Great food and really lovely service. The staff were very accommodating and a really good menu full of variety. There was something for everyone. I was impressed with my toddlers chicken it was cooked really nice, soft with a chargrilled taste he loved it... this was my previous review which was a 5 star. Unfortunately my visit today couldn't be further away from this. It was actually shockingly bad. I was so disappointed as I took my brother, parents and my son for lunch here as I was so impressed the last time. Most of the items were not available such as steak or helloumi chips. The menu was a little different. The food took over 45 minutes to arrive. We told them to bring all the food as it was cooked and not to wait especially as we have a hungry toddler with us. Firstly the glasses provided were filthy. They had dirty marks with pink lipstick stains. The starters came 45minutes after we ordered. When we asked what was going on the girl responded that she hadn't been told to cook the mains which took another 20mins. We ended up buying crisps to try and keep my toddler entered. The starters were decent but the mains were shocking. We wanted chicken fillets with chips. They said they don't do this but we said its on the kids menu , we asked if we could order double portions so it equates to an adult meal. So they said they can do that. We ordered 3 x 2 kids chicken fillets so 6 portions. They only bought two out to which we ending up sharing as apparently they didn't charge us but we never got a receipt so we couldn't check. We ordered two side salads , only one arrived but I couldn't believe my eyes. They served old lettuce one big leaf which was shrivelled up and turned dark brown. My father took this in and asked if the chef would eat this salad if served to them and the waitress said ill bring you a fresh one. My father said no thank you it should have been fresh the first time. The chicken was deep fried and then chargrilled. Some bits were pink and some chewy and slimy with fat. I should have taken a photo of it all but only managed to take a photo of the chicken. I ate one half but the second half was inedible. The chips had black flecks all over it and stunk of stale oil. I didn't want to cause a scene because I was there to have a nice time with my family and to be Frank the staff were not bothered. We didnt finish the mains half of the chicken was inedible the chips stunk of old oil. The lovely service and lady that served us last time was not there. The food quality and cleanliness was not there. We will not be coming back again. It was very embarassing for me and very disappointing.

Went there for a birthday lunch and it's honestly appalling. The table we reserved hadn't been cleaned, and was wobbly, which with a toddler is super fun. The glasses were filthy. One order a steak rare which come back medium/well done. One ordered gammon egg and chips which was so greasy it was sliding around the plate. One ordered a salad with grains, with rocket lettuce and avocado. This came back without any rocket or avocado, very limp lettuce plus chicken, when this person didn't order the chicken as they are a vegetarian. One ordered a chicken and avocado sandwich which barely had any avocado. All of the chips had black flecks which is caused apparently by dirty oil. Charming. When ordering the meal and talking to the barman, I was interrupted by another barstaff looking for a lighter, the person stopped serving me to help them look for one. On top of a 45 minute wait, absolutely had no interest in complaining or sending back food, as we didn't have another hour to spend waiting. There was also no tea or coffee available as the machine had broken. A terrible time was had by all. No a meal to be remembered. Going by the other comments and replies , John please don't worry about leaving a number for me to call you on, we won't be returning.

Phoned ahead to book a table as taking my elderly parents. Fella whose name I wish I'd got was really friendly and helpful. When we arrived he obviously recognised my voice and asked if I booked earlier? I said yes and showed us the table he had reserved for us. He said others are free, so just choose where we preferred. Ordered drinks and sat down. Plenty of choice of drinks. My parents had Amstell and Forsters. Both were really good. You could tell the beer pipes are well kept as drinks clear, fresh and Fizzy. We ordered food and again great service from Gemma who served me this time. Food arrived promptly and was hot, fresh and tasty. My dad is a poor eater ordered fish and chips and he cleared the plate saying it was just lovely. Said the batter was so crisp and light. Mum had lasange, I had jacket potato. Both said they want this as their new being taken out to lunch place to go. So to sum up, great atmosphere, lovely decor, friendly, happy staff, great food, parking on site. Will be back real soon.

