I had my car towed here when it wasn't starting, I knew it needed a new battery but asked them to tell me what else it needed because it was pretty old and hadn't really had any problems and there had to be something, do a full inspection. They said all it needed was a tie rod/control arm and the battery. So I do the battery, wait on the control arm. But it still wasn't starting after getting a new battery. They tell me the car isn't starting because it thinks it's getting stolen (makes sense I guess because it had been broken into a couple of times), I have take it to the dealership to clear the code. I say fine, since you have it, do the control arm if all it's going to be is a quick thing at the dealership (maybe cost an hour of work). I spent like 300 dollars on the tie rod alone (plus more diagnostics) only to be told at the dealership that no, it doesn't think it's being stolen, it needs a new starter and new brakes. 2k more in repairs. So now I'm expecting it to be done with needing anything for a while, that was January through March that it was in and out of Superior and the dealership. But now in September, after more service lights coming on, I find out it needs a battery cable (wondering why that wasn't found when replacing the battery), and there's something wrong with all of the suspension/control arms after just replacing one among several other issues. I went back to Superior in Feb or March once I started getting another story from the dealership, and they did give me back some of the diagnostic fees since they misdiagnosed my car multiple times and charged me repeatedly for diagnostics, but I had to wait over an hour to get that money back and still poured money into a car that is and probably has been done since January. I'm writing this review now because now that I've bought a new car and found a shop that did the thorough inspection I was looking for in January, I'm remembering how disappointed I am, and I chose them because of how many good reviews they have online. If you really want to know everything that's wrong with your car, go to full throttle auto sales in Tacoma. They found things that both Superior and the dealership missed and they charge less.

I’ve gone to Superior Auto several times now to have my Jeep taken care of. They’ve done well to repair the vehicle and I’ve been able to count on them for reliable service. The customer service is also prompt and transparent. I’ve had good experiences here and trust that many others will be able to say the same. On my last visit, I had a real sour experience and I don’t anticipate going back because of it. I’ll keep it brief, but I think it’s worth mentioning the experience. Upon getting the keys back and pulling out of the driveway, I noticed an abnormal ticking noise other than the normal noises my car tends to make. I went back to the desk and spoke to them about it, and had it mansplained back to me how they would personally pay for a repair at another shop because I wasn’t going to find another shop who would say that my noise was related to the repair service I had just received. They said if it would make me feel comfortable, they’d have the mechanic step outside and look at the car with me. While I walked outside with the mechani, my wife remained in the waiting room (out of sight to the front desk) and heard the front desk guy I’d been speaking with say “some days I just want to choke em more than others.” When she made her way around the corner, moments later, the worker spoke up and said, “oh, you’re still here. That stuff I was saying earlier was just about a coworker I’ve been having trouble with.” Regardless of whether or not the comment was made towards me or his coworker, I’m not a huge fan of supporting a staff who says they want to choke people behind their customer’s backs. Like I said, they do good work, so I’m not revolting and telling everyone to stay away from them. I just didn’t have a good experience and I don’t trust them very much because of it.

Both times I’ve brought my car here I’ve had to bring it back a second time bc something else gets broken while they are working on it. I understand things happen, I am in business too, but what matters is fixing it quickly and kindly. Most of the people working here are very kind, such as Kyle, but Barb who sometimes answers the phone is cold, patronizing, and passive aggressive every time I talk to her. (Not just this time… even when following up on car status she acts like I’m bothering her with my call.) news flash Barb … we’re all busy! I asked Barb if they could make an exception to squeeze me in sooner than what they had available 10 days out, since they had messed up, but she cut me off without a shred of care and without even making the effort to ask someone to try and squeeze me in. She accused me of “not being prepared and trying to cause an emergency,” when all I did was calmly ask for an exception. Sorry Barb, some people are confident enough to ask for what they need. It’s not personal. It’s a request. I called back to try and smooth things over, and she said they no longer wanted my business, after going off about how she won’t argue with me, when she was the one doing all the talking. I couldn’t get a word in before being hung up on me. Barb, do you have the authority to tell customers that Superior Auto no longer wants their business? Maybe you have so much business that Jay doesn’t mind when you burn bridges, but I doubt it. If you’re understaffed, you don’t need to be rude and turn people away. We’re all understaffed, we’re all struggling in some way, and some of us NEED our car to make money. Be more understanding and take ownership of your mistakes.

