"The best independent bookstore in Seattle nestled in the Ravenna neighborhood and housing Vio's, a cafe that serves a great weekend brunch and fantastic pastries, coffee, and light meals during the week"
"The bookstore was alright, pretty overpriced, but some of the sales are good"
Fantastic neighborhood bookstore. Great things are to be found in this lovely shop. It has the vibe of a bookshop from days gone by. I love roaming the shelves and getting lost in the possibilities. They have great sale/discount book tables, plus used and new. That mix is great for me -- I like having both options, and it's always fun to hunt for that perfect find of a well-kept used book on your list. Also, they seem to give pretty fair prices or trade credits for used books if your looking to sell your stack. The café is awesome, too. Good coffee and good baked goods. Third Place is a great place to spend a rainy Seattle afternoon. Parking lot, plus street parking around the area is not bad. Thanks Third Place!
Third Place Books Ravenna is a classic bookshop. Set in a pleasant Seattle neighborhood, Third Place has an ambiance that exudes both a great emphasis on quality customer service, and a passion for books. The shop is a wonderful setting for browsing titles. Its a great place for children, with a tremendous age-appropriate section guaranteed to delight kids of all ages, and bring smiles to parents' faces. The book keepers do a fantastic job of curating popular new titles, and making certain that there are plenty of all-time favorites to flip through as well. Enjoy your visit and the meal you can get in the adjacent restaurant - Cafe Arta & Pub.
The restaurant in this place should be ashamed. My 90 year old mother paid for 3 $18 lamb kabob dinners to go. Thats $54 PLUS tax tip for a tiny, tiny portion of lamb that didn’t even measure 8 inches across. One pice of pita, some dipping sauce and a greek salad with no dressing! AND we waited an hour for breakfast because they put the order in wrong. We didn’t realize how skimpy the serving size was until we got home and could do nothing about it. Needless to say we had to combine all three for one person and the other 2 got leftovers. They should credit her credit card and not take advantage of older people with very bad eyesight.
The best independent bookstore in Seattle nestled in the Ravenna neighborhood and housing Vio's, a cafe that serves a great weekend brunch and fantastic pastries, coffee, and light meals during the week. This is a place you can spend a couple relaxed hours, find a new or used book and grab a cup of good coffee. There's also a small selection of eclectic gifts and magazines, as well as a nice outdoor seating area and a pub downstairs for an evening aperitif. I've been going to Third Place for years and absolutely love it.
The bookstore was alright, pretty overpriced, but some of the sales are good. Had an issues at the cafe and this old woman caused a huge scene screaming at me for not buying a coffee while sitting there. It felt racist because she did not treat the white male across from where I was sitting down the same way. The signs say to buy an item, but they were a bit unclear. I bought something from the bookstore thinking it was enough, but from what the old white woman screamed, I suppose not. Beware of going in!
Not sure you can call this a used book store? Maybe a used book store for hipsters who want to pretend they don’t have the money for brand new everything. Books on the shelf was maybe 80% of the original price and looked unread. They do “buy back” books but only if they are also unread and fall under the discretion of the employees discretion of whether or not it fits into their niche market. Decent amount of seating. Bathroom is located at the back left of the cafe.
Some people say it's too "intellectually snobby", but it's not. It's just so good (books and cafe and location and clientele) that some people might find it off-putting. Relax! Learn! Read! No problem. The coffee is superb. The books are even more so. And there's a small section of truly extraordinary gifts, tools, accessories and stuff that is curated brilliantly. This is a great place to get a gift for friends and family, whether they're bookish or not!
This is a lovely bookstore and cafe. Unfortunately, the cafe is ungodly expensive ($3.50 for a small glass of milk!). It may be a long while before we can afford to come back. For families with little kids, the (first?) Monday magic show is a lot of fun. They have other shows too (storytelling, music, ...). Parking lot is small and there's no real stage so performances are very cramped. Small outdoor seating area (just a few tables) is a nice addition.
Nice people, cool sweet collection of books. So easy to take this kind of place for granted and drive by all the time. Surprise yourself and drop in. I attended a reading from a group of writers speaking on the subject of siblings. Sounds boring, but what a remarkable collection of adventures and disasters. Vios cafe downstairs was great for a quick retreat to meet some of the authors and find out more over a beer. What's not to like?
