Hyde Park having a Target is awesome! It is not very big inside but has nice small sections of what you need. There is also a Starbucks inside which is nice but, it would have been cooler is their was a local coffee shop inside, i'm just saying! There is already a Starbucks down the street so I don't see the point. Another thing I enjoyed was that is there is a nice Natural Hair care section and even a few travel size Cantu items to choose from. The staff that I interacted with was very friendly and give me feedback on a few items I was not for sure about. One thing that is different then other Targets is that there are a little over five self checkout kiosk, and one person working to ring you out. I think that Target taking the cheap way out by installing self checkout kiosk instead of giving jobs to folks that live in the area is a little bit of a doozy to me. Hyde Park is an area that has many locals as well as the University of Chicago and could employee many people. However they have taken a cheaper route by getting rid of jobs and saving money by using kiosk mechines. They are also going to be racking up money in another way by selling liquor. I again and happy that people on the South side are able to shop at Target and don't have to travel all the way North to shop. But, I don't like how jobs are being taken away from people in the community.

This Target has it rough. The size is probably a quarter of the normal space for a Target and the parking is limited to expensive pay by time options. I had to pay $20 to start an account with the city to prk across the street. They also struggle with beggars camping out in front of their store and security seems to be more necessary inside. I went here looking for toys on clearance and found a handful in their single tiny isle of toys (still more than the navy pier location). However, I did find Lego sets no other store had out yet, so it was worth the effort. They're doing their best but fighting an uphill battle. Still not a bad option if you live in the area and only need a few things, especially if you aren't driving.

One of the staff who was stocking the produce section today had an attitude toward CUSTOMERS who were trying to shop. Unfortunately Target thinks it’s a great idea for workers to stock shelves during prime shopping time on Sunday afternoon. We are in their way and they are in our way! With that being said it still doesn’t make it acceptable for this particular young lady to make rude remarks under her mask as if we can’t hear her. She told me I was “still in her way” and told another customer who asked about yogurt “it’s not that hard”. I understand retail is frustrating but please don’t be rude to customers who are not rude to you.

Tried to call Target 5 times today and call kept getting dropped after pressing the number to connect to a human. I finally pressed 3 to connect to the pharmacy but they said they could not put me through to a Target employee because they're on a separate phone line. But I had dialed the Target number and got to the pharmacy. I see from past reviews that this phone issue has been going on for a month now. The phone number just doesn't connect to a Target employee. All you can get are the recorded hours and location which you can get off of this Google maps listing anyway, or their website. Useless phone line.

I have been trying for weeks now to get someone on the phone. I have been in previous contact with two managers there that were more than helpful and have in the past been able to get through the line to someone. I’ve gone has far as speaking with a corporate member and was told someone would follow up. It’s such a shame to see the reviews here reflecting the same. Hyde Park has a well know reputation and not simply answering the phone or remedying the situation after several complaints is frustrating.

Staff stood around the self checkout counters offer no help at all. Ask them three times why the Target app wallet did not work. Staff kept on chatting to themselves. When finally got one staff’s attention, she kept saying that my app was not hooked up right although I told her repeatedly that I had used this card/app in this same store many times prior. What is the point of self check out if it gives staff excuses not to work?

This is a new concept mini-Target. For a small space, it's fine. They've been refining their offerings to meet community needs which is great. But to me Target is still a place to get all the random stuff I need at one time and this doesn't really do that well. It doesn't really replace the further away store on Roosevelt Ave for that purpose. But staff are helpful and it's cramped but well managed.

Somehow I get the sense that this south side Target doesn’t get nearly the merchandising love that other Targets do (I’m looking at you, State Street Target). I’ve come to this location looking for items, only to be told they’ve stopped stocking them here (case in point: jars of minced garlic). Today I got a bag of questionably fresh potatoes (one was rotted out in the middle).

Horrible!! (wish i could leave ZERO stars) Simply called to ask if I can pickup a will call a different day; the phone was picked up and then hung up on me!! AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE ...When I attempted to call back they shut the phone line down and the call automatically hangs up...you all are the BEST of the WORST keep up the RATCHET job!! Gold stars for you...