Update - I discovered about a month after my repair that they also did not finish reassembling my car before handing it back to me. My coolant/wiper fluid reservoir was just hanging loose under the hood for about a month before I discovered it. Now I'm left wondering what else didn't quite happen as it should've. I wish you all the best Superior, and I sincerely hope I am the exception here. Brought my 2007 ranger in for making noise. They ended up replacing my spark plugs and wires and fixing a coolant leak for a total of ~$1500. fixed the problem, kind of expensive, but communicative and seemingly honest - however, they broke my door, informed me they broke it, then offered to quote me a price to fix it. The door has had issues in the past, and the internal latch will come unhooked if the door is slammed very hard - this is a problem I have fixed myself a total of two times in the several years I have owned the car. This is, no doubt, an unfortunate set of circumstances, but I expect and have had plenty of experiences where a mechanic returns the car to me in the condition it was delivered plus the repairs I paid for, and I find it unsettling that the apparent goal of the whole interaction was to avoid liability for their mistakes. I got lucky that the issue was what I thought it was and I was able to fix it myself - that said I'll be looking for a different mechanic.

EDIT: I haven't owned a car for three years and just bought one yesterday. I was pleased as punch to take it in for a pre-purchase inspection and find that Superior is just as great as it always was. They worked us in at the last minute, did a thorough inspection and took the time to explain to me and the seller the issues with the car. And, as always, Charlie took an interest in making sure I understood it all. When I get the work done, I'll be back for sure. I can't believe I am writing a review for a mechanic, but this place is worth it. Everytime I go there, I am reminded why I do. The work they do is good and always done to my satisfaction for a fair price (though I only go to them for the big jobs. I don't get oil changed here or new brakes or what have you. For stuff like that, I go to the chains where they have much lower prices). almost as important, when I talk to Charlie at the front desk, he is always friendly and fully explains everything to me as clearly as possible. He is thorough and more than willing to answer any and all questions about the car. I fully recommend this place.

Very happy with my experience at Superior Auto Service! I elected them to replace the timing belt kit on my '94 Acura Integra. I was a bit bummed to hear that they wouldn't install customer sourced parts after I found a great deal on a kit online. However, I understand their reasoning and warranty related concerns. I ended up spending more than I had hoped by getting the kit through them, but they worked with me to offset the parts cost by providing a discount on the labor. They were also very responsive through email exchange. They were educational, honest, and upfront about the what's and why's involved in this type of work. They also adhered to their quote and timeline. I had my car in and out of there in the exact amount of time I hoped and payed the expected end cost. They did all of this with exceptional customer service and in the end I paid over $200 less than I was quoted from a different shop! I was very impressed overall. I highly recommend these guys, so I'm more than happy to share my great experience.

