Writing this is support of a Lygon street icon and highly recommend this Thai Restaurant for anyone wanting a well-priced, authentic Thai cuisine. Whilst we are a regular customer, we have moved far away and it is so sad coming back to Lygon street and seeing the closed restaurants. However, Thai City is an icon and hidden gem that should be high on everyone’s list to visit. They may not have the most up to date decor, but they are true to what a Thai restaurant should be. Excellent, authentic Thai recipes, huge menu and consistent taste. All of their food is great but these are ones you may not have tried as do not translate well to English…. I highly recommend their goong cha nam pla (raw spicy prawns that need to be tried as JUST like Thailand but it is a little spicy), Tom KHA Gai (best coconut soup in the area), moo dat diaw (individual pieces of dehydrated pork that is amazing with sticky rice - great for the kids as it is without spices and soooooo tasty). They has a fried barramundi with apple salad and cashews - it is to die for (noting they will even chop off the head for those who do not like to see the full fish). Their Thai milk tea and coconut juice are also fabulous staples for the table. Great to see Khun Wassy and family still operating and delivering Thai food the way it should be. Karen, Sean and the Girls….

An absolutely delightful meal. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, not only with their service, but also giving helpful advice for plants to go in the city. We ordered some curry puffs for starters, then a chicken yellow curry and a chicken cashew nut stir fry, split between four of us, for our mains. It fed us perfectly well, leaving us full and happy. The food was beautifully cooked and was some of the best we've ever had. By splitting the meals and only ordering one drink, we kept the bill under $80 (<$20pp) without remotely feeling like we were skimping. There was a lovely atmosphere, both decor and music, and both indoor and outdoor seating options. We will absolutely be back when we're next in Melbourne. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.

Thai City Restaurant is an absolute gem, and I have to say, the food is beyond delicious! From the first bite to the last, every dish was bursting with incredible flavors that left my taste buds dancing with delight. And speaking of delightful, Paula, one of the restaurant's wonderful staff members, made the experience even more memorable. Her recommendations perfectly complemented the outstanding cuisine, creating a dining experience I won't soon forget. I can't stress enough how scrumptious the food at Thai City Restaurant is – it's a culinary masterpiece that's sure to leave you craving more!

FRIENDLY SERVICE, GREAT AL FRESCO EXPERIENCE AND QUALITY FOOD Went to Thai City before an iMax movie on a Friday evening. Four of us sat in the outside seating area and enjoyed the buzz of Lygon Street as we dined. Staff we efficient and friendly. We shared a few entrees (always a good idea with Thai food) and were pleased with each dish presented. For mains we had a dish each. mine was Chicken Pad Thai - just the right balance of heat and flavours :) I recommend ordering a Thai beer in preference to wines (the latter being fairly ordinary). We didn't have time for desserts on this visit but be back to try soon! People with mobility issues will be fine in the al fresco area and just a small step to negotiate if you choose to eat indoors.
Fantastic genuine thai food with great vegetarian options, very satisfactory. The corn cakes were delicious and Pad Se Ew was great. The food was well priced and the serving size was great too. The hospitality of the staff was outstanding. The tables were clean and so were all the dishes. Some of the best thai food I've had, definitely coming back!

Ing thai was closed so we decided to give these guys a go, we were hesitant as there were no customers inside but we figured its becauce the higher then normal pricing. Food was very average and bland like a foreign cook cooked it. But the worst of all is they had mice running ard the dine area.. This really made me sick as it means they have mice in the kitchen. I will never return here but seriously they need to have pest control

Our new favourite Thai restaurant in the city. Plenty of options and quick service. The food was great including but not limited to Pad Thai, Tom Yum noodle soup, Pad Se Ew, Salmon Sashimi and bone soup. Place was packed during lunch time yet we got the food real quick.

The food is super delicious. But the portion is extremely small hence making it pricey. Also the waiting time is so so long. I waited almost 30min for food. And there is a weird paint smell. Probably recently renovated? Otherwise the food was very delicious and the waitress was nice.

There's a dedicated veg section of the menu. We got the Tom yum soup, curry puffs and Pad Mee. All were well made and delicious.
Food tastes OK, but they don't listen to customers' health requirements. I can't digest chilli, so I asked whether there was any chilli in the dish I wanted - they said there was none. Then I asked whether they could avoid doing that thing where they dump a whole lot of wok grease into the food container - they said sure. When we got our takeaway, the food was spicy with chilli, and swimming in grease. Thanks for completely ignoring us.
Great restaurant right in the heart of Lygon street. Came here for an easy dinner and got pad Thai and steamed vegetables, both dishes were delicious and very reasonably priced. Good portions in a friendly atmosphere, we sat inside but decor inside also looked very nice. Friendly service and quick delivery of meals too which was good since we were hungry! Also open on a Monday unlike many places so it’s always a good place to go.
This is probably my favourite Thai restaurants that I have ever been to. Although we were only ordering takeaway, the ladies at the shop took care of us so well, serving us water and topping it up, asking how our day had been. They wished us well as we left, and when we got back home the food was absolutely amazing, delicious green curry and masaman. 100% would recommend going for the great customer service and food.
Homely Thai restaurant with great selection of classics. Pad see ew was particular favourite. Service was exceptional, with Paula catering to our every need. Make sure to stop by next time you’re in area.