Very nice smaller location of Third Place Books. Decent size parking lot for the area, with plenty of street parking as well. Has a very nice outdoor seating area, as well as a good sized cafe in the back of the store. Book selection is somewhat small on some topics, but they've made it incredibly easy to order online and pick up at the store. Very clearly established COVID guidelines, extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff.
I ordered a hard to get book for my Mom's birthday and haven't had a chance to pick it up and mail to her. They graciously have been calling to remind me that it was in the store without canceling my hold. When I called today and asked if they could mail it to her directly, they didn't blink. This level of personal customer service especially during COVID was a gift at the end of a long work day. Thank you!
Hands down best bookstore. Local independent bookstore; lots of book recommendations from knowledgeable staff, well curated selection of books, gifts, all types of genres very well represented. Excellent selection of used books as well. I’ve taken my hoards of gently read books there many times and been well credited. I would say best in the area as far as how much credit you can earn for used books.
This is a great book store. We are spoiled by the Lake Forest Park bookstore north of this one, which is closer to our house and much larger, so it has a much larger selection. This bookstore, however, has a beautiful patio and makes you want to stay. Lfp third place has the commons, which can be noisy, so not always a great place to get cozy with a book. Anyway. Come here. It's a worthwhile place.
Nice little book store. Good selection. I love the mix of new and old books. Thier prices on new books are list and thier used books are slightly discounted. They pay fair prices for used books but are very selective. You won't find great deals here but you are far more likely to find something interesting that neither a chain bookstore nor a typical bargain bin used bookstore would have.
This bookstore has a really good kids section. On Saturday mornings they have kids story time, which is great. They have a number of really good storytellers who frequentl this place. The restaurant, Vios, which is located at the far end of this bookstore serves really good breakfast on the weekends and has a good kids play area. A good package to spend the Saturday mornings with kids
Adorable little bookstore; very peaceful and quiet (unless when it's busy). There's an attached cafe where you can buy a drink and get access to the wifi password and the WiFi cafe. Staff are very sweet, and I love the selection of books. I've found quite a few favorites from staff recommendations! There's also a little parking lot that always has a spot, so parking isn't difficult.
Third place is a Seattle institution. With a mix of new and used books, a helpful and friendly staff, and a lovely cafe, this is in my top 3 favorite seattle bookstores. Also, they have a kids summer reading program, really good sales a few times per year, and a wide selection of genres. They also buy books if you're looking to offload some of your old books. Highly recommended!
The people working here are fantastic. Great reading suggestions, really quality one-on-one help. They walked me around, discussed the books I liked and authors I liked, made the trip really worth it. Very welcoming. There's a coffee shop inside, I think they serve light fare as well. There's a beautiful shaded patio where you can sit/read/snack. Would definitely recommend.
Great local bookstore that I've been going to since I was young. I ordered a book that they didnt have in stock and it was worth the extra wait to support a local business rather than order from amazon. I love the outdoor/natural vibe of the shop and they've got a great patio, not to mention the cafe / restaurant that offers great baked goods, beer, and mediterranean food.
Went for a reading. While waiting for it to start we got coffee and pastry. Good coffee, and their chocolate baklava was out of this world. So, okay, it's a book store WITH a cafe, upstairs, and full-on restaurant/pub downstairs. Upstairs has a seating area set aside for those who choose to take advantage of the cafe food. The whole store smells of books and adventure.
I love bookstores, and Third Place is an especially lovely little place. I have gone a good couple of times, and every time I have enjoyed myself. I took my brother here for his birthday, and he got some legoes. After we got some drinks at the connected cafe, we left and got lost. In any case we had fun. Overall, I definitely recommend this to anyone in the area!
I brought in 20 books to sell and they made me wait an hour and half before offering $9.75 cash or $15 store credit for 5 practically new books. The Uber cost $12, so basically I lost two hours of my life and $2.25 for these guys to take my unwanted books. I would say it's a waste of time to try selling your books here. Goodwill would have been a better option.
If you're looking for a fantastic independent bookstore in north Seattle, go here. Super cute, inviting interior where it's easy to lose hours to browsing books. Great selection and I love how they have new and used right alongside each other. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Also, there is a fun and cozy childrens book area, so bring the kids!
Incredible bookstore. Super helpful staff. Great selection. Includes a coffee shop. The coffee shop is nice. Kinda includes a bar. I very much liked the bar. Vegetarian options available. Well organized. Personal touches. Charming place for basically anything you could possibly want to do. I highly recommend visiting them and giving them your business.