Have used Superior Auto Service for a couple of our cars now. Needed a timing belt replacement and full fluid service on a car we had recently purchased, so i got multiple quotes from shops. Superior Auto Service answered my questions quickly and offered the best quote out of the 4-5 shops I contacted, even including the water pump and belt replacement that is optional on timing belt jobs. They did great work and they do the most detailed vehicle inspection I’ve ever experienced which was very helpful. It took them a little longer than expected so I was given a discount which was very appreciated. When we took our truck there, we had a belt replaced that ended up being noisy when the engine was cold, and Superior Auto didn’t hesitate to get us right back in for a free repair of the faulty belt. Overall, fantastic customer service, very thorough work, honest people, and reasonable prices. Shops that truly stand behind their work seem to be getting more and more rare. I went to this place first to deal with an oil change last year. They let me know then I needed a strut/shock replacement on my 2010 BMW. I ended up coming back a year later and got that work done, and they repaired a recall from BMW that BMW themselves had no solution for. They did a full diagnostic, PCV replacement, struts/shocks, fixed a rattling exhaust and it was a bit of $$ but needed to be done. They did a phenomenal job, and saved me from having to sell my car and get locked into financing a new car. It drives like a dream now, no rattling noises, or weird exhaust smells. Huge shout out to Barb, who I spoke with throughout the whole process and was super friendly and communicative. Thank you so much! Would recommend them, they do quality work, and while they might be a little more than other places, you get what you pay for. Really knowledgeable and fast work.

I cannot speak highly enough of this place and every single member of their staff that I encountered. We brought our car into Superior Auto Service after we had some repairs done by another shop, but then it gave out a horrible death rattle and wouldn’t start. The guys at Superior Auto not only found and fixed the problem the other guys missed, but they identified a number of potential future issues and detailed them out for us with a timeline of how to keep our car running. I have never found a more honest and genuinely helpful group of mechanics. These guys are proper Old Seattle, focused on good old fashioned customer service and honest dealings. Seriously, I cannot praise and recommend Superior Auto Service and every employee they have highly enough. If you want good honest dealings, it doesn’t get better than Superior Auto.

This auto service shop is the one I personally trust. From simple oil changes to major work, I've turned to them whenever my vehicle hasn't been running the way it's supposed to. Originally I went to them as my neighborhood shop when I lived in Ballard, but through their honest service and diligent, observant work, I have come to put my faith in them when it comes to my ride. I now live outside Seattle city limits and still bring my vehicles to them. The team at Superior Auto (I say team because I've talked to too many reps and technicians over the decade+ of years to list in a review) listens when I bring issues to them and takes note when I voice concern. They also have a keen eye for when something doesn't look like usual wear & tear. Because of their service and dedication, my previous car lasted 17 years.

When your kids have moved to the big city, it is hard to find reliable and honest businesses which will aid them when their vehicles have problems. Several years ago, I had to resort to Angie's List to find such a provider in Seattle. Superior Auto Service came highly recommended so I took a chance and scheduled my son's car for service there. I didn't know these people but because of the reviews, I felt certain we would get the service we need. I really wanted the type of service that I was used to in the small Washington town in which I live. Since our initial meeting to now, Superior has never disappointed and has met the standards which I am used to having. Two of my kids live in Seattle, and of course, I encourage them to take their vehicles to Superior. Thank you Superior for being their.

Staff was really friendly, everyone was really nice, but I brought in my car because the headlights didn't work, and that was the only problem I had with it. They told me it was a battery problem due to the anti theft system that had been put in by the last owner, and they had taken apart and rebuilt something to try to fix it. I had to pick it up early because they weren't finished with it by end of day, but when I got it, the windows didn't work and neither did my speedometer. I made it home and the car died and never started again, so I couldn't bring it back, and I ended up having to junk it. They didn't have me pay for the diagnostic, so I'm not mad or anything, it was just unfortunate :( Not sure if it was their fault or not, but the car had been running fine for two months before.

Always A Good Experience! I used to live in Ballard/Fremont and would take my car into Superior Auto Service for any needed maintenance. I was always happy to do so as they were knowledgeable, helpful, informative, and FAIRLY priced. I now live on Vashon Island, but still make every trip possible to Superior Auto Service because I enjoy working with them so much more than other auto shops. This time, we were having an inspection done on a used car we were considering buying. The inspection was super thorough and again, they provided extensive details on what they found and their recommendations. I highly recommend this service for anyone considering buying a used car - especially if there are limited maintenance records available for the vehicle. Thanks again!

