Despicable experience. Tried being flexible, had consumer affairs involved, even threatening VCAT and still had unfixed problems. Whilst I know they work for the landlords and not the tenants, multiple urgent repairs remained weeks after reporting them. I had broken floorboards, rotting holes in the floor, rain leaking in - all ignored by Thompson for around a year rather than the allowed 2 weeks. I tried to work with them to receive compensation after leaving. They counter offered a lower amount citing "because we didn't increase your rent when we renewed your lease" as if they were doing me a favour. The house I was renting went back on the market pretty quickly so I'm not sure that the rain leakage has been fixed for the next tenant, not to mention any checks for electrical damage, mould etc caused by the amount of time the laundry and bathroom flooded. As a renter you always expect a hassle when it comes to agents and landlords, but this was pure negligence. I ended up in hospital after falling through a broken floorboard they didn't fix. I would be surprised if no other tenants have been injured or become ill in one of their barely habitable properties. Oh and a real kicker - they didn't have any bond under my name and had to track down previous tenants in order to return it to me. Surely having the proper documentation is the first thing you learn in real estate school?

I have a number of properties overseas and would be absolutely appalled if my tenants were treated the way John Charters and Kate Stafford have treated me. I have rented in Australia for over 7 years and have to say this is the WORST estate agency I’ve ever encountered! From the Director through to the Property Manager who are rude and unprofessional. I have had tradesmen enter my courtyard without my knowledge or permission. Tradesman stand at my front door looking into my property. No post boxes for the first 6 weeks. Falling down fences. Security gates that either don’t lock or don’t open. Cables dangled across my back door to the courtyard. I’ve received obnoxious phone calls from the Property Manager. Left with no fridge for over 2 weeks. Trees being cut down at the entrance to the property blocking access through and from the block. The list goes on... STAY AWAY FROM 7 Raglan Street, St. Kilda East and Thomson Real Estate.

Was submitting the application for 6/30 Westbury st. During the application process, we made dozens of calls but they only picked up twice. When we asked about our application progress, they always responded with "we will let you know and get back to you". We had to wait days or even weeks for a response. None of our emails were looked at, either that or they didn't respond to us. The agent we talked to made it sound like we basically had the property and even said they just needed some final steps to get the place ready for us. We got more anxious as we waited for their response as we had prepared to move and just one day before our move in date, when we called to ask what was going on, they responded with "...I forgot to tell you, but your application was unsuccessful...". I have never experienced this level of uneffective communication and customer service before.

Great until COVID 19. Now very aggressive and rude. The relationship with Lily (My property manager) has become very toxic. I have had to go to consumer affairs to help sort things out. She refused to let me apply for the government rent assist grant in the middle of corona. Scaffolding was put up around my building so it was impossible to take furniture out my front door. This was over the time I was moving out, and Lily Tayler told me I had to keep paying rent if I could not get my stuff out of the building. She was keeping my furniture hostage. The scaffolding was obstructing my door to the extent that I kept hitting my head on it. She did nothing about it until worksafe got involved. Now things have been moved but the new lockdown means I am still stuck in there. I've had an awful time here. Avoid if you can.

Thank you for ruining what is probably my only time off this year. They place travelers inside my block of flats who love to play EDM for the better part of everyday, evening & night (going past 1:30am). Most blocks I've lived in have had bans on placing travelers in units, I wonder why? Most travelers like to party and they don't know and or care about local laws and don't give a rats about their neighbors. I learned this 10 years ago, and I'm not even in real estate. This news should be absolutely fantastic news to owners wishing for Thomson to let their property. What owner wouldn't want a pack of party animals living in their investment, I mean really what could go wrong? Thanks for ruining my holidays, being so very unhelpful and wiping your hands of your mistake.

Hi I rented a 1 bed apartment for nearly 2 years in Building 22 Brixton Rise Glen Iris rented by Thompson Real Estate. I really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere in this location. Even the neighbors were really nice to me. Emma Watkinson joined as the property manager half way through my rental experience but since the day she joined she has been very helpful and a caring agent. She's really good in keeping communication and she arranged inspections as due. She too timely action on the maintenance requirements to keep the tenants happy. As I moved to my own house I wish Thompson Real Estate, The Team and Emma all the very best!!

We rented a 2 bedroom unit through thomson and Cheryl was our property agent. I’d have to say I found her and the agency extremely professional, and always responsive. During our stay we came across few minor issue - we had power outage once and had to call electrician to fix the main fuse, they provided all the emergency contact and electrician arrived in our property in 40 mins and fixed it next day - we also noticed hot water issue, again I found her and owner super cooperative and they got it fixed within a week And at last we Thomson and her managed everything smoothly from starting til ending if the lease.

Very late response from cheryl.everytime we use to email her.we get a reply after a week and not a clear reply so we email again and wait again ..terrible When leaving the property we got charged half a month rent for not returning the key which we was waiting for her to reply for end pf lease and she never replied and we email again and she told us that they dont have the keys so they will charge us. Stay away from this agent. They are the worst agency that I have encountered ever! They are unprofessional and would rent you with the property with potential problems. When you report the problems to them, they will not take your seriously until you told them you have contacted Consumer Affairs and lawyers for help. I am very disappointed in their services.

I was interested to rent one of the property he had for lease and he just discriminate my job. Discrimination about what people do for live is worse than discrimination about race. Don't answer phone calls or emails from tenants, or previous tenants. Hold onto bonds for longer than allowed and then have the ABN hidden so you can't get them to VCAT easily. Typically arrogant and treat tenants poorly, but guess what? If you don't have tenants you don't have landlords and we were dealing with the director.

The Easystay studio apartment I stayed with Thomson for 3 years due its great location and services they provided especially to name the real agent Kerry. She has helped and taken any concern with utmost importance. They are easy to deal with and had never put any pressure of any sort during my stay. Highly recommended !!!

Rented a property for 6 months through this agency. Dealing with Cheryl the property manager was an absolute nightmare. She was unprofessional and withheld our bond after a lengthy battle trying to vacate the property with mould issues and no access to hot water for over a month.

Wouldn't recommend using their property management agents at all. Heard from a friend who was a tenant that they didn't even do inspections but made the tenant do their own inspections! Disgusting and I feel sorry for the owner paying them for that service.

Kerry is a wonderful person, always available, considerate and extremely diligent. If ever there was a problem, she would sort it out and always with a cheery smile. She is a real gem in this unpredictable industry and times.

They don't reply on emails for weeks and charge you for the delay. Its a hassle being a tenant with them. Also, they change the clauses of the contract at the last minute and negotiate on the rent after verbal agreement.