They too have made the unfortunate decision to put their products behind plate glass and make customers wait before an employee comes and unlocks basic household items. I’m not interested in being made to feel like I’m in remedial school each time I buy tampons or laundry detergent. If this is what all Hyde park stores are doing I’ll be ordering my products on Amazon.

It has the essentials and is conveniently located for those in the downtown Hyde Park area. However, because of its small size, there are fewer items than most Targets have. It feels like this location is meant for college shoppers (which makes sense considering its location). But don’t expect the same breadth of inventory or available parking as most other locations.

  • Vee M

Pros: brightly lit, pretty well organized. Friendly staff. Convenient location. Cons: parking. Understaffed often. Under stocked, often. Cramped feeling to small store. I try to only go here if I just need 1-2 SMALL things. And can be in and out. I strongly advise against lingering here, as the more time you spend in this store, the less likely you will leave happy.

This Target is much smaller than most chain stores, so it has basics (some clothes, laundry stuff, some snacks and fresh food, room decor, and an unnecessarily large amount of cosmetics and shampoos). Doesn’t carry shoes or most of the cool stuff you’d find in other Targets or online though. Products are expensive and there’s the Chicago taxes and bag fees.

Pay for parking on the street..if there is some. This is more so a Hyde Park Target for those who live in the neighborhood. Carries the essentials. It's not big..but no complaints. Always had what I needed. Check out is quite swift as they have self check out. They basically have everything every target has just on a smaller scale.

The location has a great amount of goodies to choose from for almost every area of your home. The customer service was cool and the location is convenient. I believe the beauty of HP is moderate saturation of stores near home. I don't want to be Lincoln Park and I don't think HP has to be in order to be a profitable community.

This Target has a surprisingly wide selection for being a smaller store. Store items range from being much more expensive than they should be (some of the stationary items, for example) to being extremely cheap for the area (such as eggs and cereal). As long as you are careful about what you buy, you can get great deals here.

  • BaronessAnn Davenport

I give one star for the friendliness and professionalism of the employees at this location because that's really the only good thing about it. This Target store is extremely small when compared to many other Target stores. Because of the size of this store, it has a very limited selection of items. Not much variety here.

This store is garbage. They never have anything, run out of basic things like eggs, orange juice and pizza in the middle of the day. Few items are ever eligible for ship to store and their online inventory is never correct. This store deserves a score of -5. Go somewhere else. Your future self will thank you.

Nice store but items were not in my bag when I arrived home I did an online pickup I got notification of 1 item the other 2 items I tried calling the store on 4-16-2023 between 9&10pm no answer using all prompts ended up online customer service who talked in circles ended up with just my refund …

  • Brenda Robinson

Too small and items I normally buy on several occasions out of stock. A certain brand of original 8 o'clock coffee and pizza not in stock and the prices are a little higher than the target stores that were closed on the South side. The customer service is excellent, the cashiers are very hosipitable.

This morning, the staff member who helped me (didn't get her name) was so pleasant and kind with a smile. Usually, I get attitude, or someone gets annoyed when I ask for help, not this time. She was on her way to do something else and was still pleasant with me while helping me with my return.

  • Arris Tolbert

I was rushed in line during a return process after waiting several minutes. The time spent waiting for assistance wasn’t met with such urgency. While I had questions, it was made clear that getting the line down or the next customer would was more important than my questions at the register.

  • Pamela Blackm

I was able to pick up my item with ease. However the cashier was left alone up front. No one came to help her. Management was no where to be seen. It was near closing and I am sure management had to know how busy closing can be. The cashier was kind and pleasant. Yet she was frustrated.

  • Casper

Their customer service is really bad and the shelves are not really in the grocery department. The clothing section is so small there's no point in actually having one. There's not even any baby clothes. I love Target but this Target in Hyde Park is pointless. I would not ever return.

