"The 2"
I have repeatedly not received packages, but the online tracking via UPS will say, "the Post Office attempted to deliver your UPS SurePost package and left a delivery notice with instructions." In none of these cases were there notices left. In all of these cases, the attempted delivery times listed were late in the evening. It's my guess that instead of delivering, they need to close out their tracking for the night, so they just mark it as "attempted delivery." The reality is that USPS only leaves a notice if a signature is required and no one is home. Otherwise, the standard practice is to just leave packages on the porch. So with no delivery and no notice, customers are left to first realize they didn't get their delivery, then go online to figure out what happened, then go stand in line at the this branch -- never a quick trip -- without a notice. That means it takes the clerk even longer than usual to find the package -- and that is after you had to explain the circumstances and convince the clerk that, yes, you do have a package back there somewhere, if she could please take a look for you. This is all such a waste of time, and it's turning into a routine practice.
If you have a PO box there, they are slow to sort your mail into it, even if you have tracking numbers to show a backstory of the movement of that mail piece through the system, and its arrival at that post office. At this location, “Ready for pickup” tracking status actually means it —might— be ready for you to pick it up 3 to 4 postal working days later. That means Mondays to Fridays, not including weekend days nor holidays. The postal clerks who work behind the counter are easy going, down-to-earth, and simultaneously professional also; but from this side of the counter it just doesn’t seem like there is enough staffing at this station for the volume of mail and customers. There’s good transit access, a nearby metrorail station, and bus stops, and one bike rack out front. The availability of street parking of a car in the vicinity is quite mediocre, unless you want to pay $13 to park in the pay lot behind the place.
Do not go to this post office except for stamps. The postal clerks are consistently rude and openly hostile. (I have met one clerk who was courteous.) The main problem is that they provide incorrect information. This morning, I was the sole customer in an empty post office at 10:15 a.m. Staff ignored me for several minutes. I specifically asked to mail two packages that can be tracked without a signature requirement. I had several questions on what type of mail was required. I assumed certified and asked the postal clerk to confirm. The clerk did not provide the correct information when I asked. I had to press for it. And my receipt was missing one of the tracking numbers. It is now a complete mess and I am working on getting the package back simply to identify the tracking number.
Zero stars to be exact!! Possibly, the worst post office station in the nation. The postal clerks one in particular, Yvette, who most likely started right after high school 50 years ago is disgustingly rude coupled with an unprofessional demeanor. She should simply resign. She steps off the desk when she wants randomly leaving you next In line waiting till she feels like waiting on you if she returns. She is ultra nasty!! She is located in the middle always and has been at this location for too many years. The older man who acts as the supervisor is completely useless! It is a complete disgrace and the Postmaster General needs to take steps to correct this travesty of a post office! Clearly, there is no oversight-
The 2.6 rating for this post office is truly generous. It is terrible. Buying stamps? Need to send a package? Have a prepaid label? Do not even need to speak with someone and are using the drop box? Huge line? No line? It does not matter. It’s a a terrible experience without fail. The women who work here are absolutely awful and so incredibly rude. It’s wild. You’d this they are here via a sentence of some sort instead of a job that they chose. Unless you absolutely HAVE to use the postal service and THIS location, head directly across the street to UPS or a couple of blocks down Penn to FedEx where the experience is not even comparable. I regret it every time I walk into this place. Officially never coming back.
It is 9:27 on Friday May 19, 2023 and this Post Office branch is still closed! It is supposed to be open at 9:00am. The Postal Service staff inside appear to be completely oblivious and don’t care that a big line of increasingly agitated customers is forming a long line out front. Apparently not all the employees showed up for work and the lady inside cannot open the doors. What a breakdown. This lack of customer service mindset is frustrating and the manager in charge should be held accountable. Poor service and low reliability has unfortunately been the hallmark of this location for a while now. What a shame…especially for a location just 6 blocks from the US Capitol!
Ms Yvette was very rude. I waited in line patiently. She was talking to the customer about something non related to work. I was on a lunch break so after about 5 mins I asked her nicely if she could assist me I didn’t mind them finishing the conversation but I was in line waiting and they are were just talking . She said GIRLLL !! Really loud like I was bothering her. I said what ? She said what did you say ? I said no what did you say because I’m not no girl I have a name and im a grown woman . . She then finished the ladies transaction and assisted me . Post office workers you would think would have better attitudes and professionalism. Unfortunately not these days.
I wanted to send a piece of international express mail and I have informed by the postal worker that unless I write To address in English the Postal Office will not accept the mail. It was news to me because I had always been able to send boxes, packages and letters with the To address in Mandarin with US Postal. After 5 minutes of back and forth the rep will not budge, so I sent the mail with 10 forever stamps as regular mail at my own office with US postal pick up. My mother just received the mail yesterday. I don't understand why I couldn't send mail in Express with Mandarin address when less than a year ago I could, and regular mail is never a problem.
