Absolutely delicious every time. Clean and well managed take away shop. Probably the best chips I've ever had and not stingy on the servings. The beef Patty's are super rich and moist and their bacon and egg roll is under $10 with 2 eggs and a stack of bacon. Chicken is super juicy and a big selection of salads. Prices are really cheap when compared to everything else on the street and they usually have a line out the door to order. The service isn't amazing, probably because they're always slammed with customers, but they're not rude or dismissive, just to the point and efficient. The only food shop I visit when in Bronte thanks to the fair pricing and mouth watering food. EDIT 27/11/21 : after visiting many times the food is still delicious but the service really is bland and staff are disinterested. No smiling faces, everyone looks depressed and just trying to get their paycheck. They weren't busy today but still they didn't follow the order notes properly and served 2 people that had walked in after us. No one's paying attention. Atleast the food is awesome.
I went to the Char for lunch, with my friend Michelle, and I was sorely disappointed. The chicken was dry and overcooked, like a piece of cardboard that had been left out in the sun. The salad was unseasoned and underdressed, like a pile of lettuce that had been tossed with a sprinkle of water. And the sides were nothing special, like a couple of sad french fries and some wilted coleslaw. But the worst part of the meal was the service. I was served by a bald man who looked like he had just crawled out of a cave. He was unfriendly and inattentive, and he didn't seem to care about my dining experience. I would not recommend The Char to anyone. It's overpriced, the food is subpar, and the service is terrible. If you're looking for good chicken, I would recommend going to Chargrill Charlie's instead. The chicken there is always moist and flavourful, the sides are delicious, and the service is excellent.

Love all the food from this place. Always fresh and delicious. My go to place when I feel like a serious burger or when I want something healthy but don't feel like cooking. Update Dec 2017: being regular customers, we have been quite disappointed by The Char because in more than one occasion we've waited 10 to 15 min to order only to be told that they are not making burgers at that time (about 1.5h before they shut). We've also shown up half an hour before their official closing time and we had to leave empty handed because they had already packed everything away. So, guys two suggestions: 1) use numbers to take orders like the Char on Bondi road, and 2) adjust your official closing hours. Your food is good but can still improve a lot in terms of customer service.
Well, where to start. After working up the road on a high rise roofing job. The boys were quite hungry and looking forward to a break. We dropped our belts, made our way down off the roof and proceeded to look for the best food we could find. The char seemed to fit the bill, so I thought. We spent a quick 5 mins assessing the menu for a feed worthy of a couple of working guys. Then waited patiently. Than waited not so patiently. Finally after 25 minutes of listening to staff members talk about backpacking through Europe. One of the guys spoke up. He was looked at like he was some foreign species of animal. Vermin, a pest. That was enough for me. Horrible service, terribly overpriced food and not a good experiance at all. Despicable.
Got 1/4 chicken and two sides (salad) for $15.90. The server asked which sauce I wanted on top of my chicken, I asked if I could get it on the side, the answer was yes. Next thing I know my bill has charges for sauce. I am a regular at another Rotisserie and they have decency of giving one side of sauce as part of the deal. Anyways 70 cents aside, the Portuguese chicken has a strong taste of vinegar and the periperi sauce had a layer of oil on top, the cauliflower salad was dry (didn't feel like it had any dressing). I had high hopes and traveled from Maroubra to take-away, I wont bother again. Their food looks better than they taste.
I went to The Char in Bronte for lunch a couple of weeks ago and had a very disappointing experience. The old owner was rude and condescending, he just barked my order at me like I was a dog. When I asked him for a side of sauce, he rolled his eyes. he made me feel like I was an inconvenience. I would give The Char a negative 1-star rating if I could. I would not recommend it to anyone. I would rather eat chicken nuggets from the freezer section of Coles than eat at The Char again.

What a joke! After lining up for 20-minutes to order half a BBQ chicken and gravy, I was told it would be another 20-minutes! There were plenty of chickens and staff; all they had to do was put the chicken in a bag. Yes, there were lots of people, but there was nothing to cook in my order. I can't imagine how long I'd have to wait if I asked for a chicken with chips—a complete waste of time. There are too many other places that still do quick and easy takeaway - with less staff and much less complication. Don't waste your time lining up if you see a line at Char.
I have been buying Char BBQ chicken and salads once a week for couple of years. A great after work easy meal. Contrary to the last review given , I have always found their ingredient fresh, both the chickens and the salads. Salads in some takeaways can get a bit limp. The Char always has very fresh salads. I would recommend the chicken and salad as a tasty healthy meal

Served chicken that smelt and tasted foul. Surely someone at this restaurant is doing quality control of their food ensuring all chicken is within use by date and not spoilt. Threw most away but ate some thinking the taste was the sauce. Now I play the waiting game hoping I don’t get sick because someone hasn’t done their job.

