so much you can't hold a conversation. Bartenders are friendly and overall this is a fun spot to grab a drink after dinner.
A fun neighborhood bar that keeps it quiet when need be but knows how to make a mean sugary drink (or not-so-sugary if that's what you prefer). The bartenders have always been friendly and know their craft well. Ask them for a special drink and I'm sure they'd be happy to create something just for you. Make sure they're not crazy busy first ;)
Stop here for super girly cocktails that are delicious! We came here on a Saturday evening while bar hopping and it was a fun time. The place could be better with a little bit more air conditioning, but the drinks were pretty good. There is a small cozy hideout in the back that fit about 4 people, but plenty of space outside of that too.
This a low key lounge with dim light decor. It has a full bar and a menu of cocktails. They have happy hour specials where you can get free chips and salsa. A good place to check out before a show or general happy hour. We ordered the watermelon long islands which was delicious but strong! Highly recommend this creative cocktails place.
5$ drinks until 7:30 for happy hour, and free snacks? Felt too good to be true, the 5$ strawberry margs tasted pretty good too. Come here to start a night. The happy hour drink rotates daily, but all well drinks and beers are $5 during that time as well. The vibe inside was pretty laid back - not the most space but didn’t feel crowded.
Uhm, I felt awkward and somewhat unsafe there. Seemed like a bit of a sketchy place, but was the only one open on the night to get a drink. Just your regular student type bar where everything is sticky and stinky. Drinks were nothing special, if anything was rather bad. Bathroom was filthy. Most definitely will not go there again.
Got id at the entrance, then at the bar I was again id rudely asked, after that uncomfortable exchange I left no tip and the bartender confronted me about leaving no tip. Then proceeded to threaten me saying that it was my last drink. I had never seen this guy working here, my previous visits were great, I won’t be going again
Excellent cocktails, but qasnt a free appetizer in sight and I wasn't really acknowledged when I arrived. I was ready to spend money bet felt unimportant. The bartender did however, certainly know how to make a drink. He even double checked its cinnamon garnish. The texastini banged. I'd come back with friends perhaps.
The drinks were so good that we ordered a (not pictured) third round. The fresh garnish on each drink was such a pleasant surprise. Not sure why people are upset there's no food. It's a bar, not a restaurant. The regular and Halloween decorations were so cute. Definitely coming back next time I'm in the neighborhood.
Love this place. Gets packed wed-sat and it's a local spot. They have solid cocktails on their menu and great hh on the daily drink specials. Also, they have snacks during hh. My dog likes this place too

Only been for Happy Hour, but really enjoyed myself. Food was made by one of the Korean staff members and had a wonderful Korean flair to some free finger foods. Drinks were done right, and reasonable in price. Locals were really friendly and though I was there alone, I wasn't without good conversation for long!
My boyfriend loves this place and he finally convinced me to go. I had some delicious spicey vodka cocktail that I absolutely will go back for again. Because there are so many good mixed drinks on the menu service can be a little slow, but the bar staff was hustling, friendly and the drinks were worth the wait!
Ahhh I felt like I was in a thriving city in a swanky lounge for drinks and getting dolled up felt nice. San Francisco can be super laid back for drinking. I approve of this place being a former big city gal from Texas. Service was great and drinks were tasty! Mezcal Paloma was my favorite!
This is a pretty good bar, funky seating and lots of cocktails. It’s a little out of the way of the rest of the of the bars in Hayes, which is good for general availability of seats and ordering. Nothing wrong with it but for some reason, just not my favorite place.
Been there in december 2021. The bar is nice, the cocktails are good actually but the staff... the bartender (hawaiian i guess?) was rude. he kicked out a couple for no reason and beat up a guy. SHAME!

