I travelled from Sydney, staying at the Tonsley hotel for 3 nights to attend a close mates funeral. The wake was held at the Tonsley with about 120 people. The food was great, staff were great, room was great. The stay was blemished by the following situations. Number 1. On the first morning I was approached by a homeless aboriginal man outside of my room. He asked if he could use the shower in my room. The answer from me was "absolutely not". He then explained that on occasions he is able to enter the unlocked rooms after guest's checkout to shower and have a coffee before housekeeping arrive. This is surely a security issue Number 2. The walkway outside the rooms has nearly 10 Post mounted ashtrays. The smell of smoke entering the rooms in the early morning and evening was annoying Number 3. The hotel management allowed some 20 patrons to wear T-Shirts that were printed with large letters saying "MORNING C_NTS" (edited spelling) I was concerned at the number of children and other patrons that were exposed to this violation of the dress codes. I have several photos of these people wearing these T-Shirts alongside staff with nothing being said. Very concerning. I will forward these photos to the authorities for investigation. Number 4. At approx 10pm I was asked by the Manager to leave the poker machine room. I asked if I had done anything wrong towards staff or guest's. He stated that "I had done nothing wrong at all" I then asked for the police to attend. The situation was explained to the 2 police officers, and again the manager said I had done nothing wrong . The police explained that under the Gaming RSA laws SA they must support the venue, and I would be banned from the venue for 24 hours. When outside the 2 police offers stated to me that they do not understand why I was asked to leave and that it was questionable the staff behaviour. I have requested the police report. Maybe I had won tò many jackpots, and not a regular patron. In conclusion, I do not recommend the Tonsley Hotel to anyone. And I will ensure this feedback review is widely spread. I do look forward to a response, but I don't expect one.

Step into this charming pub and be transported to a world where live music dances through the air, tantalizing your senses. The atmosphere is electric, buzzing with the rhythm of talented musicians who transform ordinary evenings into extraordinary experiences. But that's not all this hidden gem has to offer. Prepare to feast on delectable meals that will make your taste buds sing with joy. From succulent steaks to mouthwatering pasta dishes, every bite is a culinary masterpiece that leaves you craving for more. For those seeking a touch of excitement, venture into their intimate gaming room. While it may be smallish, it's brimming with anticipation and the promise of fortunes waiting to be won. Admittedly, Lady Luck hasn't graced me with a jackpot just yet, but the thrill of the game keeps me coming back for more. Speaking of gaming, the machines here are more than just decent. They are the gateways to endless entertainment and possibilities. With a vast selection to choose from, you'll find yourself lost in a whirlwind of spinning reels and flashing lights, eagerly hoping for that serendipitous moment of triumph. So, whether you're a music enthusiast, a food lover, or an aspiring jackpot winner, this pub has something to captivate your heart and soul. Lose yourself in the melodies, indulge in the flavors, and chase your dreams amidst the buzzing energy that permeates every corner.

I stayed here a few nights to do a course so i tried nearly everything on the menu, it was a bit hit and miss, the breakfast was good especially the avo on toast, the big breakfast was terrible, the potato hash was inedible it tasted like flour I didn’t eat it. The best thing I tried on the menu was the roast chicken with sweet potato mash. The service was also hit and miss, there was one girl serving us who was really rude and looked like she didn’t want to be there, our course went for 4 days and she served us lunch and everyone at the table had complained about her attitude then the next day someone must have said something to her because she actually acknowledged us and was nice. The room was nice and clean and spacious. All in all I had a good experience and the food was good for a pub feed.

I wanted the Chicken Schnitty but I wanted vegies instead of salad. They were not willing to swap out but happy to charge me more to get a side of vegies. So I decided to get the roast of the day which was lamb (my favourite). The plate came out and presentation looked good. I put the lamb to one side as I like to save the best for last. The vegetables were minimal but nice. Then I went to the lamb. So disappointed. The lamb was incredibly tough. So tough that I'm pretty sure it was from the lunch time stock. I went with friends to experience the Tonsley before it gets demolished. I think I blew my $50 tonight. Might stick to the regional pubs that still have pride in what they dish out to their customers.

I had been to the Tonsley a couple of times years ago and wasn't impressed but decided to give it another try largely based on more recent reviews and the menu and wasn't disappointed. A nice, spacious dining area, polite staff and meals were served fairly quick especially considering how busy they were. Best of all our meals were fantastic. My son ordered the scotch fillet steak and commented that it was the best steak he'd ever had. It looked so tender and juicy and was cooked perfectly medium-rare. I had the pork cutlet which was lovely and tender with the Guiness sticky glaze a perfect accompaniment. Will be happy to return again in the near future.

We stayed at The Tonsley for 3 nights because it was centrally located to where we wanted to be. We weren't disappointed, the staff were lovely and very accommodating. The room was great and really clean, with I'm sure original cornices and ceiling rose with chandelier. The only downside for me was the food, the nachoes were terrible, I ordered soft poached eggs for breakfast and they were so rock hard I couldn't eat them. I did give feedback on both but don't think it was passed on. To be fair my family thought the food was nice.

Worst scotch fillet I have ever ordered, tough, grissly and no flavour for $37 bucks. Chips and the bread roll were outstanding. Staff leave you waiting at the service bar whilst they finish their personal conversation and walk past your finished plate several times. Manager needs a 101 in hospitality and train the staff accordingly. Very average and will not bother returning here. Can you rate zero?

The family room was a great size for 3-4 people with comfy warm beds. We tried to get a table on Saturday night, but the customer service person was rude, so we didn't stay to try the meal. However, the next morning, the customer service person was lovely. The breakfast was fantastic. It's a great place to stay.

Motel room was old but clean. Haven't seen a window type, manual control air-conditioning for a long time. It was very noisy but warm the room quickly. Good breakfast and coffee with reasonable price. Comfortable bed and quiet room (may be due to the noisy AC).

I ordered the karate chicken salad. The chicken unfortunately was overcooked. Atmosphere is dull. Could perhaps have some background music playing and turn the lighting up a tad. Fantastic drinks menu.

Pity the place is shutting down for demolition around the 3rd of December. Good meal and carpeted, so good for those hard of hearing.

A really nice place to eat, very casual and relaxing. Great place to bring young children to for lunch, thoroughly enjoyed. Very sad to hear will be getting torn down to make way for new road....would rather the pub stayed.

  • Alex Alechna

The place seems nice, but be careful of the demo work next door. I had seen guys in plastic Hazmat overalls moving in the foundations. That only means take care. Maybe something toxic was buried there years ago.

A lovely place for a meal, but be Quick as it's closing down due to south expansion,I think they are rebuilding a new one.