Ordered a family combo meal - advertised as part of the meal ‘any 1.25l drink’ - I opted for a sparkling water and I was informed by the server that it would cost more money to have a water. I was confused as the ad stated drink not soda but it seemed that only soda was part of the deal. Need to be clearer with wording on ads and also a disgrace to charge more money (on top of already high priced food) for a water! Also, waited nearly 15 minutes for chips!
I love the concept of Char- it can be as healthy (or not) as you like. The Bondi store is great, however now we've moved I find the staff here and selection let Bronte down. The staff always want to leave early so you can't get much past 7pm, just the dregs- which if they're catering to the dinner market doesn't work. They're also pretty unfriendly. I'd personally also love to see more veggie options in Bronte.
This really is the top shelf of charcoal chicken shops! Sensational chips, the chicken stuffing is unique and plentiful, and there's many many salads to choose from. Always quick and friendly service too, even during those super busy Sunday afternoons.

Quarter Chicken and Chips
Really enjoyed our meal and the options available. We got the couple deal and buffalo wings. So it was: half chicken, two buffalo wings, medium serve of half potato bake, half eggplant parmigiana and two soft drinks. It cost us about $31. Great value, the chicken was also moist and the buffalo wings were very tasty. We got our left overs takeaway.
Used to come here a lot when they first opened but found that the quality of the food started to drop. Just tried again after a while and the chicken is dry, their hot chips refried and oily and the 'hot' veggie side was stone cold. Please don't bother with this place, we've given them a few second chances and been really disappointed.
Omg, so painful…. Queued to order, then waited AGAIN for AGES while the food (that was sitting in the hot section - all ready) was put in two tubs…… while they prepped Uber orders. Get your priorities right! I’m having another break from The Char ….as it was the same last time.

Ordered a chicken roll. Waited 20 minutes outside. Asked politely asking where it was after seeing people arriving after me being served faster. A sour faced server told me my order lost and impatiently took the order again. No apology. Bad service for an Ordinary chicken roll. Will not be going back.
Cannot fault. The ‘gold standard’ of Eastern Suburbs chook shops. I take my inner city and interstate friends here and they are always impressed. Grab a feed, walk down the hill and sit on beautiful Bronte Beach. Enjoy! Note to Char Owners: Please open a branch in the middle of Randwick. We badly need it!
Great salads and the two different chicken options. Pulled chicken sandwich is awesome with a large fries (chicken salt). Plenty of seats inside and out or you can take it down to the beach. Open for lunch and dinner, sometimes has a decent queue but it is worth the wait. Not your regular chicken shop.
Outstanding food....BUT the older man with the glasses needs to be fired for being rude or notified that a smile and a thank you doesn't cost extra but would keep the customers coming back more often and therefore make the owners of this fine establishment a larger profit. What a rude dick.
A short walk from the beach, and loved this place. Very generous size rolls, mouthwatering salads and chicken. Even found a burger my fussy 11 y.o. liked.

Slow to confirm Deliveroo orders due to lack of drivers in area. Great tasting food though. I prefer their chicken over Woolworths chicken. Chips are medium cut, not fries and not chunky fish'n'chips style.

They seem to be incapable of cooking food past 7pm (even on a Friday), and are always closing around 7:30-8pm when the website says 9pm. The service isn’t particularly impressive, and the Uber Eats options are more expensive with much smaller portions.
Delicious salads, tasty chickens and yummy chips. I love the way food can be either served to enjoy in store or taken away. This is more than your average takeaway chargrill chicken shop. The staff were friendly and very accommodating.
The food is always great, including the vast array of salads. Service is good when you get to the counter, but wait times are very hit-and-miss since COVID got here. A little expensive for a chicken shop but you get what you pay for.
I ordered a quarter chicken from here. And instead of getting chicken I got a hole bunch of stuffing with a chicken leg. This is a discrace and the order was $60 avoid This place

The best roast chickens in Sydney. Always fresh and delicious. Great choice of salads and sides. Hot chips are also super tasty. Popular with locals so waiting to get served can sometimes be a chaotic experience.

Places like this make the world a better place. If you are a salads lover, this place is a must try. My favourite dish is the creamy potato bake with cheese on top, you will fall in love.
Slowest chicken shop in Sydney. Waited upwards to 15mins for medium chips that are overly seasoned. Staff looked stressed

Their beef burger is terrible. Thin, dry pattie. Thick slab of unmelted, orange cheese. One cold slice of tomato. $15. Average and expensive.

Absolutely love Char! Everything is so fresh and the staff is friendly and work together like a well oiled machine Great customer focus and delicious food
Best chicken in Sydney, always exceptional! Recently went to the Bondi store and it was terrible, amazing how your team in Bronte deliver such exceptional food!
Pretty disappointing- burger virtually cold, some gristle too. Haven't you got enough upstairs to toast the bun & melt the cheese? Sauce is however very good
Waited 20 minutes for chips. No discernible order on a busy Friday night.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The chicken was tasty and well cooked. Various salads were lovely. A beautiful Thai chicken curry too. Recommended.
Chips ok, lasagne just weird. It tastesd like someone tipped in a tin of soup and got the spices mixed up. Too sweet. Lasagna doesn't need sugar.
Don’t know how they make the chicken so good! Plenty of tasty and well priced salads too.

Really delicious chicken, salads and other dishes. Prices are on the higher side but still pretty reasonable. Service can be hit and miss.
The food is quite nice. But slightly on the pricier side. And when they are busy, be prepared to wait 15-25mins (even for chips)…
Best hot chips in the Southern Hemisphere. I also have to say that the service is impeccable, cannot fault any aspect.