This is my "go to" auto shop. There's an old saying, "Fast, cheap, and good: pick two". These guys are fast and good and, let's be honest, when have you ever saved money doing it on the cheap? It's a local business and the guy who worked on my car last week also worked on it last year. They're big enough to have all the tools and expertise you need but small enough not to be some dealership wrench mill with a steady stream of recent graduates cycling through. You'll always see the same guys working here and that's the sign of a good shop, low turnover. And the work they do stays done. There's no going back over and over again to have them "guess again". They do it right the first time. It's a well named shop. Superior.

What an awesome, friendly, and highly ethical team of professionals. I had no previous experience working with Superior, but found them on BizX. I called to see if they could replace an engine in my high mileage F150, and from the first couple of conversations I felt that they could easily manage the job...and they did. All communication was responsive, detailed and without any pressure. Once I decided to have the job done, they kept me updated on the progress and the expected completion date. Their timing was spot on, and I have since been driving the truck with no issues whatsoever. Note, although they are a long drive from my home in Issaquah, I will be using them for all vehicle servicing in the future.

I've brought my car in twice now and I really like them. It can be slow to get an appointment because they're so busy but very reliable and good customer service. They helped fit me in when I had some serious car problems recently and even though I had to wait a few days they got back to me with an assessment and quote really fast l. I also brought my car in right before memorial day weekend and they worked late just to get me my car back Friday night so I wouldn't have to wait for the long weekend! The quote was very reasonable for the required repairs and all repairs so far have been fully reliable. I hope I won't need a mechanic anytime soon but I know I'd want to come back here if I needed it.

Once again Superior did an excellent job with the maintenance of my vehicle. My car is old (1999 Toyota Rav 4) and Superior has helped me develop a maintenance plan to keep the vehicle running for another, hopefully 50.000 miles. They communicated frequently with the status of repairs and kept me up to date with the schedule and outlook of completion. When the vehicle was finished, it felt like I was now driving a new car and ran so so much better. Im grateful to Superior, especially the mechanic, Chris T and Service Advisor, Kyle O. for their superior work and for great communication with the repairs. These guys are always stellar in regard to customer service as well as quality of car car. While my car was being serviced by them, I went to walk around the neighborhood, and ran into a lady who also happens to be their customer. She too shared with me how satisfied she is with their service of her car and that they have saved her car which she previously serviced at a shop that almost ruined it. It was lovely to run into a complete stranger who happens to have the same positive experience as I do with these wonderful people. She also led me to a little library where I found a fantastic book on health, but that's a whole different review.

I have taken five cars to Superior Auto throughout the years, and the service has always been professional and exact, as to the repairs that needed to be done on the vehicles. Their prices are very comparable to other repair shops as well. On my most recent visit, I chose what I thought would be the most important fixes needed right away, to a used car I had purchased just months earlier. I think I chose correctly, because the car has more get up and go now, and the front brakes don't grind anymore! And, it will be even better, when I get the other couple of items taken care of. I love this place! They are honest with me, and never made me feel like they were out to just get my money. I love that they tell you what is most important and what can wait. Prices are more than reasonable for services, which is great, and I like the early hours; you can drop your car off before work. I recommend them to anyone in the area. If I had to say one thing, I wish there was a time estimate for services. As someone who doesn't know cars at all, it would be nice to know when booking how long services take (an hour, a day, overnight, etc). This would make it a bit easier to plan ahead. Still love them though!

Really nice place. Staff are friendly and professional. I had some squeaking sound coming from the suspention when turning the wheels at low speed. After inspection, they determined that the car is safe to drive despite the sound and they didn't charge me anything for the inspection. I tried another auto service place nearby for the next maintenance and asked the same question about the squeaking sound. They came up with the same conclusion but charged me over $100 for the labor. In conclusion, Superior auto is an honest, professional and nice place to have the car serviced.