I just returned from picking up a package and was dreading what I thought would be a nightmarish, holiday packed, endless visit to the Post Office. I couldn't have been more wrong. While it was moderately busy, things moved quickly and the young lady assisting me was extremely professional and helped resolve my issue. Furthermore, I also get why people speak so highly of Ms. Yvette, she is an absolute gem! Although she wasn't the one assisting me, I was blessed to hear her conversations with the other customers. She made my day with her warmth and kindness to everyone she talked to. Would go back just to chat with her!
Central location with Saturday hours. Friendly and helpful staff. I don’t understand the negative reviews. I appreciate they placed tape markers on the floor to respect social distancing during this time. The gentleman who works at this USPS location on Saturdays helped me over the holidays in shipping a small gift to Toronto. He was so patient in getting me the estimated cost of international delivery so that I could compare it across the street with UPS. UPS was 3 times the cost and I walked back to this US Post Office location. Package arrived as expected to Toronto.
ZERO stars. The staff including the manager is rude, unhelpful, disrespectful and discriminating (origin/accent, disabilities). I went there to send a small package, did not know which form to fill, did not have my glasses and could not read well. I filled the form 5 times because Miss Hines could not accept my handwriting and information provided. Also, I could not understand her English, and I could not hear her well as she was behind the glass and wearing the mask. Additionally she wanted to axe me and I did not know why. I got wound up and she laughed at me .
I’ve avoided posting a negative review for a very long time, because this is my local post office and I really want to have a good experience. I’ve lived here a year, have a P.o. box at this location and come in around once a week for various reasons. Every single interaction has been negative. Every employee gives me attitude, awful customer service. Not trying to sound like a Karen, but I’ve had a terrible experience every single time without fail. Go to another location if you can help it.
I had a terrible experience here and at least one of my packages is lost. Clerk 22 on 2/3/23 around 3pm had an earpiece in and was on a personal call the entire time I was trying to get help and as she was keying in addresses for the 8 packages I was sending. I addressed her politely and was met with either hostility or aloofness. Surely there are enough bad reviews posted about the service at this location for something to be done about the rudeness and carelessness experienced here.
Unlike some others who've had unfortunate experiences, I have never been treated rudely by the staff nor have they behaved unprofessionally. I know my daughter who has shipped out many items has had positive experiences as well. I've been to post offices with bullet-proof glass between the personnel and customers so it's wonderful to be able to interact with them without barriers. Yes, there are long lines at times so I try to schedule my trips with that in mind.
I have never posted a review for anything before but due to very poor customer service received at this location I wanted to leave this comment. The employees at this location are very rude, unhelpful and do not care of individuals standing in line, even if they are elderly individuals. Even by any USPS standards the service was absolutely terrible. Save yourself some bad experiences and take your packages to a different location.
Yolanda or whatever the lady who has been there for a long time is the WORSE. Nasty, unprofessional and quick to tell you things without verifying to checking. Worse experience at a post office ever! How does a post office literally only have ONE employee! Lines grew and she services everyone before they even assist any appointments for passports. I'd rather pay the extra money next time instead of waiting in a post office again!
Old Lady with the gray fake ponytail was very rude and disrespectful. She wasn’t the person that was helping me to begin with and had an issue with me bringing in packages one by one but have the nerve to not have a dolly in the facility to bring all the packages at once. Im calling to speak to the manager too. Update: Found out her name is Yvette from reading the other reviews about her. Why is she not fired yet?
The people on duty are always courteous and helpful. I have never been given erroneous information. It is true that the lines can be long but I think ithat is the result of being a small station with only 3 booths located in the middle of a very populated neighborhood in the city. Also there are. huge numbers of bundles being shipped in this non-holiday time. I do agree with all the special kudos for Ms Yette.
30 minutes later they still aren't open. Employees are there but wouldn't talk to anyone. No signs posted. They don't answer the phone. We assume it's because there was some work being done on the facade of the building in front of one of the doors. The construction crew stopped working and moved their equipment. Still can't get a hold of anyone to let them know so they can open for business.
Paid for a PO Box at this location, and literally the first package we had addressed to it was sent from this location over to the 20024 location. The item's tracking number indicates that it arrived at 20003, and instead of placing it in the PO box, they shipped over to the other store, where I have never had PO box address. How incompetent do you have to be for something like this happen?
Worst customer service. I tried to print normal forever stamps at the kiosk and got 4 inch “stamps” instead. These are completely useless because I need to ship sixty small envelopes and the 4 inch stamps won’t fit without blocking the address. There was no option to void the payment. I talked to the staff and they were completely dismissive of the issue.
Bring a pen!! This is more a review about USPS than this post office in particular. You’d think I would learn by now but every time I mail something there is another idiosyncratic thing that I screw up and I spend double the amount of time I originally intended. That said the line here moves relatively fast so don’t be dismayed when you first arrive.
Awful. I was friendly and fun, asking questions, just needed some help and all I got was attitude and a clear disinterest. She then had the audacity to tell me I shouldn't expect her to do all that work (not like its the job she gets paid to do), I need to make it easier for her or she won't do it. Worst post office I've ever dealt with.