I had Fried rice with chicken and vegetables and beef stirfry both came out super quick time and tasted delicious I am surprised how good it was but I am glad that I found out about this place now I’ll be done in here more often and I recommend it for everyone because the staff are very nice Nice and friendly friendly So from me to the staff a big thank you for the mail and your service
Food comes out relatively quickly, but I'd say that's at the cost of quality. I've had worse, but I've definitely had better. Went with a few friends and they got 2 meals wrong. When one was brought up, they eventually agreed to fix it after some ongoing discussion. Other friend didn't bring it up, so I don't know how they would've dealt with that. Coconut rice is nice. Staff are friendly.
Food was authentic, and it had great flavour in it. The staff was so accomodating as well, due to cold weather had requested if any possibility to get warm water which they were happy to help. The portion size was satisfactory as well. I am so content that I was able to try so many varieties in the restaurant

We ordered Pad Thai and Panang chicken curry for dinner. The pad thai had smaller noodles than your regular flat, wide rice noodles though but worry not, because the taste didn't disappoint. We really loved our meals, both dishes tasted amazing. Great price and good portion too (not too small, not too large). Definitely sarisfied our Thai food cravings and will be back next time :)
This little gem of a restaurant is our all time favorite! The chef is amazing, very authentic flavor and texture; delicious food and so healthy...lots of vegetarian dishes to chose from along with those old favorites. Delightful people, absolutely lovely folks and the ambiance of the place is divine. Cannot recommend Thai City Lygon more highly! Best in the biz!
My second time have food from this restaurants, for staff, she is very friendly and nice. Food is amazing. And today I ordered from easy, I called them to ask for extra spicy. They give me alooooottr of chilli and food I ordered also spicy. FANTASTIC!! Without need to pay extra! Wow... love this extraordinary service. I will definitely come back... love it!
The best Penang curry in Melbourne cooked by the Thai lady boss! Wasana is a very good boss and host who takes good care of her patrons. Whereas many places in Melbourne have become commercialized and lost their flair, Thai City is one of those rare places where you can still get an authentic homely meal and taste true Thai hospitality. Highly recommended.
went on a sat night and was very underwhelmed. serving sizes were tiny, ordered stir-fry which came without rice for $16 which was very steep. spicy apple salad was way too spicy, curry puffs were a lot smaller than what was pictured. disappointed from my visit, don't plan on coming back. service was nice however and the vibe of the restaurant was good.
The pad thai was very delicious. I only give 4 stars as my friend didnt love his dish. The 2 meals with 2 drinks cost around $34. The staff is very friendly and the food came out very fast. I ate for my pad thai to be a little spicey and they delivered the tiny heat I was looking for. If you are in the area, it is worth checking out.
Excellent green papaya salad and beef red curry. Cosy and warm perfect place to meet friends for dinner. Had the Pad Thai too and fish cakes all excellent.

Vegan thai food, best I’ve ever had. Fast service, good service, staff had a time to talk even they were busy. Owner told that the number of people has come down on Lygon street due to various reasons. But I’m sure they will return when there is so good food as is in Thai City Restaurant.
Waited 40 minutes for two pad thai and roti. The roti never came. We asked to order quickly when we arrived ... when I went to pay, I said that the food was nice but it was slow to arrive. The response was "you should have said you wanted it quickly" and only after that a "sorry"
Came for a late lunch when it was a rainy day. The only empty restaurant on the street, but my god was everything so tasty! Simply delish. Would definitely recommend, and for a good price too.

We ordered through Uber Eats, and picked up at the restaurant. This is most worst experience we had! Not recommend and will never visit again! We ordered Pad Thai with Chicken, there is no chicken at all! and the Seafood Green Curry, the seafoods are not fresh, smelly!
Just ate a vibrant, flavoursome and memorable vegetarian meal at Thai City. Wasana is a great host and it was awesome to hear she has a separate kitchen for vegetarian cooking too. Standout veggie Tom Kha, Chive dumplings and hands down BEST Penang curry I've eaten.
Good food, good value perfect place if you want to try something different but don't want to go to far out of your comfort zone. The best part is the value feed a group of 4 well with mains appetisers and drinks for under $150. Would go again but not regularly. More
Tasty Thai food at what seems to be a well established restaurant on Lygon Street. The staff out front are very keen to get you in, but the food is worthwhile and the service is excellent. We shared pandan chicken, pad thai and crispy pork with brocolli.
Absolutely fantastic place to dine! Great amazing taste, good portions, extremely friendly staff, and great vibes. I would highly recommend this place. (ps. coffee is aweful)