I brought my car in to superior automotive after I realized I may have a coolant leak. The issue ended up being more complex than expected but during the entire process I was kept up to date on progress of diagnostics. Ultimately they told me it was an issue that needed to be taken to a dealership mechanic. Regardless, the superior automotive team told me what their findings were and charged me an extremely reasonable price for the complex diagnostics they had to perform on my vehicle. If you value communication, fair pricing, and kind people they are great!

Check engine light came on in my car, after driving fine the previous day and prior. Diagnostic code said it was something electrical (I can't remember right now exactly), and when i tried to drive it, it shifted really hard and even when in park, the drive indicator light was blinking. A neighbor recommended Superior Auto Service, said they'd been happy with them for 10+ years. I called and made an appointment for the following day, brought it in in the morning and they had it back to me that afternoon. Good honest work. Will go there again when needed.

I had a recurring issue with my car last year that had been fixed by multiple shops, only to reappear after a short time. The tech at Superior went to the trouble of building a tool to do it right, and I have had no problems since then. Just took the same car in for a diagnosis on another issue. When they couldn't get the problem to recur for them after several diagnostic drives, they told me to pick it up at no charge, and come back if it recurs. I'll be back if it does, and will bring all my vehicles to them when I need work done in the future.

From the first call they were accommodating and helpful. During the discovery process I was kept up to date and "in the know" at each revelation. Was given an option with a fair quote and although that was not the final "fix" it was honest and a great first step to finding the main culprit. Once the main issue was revealed, it was a fair price followed up by a very speedy execution. Far exceeded their initial timeline and stayed within the budget proposed. Felt as comfortable working with them as I would a buddy in the industry.

After checking out a place to get my Air Conditioning fixed i found SAS on the web, after reading the previous reviews I decided to take my car to have service done. I was given an appointment in a very timely manner, called on Monday got in on Wednesday. They quoted me for the service's I requested and stuck to those prices. They recommended services that needed to be done, but there was no heavy sales push to do it now. I was treated fairly and courteously by everyone I dealt with. I would take my car there again for service.

Moved to Seattle and needed a new reliable place to take my car. Found SAS as a AAA certified repair shop and took my car to get a headlight repair and oil change. They did an inspection and let me know things that needed to be repaired along with a quote. A few months later I brought the car back and they stuck by the quote fixed everything for ~$100 less than a nearby store. I do wish there was a shuttle service or way to get someone to drop you off somewhere close to their shop since they close for an hour each day.

As a woman with a limited knowledge of cars, I frequently experience mechanics taking advantage of me and essentially ripping me off. At Superior Auto Service however, this was not the case at all. I mostly spoke to Scott, who was extremely kind and respectful. He walked me through the damage to my vehicle and created three different and detailed options for me. He explained each avenue thoroughly, and answered every single question I asked. I will 100% be returning and referring my friends to this business!

As usual, my experience with Superior Auto Service was outstanding. I came in for an oil change and the service was completed quickly, within an hour, as promised. Additionally, they offered maintenance items that needed to checked and addressed to avoid future problems. Barb and Kyle do a great job at the front desk to communicate clearly the issues and the guys in the shop do a great job completing the task on hand. I have been coming here consistently now for 7 years and Ive never been disappointed.

I will never go to another auto shop if I can help it!! Barb and Kyle are amazing to work with and they are always communicative, friendly, and professional. Whenever I take my vehicle in, they always provide me with a detailed description of what the issue is, whether it's a safety concern, and a cost and time estimate. I've never had to take the car back after getting something fixed and they've never been late on their time estimates. The mechanics are ASE certified and do a great job. 10/10!

I’ve been going to Superior auto service for a couple years now and they are always so accommodating and helpful and get back to me as soon as they understand what the issue is. I had a recurring issue with a part (no fault of theirs) and Keith was so understanding and reasonable on the cost because he knew that the part shouldn’t have failed as quickly. I will only be going to superior auto service going forward, and I recommend anyone within the Fremont and Ballard area to do the same!

