I have never ever been so disrespected in my life. I always make my morning rounds and look forward to the friendly staff and great coffee. Today, I decided to sit and have breakfast. My egg was not to my liking. As I was settling my bill and leaving, I was approached by a person called Adam, who told me he has been making eggs for 40 years and the egg I returned was fine. Firstly, it was the demeaning approach. He had food in his mouth as he was talking to me. He squashed the egg yolk to prove his point. He also said I was free to find another Cafe. At this point, i could have given him hell but mediating in the morning helped. I calmly told him it was not to 'my' request, we are entitle to each others experienced I found the whole experience disrespectful and very unprofessional. I paid for all the food I ordered. Even the plate I did not eat. The last plate was not done right, I asked for fried eggs, they were poached with no beans. After the rude confrontation I had with the rude man, decided to leave the order. I've been coming to the Cafe for a long time. The staff is incredibly professional and friendly, the coffee is best but the level of disrespect I've experienced left very little to be desired. I do wish this Noone every get to experience this type of service, especially as a paying patron. I am really disappointed at such behavior, especially in 2023. Indeed I will find another Cafe.

I argued with someone smart and in the know that Adam Robinson is the greatest chef in Durban. My approach was obvious - it's his masked but sophisticated palate and pitched perfect aesthetic that's make great! But I was wrong. It their militance. They put on a good show Adam and Carin. Of being off-ish. Of pretending to not really care. But what makes Glenwood Bakery arguably the greatest restaurant in Durban is how you define a great cooking. If you define it as innovation then there are a few great chefs in Durban. Some of them who are pushing the boundaries in taste and thought and on their best day most of them probably put out more interesting food (which Adam has show he can do as well). If on the other hand you define cooking as service then their is no one in the city who can compare. For the sake of service they have chosen to reduced their skill, palate, prices and placement to the purest essence. All designed for a very specific purpose - love. Love of the community they have choose to care for. Love of those humans wallets. Love of their tastes and needs and hurts. And a dogged militance to keep doing that despite indescribable challenges, failures and consistently rocky future prospects. With such extravagant love what can you really say but thank you.

The Glenwood Bakery is the best bakery in Durban. Period. The setting on the sidewalk in Glenwood is idyllic and the crowd is eclectic and offers up a wide variety of patrons, a real melting pot for all the people of Glenwood. Booking is essential for dinners, there are hardly any tables available if you don’t book! But don’t let that put you off. Book a table, you will not regret it. There are also a selection of juices available but if you would like a glass of wine with your pizza, bring your own, which is great and adds to the experience. I’ve had champagne with my gnocchi and beer with my pizza, its very relaxed and chilled. Outstanding food. Outstanding setting. Friendly staff. The Glenwood Bakery is really the jewel of the glenwood restaurant scene

I wish I could give less then one star. The place looked amazing when we arrived. The food looked good too and we were thrilled to be there. So we entered the side of the Cafe and stood in front of the counter where a lady ( wearing her mask below her nose) was making a milkshake. We stood and stood and stood and eventually we noticed where the menus are so we took one too look at it while we waited. She made no acknowledgement of us. No direction if we should wait or not , not even a quick I'll be with you now. So after a few minutes of feeling stupid and ignored we just walked out. Even at that point no-one batted an eye...so disappointing we are now at coffee tree where we enjoying a better service

I am from the UK but I now live in South Africa . I went on a search to find the best bagels in Durban....Trust me I've tried a lot, nothing can compare to Glenwood Bakery. The bagel was fresh and authentically dense and chewy.... Exactly how a real bagel should be! Not the fake bread shaped in a the shape a donut nonsense! The cream cheese & salmon bagel was out of this world! Wow....The only place that can compare is 'Bagel Bake' in London Brick Lane.... Trust me when I say Glenwood Bakery has the best bagels in Durban. Keep up the good work, you will be seeing me again. P.S My picture does not do it justice....

Great atmosphere; warm and friendly staff; I've yet to taste a better burger; a broad range of home-industry style sauces like aioli, pizza sauce, pesto; free range eggs; GMO-free flour if you are into baking your own; bread, obviously, and so much more. Just go there already. I like the fact that they try to source or make everything locally and somehow they manage to keep things at very reasonable prices. I can't imagine Glenwood without The Glenwood Bakery. They are a legacy. I wish them ultimate success and I thank the owners for their dedication.

This is definitely a little hidden gem, where you can smell the food before it arrives. Almost feels like you are in a different city. They have limited drinks and don't charge corkage. They are open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5pm to 9pm. All other days 6am to 14:00. Staff are extremely friendly. We had a magerita and Lahmojoun pizza, which was authentic, rich and absolutely delicious....you could taste the fresh basil on the magerita and the baby spinach on the lahmojoun...simply divine. They also offer fresh cold pressed drinks.....

