Nobody came by to offer me a menu nor inquired why I was sitting in their outdoor chair. A coloured woman and two coloured men (professional types) bought some ice cream from a truck while enjoying drinks and each others company. Other people seemed to act silly, such as blowing smoke their way, strongly and on purpose among other things. Then repeatedly a skinny, ageing white woman kept going in and out of the bar to the next door housing type building with and without man/men. Since it was my first night in Houston, it was very late and I was trying to avoid some aggressive, crazy type men a few blocks away, I just sat petrified. Later, many men in expensive vehicles with loud music blasting out made loud comments about wanting to pick people up for all kinds of things. This happens everywhere in the world. I guess society and law enforcement allows this sort of stuff in certain areas and times. Maybe no REAL crimes were being committed.

A true reflection of Downtown Houston's chill vibes. The owner, Sunny is the personification of cool, and she does not mess around! She's an underrated Downtown Hustletown legend. I've spent highs and lows here. Commiserated over failed relationships while crying to George Strait songs and bought rounds of shots and sealed the deal with a pair of girls who claimed they were sisters when I introduced myself. All the while, flying under the radar. Sunny's is like Las Vegas, except with more cheesy bumper stickers to keep you staring up at the wall, like a Dodo bird during a solar eclipse. My personal favorite drink (only available when it's slow in the bar) is the Ray Charles shot. It involves all 150+ bottles on the back bar, a blindfold, and a shot glass with 3-4 ice cubes. Use your imagination to fill in the blanks.

Went here about a week ago after attempting to visit a few other dead bars. Not to be rude, but I felt like I was the only one with teeth in there, but I still wanted to try the famous jello shots and infused fruits. We ordered a tray of jello shots which are FANTASTIC and then ordered the alcohol soaked pineapple. Now I don't know what alcohol they are supposed to be soaked in but I am pretty sure it is damn near close to gasoline. Myself and the group I was with all tried it and nearly threw up they were so strong. It was comical, but I would never eat them again. Atmosphere looks thrown together and is very crammed. If you are looking for an off the wall kind of vibe and great jello shots this is your place, but it was not the environment I was looking for.

The patrons here are very diverse: there's downtown white-collar office workers discussing projects over drinks, blue-collar workers who are there to have a beer and watch a game on the big screen, young 20ish year olds who are pre-gaming shots before they hit the clubs down the street. This guarantees that every time you walk into the bar your nights will be uniquely different based on the crowd. People here are friendly, it's not uncommon for someone to buy jello shots to share with the entire bar. Sunny the owner herself is a sweetheart. Highly recommend their alcoholic slushies, very delicious but they'll sneak up on ya!

One of my go to places in Houston! Awesome ambiance with real folks and good conversation Sunny is a great owner and has a great way of making you feel welcome! It totally reflects on her staff they echo her wonderful customer service skills by treating you like a honored customer! There is a lot of local people that are knowledgeable about the city so if you are visiting and you want to get some inside info about Houston this is the place to go! Definitely if there is an Astro game! Have fun and say hello if you see me!

OMG, searched "Bars Near Me" and this little piece of heaven popped up. Walked in, was immediately welcomed along w/ my party of 4 and felt like I was sitting @ home w/ friends. Nuff said, if your looking for a bat that serves cold beer and good vibes then walk right in. If your looking for a bar that caters to the Hotty Totty then move on. Was visiting from San Antonio and never felt like a tourist. I found a place to hang whenever I'm in town and need an escape.

Cool dive bar. Funny stuff on the wall... I have sat for hours reading all the goofy bumper stickers and shooting the breeze with Sunny (she is usually bartending). 2 pool tables and 2 fooseball tables in back. No food except for free popcorn, but you can get delivery. Cheap beer, cheap stiff drinks, $1 jello shots. Great late night crowd, and friendly locals early. Don't be suprised if you meet a new drinkin buddy, and make this place your new favorite hang-out!

I visited Houston, Tx for a girls trip a week ago. We stayed in the downtown area and this bar was one of the closest to us. We decided to go on our first night there which was a Thursday. When I say the best people, drinks, and vibe!! Matt and Shannon welcomed us like we knew them for years!!!! They even learned our names by night two of going!! This is my little hole in the wall bar downtown Houston they made us feel like we were locals. The prices are very reasonable. Our server was the owners son and he was wonderful with great customer service and very friendly by starting a conversation with us. This one I will definitely be back I left with koozies that say stolen from sunny's which I couldn't help my self I love to collect Koozies from different places.

This was a fun Beach themed dive bar. We went during pride which was interesting. Small bar with only 1-2 bartenders. $1 jello shots was great. They have 2 pool tables in the back. The back area is nice to get away from the bar at times. Little outdoor patio is nice, with the music actually louder outdoor. Jukebox is nice to play whatever you want.

Stopped by in one night, to get out of the rain. Probably about 10yrs ago...and fell in Love with the place. The owner was the sweetest person I've ever met...the bar got its name that way I guess..Awhh!...almost forgot, had great music playing all night! You've got to hit this bar up at least one time, if you are or have ever lived in Houston.