I would not recommend this pub to anyone! Super rude and unprofessional staff. We booked a table for lunch today because we wanted to celebrate a special occasion. I was looking forward to it, and I was there with my baby girl and husband. We sat down at our table, and when my husband went to order our food, there was no one there. He was patiently standing at the bar waiting for someone to come over to take his order when he realised staff were looking at him through the kitchen window and laughing. They kept looking at him and taking the piss. What kind of place laughs at their customers and ignores them on purpose?! We are just a couple with a baby, so rude!! After half an hour, a blue-hair girl came out, and my husband asked if we could order food, but she was rude and said she was busy. We didn’t feel welcome, and we took our money elsewhere. Thankfully we ended up at Osteria Due Amici, where we had a great experience.

  • Jennifer Davis

Absolutely the most appalling service. My sandwich was the wrong order when it came & my friend was served the wrong meal 3 times consecutively, despite pointing it out on the menu. It wasn't even busy at the time. I appreciate anyone can make a mistake, but instead of replacing her meal, staff argued about what she originally requested, even swearing at her. Eventually the manager refunded her money when our party wouldn't leave, by throwing it at her and telling us not to come back. Since when is it the customers fault for an incorrect order? If you enjoy a good row with your pint , or being verbally abused, then this is the place to come to. Otherwise I'd recommend saving your money for a pub where customers are appreciated.

Sat down out side - waitress was really nice, ordered drinks and everything was fine. We then ordered food, we made a mistake on he app for the sharing platter, to be fair we asked for it to be changed but was already cooked so we had both.. bit of a mix up but it was fine and worked out ok.. Then we ordered a veggie Curry, 3 Roasts and Chicken burger. The roasts were ok to be honest.. Curry was tasteless - ill stop there.. Chicken burger was 2 lumps of breaded chicken in a bun no sauce, so we asked for Red or Brown sauce, the waitress came back saying there was none (we had 20 packs of mayo though). My daughter left it on the plate and we left.

I am sitting here with my better half enjoying a lovely pint. I have walked past this pub a few times and not ventured in. Today we we t in for a couple of beverages and are totally on awe with the place. The staff know what they are all doing and operate a very efficient bar and service. A lot of pubs lack bar knowledge and how to serve at the bar making sure everything is done in order. This place is a cut above most. I am glad I came in as I noticed they have vegan options on their menu and they also look good. We are planning a return visit soon to try the food and also enjoy the perfect service and good surroundings.

Very disappointing. Waited for 1 1/4 hrs for food. 2 senior two courses (13.98) I main course burger with cheese 10.99. As I was xharged 36.65 I can only assume that 1 appeltise and a cup of tea cost almost £12. Had to chase the food twice. Peas were cold and hard. The burger came out without accompaniment as detailed on menu. Trying to chase staff was very difficult. Asked for the cup of tea that was ordered 3 times: two staff said it was someone else's job. I hr 40 after ordering - and paying we are still waiting for the cuppa. Appaling service

Not a good experience. My friend made a booking on the 27th September for 15 of us for today 18th October. We waited up to one hour to be served our food. My friend ordered a starter and a main meal, they were served together after a one hour wait. This is by far the longest time I have ever had to wait for a meal anywhere. When asked why the meals were taking up to an hour to be served the waitress replied that there was only one chef. When the food did finally arrive it was of very poor quality. I definately will not be going back there. I am niot the only one complaining.

  • Helen Potter

Terrible. The restaurant was dusty and dirty, floor stick dirty and the entrance porch very uneven trip hazard. I had to send the dirty glasses back because of lipstick and stains the next glasses were still dirty I used a napkin to clean then which showed how bad after having brown residue over the napkin. The table was sticky with ground in grime in the cracks. Meal was over cooked, advertised on the menu as pink! they had no horseradish sauce for the roast beef, the cranberry sauce ok but no spoon to serve it. The meal was very poor quality. I wouldn’t go there again!