I never fail to visit the Glenwood Bakery when I’m in Durban. It’s an institution, and you would struggle to find better bread anywhere else in the city (the Potato and Rosemary bread is particularly special). They serve great coffee and food at the cafe as well, ranging from toasties to silky fresh pasta, and top-notch bagels.

  • Linn Matsebula

Have been to their pizza night twice now, and I am a fan. I love how the menu changes each time; the atmosphere, the community, petting the neighbours' 4 legged family family members- all of it! I would highly recommend one tries it, at least once. I would suggest you call ahead to book a table, as it fills up quite quickly. More

Artisan bakery in Glenwood serving home made breads.Fantastic Sourdough rye breads. The olive bread for R15 was delicious and full of flavor . They also have all the French classics -croissants,pain au chocolate etc. They also sell flour and coffee if you want to make your own at home. Coffees are good quality.friendly service.

  • ramola naidoo

Lovely little coffee shop/ bakery. Perfect for a stunning cappuccino (beautiful latte art) or dinner being a homemade pasta dish or pizza. Large portions are served. Their chocolate milkshake is the most divine. Made with real Belgian chocolate bits. Definitely worth a try. Never disappointed

  • Dominic Naidoo

Fantastic, fresh artisanal bread. Only a specific amount is baked per day. Not mass produced which is pretty cool. Sandwiches are amazing. Must try the Vegan sammich. Thin base pizza is fantastic. Inside and outside seating right next to Parc Café. Great coffee. Prices are super reasonable.

Once we found this bakery, we couldn't stop visiting. The breakfast is delicious and the staff is just wonderful. Everyone was so pleasant, especially Latoya and Amy. I wish I lived in Durban so I could have coffee here every day. Next time I visit from the U.S. I'll definitely come back.

  • Fahad Rana

For a first experience having this kind of food, I really enjoyed the experience. The ambiance was comfortable and so beautiful while sitting outside. The service was wonderful and the brownie (which I finished so fast), was out of this world! I highly recommend visiting this spot.

  • Robyn du Trevou

A welcoming spot in the heart of durban. Overflowing with delicious treats at an absolute steal. Services is efficient despite the crowds and I have never been disappointed. Only downside would be limited space so may not work for large groups. I think dogs are allowed outside.

Food and service was excellent. It's a pleasant and relaxed environment. Lots of table space if you need to bring your laptop along. Pastries are delicious, and the coffee has the right amount of kick to it. A very pleasurable experience. I look forward to visiting again.

I am glad I tried Glenwood Bakery. Lovely staff who have such patience and great personalities. My friend loved her cappuccino and the burger and bruschetta sandwich were delicious. I got the challah loaf to go. Reasonable prices too. All round a successful afternoon out.

  • Khiara Govender

Really affordable prices, delicious food and the best customer service! You absolutely cannot go wrong! Would highly recommend the bagels, oh my goodness they are to die for! The ingredients are fresh, the food is flavourful and the dessert treats are impeccable.

If it was not for the pathetic service, I would give top marks! This is what I would have said about a year ago but everyone deserves a second chance therefore have been going back over and again. Lovely service, mouth watering food & great environment …

I may upgrade my rating later after trying food from the deli next door. They do a few specific items at the bakery but they do it rather well. There are tables outside and in and it appeared to be quite the vibe when I visited. Very prompt and warm staff

  • Ashan R

This place is a hidden gem with a full on site bakery producing the freshest breads and rolls , the eatery has a variety of tasty meals both veg , meat and then some delicious pastries. My favorite is the beans on toast... brings back childhood memories.

  • David Ellis

Quaint little place. Small but delicious pastry selection and European style breakfasts. Great if you like poached eggs or bagels meal portions aren't large but still quite satisfying. If in the neighbourhood, it's a lovely hiddde gem.

  • Gabriel

Worst 3 Pizza's ordered ever. 2 of them had no cheese on. I didn't order Focaccia None had any tomatoe base, the worst one had some tastless boiled onion base covered in rocket leaves on a bass thinner than a pro vita Wont be back.

  • Juanita Martinaglia

What a unique experience, had a European vibe, sitting outside and enjoying the environment. Food is really excellent and the atmosphere is really so relaxing. Ita nice to find something that's a little different than the norm...

It's all about the sourdough rolls and salmon cream cheese bagels. Soooo yum! The fresh juices are fresh. But if you were expecting a decadent chocolate milkshake... Stay away from the Spanish sourced dark choc drink ...