Great place if you just want a beer and to chill. Was made very welcome at this bar. It's not expensive and local people go here to chill in the evenings as the atmosphere is very laid back. The service is very friendly and the selection of beers and spirits is huge and also very affordable. I will visit here again next time I visit Houston.

Really enjoyed coming here with my friends. We are in our early 20s and we were the youngest by at least ten years, but we still enjoyed ourselves because the bartenders and customers were all friendly. We loved the $1 jello shots, $3 test tubes, and $5 daiquiris I believe, as well as the pool tables in the back. We'll be returning …

My most favorite downtown bar! Love this place! Beer is only $3. Music is great! People are friendly! Pool tables are level! Restrooms are always clean! Sunny is a local American Girl! Had such an amazing time today with Matt. First time in Houston and was celebrating some good news I just received. Not only was Matt awesome, but the other bar patrons in there were quality as well. Can tell he has more than a few regulars that are regulars for a reason!! will definitely be back the next time i’m in town

Perfect! all of my first dates, friend hang outs, or sports events happen here. you'll see all kinds of people here. Very Cheap drinks and a train runs right next to it if you don't want to chance driving home. there are two pool tables, juke box machine, TV's bar, and just a good time. I've been going here since I turned 21.

Best dive bar in downtown Houston! The owner, Sunny, is super sweet and really cool. We love playing games on her Megatouch machine. Their game area in the back is so fun with pool, darts, foosball, etc. Their prices are also very reasonable. They don’t serve food but you can order from anywhere and have it delivered there.

Pretty cool duck off bar off main st downtown Houston! Drinks are inexpensive and the huge vodka and rum selection leave the possibilities endless! Once I learned about this bar's infamous "Ray Charles" shot I had to come try. It's pretty fun and different! Definitely will come back for another good night!

First time in Houston and I'm so happy I found this gem. My husband and I literally just spent the last 6 hours on the front patio of Sunny's hanging with the locals. Thanks to Matt and his fiance this will forever be my favorite dive bar. You guys deserve more than 5 stars.

If you want to feel like you are at a Galveston beach bar, but in the middle of downtown Houston, this is your place! $20 buckets of domestic beers and $22 buckets of imports. $1 Jell-O shots. Cigarettes are sold at the bar. Atmosphere is good if you like a chill place.

My friends & I visited Houston for a long weekend & this was the first bar we went to after checking into our hotel which then led us going to the bar the entire weekend. They were so welcoming & friendly! I will literally go back to Houston just for this bar!

They have two pool tables and foosball tables in the back. The people are friendly. It's not a big space but can work for a small group. There's an unusual amount of clutter around the game tables. I'm assuming they need more storage space than they have.

Only place down town where the owner will serve you $1 Jell-O shots she made herself. A "dive bar" in the heart of down town with karaoke Thursday and pool in the back. A laid back bar in the middle of the bustling city where I wish everyone knew my name.

I won't call it a dive bar because it don't make me feel that way. But I'll say this, "it's the coolest bar I've been to in years". I want to thank the staff for the happy, friendly way they treat everyone. Every bar should come here and take lessons.

This bar in the middle of Downtown Houston is an ideal place to go get some drinks after work or before a special event at the various venues and theaters in the area. The have their signature $1 jello shots every day, and some drink specials.

Sunny's is a great little bar tucked away off Main and Capitol, away from the hustle and bustle of the 300 block of main (Bad News, The Pastry War, OKRA etc...). Quite a big after work crowd for such a small place, but Sunny herself runs

Casual bar, with a decent selection of drinks. They have $1 jello shots, $5 vodka shots, and loots of different beers/liquors. There's a pool table in the back that costs a few quarters to play, as well as a dart board which is free.

Came in for a beer ended up staying for 3 hours. Played foosball with the owner, Sunny, and Jim who also works there. Super down to earth and wonderful people and nice getaway from the corporate restaurant and bar scene downtown.

The ideal dive bar. Perfect place to stop for a beer or five after an Astros game. Drinks are affordable, bartenders are friendly and the local color is never boring. Jell-O shots at a buck apiece... what more could you want?

This place was pretty chill. It's in the middle of downtown, but if you didn't know it was there, you might never see it. They've got two pool tables in the back and great drink prices, especially for their location.

I love this place. Great place to get drunk and look at the city lights. Cheap beer and lovely people all around. Bar staff and clients. I got free pizza from the barkeep from Frank's pizza. Very friendly.

Awesome dive bar definitely try the Ray Charles shot it is awesome guaranteed to have a good time and if it's your first time try the pineapple chunks badass. Also the Black B Porter beer is awesome.

Had a great time and is definitely worth stopping by. Has a bar and outdoor seating. A game room in the back with sitting and pool tables as well. The bartender, Matt, makes some good drinks.

Friendly service. Great drinks. Very low key place but being that's it located downtown you get all kind of characters in the bar. You may want to stay away from the free bar food.

Matt was a great guy. Came in and was instantly greeted and served. Great crowd. This place can go up against any bar in Houston. Will be returning for more of the great service.

One of my favorite spots in the heart of downtown. Has a New Orleans laid back feel. I try to take my friends to this little gem of a bar anytime they come from out of town.