  • Gillian Goult

It was an awful experience staff were very rude and couldn't get my order correct I asked for salmon fijita and they gave me salmon salad. I said to the waiter is that salmon fajita and he went back to the kitchen and came back with halomi and said that was what I ordered. The barman tried to say I ordered salmon salad and he swore at me and said your not letting me speak. In the end I asked for my money back and she threw the money at me and said don't come back. I've never been to a place with rude staff like that and would never recommend it to anyone.

Dates of visits: 8th and 15th May 2021 Both of the two occasions on which I’ve visited The Windmill were incredibly pleasant, despite the weather conditions on the second visit. The staff on both days were polite and courteous, and rather well informed when it came to answering our questions. Covid procedures were also well followed and enforced as well as reasonably possible. Prices are also standard for the area, which is neither a positive nor a negative in my view. It was certainly a nicer atmosphere than some places I’ve been into in Hornchurch, too.

  • Lilly Hopkins

I came to the windmill yesterday 27th May where I was treated perfectly by a new girl Maya she had a smile on her face was very polite and overall bubbly she gave me my drinks was super friendly and was a pleasure to be served by. Again when I came up for my food Maya served me after having a little issue with a rude group of boys who I even told to stop as they was underage the only Bar lady taking ID. All the other bar staff trying to upset her due to taking ID, but Maya pushed through with a smile will definitely be back again! Amazing thankyou Maya x

A happy bunch of people hang out in this pub so the management are doing a great job in that respect . The prices from what I saw are very competitive although we didn’t eat so can’t offer an opinion on that. I.also remember they had a flood here in the winter in the cellars so a dank odour is present and all doors are open but nothing can be done about that . What can be helped is in the gents some fragrance giving cleaners could do with being put in the urinals just to take the edge off of it in there . Anyway the locals are happy so all is well !

  • Tony G

10 people. All food was great. All service was good & no waiting at bar. Food included chicken wings, lasagne, gammon, burger, chicken wings so a good spectrum & all nice. The reason for 3 stars is state of toilets. 2 buckets under separate urinals filled to top. The floor was ankle deep & I would have thought a massive slip hazard. The girls told us the ladies was horrendous too. It cannot be hygienic to be walking in urine around a restaurant! Update : visited a few times & gotta say the staff are great & quick at serving. Although very busy.

The Windmill used to be known locally as The Bridgehouse Tavern but it got renamed a few years ago when Greene King took it over and called it The Windmill. Probably because there is a windmill near by. Anyway, much has changed since the old days and the pub is quite clean and bright, which is a good thing. The selection of beer is good, especially if you like Greene King and we definitely enjoyed the East Coast IPA, as it was a bit different. If you drive there, you can get your car cleaned next door.

Found this lovely pub 10 mins away from the station, reasonable prices, service was great, beer garden had trees around, away from the road, I have to say the service was friendly and willing to help, the desserts was tastety, melted in your mouth. Would definitely go again. The found was great.

Have viaited several times for lunch and always been more than happy with food and service. Was planning to meet up with a large group of friends last night, so choose The Windmill to meet. We had a fantastic night, we grabbed the seats at the back by the gents loo's. Really comfy and great spot for a large crowd. Really nice atmosphere, easy to get served at the bar by friendly staff. Will definately have our next meet up there. Thanks for a great night, although I am feeling it now. Sue.

  • Dave Cutts

We sat outside and orders on the app. Food arrived after 30 minutes shortly followed by the drinks. They suggested that drinks would be better ordered at the bar, but that defeats using the app and protecting yourself from covid? Why they can't just fix the app I don't know. Lots of outdoor seating, but adjacent to a busy road. If you like carbon monoxide with your burger, you are in luck. Food was OK, service was OK but nothing exceptional and they were not busy!

