We used to have good teachers but the principal fired some very experienced ones. Our teachers always on leave and they didn’t mark homework. They had more sickies than my child. Teachers only taught the basic stuff. They babysit my child well no doubt. Children are very happy here, but not the parents. However, considering it is free education, the school isn’t bad cos it has lots of activities, but if you want music band and other stuff, find a music teacher outside, then you will get the best of both worlds without the private education price tag. Private school isn’t unnecessary, cos the environment here is great, the facilities here is exceptional , plus the kids have confidence and parents are friendly here. If you are lucky enough to get a good teacher for that year, that’s a bonus. So I still recommend this school, cos this school is still way better than the last school my kid went to, which has absolutely no opportunities. Bullying isn’t a big problem here cos it was properly dealt with and I felt the school is quite responsible in this aspect, but for some anxious parents, it may not be enough. For what I know, bullying is worse in near by schools, so honestly, UPS is quite good. For those who works in the city, the school opens until 6pm and after care is good. We even go there on school holidays. These three years of school is a wonderful experience for my child, even though our teachers always on leave this year, overall it provides a great environment for my child, it will always be the best experience for him.
I loved this school until Ms Parry became principal. She changed almost everything about it! Like our schedules now changed to playing first then eating which doesn't seem like a problem but it was extremely hard to adapt with it. I heard that some teachers and a lot of students didn't like the schedule change. Our recess was then cut short to only 20 minutes of play! Maybe just say 10 minutes of play because sometimes the teacher wasn't on duty! She fired a LOT of the old teachers which were all very helpful and kind. She then replaced them with new ones which are alright but I miss the old teachers. Not just that but I heard that the year 6 shirts were changed into ugly new ones! The old year 6 shirt was unique and pretty and I also heard that near the end of the school year, the year 6 students can't wear the year 6 shirt and the other students will just have to sign the original shirt which is dark blue, how will they see the names? She also changed the awards to small awards which I am not a fan of. What else is she going to change? The badges and original uniforms? Don't get me wrong, Mrs Parry is kind but judge mental too.
Excellent school. Bring the best out of your child. The staff are responsible. The principal always communicate with parents and keeps them informed. The children are disciplined and work together in a team. Better than the private school option. The temporary school has big playground and everything is new. After care is run by City of Sydney council, so kids are well looked after by the after care people. The new school will be built and completed in 2 years time. I will definitely put my son there.
There is a lot of bullying at school. teachers and principal don't want to fix it. they close their eyes and nod their heads. It’s very sad to look at adults who don’t know how to work with children, but do it.