Absolutely in love with this place. I live in Wenatchee, WA. & come to travel with my boyfriend & kids to visit my father who lives in the area. Every time we go It gets better & better. The food, coffee, kids play section, selection of books & most of all the sweet & caring staff members that work at Cafe Arta ❤️ 100% recommend going.
Hadn't been in this building since it was the PCC a million years ago and it is unrecognizable. There is a restaurant in the back! Third Place Books, Ravenna! I live closer the the LFP shop but this might be my favorite local independent bookstore chain. Waldenbooks (do I sound like I've been living in a cave?) it ain't and I'm grateful.
Always a beautiful book shopping experience. Friendly and genuine staff, great Cafe partnership, wonderful location, and great visual atmosphere. I don't know what to say other than that I would give Third Place Ravenna 10/5 stars if I could! I'll be back, and I look forward to another great visit and experience. Thank you!
Was told to leave because I was drinking from my water bottle in the seating area. Not exactly a third place. I've been coming here for over a decade but they've lost my business. Also, the "queer love" section they put up for pride was full of YA pablum and books about gay teenage boys written for straight teenage girls.
I was touched today by the kindness of one of the people working at the checkout area. There was an art book about Andrew Wyeth which suffered the cruelty of someone tearing pages from it. I was so happy when they gave me the book. Thank you. I will take care if it. Great place with compassionate people working there.
Commenting on the Cafe "Artos". Small restaurant as part of Third Place Books. Food was very tasty but service and meal delivery a little slow. My opinion is that they are suffering like all food establishments and are making do with a small staff. Still, food was good. Outside and inside seating available.
This is my neighborhood pre-work hangout spot. I've been going here since it opened and have always loved the bookshop. I love that they buy used books and the vibe is just right for some down time too! Grab that delicious pastry and relax even if you have kiddos as they have a little play are for them too!
Great place to pick up gifts for friends and/or their kids. Wide assortment of children’s books with some variations on old favorites as well as “indestructibles!” Checkingnout can be a bit disorganized, but no problem if you’re not in a rush. The staff are extremely helpful when it’s finally your turn.
I adore this local bookstore and cafe/restaurant. They have consistently good food and service. Everything tastes fresh and homemade. The bookstore is a small but good selection of books and small trinkets and goodies. The downstairs has a rustic lodge vibe and a decent selection of local beers on tap.
Absolutely lovely cozy local bookstore. Called to ask if they had one book (online said 1 copy was in stock), they IMMEDIATELY picked up, found it for me and held it at the front desk while I headed over. Extremely efficient and friendly service and so many tempting gifts and reads inside to browse :)
This is more than a bookstore. There's a cafe, a pub, and such a good staff that this is more of a public service provider. If they don't have it, they can get it pretty quickly for you. Their online presence is pretty good too. I've ordered many titles sent to my local store and put in hold for me.
Lovely little neighborhood independent bookstore. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and the store itself is organized, clean, and cozy. Cute coffee shop/restaurant attached on the main floor, and wonderful pub downstairs -- one of my favorite places to be during the colder months.
This is a great shoppe. I very much enjoyed the children's and the graphic novel sections. I wanted to purchase so many books for my students. However, flying back home with them would have been too much. I plan to visit this lovely bookstore and its cafe again when I return to Seattle.
As bookstores disappear, this is the crown jewel that survives and thrives. Amazing variety, top-notch selection, really helpful staff, beautiful layout. And nice baked goods to munch while reading your purchase. And a really good variety of little gift items, from magnets to mugs!
Great, independent bookstore, selling both used and new books. One of three Third Place stores (the others are in Lake Forest Park, and Seward Park). Has a great cafe inside. It's a place to idle away an insane amount of time looking at books new and old, and browsing staff picks.
This place is Awesome not only can you buy books but when you get done you can go and get some really really good food and good service friendly people they make all the food from scratch and there coffee / cappuccino are to die for they are awesome you should go try it out
I love love love this place! There is not only a great selection of books, but they also have some great community events. The staff is always very friendly and helpful with any questions you might have. And the food at the cafe is yummy! I especially love the falafel wrap.
