I SOOOOO WISH I COULD GIVE THEM 10 STARS, BUT... FEDEX AND TOVALA CAN'T GET THEIR STUFF TOGETHER, AND ACTUALLY "DELIVER" THE FOOD. The food is absolutely delicious. The flavor profiles rival that of high-end restaurants without a doubt. Even the humble chicken breast is elevated with the Tovala oven's unique cooking process(es), which fluctuate per meal...switching among baking, broiling and steaming. Chicken, pork and fish are cooked perfectly every time. The concept is incredible -- it truly is as easy as scanning. Massive time-saver, fun to do, and zero waste in the kitchen...so many pluses. HOWEVER, THE INCONSISTENT SHIPPING WITH FEDEX GIVES TOVALA -10 STARS! OUT OF A TOTAL OF 6 WEEKS OF FOOD THAT HAD BEEN ORDERED AND PAID FOR, I HAVE RECEIVED A TOTAL OF 2! FOUR OF MY SIX SHIPMENTS WERE EITHER LATE (FIRST TWO); DAMAGED AND NEVER DELIVERED (WEEK BEFORE LAST); OR SIMPLY NOT DELIVERED FOR UNKNOWN REASONS (ACCORDING TO FEDEX). So, in other words, I have not received 2/3 of the meals I carefully chose and paid for. Tovala was very sorry, and refunded my money; however, I am still left without food, and then needing to plan grocery shopping and cooking. I was extremely understanding and patient the first three times. I even switched my delivery day from Friday to Wednesday, (falsely) thinking it would be more likely to be delivered on time. However, I couldn't be more disappointed. My first Wednesday delivery day came and went..with that all-too-familiar-feeling that someone was awry. Found out the next day that the box and food had somehow been damaged and could not be fulfilled. Now, six weeks in...and after checking FeEx's website yesterday, when it seemed all was well... I see a big, red exclamation point on my delivery, and a note saying "POSSIBLE DELAY." I had not received a text notification about the package's whereabouts since yesterday at 5pm, and it's now the next day at 9:40pm...so what happened between Houston and Schertz, TX? Apparently, not even FedEx knows. So, I'm still within my 100 day window, and will be returning.... I'm very, very disappointed. I really would prefer to eat Tovala food than go out to eat, but now, sadly, that just isn't possible, thanks to some faulty shipping issues. I have tried almost every other meal box company, and have "NEVER" had shipping issues like this. Everything from Hello Fresh to Blue Apron and Freshly...and always received everything on time and in perfect condition. I know other people (who I actually referred to Tovala), who have had a problem here and there, but nothing like mine. So, BUYER BEWARE...GOOD LUCK IF YOU TRY THEM. TOVALA AND FEDEX...GREAT IDEA IF NOT SO POORLY EXECUTED.
Maybe the hype was too much for me, or maybe I expected too much. Either way, I cant say Im impressed and at $11/meal, it tends to be quite expensive. Replacing takeout? Not on its best day. Shipping/Packing (5/5): Relatively easy and painless. I dont live far from Chicago, so if thats where the warehouse is, that may very well be why. YMMV on this as other who live further have noted different experience. The packing was done well with cold packs and insulation, all from recyclable materials if my memory serves. Price (2/5): At $11/meal with little option for discounts, and an oven that may cost you up to $300, this meal service can get quite pricey, and in my opinion, relative to the meal size and quality, its just not enough for $11 meal. Meal Quality (3/5): The food doesnt taste bad by any means, but the portion sizes are small, and to call it better than takeout is an Olympic leap. If, somehow, this is better than your takeout options, you should reassess where youre going for takeout. Time (5/5): For freshly cooked food, I dont think it gets much easier than this considering the variety of meals. Fresh meat and vegetables is nice, and the longest cook time Ive seen so far is about 20 mins. The average time is probably around 15 mins. The average prep is easily under 5 mins. Overall its not a bad option, good for time, but expensive. Definitely not replacing take out. Ever. The best thing about it, in my opinion, is that its something fresh, sitting in your fridge, that you can make quickly.
The best meal delivery service we’ve tried! We’ve been subscribing for about 2 years now and it’s been an absolute lifesaver - especially during the Pandemic. Fresh food that you cook in their special oven, huge menu that rotates with a lot of variety and everything cooks under 20 mins. You can’t beat the convenience. Early on they had mostly chicken and vegetarian (and don’t get me wrong - it’s the juiciest chicken you can make) but have been steadily adding additional options - premium steak, fish, sandwiches etc. The best thing is really the fresh preparation - every other delivery service is precooked and you heat in the microwave - have you tried reheating medium-rare steak or grilled chicken? Yeah you can never beat freshly prepared. Customer service through the app is great - we had some issues with deliveries getting delayed (not their fault) and they have always refunded us promptly. You have a lot of flexibility to pause/skip/adjust number of meals etc in the app. And last but not least - you can use the oven to steam cook / reheat / bake etc your own food. Really can’t say enough good things - fantastic service through and through!