  • Jayne Capper

Went to this restaurant on Sunday 16th December for a Christmas family get together. Chose it because had previously been to The Royal Oak, Andover. They did an amazing Yorkshire pudding wrap meal. I had been looking forwatd to it for months. Imagine how disappointed I was that this was not on a Sunday Menu!! The service however was very good and we had a lovely time. Please put the Yorkshire wrap on your Sunday menu. I'm sure out will be a hit.

  • Rose Sanger

Staff were lovely and drinks prices good. However standard of drinks not great. Received a pitcher that was half full and the manager questioned the person serving it as to why it's half full but continued to give it to me half full. Also got very confused with our order of 3 drinks 2 pitchers and 1 soft drinks. As a result service was slow. Wouldn't want to go when it's busy. Overall nice pub with beer garden.

  • James Weston

I like this pub on the whole it's a very generic green king pub that sells the same food as all the others. The food is OK nothing spectacular but is cooked well. The beer is nice and staff are decent. However I do occasionally have to send the odd pint of peroni back because of remnants left in the glass from the dishwasher which doesn't look particularly nice and makes the beer go flat immediately.

  • Connor Richardson

We came in last week after not being to the pub for a while and we’re very disappointed. The woman who said she was the new manager was a very rude woman. Lots of things weren’t available on the menu and she told us that’s just whats available. Also when we ordered drinks half of the beers were not available and they didn’t even have any tonic for gin!? We had one drink and left. Never coming back.

  • John Dawson

Great night out doing their pub quiz, which starts at 8pm Tuesday. Proper quiz with a decent quizmaster - unlike some of the amateurish quizzes you find in some pubs. Could have done with a special area for quiz - want always easy to hear questions, but that's just a small point. Overall a good night out with a good range of beer including 3 drinkable real ales. Will go back

  • Janet Butler

They were severely understaffed. I felt really sorry for the bar staff. We ordered a drink on the app. After 50 minutes we enquired where it was. Don't have an app if you're going to ignore it. Come guys another person behind the bar would make it better for everyone. Probably won't be going back.

They didnt honour their booking. We had a table for 3 booked, said it was confirmed, a day before the reservation turns out they never saved our details for the booking. Very disappointed. In response to the reply: we did call to make the booking and we were told over the phone it was confirmed. Our details weren't written down however, so were not the ones at fault here

We had a wake at the windmill and the staff looked after us, took care of the food, eating area, tables etc. It's not our local pub but it had a nice atmosphere, decorated well, served various beers, wines and spirits as well as food, good size car park as well. If in the area again, will definitely pop in for a pint. I recommend this place to others.

Men’s toilets stink water all over floor due to block urinals safety hazard mould on ceiling looks like use are waiting for someone to fall over put in a claim before u do something I’ve spoke with the manager and he is trying to keep on top of the cleanliness but with such a busy pub it is out of his control and needs fixing asap

roast dinner wasn't great. Assuming they used frozen potatoes and yorkshire puddings. Not great value for money. Also my mums pastry on her vegetarian pie was very hard like it had been microwaved for too long. Two of the things we wanted to order wasn't available and this was at 12.15....it had only been open for 15 minutes!!

Lovely pub. Nice pub garden. Car park. Local tube station. Good beer. Nice food. Our fish n chips was half hour late. But staff apologised with a complimentary drink for both of us. Full compliments to one of the bar staff too. Called Sandra. Service and chat very hospitality well earned …

Bad customer service , told them I want my eggs well done , my eggs came sunny side up . So I asked them if I could have my eggs well done , took foreverrrrrrr to cook my well done eggs ! And when I got my plate back they didn’t even apologise for the wait ! Not happy , won’t be coming again

Martin & Sandra with there team provide a very friendly 'local feel' welcome and ambience. The pub is very clean and delivers excellent ales on tap and the food very good. The 'original burger' I have had produced by Terry could have been served in a gourmet restaurant.