  • meena jain

Umm lots of stuff is either missing or over. They should have been better prepared. They knew students will be coming back and moving to apartments. Will need loads of stuff BUT things not there. As it is they have very few vegetables but those also not good quality. Staff is okey.

  • LCW W

If you're expecting a full service Target you will be disappointed. The staff is friendly and always helpful. However it's a great location to pick up prescriptions, everyday grocery items like and coffee at Starbucks. Free parking is available in parking structure with purchase.

  • Island Bonner

This particular Target location has an excellent selection, friendly customer service and a cafe. All aisles are very well organized all credit due to a highly productive and helpful staff. All items are purchased using self-checkout machines with an attendant always nearby.

  • Shirley Henderson

This “Target” is not held to any Target standards. It’s just a tiny convenient store. They don’t have anything we were looking for. The staff lacks customer service. The security allows panhandling at their doors. This location will definitely never get any of my business.

  • Mercedes DiMaggio

The manager gave me a hard time and wouldn’t put my money back the way I requested then lied about being the store manager her name was MARJORIE. Will shop downtown or return downtown next time. No need for the Unnecessary pettiness and unprofessionalism.

  • Carmen Zapata

It’s a small neighborhood Target with an hour-free parking in the garage. Limited stock but what they do carry is great for the quick store run when I need something to grab in the area and don’t want to travel elsewhere. The Starbucks is a plus also!

  • Tee Bee

They never do anything about the aggressive panhadlers directly outside the door despite how aggressive they become with customers. The aisles are always congested because they stock during peaks hours. And this is how their bathrooms looked today.

  • Essa A.

Very honest employees, my father who just came to visit me from Kuwait lost his wallet the other day and they saved it for him even though the wallet contained so much cash and credit cards. My father is very grateful and wants to thank you again.

  • Cris

It's nice having a Target down the street from my apartment. Parking is always simple and open. The design of this target is focused on apartment dwellers not houses. I was able to stock up on essential items; lamps, t.v., groceries, socks, etc.

  • Gail Kenny

Friendly staff, but all self check. Not a lot of selection. First Target I've ever seen that is a streetside store with no parking lot. Paid street parking. Maybe in a pinch, but certainly not a regular stop.

  • Susan Walker

The Hyde Park Target always has a sale on something I need so that I can shop just knowing that my trip there won't break the bank. Thanks for keeping this Target, and the $ in our neighborhood!!!

  • Vollie Macon Jr.

I had to return merchandise that was damaged. I was happy and surprised and how fast the customer service agent was able to handle my return and inform me that it credited back to my card.

  • n n

Love Target, but this location is small, poorly stocked and the staff is incompetent and unfriendly. No service mentality, just bad attitude and entitlement.

  • Zara Bradford

Target's employees give great service. They give care or concern if you need anything. I always have a good experience during my visit.

  • Sheila

Jay was very helpful in finding what I wanted! There was some hiccups at checkout with Elaya but all was resolved by Sam the manager.

  • B Helena Thomas

Sometimes the stock can get a bit low, particularly in the electronics section. But it’s a solid little (literally little) Target.

  • DEEPAK VERMA

5-star for starbuck inside target!!! Very good customer service by Mr Kevin the manager. Customer oriented and very humble.

  • LaTanya Perry

The store in Hyde Park has great cust service & I will frequent the store more due to the pleasant employees.

  • Judith Leavell-Parker

The employees are very helpful and kind. My experiences at most Target stores are pretty good. …

  • Pushkar Shukla

On the 53 rd Street in Hyde Park Chicago, A worker name Nancy works. She is super helpful.

  • Yixin Liu

A lot of shelves are empty. I just bought their last laundry detergent in the store…

  • Anna P

The service I received was excellent and the return policy was very easy.

  • Ernest Relford

Great store and location. You can find many items in such a small store.

  • Alesia Vargas-Martin

The staff were friendly but some sections did not have enough staff.

  • Paid Paid

It was FAST and EASY for it to be a small target