The customer experience has completely gone down the drain. I normally order 4 meals a week, exactly what can fit in my refrigerator. Lately though on select items (often the meals I want) they are forcing you to order TWO of them and marketing is as a savings (but they label it as a single meal). They don’t even give you the chance to order just one. So now if I want to get the meal I want I have to order two and throw one out because of being forced to overfill my fridge. This is a horrible experience because that food could go to someone hungry and it is also harming the environment with waste. Tovala needs to immediately let us pick if we want a single serving of a meal or choose the double meal option with savings. Now I have to order a 3 meal delivery that really is 5 with the two forced double orders and pay shipping which is completely unfair and unreasonable and a horrible experience. And then throw away a meal because I have no space to freeze it, which is their excuse they give you. I will be pausing all orders until this forced double meal ordering experience is changed.
Our family got Tovala shortly after our second son was born. Needed something to help with the hectic schedule of life. It turns out that Tovala was not a good fit for our situation. My wife is a vegetarian and Tovala, at the time, was very limited in their options on that front. However, this was several years ago, and I have heard that many improvements have been made on this front. In addition, Tovala doesn’t really work well for little tykes, which, I’m sure they will admit, is not their target audience. In the end, we had to cancel due to the fact we were not getting what we needed out of the somewhat pricey meals. Tovala may certainly make a return once our littles get a bit older, as I did enjoy many very tasty meals. The growing vegetarian and fish options also help! My wife and I wish Tovala (with the improved vegetarian and fish options) was around when we were a childless couple, as the convenience can’t be beat. It’s a good change of pace from going out, and a fantastic meal when you are exhausted at the end of a day and just do not want to “cook.”
I used it when i moved out on my own and had to work alot, it was amazing. Foods were definitely different but I could change the sides. Most of the time the food was good but I did wish they would add fun/simple options . I came back to it meal plan needing a great tasting easy option for lunch and thier is somehow even fewer options to choose from and 3 weeks in and only a couple of meals had the option to change the side. They seem to specifically stay with vegetarian or chicken options . I will see a salmon and steak(for extra sometimes) but none of it is comfort foods. Would like my husband to try it but he is too picky so already they lose a good amount of people . I am great with trying something new if it is good but i wish they bring in some simple recipes. Paying 80 a week i really hate being boxed in with my food options and not ever fully knowing if i am going to like my food when it comes
I loved Tovala but the shipping is absolutely beyond atrocious! The food is great and the ease of cooking with a Tovala has been wonderful. They use FedEx for their shipping and FedEx quite frankly doesn’t care if they get it to you or not so when you are doing your meal planning and you’re planning on using Tovala is part of that you might as well just scrap it and throw your meal planning right out the window and go out to eat. FedEx delivers anywhere from 2 to 7 days late than most of the time it goes straight to the trashcan. This has been absolutely horrible and there’s nothing they can do about it they keep saying the only thing they can do is use FedEx because no one else can do it I get other food boxes and have no issues I don’t understand why they can’t make a change.
I was excited to try this as it seems like a better option than my freshly meals. The oven arrived today, set it up, and start to run the initial cleaning process, and receive an error. I tried unplugging and trying the cleaning process a few times with no luck. I contacted support and they told me to try try again and it completed the preheat process but when I set it to bake for 20 minutes it returned the same error code even after multiple attempts. The support person suggested to exchange the oven which would take 3-5 business days. I asked if it would arrive before my meals were delivered and they told me I could freeze them or they could send instructions to cook them in my regular oven. Returning the oven for a refund and cancelled my meal delivery service.
These meals have really made a difference. I'm a terrible cook and there never seems to be enough time to meal prep nowadays with the busy schedules. There have been a few minor issues but over all we are happy with the kits. I think ive only had one meal i wasnt happy with flavor wise the last few months. Everything else has been great. Definitely recommend for the busy body or the lazy body. Do watch out for the sodium though. Some meals are pretty high in that aspect. I wouldnt recommend more than 1 of these meals in a day due to the sodium levels.
Smart oven is great, but meals are awful. To salty and their "neutral marinade" gets really dull and then gross. I have had meals not delivered twice (one time they claimed it was in my 3" high mailbox and my neighbor found it on the side of the road a mile away just dumped, today it is in my nonexistent mailroom). When this happens you have to wait 2 days, contact them back, and then you only receive a store credit (not a refund). If a company chooses to use an unreliable shipping company, then they should refund the credit card used.