Yvette needs customer service re-training ASAP! Rude, unprofessional, ghetto and aggressive! Totally uncalled for behavior hence why nobody wants to even be bothered. The facial gestures, the body language. The solid worse! Do better! Clearly management needs to be replaced too because every post is about the awful service received.
One of the most painful and depressed places to visit. I prefer to go across the street to the UPS store and pay more for a simple mailing than dealing with the staff at this location. ALWAYS a line, usually only one window open & rude & unhelpful to customers. This locale is another example why USPS should be PRIVATIZED!!
This location is in the heart of Eastern Market and the most convenient USPS for Capitol Hill residents to get to. It's full service and you can do anything there that you would at a USPS. The staff are quirky, but helpful (Shout out to Mrs. Yvette!). I will say there are long lines usually so factor that into your visit.
I live in the area and repeatedly have bad experiences here. A certain employee will go out of their way to make your mailing difficult. The other employees aren’t as bad, but it’s not worth the gamble. Avoid this place if you have to use this location for anything other than a drop off or kiosk mailing.
Ms. Yvette provided excellent service when we renewed my son’s passport. He was bored and wanted to be in school with his friends. She was understanding and incredibly sweet with him. In addition, she was incredibly helpful with the nuts and bolts of filing the paperwork correctly and what to expect.
Worst customer service !! One woman in particular seriously hates her job / life because after she was completely mean to me, she did the same thing to the person behind me. We then all agreed in line that this woman was the meanest most miserable person. Why do they always work at the post office?!
Zero stars if there was an option. Worst service ever. Staff is always rude and doesnt care. Not sure why they even work there if they cant or dont want to do their jobs. Hope someone in management sees this review and makes some changes. I don't want to mention names but I might just next time.
The young females behind counter are the nastiest. They days to be all smile "nasty nice"! I t should not take the older postal word to only give excellent service. Too many attitudes. I have a huge comment NEED SUPERVISOR CALL ASAP/CONTACT .. THEY WOULDNT GIVE ME MY MAILWHILE IM AWAITING A KEY
I found the staff very helpful. When I was moving to the area and needed to reserve a PO Box, my local USPS branches were horrible, but the staff at this location was GREAT. They even knew me by name when I first arrive to pic up my keys. I'm always greeted with a smile and warm hello.
Make an appt online for passport, seemed easy enough. Wait for 15 minutes in regular line and she tells me camera is down (to which according to ups across the street it’s been down for months) how are you allowed to make online appointments if your camera is and has been down?
Come prepared to spend a few minutes looking for street parking. The post office staff are upbeat and professional, and I was in and out in a breeze (on Mother's Day weekend). The weekend flea market at Eastern Market is also right around the corner and is worth checking out.
This post office loses a star because sometimes the lines can be long and parking isn't easy. However, I have found the staff to be helpful, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile for me. I haven't experienced any of the attitude people have talked about.
Dwight is a person that discriminates. Sad for a Africa American man. Lawyer will Keep in contact he was rude and he think we was so smart. The funny thing is there are camera in there. I really think the post office need to better pick there local branch managers.
Wonderful staff at this location. Shannon, Yvette, and Anthony are friendly and very helpful. They remember my name and make sure that I'm always taken care of. They probably need more staff to help out but the USPS is unfortunately under limited budget.
Yvette is a mean-spirited woman. Avoid her if you can at this USPS location. She has refused to help us twice and made us feel horrible. I have seen multiple other negative Google reviews about her specifically. It's unacceptable.
I had an appointment for my passport. Apparently having an appointment means absolutely nothing. The USPS is trash in general, but this particular location is absolute trash...but it’s the USPS so nothing will improve.
I love this P.O. It makes DC feel like a small town! The staff are real people. They work hard to help customers. Going there is a pleasant experience and reminds citizens of the importance of good public services.
Ms Hine seemed to take pleasure in not printing a return label because my small package did not have tape on it. She was extremely rude and was clearly trying to make me upset. I try to avoid USPS at all costs!
Don't know what the brouhaha from other reviews is about. I mailed gifts from there twice in the last week, and the service was efficient after just a short wait. Both clerks were cordial and helpful.
Really negative experience with customer service. I had used the wrong label and the woman was annoyed she had to explain anything. These other reviews are helping me feel like i’m not crazy!
Rude employees, they give you sass the entire time and are completely useless. Pay the difference and go across to UPS. No wonder USPS is going out of business….
What is the point of a sign that says 24 hour drop box, if the entry door is locked on a Sunday? No access to personal PO Boxes either.
The woman who helped me on Monday and Wednesday was beyond helpful. She deserves a raise. So kind. I wish I could have left a gratuity
I appreciate the full staff who were there to assist efficiently during our lunch hours. Thank you again …
Consistently the absolute worst. @usps when will you take customers' comments about your employees seriously?
Gigantic sign that says 24 hour package drop off, yet the doors are locked. USPS wastes my time yet again.
The first time I’ve ever seen federal employees publicly humiliate customers.