Tried this place with a Groupon deal for Peking duck. I would say it's definitely worth the value for half a Peking duck. Also tried their dishes but too salty for my tasting. I would recommend asking for less salt if you want to try out their menu.
Second time we have been there and now our favourite Thai restaurant in Melbourne. Small, intimate, genuine staff. Authentic Thai cooking (we lived in Thailand for 6 years+). A bit pricey perhaps, but worth it for the quality. Highly recommended.
Lovely little restaurant at the end of Lygon St towards town. Service was great & attentive waiters. Food was delicious bursting with authentic Thai flavours: prawns spring rolls, duck salad & pork and vegetable stir fry was just tasty & yummy!
Lovely service. The lady owner personally attended to us and was a pleasure to deal with. The food is some of the tastiest and flavourful Thai I've had in Melbourne. The prices are very reasonable for its quality and location - but it's by
Omg I thought I found best Thai food in Melbourne and I am correct so much natural flavours soo satisfying every time I suggest everyone try this place but careful because all other Thai places will seem bland compared to Thai city Carlton
My friend and I were a little sceptical of the price but the food totally nailed it although we only had a nasi goreng, it is one the best I've tested it here!

Ordered the garlic sauce with chicken via Menulog. The food arrived warm and fresh in a matter of minutes and the dish was so tasty. So five stars for Thai City. ( By the way I am a very picky eater and i know good fresh food from bad)
Surprised to find how nice the food was. I and my thai friend were going to go to another thai restaurant and ended up being here cuz it was shut. Was very busy but food got served within reasonable time and was very, very delicious!
I went for lunch today. I ordered from the express menu and it took over 45mins. In the end we had to get takeaway as our lunch break would have been over. Customer service was not good however three stars as the food tastes great.
Amazing food, great tasting Thai dishes. Affordable prices, and friendly staff/ fast service. I recommend this place to everyone. Give it a try, no matter where you live in Melbourne, it's worth the visit. …
Very good, friendly service. Made to feel very welcome upon arrival. Food was so fresh and really well prepared and presented. Full of fresh clean flavours. I had the chicken Pandan, so tender it melted in the mouth.
Service was fantastic and the food was really nice, plenty of flavour! The Crispy Pork special was particularly tasty. Prices were maybe a tiny bit higher than I would expect but we definitely had a lovely dinner.
Best pad thai in Melbourne. Me n my partner come here every month. Our favourite is lemongrass prawns (entree) and pad Thai noodles. We have been to many Thai places but can't find better pad Thai anywhere else.
Every dish was so good. Green curry was the best green curry I’ve had anywhere, tom yum and Tom Ga Kai were also extremely tasty, and they do Pad Kee Mao! The service is soooo lovely. We will surely be back!
Best Thai food we've ever had in Melbourne! The customer service isxexceptional and the food is amazing. They serve a variety of vegetarian options. Delicious, well presented, and professionally served.
Don’t be fooled by the less than stellar webpage. The food here is Ah-Mazing! So incredibly delicious and reasonably priced. You can’t say you’ve had the best Thai in Melbourne until you’ve been here.
Thai City offered a fantastic culinary experience only matched by the attentive staff at the restaurant. Highly recommended for those who are after authentic and delightfully flavourful Thai cuisine.
Had a nice meal on a Friday night. Small little restaurant that provided friendly and prompt service. The meals were nice and spicy and well priced. Good wine selection. Would certainly recommend.
Always nice food, great service, friendly staff, best paw paw (papaya) salad I've had since living in the NT love the new menu, plenty of vege options and a few thai beers if you fancy ☺ ☺ …
After a long long time ate such delicious thai food. Thanks to the hosts. Took a take away but even after an hour it felt as freshly cooked. Highly recommended. Both Veg and Nonveg dishes.
Quick service, freebies added to order on pickup. Delicious food, authentic flavours. We had pad Thai, bbq pork/tofu, chicken fried rice, tamarind prawns. Would recommend this restaurant
Long wait, but delicious food. AU$25 average. I would recommend Charcoal Grilled Lamb with Tamarind sauce. Don't get the Charcoal beef, dish comes cold, not flavourful, no taste at all.
DELICIOUS! Honestly the BEST Thai I’ve ever had and I’ve been to Thailand. Service fantastic, food even better! Will be sure to return when back in Melbourne.

Got the Tamarind Sauce Prawns and it tasted very good. Try to have the sauce adequately with the Prawns because it might be a bit too sweet. Quantity was more than adequate.

Excellent food and friendly service! Pretty much the best Thai my wife and I have eaten, and portion sizes were great, so there was plenty left over afterwards. Thanks!
Magnificent food and friendly service. Somthing different to your average Thai restaurant. My personal favorites are their char grilled meats combined with sticky rice.
If you want amazing food for an amazing price definitely recommend this place. And to top it off the service was great. Very friendly staff and made you feel welcome.
Food was delicious, service was lovely. The red duck curry and lamb massaman were both great, coconut rice was perfect and roti/peanut sauce was yummy too!
Food was delicious, service was great and the waitress was lovely. The king prawn entre looked like shrimp, bit small for $20. Overall food was delicious!
Amazing food, everything from starters till dessert is delicious. Very authentic Thai taste, It is a hidden gem on Lygon st. Great customer service.
Had dinner with my friends tonight here in Thai City. The food was so good and we love the excellent service. Strongly recommend …
Went last weekend nice place and delicious food. surprised why it has not much crowd on the weekend. Highly Recommend. Staff is very friendly.