I had the subscription for about 6 months and I really enjoyed the food. Enough recipes to keep it interesting and definitely a time saver. What made me cancel is the size of the portions. I’m 130lbs, so don’t eat that much. But the portions are so small that I would always be hungry after and would need to eat something else. Defeating the whole purpose. I don’t understand why the protein portions are so little, the chicken breasts are about 1/3 of a normal breast. Hope this improves.
Meals are easy to fix but the quality and taste is fair at most. Difficult and draining to deal with customer support attempting to fix delivery and commitment issues. After spending a lot of $ I returned the oven because I don't want to stress over lack of decent customer support. I even sent email to customer support and just received message there is temporary problem delivering my message to support @tovola (not surprised). I would not recommend this product at this time.
Update: Shipping issues not resolved, but I am still being billed. My first shipment showed up after 5 days in transit. It was wet, smelly and generally nasty. I let customer service know and they told me to just throw it out and wait for next weeks order. I kind of expected to ship me something asap as a replacement. Instead I have a week to remember this nasty box of trash that was sent to my home.
Really like the food, when it can get to our west-coast location in a short enough amount of time. Since May 2021, though, we've been getting shipments fully with fully thawed and wet packaging, which means the food is useless. They have refunded us every single time for the packages when this occurs, but since this has happened 9 out of 10 times now we are probably just bailing on the company.
I'm a big fan of Tovala. I care about eating well but I don't enjoy cooking and I like that Tovala's meals are fresh and require practically no work to cook. There is a good variety between healthy and more hearty food options which keeps me interested in the weekly meals and I will definitely keep using them.
Just to many things to even try to explain, the one that makes me the most angry is the company taking it upon itself to order food I didn't approve and half of it I don't eat and having it delivered to rot outside of my house because I am put of the country another two weeks. Just so fed up with it all.
I’ve request to return the oven and 3 times they keep asking for the same info I’ve sent over but won’t process a return/refund. The food was delivered 3 times all thawed out and warm. 1 box broke open when I picked it up from all of the moisture from the food thawing out. Don’t wait your time or money.
Im a bartender and work until 3am so enjoying a meal after work is brutal. Saw a commercial with the trial and gave it a shot?? Couldn't be happier, foods absolutely fantastic, menu keeps expanding and ive honestly lost almost 20pds just from not eating bad late. Highly recommend for someone on the go
Complete rip off. You may as well just order out. Even the tv ad shows a lady in her kitchen with TWO commercial stoves but she's ordering premade food to cook in a wifi connected cheap toaster oven. That's all that this is. $20 thousand dollar kitchen and she's using tovala? I highly doubt that
Wish each meal was maybe $1.50 less, but otherwise, I love Tovala! The meals are consistently delicious and creative! The meat is near impossible to dry out, it's sooooo juicy and nicely marinated. I love being able to eat a well portioned, easy to prepare meal each day after work. :)
I’m always working night shifts and never want to cook or stop anywhere after work. This has been my new best friend!! Quick, easy and I feel like i’m eating a healthier option for food than stopping somewhere quick after work. 10/10 recommended for sure.
Absolutely life changing. Fresh, never frozen meals delivered weekly largely eliminating grocery shopping, prep, cooking and clean-up. Healthy options available. Everything cooks in 20 minutes or less. Highly recommend!!
I've been getting Tovala meals for several years now. The convenience and quality of meals are fantastic. My teenage son also likes using the Tovala to make their suggested recipes that you can find on their app.
I don't like the fact that I can't just cancel and pick up when I want to, once you purchase the oven, you'll get billed for the rest of your life, if you forget to skip the meals, I don't like that
I really like it. Perfect for my two boys who can make their own healthy lunch now on remote learning days. I don’t have to waste money and the hassle of Door dash for them. The food is good too!
I bought the unit and tried the meals for a while. They were tasteless and only slightly better than a microwave dinner. Now I simply use it as a very expensive toaster oven.
I found these meals to be not only amazing but always just enough and I have never been let down by any of the meals. Sooooo good. Love the oven and may never cook again.
Been using this for almost a year now. Every meal is excellent and eating something new everyday it one of the best parts. High recommend for anyone.
I love my Tovala. The meals are amazing. Portions are really great. And it has been a life saver since I got it.
Love my tovala! Perfect for lunch so I never have to think about packing one for work
Awesome meals and convenient for those that are too busy to cook a healthy meal
Food is amazing! Restaurant quality or better!
Great company