It's much bigger than it looks from the street. It has a cafe inside where you can order small meals like sandwiches and beef kabobs. They have seating and tables outside for the few sunny days we get. Lol. The people are really nice and the feel of the place is positive.
Third Place Books is amazing! They’ve got an incredibly helpful staff, a huge selection of books, and an all-around great vibe. I frequently will order over phone and walk over to pick up my books. I can’t suggest enough you get your books from here over anywhere else.
My favorite Seattle bookstore. Great selection of new (and some used) books! I always find something to spend money on here—books for myself, presents for friends, fun cards, coffee. Does get a bit noisy during lunch hours with the cafe inside but nothing too crazy.
Third place has been a touchstone throughout the pandemic. Now we're able to come in and dawdle, which is absolutely delightful. The staff are incredibly helpful and thoughtful. And the books can't be beat. We discover new adventures every time we visit. Thank you!
By far the best bookstore in the Puget Sound. The Kenmore has more options but this location has an amazing restaurant and a downstairs pub which is a must visit. The staff is helpful and always friendly. I have purchased hundreds of books from this place!
Easy access, good parking, but limited menu that is a bit overpriced. That said, the avgolemono is delicious. Smallish bowl for $7.00 and comes with 2 very small slices of baguette. Cost should have been about $5.50. Outdoor summer seating will be nice.
A nice bookstore, curated selection of new and used. High quality used only. The curated selection was nice, spent most of my time in sci-fi/fantasy and found everything I wanted. They have a cafe, but I didn't stay. Will come back, for sure.
Nicely done Greek/Mediterranean food with a good play area for young children. Unfortunately it's popularity has outstripped it's capacity. Clearly Seattle needs more places that are kid friendly with good food and a comfortable atmosphere.
I love third place books because there is everything from books to tarot cards to pens and everything in between another reason why I love third place books is because it's a small business and I love supporting small businesses. So if you
Love this shop in every way possible. From the numerous selections of literature, snappy book orders that appear like magic, to the every," one is welcome" kind of feel. I will be back again and again, my whole family loves the experience.
Except if you are interested in selling books, highly doubtful and dissatisfied. Cheap and not very honest. I won't sell there again. But the store, food and downstairs beer area is why they rate 3 stars. Go there to buy, bring your kids,
They have a great selection of books most with reasonable prices and a fair amount of user books too. The only really improvement is the cafe/restaurant area is a little confusing as there is a please wait to be seated sign before you get
Never been exploring in the bookstore part... has a cool Internet Cafe part, and pub downstairs. Restaurant/cafe prices are all over the place. Some items are reasonably priced ($10 gyro sandwich, and coffee is ok), while others are over
Cozy, friendly staff, great assortment of used and new mingled together. Donation desk means they keep stock rotating. Love that they feature local authors both on the shelves and at their events. Plus, they have food and coffee.
Very quiet and calming place to pick out books and have a little bite. They have very friendly staff, I definitely recommend going. They have a very large selection of books and will most likely have what your looking for!
very nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly, HOWEVER the prices are extremely high. Like used books around $15-20 and new books around $30. If price doesn't matter to you, it a nice store, but I can't afford that much
Too small a location to have a very good collection of books. I appreciate the review cards on the shelves written by staff. The young adult section is really well done. I can't stand the attached restaurant or wine bar.
My favorite bookstore! Great selection of new and used books. Love the top picks shelf and the selection of art books. The staff are helpful and respectful. You can also preorder books to pick up in store which is handy.
Love this long time Ravenna cornerstone business. Easy to order on line, can pick up order at store, saves shipping costs, packaging. Now open for browsing. Very clean with supplies available for customer hand cleaning.
Such a great book store with a huge selection of books including ones you wouldn’t find elsewhere. The cafe inside is nice and surprisingly spacious. I could honestly spend an afternoon here, I love the atmosphere.
I love this little corner book store and cafe. It is a breath of fresh air and very relaxing as soon as you open the doors. Love the flow of books and the delicious food at the cafe. It is a neighborhood mainstay!
Good variety of brunch items on the menu. Delicious and reasonably priced bakery goods. Huge selection of books used and new. Street and parking lot for your vehicle and best of all friendly and helpful staff.
The ambiance is calm and welcoming. They have a great selection of books, and their staff are charismatic. Cafe Arta is also a wonderful place to visit (inside the location) for a good cup of coffee & brunch!