Superior Auto Service is hands down the best mechanic I’ve ever visited. They will walk you through whatever problem your car has, with pictures, in an easy to understand way. They will not take advantage of those with less mechanical literacy. They are immensely trustworthy and masters of their craft. The only downside is that so many people love them, they’re almost always booked solid up to two weeks out, but that’s not their fault. I’d give them 6 stars if I could. A+ mechanic

Not a great experience. Went to have my AC compressor replaced. Incorrect part was ordered twice delaying the repair. After installation, they tried to charge me $200 additional dollars to 'diagnose' a blown fuse on the AC circuit after I had paid $1200 for the compressor replacement. (took 30s and a $1 fuse at home). They told me my radiator was leaking, probably because I had just flushed my coolant and made a bit of a mess in the process. I confirmed at home there was no leak.

These are my go-to for our 2007 Saturn Ion, with 130k miles on it. Two years ago, their annual inspection revealed a leaking gas tank. So they researched the problem, found that it was covered by a recall, and showed me how to verify it, so I could take the car to a GM dealer and get the work done at less cost to me. Their estimates for their own work are accurate and honest, they deliver work on time. I’ve been using them for over five years. Highly recommend you do the same.

I love the guys at Superior Auto Service! They have always been very upfront and honest with me about the services I have needed or haven't needed for my car. I think their honesty and transparency without trying to rip me off is what keeps me coming back. Not to mention, they are extremely convenient because I can drop my car off in the morning and they will take me to the metro and pick me up from the metro at the end of the day. Prompt, detailed, and helpful diagnostic when I took my car in for a suspected cylinder misfire. However be aware that I was quoted $1,500 to replace my spark plug ignition coils. I ended up replacing them myself in under an hour (I'm not mechanically gifted either), spending $150 total on parts and tools. No idea what their hourly labor rate is but something's off with that math. Go if you want the problem solved, but think twice if you're on a budget.

While visiting Seattle from Portland, I had my 1995 Jeep towed into Superior Auto after its steering gear failed. Best experience at a mechanic/auto shop!! When I took my beat-up car in for a diagnostic, they gave me the price it would take to fix everything. Upon giving them the go-ahead, Keith calls me a few days later when it's all done and the cost ended up being LESS, even though they put in the work. ASE certified and they are knowledgable in all aspects, do a great job explaining what needs to be done (before doing it obviously) and also helping gauge for how long large work items can be deferred for. Fantastic experience! I chose them over businesses closer to me because of how highly reviewed they are. Well I can see why they have the reviews they do! Professional, courteous, affordable and quick. I called for an appointment, was scheduled the next day, and I was in and out in about an hour, with a new battery, oil change, and a list of recommendations on what to look at next. Would bring by car again. Recommend. They made me feel at ease. I had a service inspection done for $58.50. The inspection differentiated what needed to be repaired immediately, soon, or routine. They provided pictures of what they saw. They also provided me with the actual repair costs (associated parts and labor costs). All this was printed and sent to my email for future reference. Very helpful.

I ordered a transmission replacement and after the transmission was shipped and arrived, I had to cancel the order. Obviously this was not a pleasant thing for these folks to have to deal with. But they handled this with grace and understanding and refunded my full deposit. These guys are always great. Brought in my new-to-me 2016 Wrangler for oil change and a basic inspection. It turned out so clean they didn't even charge me for the inspection. BTW: Their inspection is great; few hundred bucks to find out everything about your car. They do NOT try and force you to spend thousands fixing everything right away, but knowledge is key.

I always bring my car here. The people are friendly and always willing to explain what's going on without being patronizing. And it's next to the 40 bus route, so it's easy to drop off my car in the morning, take the bus into downtown for work, and then take the bus back to pick up my garage after I get off. Inferior is more like it. After years getting service for my car thier technicians could not figure out how to drive a manual transmission. So they told me they could not even change the oil. Next they deleted my account. I would not take a push lawnmower to these guys ever again. Used to be a good shop. Find somewhere else to go.