If you’re looking for a great cocktail bar, this is the place! Every drink I’ve had has been flavorful and well balanced (though I think I’m mostly happy because they make spicy cocktails - my fave). Highly recommend but be warned: this bar gets packed!
Hidden Hayes Valley watering hole. Been around for 15-20 years. No frills, great vibe. Great for a date or a chill evening with a small group (seating is limited). What makes this place great - it's on a stretch with some great Hayes Valley
Decent cocktails, usually a moderately sized crowd - not dead, not packed like sardines. Service is fine. Overall kind of a weird vibe to the place, but not a bad spot for a pit stop or night cap on an otherwise dead evening in Hayes Valley.
Waited at the bar for 20 minutes to be completely ignored while the bartender served his friends, drank shots that his friends bought him, and continued to serve people who came up to the *side* of the bar as opposed to the people standing
Drinks were great! Good environment! Is a small spot and it wasn’t as crowded as the other bars in that same street. I feel like its a little underrated. I recommend this spot when the other bars are just filled and lines are nonstop
Always a pleasure for fun banter and cocktails served by Shaun. December the decor fits the holiday spirit with tall nutcrackers, holiday wreaths and ornamental balls hanging from the ceiling. Always a good time. Until next time.
Dimly lit, okay drinks that are quite sweet, and more of a locals crowd. I recommend stopping into one of the wine bars across the street, such as Arliquin or Anina a block away! Very good cocktails and/or wine with ambiance.
Great people and atmosphere! The drinks were delicious and a good price.

My go to spot for a drink before a show at Rickshaw stop. Cocktails are great and they have comfortable couch seating in the front. It can get a little busy so sometimes you have to wait for a drink at the bar.
Warm and friendly neighborhood bar with plenty of space for lounging. Come meet the friendly locals.

Comfortable bar in Hayes Valley that has a "locals" vibe. Happy hour prices are very reasonable. Not particularly crowded, with turnover driven by people stopping in before heading on to dinner, symphony, etc.
Good outdoor vibe - esp when there's something happening in Hayes. But the drinks? Meh. Not memorable - my mule was bitter and full of pulp. Two turnoffs - but again, the neighborhood vibe might make up for it
A few of the other local bars told us that sugar lounge wasn't the best choice in the area, but we decided that they were lying. Great bar staff, cocktails, music was on point and overall comfortable seating
I love this place. The atmosphere is amazing and the lighting is perfect. This has to be one of the best place for happy hour in S.F. The drink prices are great and the owner makes appetizers that are free.
I had some drink questions, and the bartender was so kind to answer them. It wasn't too crazy, so I'm guessing that's why he had a moment. Cozy and great atmosphere - happy to have had a moment to stop in!
5 stars for Dussey! It’s some of the hardest working staff here and the environment is amazing! This is for sure a monument of San Francisco. A place filled with memories one will never forget! More
It is a small bar and lounge complete with soft comfy couches and softly lit seating areas. The drinks there are amazing. It's a good place for a small group outing or a cute way to end a date!

Cool spot we found after visiting the SF Symphony. Music over the speakers was great and the lounge atmosphere proved easy-going. Cool set of drinks being promoted that our crew stuck to.

Amazing staff. Always feel welcome and at home. Lot of locals mixed in with tourists. Great date spot with couches for lounging and good selection of music. They have free candy!
I had a great time at this bar. The bartenders remember your drink even on a crowded night and it being my first time there. I like that. Aside from that it had a decent crowd.
Fun place! All types welcomed. Unisex restroom in the back as well as a more private room.

Interesting decor and the bartenders were nice. Unless your getting the happy hr special do not order any call liquor. They charged me $10 for a soco on the rocks!
Pretty cool place. Great vibe. Great volume. Awesome selection of cocktails; poor (no) selection of beer if you're not into yellow beer. Very friendly staff.
Enjoyed this intimate lounge. Laid back with good vibes here. Bartenders served classic cocktails that were on point. Richmond gimlet was tasty & refreshing!
Shirley was rude to me just for asking water. I’ve been here multiple times rest everyone is great. But I felt humiliated in my last visit. Not good.
Stopped here for cocktails after SF Jazz for a nightcap. They make a great Manhattan. Very romantic setting.

Good drinks and location for before the show. Actually, this place looked like a good place to chill for a bit. Hella busy with an energetic crowd.
DRINK: 1.) mudslide = I had just had dinner, so I felt like dessert. Since I was at a bar, I just ordered something very sweet. And this did it.
Amazing local bar with familiar faces. Bartenders are so kind and helpful. Ozzy is awesome. Alcohol is much more generous. Will be back.
Great low key local bar in Hayes valley. Has the good old San Francisco vibe. Solid selection of cocktails, well drinks and beers.