A good place to chill and study. A wide selection of books with a nice staff to match it. One time though I tried selling like 4 books and they only gave me 7 dollars in return. Still 5 stars though.
This is my favorite book store. They have a fantastic number and variety of books. It is the epitome of a book store. One can spend the whole morning or afternoon browsing. A book lovers delight.
Cozy neighborhood book store! Mostly new titles, with some used books & out of print treasures mixed in. Regular events include author visits, book clubs, and more. Oh, and there‘s a cafe too!
Awesome staff who are super friendly and helpful! Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Coffee shop doesn't open till 11, but they allow you to sit out on the patio with your own coffee and food!
The bookstore is worthy by itself! Their cafe in the back is a hidden neighborhood gem everyone should know about but doesn't. Limited menu but everything is good. Greek street food favorites.
Wonderful book store. Very large.a great selection of books new and used and cards. Love the smell of a real paper back book. I hope they are supported. Nothing like the neighborhood store.
Great spot. Love the fries, the beer, the popcorn, the London Fogs and the Hot Chocolate. The books and atmosphere are great too. This is also my favorite place to get reading glasses.
Relaxing fairly large independent bookstore that has a better selection than others in the area. Good seating. Recommendations on all the shelves. Plus there's parking! Cool place.
Great spot for community events, good food, and books books books books! Both new and used, friendly staff. Baked goods and coffee in the am. This locally owned place has it all
Some of the best food and drink around!! Great place to work and a great place to not work. Staff is v friendly, each menu item is delicious. Immediately became a regular spot.
Bookstore staff kind of rude. Perhaps I didn't have the right "white person who is rich but pretends to be a normal person" vibe that they usually see. LFP is quite different.
Awesome cute book store with a huge selection. Also highly recommend the cafe at the back, Vios, for a delicious breakfast. Loved the Greek french toast. Lovely scones, too!
Nice place with coffee shop & very kind and helpful clerks. A lot of books are well codified according to new books and used books. Plus, you can sell your used books here.
Nice place and peaceful. The staff are very friendly. There are a lot of new and used books with various kinds. The café in the bookstore is a good idea to work and study.
Came to check out the coffee shop and was wow-ed by the book store. Ended up getting a book to go with my coffee. Also they will buy used books from you, how cool is that?
What a beautiful space! Large bookstore with great finds and a big cafe, coffee shop and outdoor patio. I will absolutely be coming back to this neighborhood gem!
Favorite bookstore in all of Seattle. This staff is super nice and helpful. If you can't find a book, they will order it for you. Support local small business!
Smaller than their Lake Forest Park location, but wonderful all the same. Friendly staff, great natural light, and a curated selection. Parking is easy.
Decent selection, nice ambiance, decent masking while we were there. Has a nice little coffee shop with vegan offerings, but they were out of lemon tea.
Thrid place and the Cafe were amazing! My friends and I will definitely be coming back, and our waitress Kaitlyn was so sweet. Great food too (:
Great selection and it's really nice to have a local book store. Prices for new books are on the high side, but used books here are reasonable.
Cute book shop with new and used titles. I particularly love the staff recommendations and local author highlights. Cool cafe as well!
The pub entrance around the corner is like a speakeasy. Cozy space with great food. We sat and chatted for hours, never felt rushed.
Smaller than their flagship store in Lake Forest Park, this store still has a lot going for it including the cafe in the back.
Great selection of books. I like how many reviews there are of books in every section. They also mark books by local authors.
Great place for a coffee And great place if you love books. Love the fact that you find used books in-between the new ones
My go to place for buying picture books as gifts and for my classroom. Greatly appreciate their teacher discount!
HUGE selection and helpful “staff picks” notes throughout. Grateful for the outdoor seating and cafe too!
Fantastic book story! Amazing coffee shop and bar that I have not yet been too. Cant wait to come back.
Love book shops! Love staff recommendations! Love local! This was a bit messy and disorganized though.
This bookstore was very charming and cute. The staff was helpful in finding what I was looking for.
Great selection, super friendly and helpful staff. Very inviting space. Can't wait to go back.
Fantastic bookstore with a restaurant and pub in the back. Booksellers are always helpful!
I've loved TPB my whole life and going back recently I can confirm it is still magical!
This is one of my favorite bookstores in the city. Phenomenal selection, amazing staff.
Great, helpful staff. Having the Cafe on the same floor is genius. Plan to return.
