I recently dined at the Original French Market Restaurant and Bar, and while the food was undeniably delicious, I was a bit disappointed with the service. The culinary offerings were a delightful representation of New Orleans cuisine, with rich flavors and authentic ingredients. The Rockafeller oysters were a hit, the combination of spinach, bacon and cheese, is a decadent complement to the oysters. The red beans and rice were also delicious. The added smoked sausage was the gamer changer. It put the dish in a league of its own. Although the food was great, I do however want to point out the slow and inattentive staff, who somewhat marred the experience. Despite the delectable dishes, the lengthy wait times and a lack of attentiveness from the service team left me feeling less than satisfied. The staff was standing around talking with each other rather than tending to the few patrons that were dining. Our server never checked on us despite the restaurant being slow. I also want to point out the 11% added tax and the NonCash Charge that’s added to all checks regardless of method of payment. If you can overlook the service hiccups and the outrageous taxes, the food is worth trying, but be prepared for a leisurely dining experience and expensive bill.

We have walked by here dozens of times over the years and commented on how great it smells. So we finally decided to give it a try. The inside is well decorated and very welcoming. The doorway is small and not conducive to two way traffic. The tables are well spaced and the tvs had games on and were easy to see. I ordered the Jambalaya and my wife ordered the shrimp and grits and the crab claw appetizer. The crab claws were small but tasty. The jambalaya was well seasoned and had plenty of meat. The rice was a little undercooked, but still good. The shrimp and grits was excellent. The only down side was the lady (not sure if she was the manager or owner or what), growling and arguing with our waiter. Staff discussions belong out of sight of customers. He left and we got a new waitress. He was good as far as I could tell. There were several male staff members leaning against a wall doing nothing. Too much staff standing around. Kind of pricey for the quality and quantity, but I’ll probably go back.

Ate here for lunch today, and the flavors of the food was amazing. Drinks are alright, tasted like a soda instead of alcohol and the service was okay but it’s not because of the lady. She was very sweet and helpful but I think she was the only server working the entire restaurant! That wasn’t right or fair to her but she did the absolute best she could so kudos to her! I was drawn in by the smell of the crawfish boil and that’s what I ordered. They make it to order so the seafood is extremely fresh. Husband got the catfish platter and it was huge and he left not a single fry or hush puppy on the plate (I didn’t even get to taste it so I know it was good). Portions of food are great and reasonably priced. I also had a cup of gumbo and the flavors and spice were phenomenal. Highly recommend.

We had a great experience at this quaint eatery in the French Quarter. We were drawn in by the swamp and bayou platters, which offer a sampling of fares. We ordered and shared both platters after settling in. The bayou platter had red beans and rice, jambalaya, and shrimp and grits. The swamp platter had shrimp creole, blackened alligator, and crawfish etouffee. Everything was seasoned well and full of flavor. The platters were a lot for two people. We also shared a bread pudding, which was hot with a balanced sweetness. Service was friendly and helpful. Prices are fair for the area. I would go back.

I recently dined at the Original French Market Restaurant, renowned for its historic ambiance. My experience was a blend of hits and misses. The seafood boil, featuring shrimp, snow crab, corn, potatoes, and sausage, was the main course of my meal. The corn was a letdown, overly spicy and dried out from prolonged boiling. Similarly, the shrimp was overcooked, and the snow crab lacked freshness. On the other hand, the mac and cheese was average yet comforting, and the grilled salmon was fairly good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The restaurant's age-old charm adds to the dining experience, but some dishes could definitely use improvement.

If you have the time go somewhere else. I have to question the cleanliness of this place. The bathroom was flooded and the floors of the restaurant were sticky to walk on. The waiter we got was efficient and did her job well but this place definitely didn't have southern hospitality. We saw several staff just talking on the phone and not working. The food was mid at most. Portions and taste were not equivalent to the price. The best thing we had was their dipping sauce that came with the blackened alligator. We put it on the chicken poboy and that was decent. None of our dishes were exceptional.

I’m literally stepping out of this place right now 100% disappointed. First time bringing my family to NOLA I was expecting way more for the service at a traditional restaurant in town like The Original French Market Restaurant. Instead, I was surprised by such a poor service, servers sitting on the corner on their phones instead of checking on us, being rejected new plates because “we’d don’t have clean plates”… jeez! That’s a huge red flag for whoever owns this place. The food can be delicious, but terrible service affects the taste of food!

The food and drinks were delicious! The service was on point. It was Sunday evening so they weren’t too busy and Mariah our bartender gave us great recommendations. We had Hurricanes and 1 hit just right. We had the shrimp and crawfish dip as an appetizer and then the swamp platter and crawfish bisque. It’s not a locals hangout so if you’re looking for a local dive this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for good food, great service and a bomb hurricane come on.

Five of us were seated quickly and enjoyed our meals. Highlights were the red beans and rice - so good. I wished I had just ordered them. Nevertheless, three of us had catfish - all done differently but all received thumbs up. The boat of crawfish was a lot for one person! Hush puppies were average (based on the expert knowledge of one of our group). The swamp platter also received a thumbs up. Service was pretty good generally - our server was friendly and helpful.

Great place to eat. Reasonable pricing, great food, and wonderful staff. Our waitress was a delight! A kind employee even went ahead of us to open the door (usually they have one of the double doors locked) to allow my sisters wheel chair to pass through. The only thing to keep in mind upon going in is that the bathroom is upstairs beyond 3 sets of stairs. (But this is just how some buildings are constructed) So if you don't think you can make the climb, use the bathroom before you go! However, I think it's still well worth it

Highly recommend. Some of the best creole food I’ve ever had. The entire restaurant smells fantastic of spices. My gumbo was to die for and my partners crawfish bisque was delightful. Speedy service and good atmosphere. Great air conditioning too, which in the middle of summer, is always a blessing.

We loved the Seafood Alfredo! The sauce, shrimp and fish were amazing! The Seafood & sausage gumbo, fried green tomatoes and hush puppies were also very good. The blackened catfish & red bean & rice were not a favorite. Overall the staff and restaurant were great! Will visit again!

We just finished a long walking tour and was so hungry! I came upon this spot and am sure glad that I did! My 1st time trying green fried tomatoes and baked oysters! Something I would Never try and let me tell you, Very Yummy! The Alligator
Nice spot for drinks and food. We had the garlic and herb Oysters Rockefeller..splendid! And the boudin balls--Hot and delicious. They serve crab broils also which created a strong seasoning smell in the restaurant and it was a little warm
Our visit to this restaurant started out a little shaky, but turned out great. Once the waitress realized we had not been helped, she was right on it. Our table was even a little wobbly...not enough to bother us...but she fixed it for us.
This place has some delicious food!!!!!! Blackened catfish and shrimp boil is yumm O! Swamp plate good too! Service upstairs was non existent had to head downstairs after watching staff sit around for 10+ minutes. We received our water 10
Very mediocre food. Got the charbroiled oysters, a bowl of gumbo, & the crab & shrimp dip….all for $65. I do not recommend the dip because it was spinach heated with shredded cheese & 3 pieces of small shrimp. We liked our waitress - she
I had higher expectations for this restaurant. Needs a refresh badly. Service had a slow start but our server really wanted us to be happy. Husband's Jambalaya was dry so she brought additional sauces. The shrimp ettifay was great. More
The food, live music and just the atmosphere was great! Our waitress Shanei did an outstanding job with our service! Hope to come back again soon and will be asking her!
